Celtic Diary Sunday May 22: Well Done, Hibernian!

A trio of Celts helped Hibernian to their first Scottish Cup win in 114 years yesterday, Anthony Stokes putting in a tireless shift earning him two goals, a steady performance from Dylan McGeouch and a couple of important corners from substitute Liam Henderson , incluing one that gave captain David Gray the winning goal in injury time.

Admit it, you cheered that goal as much as any Celtic goal this season.

I did.

And Stokes, well he did warn them…

After the game, delighted Hibs fans went onto the pitch, pulled down the goal posts , grabbed some of the turf and beat up a few “rangers ” players.

Allegedly.

There does seem to be some evidence of altercations, such as here, where one chap does look as though he’s about to give Lee Wallace a slap

and here, where Wallace shows his appreciation to the young man,

and here, where Hibernian fans scrambled onto the pitch, clearly loking for trouble

Ridiculous behaviour, and anyone found guilty of assaulting a player should rightly be condemned and feel the full force of the law.

This is probably a fake…

This, however, an equal amount of drivel, is quite real;

With the political parties using football as an excuse to implement draconian public order bills, then this sort of incident plays neatly into their hands.

I can’t figure out how punching an opposition player fits in with celebrating your teams first Cup win in living memory.

Especially now that Nacho Novo has retired.

The game would have had one or two of us shaking our heads and wondering how on earth Celtic failed to get past “rangers ” in the semi final, but I suppose if we aren;t going to win it, then Hibernian is probably the next best thing.

As well as the Celtic contingent at Hibs, players such as Scott Brown , Scott Allan and Leigh Griffiths, pictured on his way home from the game here,

would have been delighted for their old club, and don’t tell me that during the pitch invasion you weren’t keeping half an eye out for Griffiths, possibly stealing a police horse and riding in amongst the “rangers ” support waving a samurai sword, as they had also entered the pitch to join in the celebrations.

Or, as is their wont after a cup final defeat, to have a fight.

Though lets be honest, the “rangers ” fan would have needed some sort of weapon to defend himself. One of the hibs fans had four arms…

Photo published for Rangers Blogger: Hampden mayhem caused by hatred and jealousy from small clubs

Incredibly, the Ibrox support see themselves as the victims here…

I have no intention of attending an away fixture in Scotland in future. Not safe to do so. Hurt their pockets.

However this is dressed up, and it will be, thats what happened. Thats what always happened when they got beat before, and it seems the new club has inherited the old clubs attitude to having their sense of superiority knocked.

And we’ll leave it there, because what the “rangers ” support would have realised yesterday is that their team is a long way short of the standard required to survive in the Premiership, let alone win it.

The management don’t want them to be thinking about that, hence the over the top PR campaign we will be watching for a week or two.

Whereas evidence, well that will be in short supply, and that fact will be drowned out by statements and bluster.

Some of their support, however, took defeat in good spirit, and maintained a dignified air of disappointment;

As, indeed,  did some of those involved in trying to help  lift the new clubs first ever trophy, who left the field feeling perhaps they could have done a little bit more on the day;

But in fairness, at least one of their fans doesn’t seem to have let the defeat bother her, she’s just going to get on with her own life, as after all, it is just a game of football…

Still the fucking people , fuck the hibs fuck the Celtic fuck the shitey police fuck the pope and fuck the fucking ira, just wait ⚪️

 And then there was this…

Gives you an idea of the peepil mentality, as indeed does this video, which appears to show a “rangers ” supporter trying to abduct a child. Blue Jacket, white trainers , four or five seconds in.

child attacked

Back now  to the good guys, and the changes at Celtic have begun, with several players being linked with moves away. Stefan Scepovic may turn his loan at Getafe into a permanent move, although the spanish side have been relegated.

Carlton Cole will be released, Efe Ambrose is interesting Fenerbache, who really must have short memories considering how he played against them earlier this year.

All sorts of names are being bandied about as incoming, including Steven Gerrard , who worked under Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool, which should make for an interesting dressing room if Kris Commons is still around.

Reading first team coach Chris Davies is reportedly going to join Rodgers at Celtic, having worked with him at Swansea, and thats a sign that there will be wholesale changes within the club.

It’s also a sign that Rodgers is definitely his own man, and will not have to put up with company appointments that may threaten to undermine him.

Rodgers has been blamed for spending way too much at Liverpool for little reward, but as at Celtic last year, he was largely presented with players and told to pick one, whereupon a committee would go out and buy them, so its probably unfair to accuse him of wasting money.

Its also a pointer that he will not , or at least you would hope he would not, want to work under that system again, and perhaps use the old fashioned way of identifying a player he wants, as opposed to a position he wants to fill.

If there are to be big changes, then thats the most important one for me.

I do believe that Rangers players were kicked or punched, there can be no excuse for that.
The Rangers fans showed no restraint, they couldn’t wait to get onto the park for a fight,so they must be held to ransom also, the use of pyros, and of course the sectarian singing must also be made accountable. Wonder if both teams will be sent to Edinburgh to see the government EH? Nah don’t think so.
Hibs will get the all the flak that’s how it works here,in this wee bigoted country.

My first attempt seems to have disappeared into the ether!
I hope Brendan Rodgers managed to see Anthony Stokes yesterday and considers bringing him back into the fold. There must have been a clash of personalities or styles of play that forced RD to put him out on loan. I know there are other issues with Stokes, but an experienced manager could have handled them to the benefit of Celtic instead of sweeping them under some other club’s carpet. We all remember the devastating partnership with Gary Hooper both domestically and in Europe. How much more effective would we have been if a similar combination with Griffiths had been nurtured and allowed to flourish? We could have added another 25 goals to our tally, had a more successful Euro campaign and probably played in yesterday’s final. In addition, we would not have had the ridiculous situation of relying on one striker to achieve our limited success and possibly developed other strike formations along the way. I hope our new manager returns to playing the “Celtic Way” and brings back the magic that we have all been missing.

josoc good performance from Stokes against 2nd tier opponents and you want to forget all the crap that went before for us,ffs.

The Media esp, Sky Sports Spews, couldn’t hide their attempts to deflect attention away from the disaster that is Sevco – reporting on a few altercations as if it were World War Three – the best part was when the commentator said: ”they have even thrown a beach-ball onto the pitch for goodness sake”. Wow! a ‘beach-ball’ that is taking their violence a bit too far eh!

On a brighter note it looks like the end of the ‘magic hat trick’ and the end of any possibility of a war chest to stave of relegation for next season – if Sevco last that long.

Congratulations to Hibs and a few mates of mine in Broxburn and Edinburgh will have sore heads and happy sore heads today. What was the police and stewarding plan to prevent anyone getting on the pitch in the first place? Seemed like no plan to me even though it was obvious Hibs fans were headed to the front after the goal. That said this was like Wembley except the opposition fans in this case have a pathology much more violent than the English, hence their spoiling for a fight mentality. Much will be made of this for all the wrong reasons including a few right ones and some kind of pro Sevco narrative will emerge. The real upset here is that it is clear they are nowhere near ready for their first taste of regular premier football. Next year could be fun !

I saw on a few other sites some supporters de a ding to be told the new manager “NOW.” They were like 5 year olds on Christmas Eve wanting their pressies.Demott and Lawwell were brilliant, releasing the news at 5 pm on the evening before a cup final with “Rangers in it.” That was Stein at his best, timing is everything. I see that tumshie Regan has apologized to Sevco directors for yesterday’s disorder. I await his apology to Scottish and Irish Catholics for the offensive bigoted singing and to Hibs Directors for the aggressive Sevco fans who turned a bit of celebratory banter into a battle. Also the flares so front and center as Stokes swept in the first goal. An apology please Mr Regan after all fair is fair right? The Sevco narrative is in full flow here and needs to be challenged by Hibs and objective journalists. They are turning a joyous Wembley like pitch invasion into some kind of organized attempt to discredit them. This lot will find getting beat on a Regular basis next year unpalatable. I hope the police are ready for that as I fear it will end badly regularly

Got up this morning ans checked the ole ceefax (Is that what they call it still?) on bbc. There was the match report from Manu’s fa cup win, various other foreign cup win result and reports. The Hibs v thems score and match report was gone and in its place was a report condemning Hibs supporters. WTF?

The English press down here are all over the fact that Manu haven’t won the cup for 4 years. The fact that Hibs hadn’t won the Scottish cup for 114 years doesn’t seem to warrant a mention. It seems that thems are the ruling body in Scotland and everyone has to do their bidding. Sore losers and a poor showing from the sfa and the smsm on such a historic victory for one of our clubs.

People down here are bemused by it all and can’t understand why the media and Scotland as a whole is not celebrating such a momentous occasion.

What a sorry fucked up anti catholic nation Scotland has become. Everyone is terrified to stand up to these awful people, where will it all end?

BBC ticker-tape headlines on early news this morning gave English and GERMAN cup results. Nothing on Scottish cup. And they ask us to stay in the UK. I get as much intelligent reaction from the goons down here in Geordieland, when I mention the mess Scottish football has been put in by the authorities and them, as you would get from anyone in Newcastle on a Saturday night. It does not bode well for any action from any UK media when it comes to exposing all the shit.

Alternativly we could send a bunch of e=mails to our esteemed CEO.This week is Res12 ad.week,so we do not wish to deflect from that, but it would be great to hear advice or opinions.Add to this and express your views.I am sick to the back teeth of the club not responding to attacks from the Hun press,SFA etc.

Mike, you’re spot on with this. I’ll sit anywhere on any bus I fucking choose (if the seat’s not already taken). The ‘back of the bus’ is not an option unless I choose it or it’s the only place vacant.
There’s more we can do here: consider the shenanigans around company names. The original Rangers Football Club PLC, yes, that scum that went into Liquidation, were somehow allowed to change the company name (once they knew a CVA was not possible) to RFC 2012. A clear and obvious pre-planned tactic to retain the ‘same club’ shite.
Well, the SFA may not be subject to the Freedom of Information Act but Companies House IS. How about a conjoined effort to take these arseholes to task and shed a bucket of light on the whole fucking corrupt saga?

First of all, congratulations to Hibs. From what I have seen – only highlights – they more than deserved their win. I endorse all the comments about Stokes’ excellent performance though I am not laying too much store in a one-of-in-three years’ performance. However, it would be hypocritical, even given the tenor of the opposition support and their disgraceful behavior all during the match, not to condemn outright the unacceptable behavior of the Hibernian fans. It is one thing to over-react after a momentous win but to be destructive and aggressive manifests willful, deliberate and suspiciously premeditated misconduct.

Now, having said all that, the statement from Regan and the immediate media reaction would be laughably ludicrous if it were not a terrifying indication of how far those with great influence in Scottish football in this country are prepared to go to exonerate and make victims of the other perpetrators. On top of that, we have had to endure, not one, but two outlandish statements from unknown representatives (faceless cowards more like) of a club whose fans have been the embodiment of outrageous behavior over many, many years, about how shocked and disgusted they are with Hibernian FC, the Hibs supporters, the SFA, their own in-the-pocket media – let’s pray this will turn enough of the yellow livered journalists to expose the truth about the shenanigans in Scottish football over the last four years and before – , the SNP, Celtic, every other club in Scotland, Catholic schools and their football teams, the referee and assistants – it appears they got the handshakes mixed up yesterday. That’s what happens when one finger doesn’t know what the other is doing – the groundsmen, the tea ladies, the ball boys and, oh yes, all you bastards that were rooting for Hibs in front of your teles – usually referred to as couch potatoes but, in this instance, as fenians. If I have missed anyone out, please write to Mr. A. McCoist. He knows how to get names. Then we get the humdinger of all humdingers today from what appears awful like a nag or perhaps the prize nag itself in the Traynor stables – it reeks of nowhere else. If I could cry for anything in Scottish football outside of Celtic, I would have shed bucket-loads for this disillusioned fool.

However, the real interest comes in the weeks ahead when we witness the slowest inaction from Hampden and the blankest sports reporting of all time. By June, yesterday will only have seen an average unimportant game of football with nothing, no not a thing, to write about. The silence will be deafening and if a word is said, it will be like a bolt from the skies of doom. Mr. Regan should take note of where Armageddon is. It is imbedded so deeply in the Ibrox mindset it cannot be found in the most detailed of Google Maps even using the “wee man”. If mass destruction is lurking anywhere it is in the dungeons of the Big Hoose. Armageddon was not to be realised in the demise of Rangers in 2012 but in allowing the conception of a new sticky fly paper to which the reincarnated fan base has stuck. The pudding that contained all the proof that was needed was on full display, like an over-baked spotted dick, at Hampden yesterday.

Ah! It is nice to be back and fill the lungs with a good old craw at the expense of those who deserve it. I had a decidedly messy weekend but I am still filled with an unsurpassing joy that will see me through to next season when, one prays, the prophet of a bright future turns out to be the long awaited messiah.
