Celtic Diary Friday October 20: Munich: Three Days At The Football

Normal service returns after a three day sojourn to the Bavarian captial of Munich, as Celtic continued their habit of freezing against the big teams and saving themselves for Anderlecht at home.

Its almost as though the players have been told not to worry about Bayern and PSG, and to concentrate on the two games against the Belgians.

Either that or all of them, from the manager down, have a serious lack of belief in themselves at this level.

The 3-0 defeat could have been worse, ask Arsenal, for instance, who conceded five twice at this stage last year to Bayern, but its more the lack of confidence that worries me. Only Brown, Tierney and Gordon came anywhere near the confidence required at this level, and that meant we were always going to be in trouble.

And this was Bayern without Nueuer, Ribbery,Martinez and so on…

I was in Kennedy’s Bar, next to Sendlinger Tor train station ( below Marienplatz on the map ) when the teams were amnnounced. Its on the same line as Frottmanning, where the ground is. ( Dark Blue )

There was a huge groan in the room as it was confirmed that Robben, Lewndowski and Muller were playing.

From me.

The groan got louder when I saw the word Gamboa.

You know, we moaned at Gordon Strachan last week for ignoring James forrest and Calum MacGregor, and yet in Brendan we trust.

Rodgers went with Armstrong and Roberts, one of whom runs with the ball and one who runs without it, equally ineffectively.

At that point, I figured I might as well just enjoy the trip…

Which started at three o’clock on tuesday morning, or at ten past three to be more precise, with a “I hope you’ve got fucking up ” type of phone call.

Our flight was at 7.45, and given the new improved smart motorway between Stoke and Birmingham, it was probably a good idea to give ourselves plenty of time to make an arse of it.

But we didn’t, which made us both a little nervous, so we had breakfast at the airport, feeling absurdly pleased that we’d found the correct car park. Which was bigger than the actual terminal, and would have been difficult to miss.

We nearly did, and had to reverse out of car park 5, ( we wanted 1 )but apart from a scream from what sounded like an old woman with a car on her foot, hardly anyone  noticed.

Birmingham airport is one of the easier ones to navigate, and it didn’t take long to find the bar.

I’m a fairly nervous flier, for all the right reasons, and it still amazes me how they stay in the air. They’re much bigger than say, a bus or a piano, and they don;t stay up for very long unassisted.

It’s all to do with aerodynamics, though the first sight of our plane didn’t fill me with a great deal of confidence, as it has a great big un-aerodynamic tube sticking out of it.

As opposed to the great big un-aerodynamic tube taking the photograph.

And if you look carefully, in between the white lines, there’s the outline of a guy who fell out of a plane earlier.

Though it has to be said, Lufthansa aren’t Ryanair or Easyjet, and it seemed like the crew all knew what they were doing. My companion, lets call him Stuart, because thats his name, even accepted a glass of water from the stewardess when he found out they were gratis.

And I’ve still got the cheese sandwich she gave me.

Never go anywhere without your emergency cheese sandwich.

The flight was only an hour and a half, and with the time difference it meant we nearly ended up in Munich before we left Birmingham, which probably explains the first bit of confusion we encountered.

Inside the terminal we joined a queue -the first one we saw- and chatted merrily away to an elderly Amercan couple who had ancestors from somewhere in Ayshire, though I’ve forgotten the name of the town, and to be honest, I think they’d made it up, or got it from one of those websites where they sell daft people a history so they can pretend they’ve got one..hang on, that’s a different story..

Anyway, they both remarked on how much they had enjoyed Munich, and we still never clicked.

In fact, we only clicked when they wouldn’t let us on the plane back to the States.

It took us another forty minutes or so to get out of the terminal on down to the train. Sort of like that Tom Hanks film where he lives in that airport. Actually, two Tom Hanks films, Forrest Gump in an Airport.

In our defence, Munich Airport is bloody huge, and anyone who adheres to the stereotypical lack of humour of Germans is wrong. I am certain dozens of them were watching us bumble about the airport like two kids looking for their parents at a theme park, and if there’s a You’ve Been Framed type show over there, we’ll be on it.

It was a miracle we found the trains, which whilst the map above is fairly self explanatory, most of the stations seem to have all the trains going in the same direction.

We were heading to Westkruez, yellow line, to the left, where we’d found an apartment to stay in.

The train station was just across the road and down a bit.

Perfect !

Although on Wednesday morning, standing outside the front door enjoying my first cigarette and coughing fit of the day, I noticed an awful lot of people going into what looked like a post office opposite and not coming back out… at six am.

I had a wee wander over, and discovered it was the main entrance to the train station, but presumably they were trying to keep it a secret.

They had, from us, at any rate.

But to Tuesday, and the city centre..

Marienplatz , in the centre was the place to be.

Image result for marienplatz munich

Marienplatz (en: Mary’s Square, i.e. St. Mary, Our Lady‘s Square) is a central square in the city centre of MunichGermany. It has been the city’s main square since 1158.

We got there shortly after, around 12.30

It was already busy…

Marienplatz was named after the Mariensäule, a Marian column erected in its centre in 1638 to celebrate the end of Swedish occupation. Today the Marienplatz is dominated by the New City Hall (Neues Rathaus) on the north side, and the Old City Hall (Altes Rathaus, a reconstructed [[Gothic architecture|gothic]) council hall with a ballroom and tower) on the east side.

In the Middle Ages, markets and tournaments were held in this city square. The Glockenspiel in the tower of the new city hall was inspired by these tournaments, and draws millions of tourists a year. Furthermore, the pedestrian zone between Karlsplatz and Marienplatz is a crowded area with numerous shops and restaurants.

The Marienplatz S-Bahn and U-Bahn station, an important transportation hub, is located below the square.

Those of you who have been on these trips will know what I mean when I say the place was green and white. Those of you who haven’t, get the passports out. Everyone should do it at least once.

Every pub, every spare wall, was taken up by tims enjoying the autumn warmth, all with a glass of refreshing light ale, which served purely to moisten the vocal chords, which were being thoroughly well excercised.

There’s plenty of videos about, but they don’t capture the noise and the atmosphere.

Nor the freedom of just wandering around , taking it all in under the watchful eye of the Munich police, who, to my knowledge, didn’t have to arrest anyone for what they sang , wore or said.

And guess what ?

There was no trouble.

We met up with a couple from the Welsh branch of our CSc, and then, we bumped into the regulars from the pub we use in Lockerbie on the way back from Celtic Park..

Sure, there were police around, but they tended to stay to the sides, although you had little doubt they wouldn’t hesitate to do what they had to do, and there was always the risk that with so much drink about something might “kick off ” , but there seemed a mutual respect between visitors and hosts so it was all peaceful, if a bit loud.

We enjoyed the fun until about eleven or so, but it had been a long day , and given our lack of ability to negotiate the airport, we figured the train network might turn out to be a little awkward if we continued drinking…

We got back to the bar outside the hotel fairly easily, I think, and without incident, I think.

There were a few restaurants in the square by the hitel, but none of them sold Spare Ribs, instead they all tried to sell me a portion of duck, so I thought sod it, and went to bed.

Wednesday morning, the day of the game..

Our tickets had been assured, and before i go any further, I’d like to thank our man for doing his damn best to get us sorted. It wasn’t his fault it went tits up, and i can only imagine his frustration.

And anyway, looking back, given our own penchant for getting drunk and not making the game in Glasgow from time to time, perhaps it worked out well.

Who’s to say we’d have dragged ourselves out of Kennedy’s to get to the game in time anyway ?

Well, we probably would, but its still a possibility.

We realised there werr problems with the tickets, and appealed to anyone with spares, all of who we’d like to thank for trying to help.

By around 5pm, we’d decided that we would only buy two tickets at the same time if they became available, in a sort of solidarity pact.

Granted, a pact which would have bee deemed illegal in that both of us by now were in no real state to make conscious decisions.

And we’d have got them as well, as there were plenty about, but deep down, I think we’d resigned ourselves to our seats by the telly, largely down to the drink, I suppose.

Next time I travel, I’ll stick to water..

Image result for aye okay

We should have maybe tidied up a bit before we left,

Image result for celtic fans in munich

But I wandered round there looking for a bin, and I only found two. I’m sure others would back me up on that.

You can tell actually, notice all the rubbish is sort of in wee bundles.

I suppose I  wanted to go to the game, and wanted to see that stadium, but I got a fridge magnet with a picture of it, so when I’m old I can convince myself I did.

And anyway, I’d have probably fell asleep or something.

As it was, it was a fantastic trip, a great atmosphere and well worth it.

Tickets or not tickets, it was still a great few days.

And we got back early yesterday without making an arse of it.

Two travelled, two back…though I can understand what went wrong here,

16 of Drumchapel CSCs finest went to Munich (via Frankfurt) & 14 missed the flight hame 😂😂😂 What a fucking bunch 🍺🍀😱😂

it was a huge effort to get up early after two days on the lash, and I guess not everyone remembered to set their alarm.

I got home after what seemed like hours, had a bath and slept until teatime, and then again until just now.

Can’t think why I was so tired…

Tomorrow is the League cup semi final.

Lets hope the players are somewhat fitter than me..

It is good that this site seems to be more honest about our current campaign than most. Some refused to mention the game at all focusing comepletely on the fun had on the trip. I am not accusing anyone of ignoring the poor planning by all at the club but it was certainly being pushed into the background and blind hope was replacing sense. #-0 does not sound too bad but in reality it was a horror show every bit as bad as PSG. Effort and commitment levels for these games should be at the level of the Barca game in 2012 but they fall well short. We learn nothing from victory only fom defeat. I have a horrible, sneaky feeling that Brendan is about to learn a we bit about defeat over the next week. If he laps up the praise then he needs to take the criticism and he deserves the criticism for the disaster which has ben this campaign. He promised improvement. There has been none. We are going to be given the line that going into the EL is progress, everyone knows that is crap. We are only going to qualify because Anderlecht appear to one of the very few teams who look worse and more ill-prepared than we are. Remember Scotland tells us nothing, but in Europe BR has a terrible record at both clubs he has played in Europe with. Maybe he is realising that, like with many of his second rate players, he too has found his level. Or can anyone suggest any evidence to the contrary?

Do you have a season ticket?
Maybe send it to me, someone who knows how to and wants to back the team, your ticket is fucking wasted on you, give it to me and you can get back to your golf course and prawn sandwich.
So you are hnting you think we will lose to Hibs and Aberdeen, one of them or both?
Based on what exactly?

John McGinn and Kenny Mclean got you spooked? Lol lol

Fucking bring them on.
There will be two convincing wins for Celtic this week!

I think john is a bit confused? British teams at club/international level find it very difficult ehen coming up against Europeans top or otherwise, they come up concentrating on ball control/touch and passing/possession,you cannot go from our discipline to a completely different/better discipline,I remember England losing 2-0 at Wembley to Chile who had Gary Medel at 5ft 6inches at c/b England never got a sniff because they were up against a team that played 1/2 touch football they always struggle against this type of opponent we are no different.

So the MSM ‘Celtic are an embarrassment to Scottish football’ garbage continues unabated in bonnie Scotland. Here’s a thing – have a look at Everton’s position in the Europa League – played 3, points 1 and rock bottom of the group – having spent squintillions. Expected to get outclassed but can’t accept outfought. That Robben has some engine – he’s like the polis in the Terminator. Should have bought a Kolo replacement in January. Onwards and upwards.

Actually when you think about what he has done & continues to do for the club, there is fucking no reason to question the man’s methods.

Celtic fail to beat PSG & Bayern Munich shocker…
Well fuck me, there’s a surprise!

Fuck PSG & Bayern….getting a treble, two CL group stages in a row is fucking class and will do me nicely thank you very fucking much.

I have a guilt feeling because Seville was one of my best ever Celtic experiences, but for a decent keeper, Bobo keeping the head and Mourinho not being a cheating bastard…… but it was a defeat. I respect the quote from one site “ Celtic fans are the only ones who would fret about Astana and expect to go to Munich and beat Bayern.” Hibs could be difficult but we have fresh good players to come in. Brendan is a good manager, the best since the Bkessed one and possibly even better but he is not infallible only the Pope and Ralph are. He has made mistakes but again we are in the Group stages, European football after Christmas, probably we will win the Keague. Of course Aberdeen, Hearts, Sevco and St Johnstone will do all this as well, Aye right! Only one team in Scotland.

I have given my season ticket away Monti and my tickets for the CL games. To be honest they would be wasted on you anyway as you only see what you want to see. therefore you have made your mind up and only a disaster, which is too late, will waken you up. Just continue with your blinkered view and spouting the , frankly, Sevco-esque ‘In Brendan we trust’. i know being completely uncritical of Celtic makes you feel loyal but it is damaging. We need thousands less supporters willing to just see what they want and more eeing things for what they are. The media has actually been more than fair to Rodgers as he deserves to be slaughtered for his preparation. however, Celtic men like Sutton and Keane have criticised him in the past two days and he deserves this. As Sutton pointed out the summer sealed the fate. i am not someone who expects to go and get a resulty in Munich or Paris but to not make any effort is unacceptable. The club have accepted second rate status. Don’t bother trying to do anything outside Scotland ‘taking part is enough’. Celtic are now the fat kid at the school’s sports day. Big participation ribbon, well done. It’s the taking part that counts. Hence I have chucked it completely. Scotland is pointless. If Celtic don’t win the treble it is failure as the rest are so bad. But I will not make the effort and spend the money to go when the club club are going nowhere in Europe and are happy to be beaten 3, 4, 5, 7 nothing. Not for me. Brendan Rodgers has a terrible record in the CL and that is all the world sees, except those in a green and white bubble. He has lost 5 games as Celtic manager, not a problem it was against good teams but his teams have shipped over 20 goals. That is a problem . By the end of this CL group Celtic will have lost 7 games of Brendand’s 12 and will have lost 30 goals. That is not progress. Learning nothing as keane said. But the spin will be that we are in the EL! But BR is lucky to have drawn Anderlecht who are not only the worse team in Pot 3 but are possibly the worse team in the competition, closely contested by Maribor and Celtic. They are also falling apart on and off the park. Any other team in Pot 3 this year would have ensured that we had nil points. But that will come next year. We all have the right to our opinion. And I am damned sure i have earned the right to mine.

Monti you ahve got me wrong all the way. Went to almost every game during Ronny Deila’s time, unlike 30,000 part timers who are currently in the stands at Celtic Park every second week. Also attended the cup quarter final against Morton with the other 14,000 who remarkably became 54,000 as that is how many wanted tickets for the semi against a team that most of them claim died in 2012. Talk about confused. But most of this mob, sing when your winning, where were they in the 90s as well? will agree totally with you. No room for a different opinion at Celtic Park in Brendan we trust . Are you Sevco in disguise? Wake up. Winning In Scotland is nothing. It is amazing that most people cannot think straight. We get humiliated in Europe and the mantra is look at the money they have we cannot be expected to beat them . It’s no fair. But beat Hamilton and Dundee, who are further away from us than we are from Bayern and we are the Invincibles. That is ridiculous. If Celtic are not expected to play in Europe without losing an average of 4 goals a game why are Celtic not beating the dross in the SPL 4 and 5 nothing every week . Your arguments make more sense. Do you think Bayern Munich are celebrating great victories over the likes of C3eltic. No They have harder games in Germany. So why are we singing about beating rubbish, that we should be putting away without any trouble. Also, I never realised that predicting Celtic will get beat in Scotland is now a sign ods disloyalty that the wee snowflakes on this site cannot bear to hear. What is it basewd on. Celktic’s performances this season. With the exception of the games against Hearts, Rangers and kilmarnock Celtic have been poor this season. Two scrapped draws at home, poor performances against Thistle and Dundee. Therefore, Celtic are not in good form, they have just been given the run around in Munich. All of this will boost Hibs confidence. A Hibs team who were very unlucky not to win at Celtic Park. Pittodrie is another hard place, Celtic should win but Aberdeen are the form team in Scotland and will also not fear Celtic in their current form. So you believe it is outlandish to think that defeat against these two is possible? Wow,that is Sevco-esque arrogance. But I hope I am wrong, it won’t be the first or last time, and I will gladly come on here delighted to admit to being so.

Cartvale88

John, you make some valid points, but the problem is the gungho way of playing football, great in Scotland but dangerous in UCL.
BR has to invent a defensive holding formation, Lenny achieved that with Awfy Awfy Lustig, Izzie and Charlie a lot weaker than BR has.
English teams are overrated in Europe, look atthe results this week, maybe Tottingham surprised everyone, the rest struggled to win, even thei perils Man City a team of two halves. A hard group this year, maybe next year no big guns, an English team

Always an eloquent argument Monti. ‘Utter pish. I love Celtic so i dae’.

And what part of my comment was Utter Pish. The other teams in Pot 3 Monti. Please tell me which of these teams is worse than Anderlecht. Basel, Roma, Olympiakos, Liverpool, Napoli, Besiktas and Spurs. You seriously believe if we had played any of these teams away in Match Day 2 we would have suffered anything other than a hammering. If so you are delusional. We have landed very lucky getting the Belgians. Particularly in their present state.

Exactly the point I am making which many ignore as we are not allowed to point out any deficiencies. The result was predictable. The tactics were all wrong. They did not make enough effort to make Celtic as strong as they could be, that is unforgivable. And the tactics employed by the manager are baffling. He in one voice says we don’t have the players or the money to get players anywhere near CL level but insists he is going to play the way he does in Scotland. If Pedro said that he would get slaughtered for being a brainless buffoon. It is simply asking to get beat by a barrel load.

John we were unfortunate with this and last years draw. We have been given big hitters who will probably fade as the comp goes on. The usual suspects real, athleticism more, juve and Barca will be there at the end, I’m sure of it.

I agree with you and Charlie Nicholas that we go the cheap way and take advantage of loyal fans. It’s not rodgers fault. As soon as Europe is over it’ll be forgotten about and the three trophies we got last year will be in the bag most likely and we will be back in the same position next year unless lawell and Dermott release some serious money. It’s up to us and the paying fans to decide whether we want to put up with it or not

CALL THE SAMARITANS
” Hello my name is John, in the last two years i have watched Celtic go undefeated for an entire season, winning a treble, they have qualified for the CL for the las two seasons, giving Celtic between £50/60m pounds.
They are still unbeaten this see season and are at Hampden again in another semi final seeking a place in another final….

Please help……”

Are English teams not unbeaten this year so far? It is immaterial who we draw. Look at the Pot 3 I posted enough. Pot 3? Roma came from 2 down to lead Chelsea before losing a goal and getting a draw. They are still 2 points behind Chelsea. Then there is Napoli, Spurs and Liverpool. Regardless of who we draw we need to prepare well. Last year was a disaster.Armstrong was given nearly 3 months to sign as was Roberts. And I can only presume that an over-indulgence in strong drink at the end of last season resulted In Johnny Hayes (??!!) showing up to become half the player he was at Aberdeen. And at the same time Boyata, improved yes, but he has now been reinvented as a cross between Billy McNeill and Franz Beckenbauer in the minds of the supporters, interestingly during the time he was not even playing, got injured and was not going to be ready by the start of the season and the resident Gimp. jozo, who can only play ion spongy grass, and has one eye out of the door any way are all we have to rely on. You would think someone could have seen a flaw in this strategy. Particularly as the 20 year old prospect, who has never been to Europe never mind played in European competition, morphs into a first choice CB before having a defective foot exposed 2 days before the end of the window. If this had happened at Ibrox oh how we would have laughed and accused them of incompetence and an unwillingness to splash the cash. But now we are not even allowed to mention it in the new Omerta world of Celtic. Where all views are not encouraged only those that echo the views of the majority. Remember the days we used to call the clubs own newspaper Pravda. Well it has happened again. And the absence of an alternative view for years nearly ended up in a disaster.

Playing against a far superior team than Celtic on their own patch, a team that regularly puts 3,4,5,and 6 past far superior teams than Celtic, to expect a result was really reaching for the stars. Also taking in to account a makeshift defence with Lustig really the only experienced one back there (playing out of position I might add) we were lucky to get away with a 3-0.

Brendan has brought the Club and the team forward in so many ways in the short time he has had so far, He may make a few mistakes along the way and players may not play up to scratch in every game but it does neither any good to be pilloried they need our support at these times.

If our players give 100% for the jersey and sometimes that may not get a result, the last thing they need are fans on their back.In my opinion Brendan made 2 mbig mistakes, not getting CB & RB during the transfer window and letting Christie go to our biggest rivals.

Never forget, We Are Celtic, We Are Family Hail Hail.

John, I don’t think any team is happy to be beaten at all let alone by large margins. The reality of the situation as we all know is the gulf in finances. Whatever happened to the ffp? I think we are heading to a situation where these so-called elite clubs will decide to go it alone without uefa and create their own mini-league. Then we will be reduced to looking on as our own finances take a tumble. It’s a sobering experience for a club like ours to see the team being turned over and the players will be hurting. Perhaps we should be like Iceland, big strong athletes who can dominate more talented opponents but who are shite to watch. Keep following the Tic, John. After all you’re supposed to be a Celtic supporter.

John, The very fact that you attended watching Deila emptying the stands say’s it all to me. If you don’t see the difference in the team and how they play, compared to then, well you are looking through black tinted glasses.
How can you not see the fact that we play in a diddy league and then have to compete against some of Europe’s elite with the same players involved in both, because frankly…we cannot afford to pay extravagant prises for players, without putting the club at risk.
Could we do better…certainly and that is what Brendan is trying to achieve, the players are being asked to play an awful lot of games, both for Country and Celtic, playing beyond their limits,
I think they are doing remarkably well.
Brendan is not infallible and yes imo has made some errors, we are not to blind to see that, but he gets a hell of a lot right.
Me….I am enjoying his time at Celtic and loving watching the games at Cellic park and on the telly, oh I just cant get enough.

Season ticket holder for 30 years, faithful through and through, usually attending 40 plus games a season. But unwilling to be uncritical when a believe criticism is due. I am not happy to simply watch celtic roll over dross. To me that is rangers/Sevco supporters. I want to see progress. And I don’t see it. And Ronny deila did not empty the stands Celtic are not the Celtic of old and are followed by thousands of glory hunters, many who only want to attend big games. Funny how Sutton is quoted by celtic supporters when he praises the club but is chastised when he offers an alternative point of view? Winning in Scotland is nothing. You know it but clutch at the straw of winning s treble like it is an achievement. it is not. The proof our European performances. When we have nothing to play we win as soon as we play against a team we get steamrollered. I am a Celtic fan these days as I no longer go to the games and have no right to call myself a supporter I still want them to win every game and they usually do, as any team from the top ten in England would do. But it is Europe that we are defined by and we are failing. winning 20 in a row means nothing. If Celtic don’t win the three cups it is a failure. Well that is the retionale you apply when Celtic go into Europe. These teams only beat us because of money welkl face the music, we only win trebles in Scotland because of the money. No reason to moan about it. But Hibs, StJohnstone, Dundee have all put up a better fight against us than we have against PSG and Bayern. Most of their players did not shit themselves as soon as the whistle was blown. But you simply do not recognise the stacked deck that helps us in Scotland but piss and moan about it when it happens to us in Europe.

Iancelt67 says it all for me, there is no logical financial capacity available for Celtic to compete with Europe’s elite, that leaves the Anderlechts and Borussias of this world. With a treble and two CL group stage qualifications under his belt Brendan has made “progress” ( see what’s I did there) light years away from Ronnie and probably soon to be WGS and Lenny too. More to come from Brendan’s tream but let us stay grounded and enjoy the domination in Scotland, the 1990s were no fun at all.

And I love the sticking plaster of the money earned by qualifying. tell me what is this money for? Because it swure as hell is not getting spent to improve the defence and our chances. But that is right most Celtic supporter now believe like the board that we should not bother spending money to improve the team for Europe as showing up and singing is just as good as competing. Getting hammered doesn’t matter because everyone loves Celtic. So just save the money for bonuses for the board. We will always beat Sevco and that is all that counts . WE KNOW OUR PLACE. And it is not at the top table. Winning the SPL is just as good. We need to get to that 55 so that we can say we are the most successful football club in the wuruld. Give me a break.

Where is the progress? Winning the treble. I could have managed them to the treble last year. Ronny got the sack for not winning the treble. That is how bad scottish football is not winning the treble is a sackable offence. Ronny could not get past the thrird rate European teams that Rodgers has manged to negotiate. But it is hardly the stuff of world beaters. Until Rodgers gets out of the group stages, he has not done as well as Lennon. And winning 40 in a row is not equal to getting out of the group stages in the CL. But the entire club has given up on qualifying for the latter stages and are happy to be in it and we are in with a shout of another 2 games because Anderlecht are even worse than us. Hardly the stuff of glory is it.

Mike, I attended for years regardless of who was the manager or who was in the team. I did not wait for a million pound manager or a winning team to lend them my support. I also did not stop going when they were getting beat and others did not show up. I feel better about retiring now as they have plenty more fans, new and returning, at the moment to cheer them on. Although I would not put 10 quid on them all being there by the start of 2020/21 season. Now, regardless of the football played, which is made to look better by the paucity of the competition, I choose not to go as I am not interested it is pointless. One commentator said about Celtic’s undefeated run during the game on Wednesday ‘you can tell the standard of the league they play in because they have not been beaten in 59 games’. It is hard to argue with this view. The way we have accepted getting battered by big clubs in Europe is the way every other team in Scotland feel about playing us. However, they get a confidence boost when watching us in Europe

John, like you I have watched Celtic for…decades, through rain and wind and weather and some of the time it was….mince. I completely understand your point of view, like you and many other’s I will not go to Ipox or Hampdump, not a penny more to those….pricks. I know that the league we play in is garbage, but that is not Celtic’s fault,
you can only play what’s in front of you and I am completely aware that money is being put aside to pay of debts and build the hotel and museum, for the …future, that is just good business sense but it diminishes the amount that we can spend on players, like most supporters, I love what the support and the club does for worthwhile charities, add the £4. mill. put into all the other SPFL teams. Like you I get not much satisfaction from the teams we are playing in the SPFL, or seeing the team getting tanked in the C.L. but I could not accept buying in success and putting the club at risk. Nobody can predict the future or the course that fitba. will take, time will tell but until then, my love for Celtic, what it stands for and what it does for others and if we can continue obtaining access to the C.L. and further strengthen Celtic then I will be delighted, that will never change, till the day I don my Seville top and get wheeled into the chapel feet first. As for other commentators and other supporters of other clubs and the governing bodies, what they say, well fitba. is an intoxicating subject full of opinions of all colours and every variation, its great, it strengthens the mind and its great to listen to and opine on.

Aye very good charlie. You must be one of those new Celtic supporters. The key to our ‘progress’ has nothing to do with Celtic it is due to the shambles that is Anderlecht. I refer you to the teams that we could have drawn from Pot 3. We got very lucky this year. Will we be as lucky next year, assuming we qualify. You never know we might even spend some money providing we qualify next summer. Although I won’t hold my breath.

The status quo completely obliterates the fairy tale ending for lesser teams to reach big finals . Romania, Scotland Belgium holland Portugal and every other country that have put their teams in finals can forget making it to the end. The script is written for the powerhouses of Spain Italy Germany France and maybe England to take that mantle. It’s gone. We are just fodder used as a training exercise to prime these fuckwits in their quest for glory. Blame Murdoch or the arabs Russians or whoever.
Until there is some parity. We have to keep our identity and do the best we can.

Entertaining John is on again. At this point John we are three points off Bayern Munich and three points ahead of Anderlecht (who have a higher coefficient than we do ) with three games played. Lets repeat it again. Any formation or version of park the bus will fail to withstand PSG and Bayern over 90 minutes. Basically inviting them into our half and hoping for a stout defensive display is a stretch. Brendan is trying to teach a team over time ( he has four years to go ) how to be confident and more consistently competent at this level. There will be a couple of hammerings, some draws a few wins and an occasional excellent win as we learn. I read what Brenan said today and I think he is spot on. We are better than we played, we will learn to be more confident over time and we can learn to impose our style of play and get better in the first half in these really big games. there I a measure of panic here because we lost to Bayern Munich and PSG – jeez. I will panic when we lose to Hamilton accies and hearts!

My club is Celtic Monti. I realise i have not caught up with supporters like yourself and charlie. I have only just recently given up going to Celtic Park. I alsn have not given up on Celtic being a big club like much of the supporters have. Celtic have gone through a bit of a death recently. That is the problem As a club Celtic are in Limbo land. Nothing in Europe beating nothing at home. how many previous winners have to cope with this situation. But many supporters seem to have accepted that celtic are nothing in Europe and have taken it a step further by saying being the Tartan Army 2 in Europe is enough and we should not even bother trying to keep up. Don’t bother signinmg anyone just keep a wee bity in front of Sevco. That will do. Not for me Rangers are dead and I am not interested in the tribute act. They are not rangers and I have never seen celtic playing them because I refuse to recognise them. Unlike everyone on here who would slit their granny’s throat to give them 50 quid. For me the acceptance of capitulation in Europe is not Celtic or its supporters. The chances of getting a result are slim but to not even bother trying has resulted in me taking the decision to stop after this season paying part of Big Peter’s bonus. No more. I take no pleasure in seeing Celtic getting pumped and i am not going to have a party while watching it. i take as little pleasure standing at Celtic Park watching poor Scottish teams get put to the sword and those around me trying to delude themselves that it is some kind of victory. Therefore I have made the decision that I am a fan not a supporter. When some one challenges properly and the stadium empties as all the new supporters find something else to do on a saturday, where they were when previous Celtic teams were not winning i may return. But I doubt it. And the comment about the other teams in Pot 3 and the current Celtic’s teams chances against them?0. If you think that Anderlecht are any where near the stqandard of Roma, Basel, Napoli, Liverpool, Spurs , Besiktas or Olympiakos then I would suggest you have never seen a game of football and spend more time at the pie stall in celtic Park than watching the games. Or taking selfies. you are also a dick.

A parsiminious attitude is the problem at Parlhead, yes hotels and museums are great, but you might as well bring back Delilah.
Supporters support a team on the football pitch, that is the end. Off.
Over the years we have had to put up with Biggins and Cascarino when times were had, the wee an turned it around, but he still Van Hotdoynk, Di Canio, Cadette he realised you had to entertain the fans. However this year the quality is poor, Ntcham, Robetrts, Gamvoa and lastly Hayes enough said.
This is back in the day when we signed Willo Flood, the bun net long gone.
sometimes you have to invest. During the summer it was clear we needed a defensive player or two, nothing.
There has to be a review of where this team is going or BR will walk

Cart,

I agree we are a bit tight but in fairness, we thought we had the New CB sorted, only to be disappointed at the medical. The fault is in not having a backup in mind.

I hope we get one in January and also Ings on loan from L’pool.

Depending on how Mcginn plays we may get him for cash plus Henderson.

Hayes is a donkey, stated this before he signed.I seem to remember Celtic fans were desperate for Paddy to come back, now it seems the tide is turning against him, strange days.Gamboa is going to the World Cup unlike Scottish players. We have Ralston to come in at right back and why was Izza not kept on as back up for KT.He is young and is beginning to look weary plus he takes a lot of punishment during the domestic games. We have plenty money available to sort out the central defence in January….

Monti,

Inbelieve BR will stick with his 4231 formation. Your back four with Brown and Ntcham as the 2, Roberts, Rogic, sinclair as the 3, and Griff as the striker. Mcgregor will come on for Ntcham if he misfires and Forrest late in the game, followed by Dembele for Griff.

This is the game to see how good McGinn is.

If Hibs score first we could be in trouble but it could be a cracking game. I do not think we shall blow them away but I think we shall triumph.

Rebus to be honest with you M8 I don’t give a fuck for the cups or the corrupt organisation that wants Celtic fans to turn out yet beat them with a stick at every other turn. It’s time for Celtic to treat it with the same contempt that they treat us. If only we wouldn’t show up,that would be worth more than any newspaper ad could ever do,to show how unhappy we are with the corruption in our game. I have took my stand and refused the ticket scheme to guarantee tickets,I will never set foot in that ground again. HH tomorrow to the hoops but give me a victory over a champions league team any day. Or a draw against Bayern would do.

Monti, I’m not sure of injuries, but if fit, I’d venture the following (to allow some to rest and also opportunity to claim a place for others). I’d be looking to rest Broony (keep him for the final) before his body gives up on him, he’s carrying another injury. I’d need to drop Gordon and Sinclair to bench.
De Vries; Lustig, Boyata and Tierney; Forrest, McGregor, Ntcham, Bitton and Roberts; Rogic; Dembele. McGregor given a free role according to needs. Subs: Gordon, Ralston, Ajer, Sinclair, Armstrong, Edouard and Griffiths.
