The Deadwood Stage

With a bloated and overpaid squad to trim, Neil Lennon knows he only has to ask us for our opinions if he needs any help…and Timposter has started the ball rolling..

The Winds of Change are Sweeping Through the Corridors of Celtic

Oh, the Deadwood stage is a-rolling on over the plains
With the curtains flappin’ and the driver a-snappin’ the reins
A beautiful sky, a wonderful day
Whip-crack-away, whip-crack-away, whip-crack-away

As some of you might already have seen, above is a list of players who have either already left or should leave the club. Now before anyone gets their knickers in a twist this list is NOT up for negotiation.

Nah seriously, of course it is. It’s a subject for discussion. Some might even take offence at using the word “DEADWOOD”. Come on folks it’s a word I use in mirth. No offence was ever intended.

You see the thing is we are told( so shut and listen and hand over yer cash) by The Great and Powerful all Knowing (Part time Director of Football) Wizard of all things Celtic PLC that is Peter Lawwell (All bow down before your master) that we do NOT need to overhaul the squad.

I beg to differ.

We are being told that a new age of AUSTERITY is sweeping in to Celtic Park. I think we’ve seen this movie before. All due to the overspending by, he who’s name shall not be mentioned, Brendan. Ooops. You know the guy that had that held all sway over everything at Celtic, including the Biscuit tin. Unfortunately for those who are spinning this line, yes that’s you Peter Lawwell, we ain’t swallowing it.

All spending was authorised by YOU. You are the one who controls everything at Celtic. There is no shifting of blame. Res12 anyone?

I always use this to little analogy to best describe Peter Lawwell.

His philosophy is best summed up like this.

Two men are cornered by a Lion.

One puts on a pair of running shoes.

The other man says, “They won’t help you escape the Lion”.

He replies, “I only need to outrun you”.

To cross my metaphors, “A Leopard NEVER changes its spots”.
So Mr Duplicitus Maximus we are on the march towards a historic 10-in-a-row and you decide to downgrade us to just above SEVCO and the rest of the SPFL, well we are not having it.

If you are allowed to get away with this your legacy will be not only the man who refused to act on the irrefutable evidence of Res12,  but the man responsible for throwing away 10-in-a-row.

Some legacy.

History will not be kind to those we hold responsible if we fail to achieve Ten In A Row,Ralph.

There won’t be a place on the planet that they can hide. Lawwell should do well to think about it.

Considering all the money made in the last few years its unbelievable how many sub par players we have. I would agree with most of your ratings with the exception of those who have played so little that I dont have an opinion. But do we have more Andy Robertsons / Ryan Christies who havent been getting a chance? Treble treble in the bag and 8 in a row but Lawell has made us feel a bit second rate. Cant help but feel we can be better.

Can’t be arsed working it out but it seems like the majority of those lads were signed by Rodger$. Too early to write off Bayo and Hayes has done well latterly. Worrying news that Lennon wants to give Lustig a contract.

I seen to be watching different matches than SMSM who I am not surprised has Lustig written off . If they had their way Celtic would be selling Mc Gregor & Christie for two million each .
I would expect Celtic supporters to value their players better . This Lustig man that many. gullible fans can’t wait to get rid off , only scored the ipening goal that won the SPL with a magnificent diving header but also set up the winning goal last Sunday when he pounced on the ball in his own half & headed it into space for Eddy to chip home superbly . Lustig may or may not have lost a yd of pace but he is still a good full back

DJ … Lustig is indeed a good full back and has been ok in the last couple of games he’s played. What’s worrying is the “Old Boys network” aspect of the recruitment strategy. Offering Izzy a new contract is out of the same script. I’ve watched every home game and most of the away games this season and both have lost more than a yard. I’m waiting to see if Mulgrew and Ledley turn up. It shows lack of ambition, ideas and a scouting policy. I really do hope I’m wrong.

9 in a row is going to be very difficult.
Lawwell is hoping we can get better loan players than sevco.
If this doesn’t happen he and not lenny will be to blame.
The masons in the black were bad this past season, wait till they ramp it up in August.
The lying king has pulled off a master strike by limiting away fans at the Glasgow derby as no referee is going to sent off a hun at home, so 6 points guaranteed anything else a bonus.
Even if after the match with the corrupt officials red cards are rescinded or given out, the result is never affected.
To make sure we win the league I personally would sacrifice everything in Europe.
Out in the very first tie will see the colour of the money!

Correct. Seems like we are writing off the next season already before a ball is kicked. Before any player leave or any players are signed. There is a core of very good players at Celtic and a lot of peripheral players taking up space and money. Some wise decisions on those to leave and some good decisions on bringing in two or three very good players. Seems like anti Lawwell hysteria is a bit premature this year given he had a manager and the manager walked away for big money and the EPL. Players brought in should be able to hold their own in Europe and the SPL will take care of itself. By the way we have won a treble treble with this squad.

D J Smyth

Reply to  Salad queen

Trying to get a run in Europe has never been mutually exclusive to winning domestically . I cannot imagine Lawwell changes very much from what has been successful in the past , winning 8 in a row & a.treble treble .
I would imagine P L like the rest of us doesn’t want to sign a load of players not good enough to go a job for us & so we may see less than in BR ‘s time but those we sign will be very useful to us .

BJF

Paddy spot on, Ralph exactly what evidence are you using to conclude Bayo isn’t good enough? Ralston, Griffiths, Bitton and Hayes offer good back up. For years we have been assured the Hun are going to the “wall” but they get a bit better each year, funny wall. However we always move ahead so that doesn’t matter, Lenny says the squad doesn’t need major surgery true it is good enough and above all young enough. We all know we need a right back, a centre back and a striker for Eddy to play off. They need to be ready to step in for a Champions League campaign, Young Motherwell players won’t do.

Whoever is brought in, they must be established players, no more loans or projects unless there is an option to buy.
I would also add Craig Gordon to the out list, has served the club well but like Izaguirre, time is up.

In my opinion we need back up to Scott Bain, why not go for Fraser Forster & let him & Bain fight it out for the number 1?
We need a right back, a central defender & a left back to cover KT.
A Scott Brown clone is also needed, a Wanyama type.
Neil has said between the lines that he wants to go with two strikers, so a Sutton type who can hold things up is needed to partner Edouard.

Spend big, aim big & we will be rewarded.

However the attack on Lawell is not justified
Consider his record and yes he has made errors and some serious however over the past 16years he has been good for Celtic football club and anyone who states otherwise. Should take a long hard look across the river to see the type of characters that could have come our way. In addition name me one person who could have done a better job alongside Dempsey?
He has steered Celtic as a CLUB in in the right direction some scary moments but he has done it we have 8 in a row a treble treble and the possibility of 10 in a row on his watch Managers players have come and gone and yet we remain steady solvent and building for 10. Well done Peter Lawell with all your faults you have been the best CEO that during this time we could have had

No Mike against other club CEOs. Don’t know if someone else at Celtic would be better because we have only had Lawwell. That said seen in comparison to other CEOs without Arab or Russian sugar daddies I think Lawells record speaks for itself. It the most successful the club has ever been ( outside of European play ) the most financially solvent weve ever been and our dominance looks set to continue domestically. Compare King to Lawwell.

By your logic, Lawwell has to be judged against the convicted criminal, well I beg to differ. How do we know that no-one could do better than him, because he has been in situ since 2003. He arrived and was appointed to be the club accountant. In his time we have signed a succession of projects, loans and inferior players, he has brought players into the club without consulting the football manager or his staff. The latest manager was appointed in the shower and by his own admittance he never even opened the applications from agents of any managerial candidate. He has never once mentioned the secret 5way agreement or its contents, he barely challenged the Lord Nimmo Smith enquiry. He side tracked the Resolution 12 bhoy’s who presented him with proof of the Huns cheating the club out of millions of pounds of C.L. qualifying monies. He was awarded and received a bonus of £2.17 mill. pounds despite a huge salary, shares and pension rights. Rodgers was the person responsible for the millions sitting in the biscuit tin not Lawwell and btw winning was also down to the football manager it was not down to the self proclaimed DoF. So do me a favour when your C.E. serves advantage to the Huns to the detriment of the club, its time for “Lawwell Out”.

Mike I have to beg to differ. Making Lawwell the pantomime villain for everything bad at Celtic is just daft. One things is we have no idea what went on during the Rangers Liquidations. To this day we are unaware of any role Celtic or Lawwell had. We can speculate and we certainly do assume the worst most of the time. Personally I don’t think Lawwell is the enemy – in fact I think he’s Celtic through and through. The real enemies are in the SFA and SPFL and over the city.

Mike

Reply to  BroxburnBhoy

Broxburn, Consider this, any qualified accountant would be delighted to work for Celtic, at a fraction of his salary, there would be more than enough to appoint a real qualified DoF like say Gordon Strachan, currently in talks for that same position at Dundee. We all want the tainted titles and trophies removed from the Huns, which they got by cheating, under Regan’s direction LNS delivered the wrong judgement. If you, like me and all Celtic supporters want them removed, then we must fight for Res.12. There is a direct link from Res.12 to the LNS enquiry. Res.12 with all its proof of cheating Celtic out of C.L. monies is currently sitting in the board room safe. He, Lawwell betrayed the work that these four men undertook, he shafted them. Dress it up anyway you want to, that is not a mistake, that is betraying the support through his silence. Ever heard him question the attacks on Celtic, me neither.

Mike on the Resolution 12 stuff I agree. He and the rest of the Board and the rest of Scottish football did not do enough. No argument from me on that. That said it’s not only him or the Celtic Board it’s all the CEOs and the Boards. Why are they silent on this? I don’t know and it perplexed me to this day. Pl & The Tory Board by their inactions on Res 12, against the lies & slanders and misrepresentations about our Club from the SMSM and their acceptance of the “same club myth” as displayed by Pls Economic Model of Scottish football relying on the ” O-d F–m” would suggest, at the ,least foreknowledge of the 5 Way Agreement.

Not to mention that their lame mealy mouthed responses to the idiosyncrasies of the SFA would tend to suggest authenticity to the, often repeated claims, that Pl & the Board were either integral to, or at the least, complicit in the knowledge of the implications of the 5 Way Agreement. There does not appear to be any way that the SFA could have pulled this off without the agreement or participation of the Celtic Board.

Even Doncaster’s pronouncement on the same Club myth and transfer of titles alone should have provoked a storm of protest from our Board if they were not involved in the original 5 Way Agreement.

It’s not unreasonable to hypothesize that The Board are being more or less blackmailed into silence and inaction about the abuses of the SFA and the new Michty *ranjurs

I think it is about time that the REs 12 issue should be taken out of the hands of the Club and that the fans should progress it by means of crowd funding. There are enough of us who are sufficiently aggrieved about the issue to last the distance.

By your rationale, we won the big cup with the Kellys in charge so any criticism of them is “unjustified”.

It’s the ‘be happy with what you’ve got’ and ‘it could be worse’ attitudes that keep us at the ‘back of the bus’ and put us on the path to destruction. We have to continually improve because those we compete against will improve.

As for who could do better, off the top of my head I would say Mick Dawson. He understands the Irish connection, has a sports and business/stocks background and is very successful, not just domestically but against those with much more money and resources.

No not unjustified – things that anyone did wrong they are rightly blamed for and for the successes we had then rightly praised for. Lawell and previous regimes had their bad decisions and their good ones. I understand many see the world in black and white it’s either this or that. Well it’s more this and that black and white and spectrum in between. We are not a bunch of kids at a pantomime for God’s sake. Lawells tenure has happened to coincide with one of the most success spells for Celtic in our history. I agree with Mike on Resolution 12 – he and the board did not do enough on that issue. That said no need to boo every time he shows up. I would imagine thee is a lot of complexity and risk when the Celtic Board decide what to weigh in on and what not to. More than we might imagine

Doc

I’m not saying its black and white, I’ve praised him in the past, recently for signing non-EU, uncapped players. I have no idea how he was able to get work permits.

I’ve said many times on here that Lawwell is good at making money but poor at spending it. He has brought in record revenues, rejuvenated properties and opened up so many other, untraditional income streams. But his spending record is poor. To me, he is a finance officer and not a CEO, I don’t think he would take a reduced role in finance so, therefore, the only way is out.

Why is Lawwell taking over £2m per year out of the club, yet he can’t conclude a deal for a Hibs player?
Why does Lawwell feed us the line ” we aim to be World class in everything we do “, yet fail to sign a Hibs player who wanted to come to Celtic?

Bayo We don’t know yet how good he might be.

Backup left back and one good striker.

Timposter,

Sounds like the dodgy sheriff of Deadwood or the dead sheriff of Dodge.

Personally, I am off to the range. After all, it’s high noon and there are guns ablazin’ all over this site. Looks to me as if PL is no longer a pard and many ranch hands are lining up to chuck him under the herd of “has beens” and “won’t dos” being stampeded out of Celtic Park. As is my wont, I will happily sit on the corral fence and watch the mayhem unfold. I just hope the summer window doesn’t prove to be a bum steer rather than a “bright golden haze on the meadow” of Celtic Park’s new turf.

One final comment. In my adolescent days, I had many a wet dream about Doris in that greasy buffalo-hide suit and dapper cavalry cap – even if belonged to the boys in blue (and that isn’t me sitting next to her, ya b****ds). If Carlsberg did cowgirls, they would be Dorises and she would be whipping my imagination all the way from the Black Hills of Dakota to the rollin’ prairies of my dreams.

Whip, crack, away – now there’s an ad for erectile disfunction – much better than the Carlsberg one, more sparkle, more satisfying, much wetter and with a full bodied head to finish!!!!

Now to zzzzzzzzzzzzzz and dreaming on. That’s all I have left these days 🙂

I employ two people who are both paid far above ‘the living wage’. It is shameful that Celtic can’t do the same for the many in its employ.
‘Good enough for Celtic’ can also mean good enough for anywhere: Wanyama/Van Dijk/Dembele/etc.
Good enough for Celtic
Celtic is good enough for the SPFL
Celtic is sometimes good enough for European competitions.
We gotta start somewhere. Highly touted players who have come to Celtic haven’t even been good enough for the SPL
Juninho/Pukki/Hedman/Bangura the list goes on.

Steve Naive

Pukki has shown he can score when not blootered first touch. I banged on about Christie here for long enough when others wanted to punt him so they can come good if they have it in them. Lawwell may be all some people say but a pound to a penny whoever comes after him will get slated too and if the team aren’t winning then people will hark back to Lawwell’s time as a golden period in a club with a history of 131 years standing.

TicToc Vinnie.
PS for those who can’t settle, WRT NFL, it was Neil who was our manager when we beat the best football team I’ve ever seen and arguably the best ever with Xavi, Iniesta and Messi in their prime. But some of you would have ‘anyone’ but Lenny.
Do you retarded, greedy fucks like “prawn sandwiches” and think HT means “it’s free; eat and drink as much as you want/can”?
Supporters, those genuine ones whom, like me cannot attend the games but buy Celtic kits, calendars, drinking vessels, DVDs, books, et cetera.
I’m gonnae drop this as I’m getting REALLY fucking annoyed.
Review yourself as a “Tim”, BB and stop getting right on my fucking tits.
