Etims – A Tribute to Big Billy

Desimond, Hector and Ralph get together to fondly pay tribute to the man who was and will forever be Mr Celtic.

The show covers Big Billys years as player, then a Manager and then as an Ambassador…and of course forever as the Icon.

The discussion also covers iconic matches including Lisbon of course, Airdrie ’75 and then onto classic Management games such as Ajax and Real Madrid, the night of the 4-2 game and some funny anecdotes including Frank McAvennies helicopter and Charlie Nicholas sock free escapades.

Tributes are given throughout and most of all thanks is given to Big Billy.

We were all truly blessed.

RIP to our greatest leader.

Grief and anguish, when a legend passes,
grown men crying, like silly wee lasses,
only the special ones can elicit such sorrow,
how will we cope, when he’s buried tomorrow.

Billy McNeill, was a leader of men,
the captain of Celtic since god knows when,
Rest In Peace, captain courageous,
humble yet proud and never ungracious.

For us you will always be loved and special,
now your memory will remain immortal.
The special ones memories, will never depart,
for you we will always have a place in our heart.

Tomorrow, do the man proud, Celtic songs only, show the world how we care, what he meant, show the world we are truly a club like no other, for you Billy, a Legend, Mr Celtic.

Mike

Someone on CQN I think, suggested a 67 second applause tribute to Billy, a great idea which the club has decided to adopt, a special tribute for a special man.

Bernard Ponsonby’s tribute to Billy on STV was excellent, poignant and fitting, it will long remain in our memories.

Hankies at the ready tomorrow as the team lay a wreath in Billy’s honour underneath his statue, again a fitting tribute to Celtic’s greatest ever captain…

Thanks guys. Great tribute. Billy’s passing all the more poignant as a link to my late dad who was of that era and had dementia-you summed things up perfectly. So many memories from my dads stories of the lions helped my love of this great club

Just wanted to mention something on these diseases & illnesses that effect people.
We have lost Jinky to MND & Billy to Dementia, my Mother in law has MND & it’s truly awful to witness someone who you remember fit & well in such a condition.
Fernando Ricksen also suffers from MND & i can only offer the guy my best wishes that he enjoys life as best he can in the time he has remaining.
God bless his family & friends, just be there for the guy & show him love every day.

God bless you Fernando!

A wee bit distasteful to the memory of big Billy, so I will withdraw my comment as its inappropriate to his memory. Instead I will bring my thoughts to his family and the friends who meant so much to him. He meant so much to all of us and its right and fitting that so many people of different clubs pay tribute to him and his memory. He was a true Celt. a leader of men who would never decry anyone in public, that being the mark of a champion… Hail Hail Cesar.

Farewell our ain King Billy,
the leader of our team,
he led the Glasgow Celtic,
to success we could only dream.

Farewell our captain marvel,
our greatest captain ever,
he led us on travel,
to unpparalled success,
no words could ever express,
how much we love you Cesar,

Morning all, today’s game doesn’t need much of an introduction and I’m not going to bother attempting any kind of detailed analysis either. It’s a simple case of grim resolve and getting the job done. No need to go on about how important a win will be for us. This match is simply huge.

My hope is that the absence of Killie’s first choice CB partnership of Kirk Broadfoot and Stewart Findlay will bring insecurity and fragility to their defence and that we make good use of our resources to exploit this. Incidentally, forward Rory McKenzie, the other guy who was red-carded last weekend, has had it downgraded to a yellow and will therefore be available to face us. Both him and Eamonn Brophy can cause a few problems when on song but our defence and goalie have been in fine form of late and should be able to deal with whatever is thrown at them.

I’d have Jonny Hayes in at left back and give Tim Weah a free role up front to harry and torment their makeshift defence with his non-stop running and undisputable talent. I’d also like to see Kris Ajer grab some protagonism with his exciting surges forward with the ball as this adds an extra dimension to our attacking play and can really upset them at the back. We could offer no greater tribute to our legendary departed captain than to come away with a no nonsense victory at such a vital moment in the season. I expect this to be tight (there will be no 5-1 like we had last December) and there will probably be more suffering than enjoyment in store for us over the 90 but our sheer determination should carry us through on the day.

Bain

Lustig Simunovic Ajer Hayes

Brown Rogiv McGregor

Forrest Edouard Weah

Subs: De Vries, Toljan, Benkovic, Ntcham, Henderson, Burke, Sinclair

Prediction: Celtic 1 Killie 0 (Weah)

Good team Yoker, I say that because it was also my pick, the only thing that I may add is I think that Broadfoot’s red card was rescinded.

There’s a star man playing on the right,
His name is Jamesy Forrest and you know he’s dynamite, (well done e-tims)
Our star man, playing on the right,
you know he loves the Celtic and the Killie will get a fright..

Hi Mike, I hope you’re very well and enjoying some fine spring weather. We’ll be walking a bit of a tightrope today mate – if we win we’ll be euphoric but if we don’t, the frustration we felt after our last two league games will reach new heights. An early goal or two to settle the nerves would be nice. Pity about Broadfoot but hopefully that won’t make too much difference. Have a brilliant day and, all being well, we’ll all be celebrating on here in a few hours’ time.

Mike,
Broadfoot’s red wasn’t rescinded, it was McKenzie that had his red overturned to a yellow.
Anyway, if we are concerned that Kirk fucking Bigfoot is available or not, then the game is up lol.
The stupid cunt can’t even boil an egg without blowing himself up.

I’m fine Yoker, We had a couple of great weeks which allowed us to establish all the crops, just a wee bit building works still to go and job done. The weather changed here the last few days have been showery but much needed rain for the soil, so all good. Hope your well and life is not to hard and your enjoying your football. Watched a wee bit of the Getaffe game and enjoyed it, seeing a bit more Spanish football, lets the wife do her sewing and leaves me to enjoy the footie. The players will all be fired up and killie will be on the Backfoot not Broadfoot and we should capitalise on that. I expect a good game, with much emotion in the stands and Celtic to go for it and as you say get an early couple of goals would be great. Enjoy your game Yoker and your day, take care… “There’s only one King Billy, one King Billy”.

Sounds like smashing fun Mikey, outside in the sun with the shirt off seeing to the crops and laying a few bricks. Building work gives great satisfaction and I miss it from time to time.

On Spanish football, Barça find themselves in exactly the same position as us numerically speaking: 9 points ahead of Athletico Madrid with 4 games to go. This weekend they’re at home to Levante (from the city of Valencia), which is a team I like and who play in exactly the same colours as Barça. Betis, on the other hand, have had a disastrous run of results recently that is likely to condemn them to mid-table mediocrity and their manager Quique Setien is one more bad game away from getting his jotters.

Have a good one Mikey Bhoy and maybe speak more after the game.

Forrest a grand old team to see,
And if you don’t think Forrest will score,
Then i’d say you just can’t see the Forres for the trees….

We don’t care what the animals say,
What the hell do we care, because we only know that there’s gonna be a show & the Jamesy Forrest will be there…

Charlie,

What have you heard? The performance today was clueless. The better manager was on the Killie bench.

Rebus

Rebus67

Clearly, God is a Celtic supporter. Only a supreme being could orchestrate the goal and its timing!

The nature lf the goal shows the value of having someone in the box who can head the ball.

However, this looks like a team playing without a plan or, certainly, no flexibility.

If this is the future, get your crash helmets out. We shall be drilled playing like that in Europe. Two FBs that are too slow to get back to position; lack of creativity in midfield;predictable sweeping passes out to the wing; wing play that rarely involves getting to the byeline and no heading power in the box.

Big changes needed. Can anyone day that this team has improvedthis season, or even under the interim?

Still, the victory was sweet!

Rebus
