Celtic Diary Friday 17 April : 3am Thinking: Are They At It Again ?

You would have been in self isolation indeed had you not noticed the screaming and wailing from Ibrox now that nearly every other club in Scotland has decided to act in their own interests and vote for an early end to the season, which will allow them to take stock of the current situation, and plan ahead for hopefully a fresh start next season.

But not “rangers “, and that bugs me.

And the SPFL, so keen to bend over backwards for them in the past, have suddenly turned against them as well, prompting calls for suspensions, resignations and a bloody good kick up the arse.

A war of words, in public, between the club/company and the authorities.

None of it makes sense, so I’ve been thinking.

It’s accepted that “rangers ” needed £10m just to see out the season. That cannot be denied, as it’s in their accounts.

Hang on….did someone say accounts ?  ( Yes, you , you fucking idiot-Ed )

We’ve not seen any submission of any accounts to the SFA from Ibrox, and yet a pish stained drunk-we know loads of them -tells me they are at the SFA- and they don’t make for good reading.

Well, that depends on who is reading them, of course, if it was me I may actually call them really good reading, and would perhaps need to purchase a pair of corsets to make sure my ribs remained intact after my sides had subsided and my tears had dried.

Could that explain the desperation for money from Ibrox during the tantrums over the ending of the season ?

Not entirely, because the prize money alone would not fill the gaping hole in the finances. That would take the sale of Morelos, Tavernier and probably the main stand to realise.

But it’s that time of year again, the time of year when all clubs must submit their accounts to the SFA, who then forward them to UEFA, who then allocate licences for teams to play in Europe, and “rangers ” need that European money.

As we have seen in the past, the SFA have one or two people-no pun intended, honest- who have been known to turn a blind eye to little irregularities such as crystallised tax bills in order to circumvent rules set by UEFA to make sure that their favourites are given a fighting chance to avoid an insolvency event.

European money coming in later can often offset debts now, but as Craig Whyte found out, having a diddy manager in place can destroy all the hard work done by the men behind the scenes.

So, in the early hours of the morning when sleep doesn’t come easy, a train of thought left the station in my fertile and perhaps over active imagination.

We know that the media, and the authorities , in Scotland subscribe to the “We need a strong “rangers ” philosophy “, and we know that the game, for better or worse, is marketed around the bigotry and poison associated with that game among anyone who has never actually been to one.

We also know that the authorities are prepared to do anything , including breaking the rules, to perpetuate that situation.

We know that “rangers ” are on the brink of an insolvency event. They’ve said as much themselves, and we know that they are desperate for cash.

Remember the demand to play the Livingston game twenty four hours after it’s postponement, much to the annoyance of their opponents ? The desire to play the Ibrox Glasgow derby, now forgotten as it’s become obvious that people would have died ?

With football stopped, for an unknown length of time, there is no money coming in to Ibrox, and therefore the insolvency event that would be the result of not getting that £10m through the door must be a little closer.

If they were to undergo an event, they would lose an automatic 15 points, putting them twenty eight points behind Celtic, with nine to play.

Not only would they have conceded a ninth successive title to Celtic, they would have uniquely lost it both on and off the park.

Imagine the meltdown then….which would hit season book sales, merchandise-though no kit deal means there’s not much of that, and more importantly, any further share dilution or directors short term loans.

Now, another consequence of an insolvency event would be exclusion from European football, as it would be in those accounts that they were waist deep in sticky brown stuff, with no one on hand to pull them out.

One can only wonder if the racket they’ve been making, which they say is for the good of the small clubs, was actually on behalf of themselves, especially given that they have absolutely no previous for altruistic behaviour, especially where money is concerned.

Their support would happily see every other club go under, and are in fact threatening to boycott all the other grounds again, because those clubs have not seen that “rangers ” wanted to help them, and so they must be punished.

That alone doesn’t make sense, and so with the mainstream media in Scotland currently firing at the “shambolic ” SPFL, who, remember, are the clubs, could it be that the new men on the block there are not as keen to support any shennannigans as the SFA have been ?

The SFA have remained remarkably quiet on this issue, when perhaps they could have mediated.

So perhaps they could put my mind at rest.

Do the SFA have the Ibrox accounts, which should have been submitted by now in order to process an application for European football next season ?

If so, is everything in order ?

If it isn’t, does that explain the cry for help and early disbursement of prize monies, which whilst not enough to completely ease any financial issues the club /company may have,  but perhaps cover the waterfront just enough to allow for European football next season, by making it look like they are still a going concern ?

Are the events of 2011, the core events that led to Resolution 12,  being repeated behind closed doors at Hampden, and is that why “rangers ” are currently filling the pages of the papers to deflect away from any difficult questions about their viability as a football club ?

Or company.

Something isn’t sitting right, and I’d like to see the SFA clarify that all is in order, something that no doubt Peter Lawwell will be looking into.

None of this is his fault, of course, but if he fails to act a second time should it be proved that an Ibrox entity has had a little help from its friends, then his position would become untenable.

I think it’s that they want the season to continue so that the insolvency event and points deduction happens this season when they had no chance of winning it. Instead it’ll happen next and put them 15 points behind straight away therefore making stopping 10 a near impossible task

This may open them up to too many law suits but is there any room for UEFA to cancel all European qualifying rounds? Assign CL and Europa group places based on co-efficients. This would mean next season’s competitions could more or less start on time as they wouldn’t need to get the qualifiers done first. Where would that leave Celtic?
More to the point where would it leave Sevco? They may be out of Europe before the season even begins. Haha! Just a thought.
For the record, I hope they have disappeared completely before then anyway.
Surely the longer it takes them to call time on this league the more chance of them going into administration. I hope the SPFL hold out and wait to play the season out at the start of next season. Hopefully also giving Big Mike time to conclude his court case with them (and refuse a CVA).

It gets boring sitting in the Massey Ferguson self isolating going up and down the tattie drills sounding the horn repeatedly at the seagulls. But self isolation gives you the opportunity to think back to the “gory”years of how the mighty “Rangers” lied and cheated from 1998 with its non disclosed tax payments. Murray of course denied them and Hugh Adams told the truth. The £2.8 million Wee Tax Case, paid to 3 players by EBT’s. in 1999. The Big Tax Case of millions of unpaid tax. 53 players and 15 staff on EBT’s. Then, even in 2012 the narrative began to mention “the company running “Rangers”. Liquidation, owing £134m. It seems surreal, to read AGAIN of the lies and the cheating and the sheer brass necked effrontery emanating from Govan “they have no shame”. “The Asterisk Years” by Paul Larkin”, reveals all. We must revisit the LNS. inquiry and fight to “ASTERISK” those stolen trophies and titles, too never give up on them, the fight for honesty must continue.

Yes! Re-open LNS! Why has no-one challenged the LNS position yet? That would hurt them most. Only way to apply a fitting punitive measure. 0-3 in each game. Titles stripped. Let that club die in utter ignominy. As is truly fitting.

Mike

That, to reopen the LNS. inquiry with its SFA. driven agenda and decision is what should drive us all on, to right that dreadful wrong. We should always strive for an open and honest game and to re-insert the truth and expose the liars and the cheats.

Jimboh, hope you are well. I think its important to keep on reminding ourselves of all that what went on and to refresh our memories of it. Who was the individuals who carried out the cheating and what their roll in it was. Its right that Auldheid and Ralph jog our memories about it all and we are grateful to them for doing so. David Low at the Celtic Trust will add his shoulder to it as well. When football returns we should all add our voices and unite to get the club to take a different stance, one that pursues good governance. If we don’t then Scottish football will remain in the sewer.

I would gladly take an asterisk for this season with the explanation that the world came to a standstill, that we were 13 points ahead (technically 14 on goal difference), with the proviso that an asterisk and explanation of their old clubs cheating through the EBT years and their subsequent demise. Also the three championships awarded during the 1st World War should be struck from the record or accorded an asterisk with the explanation the fuckers hid at home. Do that and yep I’ll take that.

An interesting point was raised the other day (I think it was on the podcast) regarding the possibility of UEFA allowing insolvent clubs to compete in their competitions on the grounds of force majeure. It’s still too early for any official decisions to be made in this sense but it’s something that could come into play. Several clubs will be in that boat come August/September and this might be one of the few hopes thay have left to cling to. The huns and other debt-ridden clubs, of course, still have a huge job on their hands to survive until then remembering there are no guarantees of any kind during these uncertain times.

Mike

Reply to  Yoker Bhoy

Yoker that is the “get out of jail card” that might, might just keep them limping along and shows the utter hypocrisy of their recent wailing. But as Ralph says that would have to be accompanied with player sales and reinforces the point about the coke heid’s sale. We look back to Whyte’s shock when the gardener’s effort to achieve C.L. football failed. THAT is where their salvation could lie, C.L. football, that or their takeover by some idiot with money to burn, or insolvency. There’s not many idiots with money to burn, oh wait….

Yoker Bhoy
Reply to  Mike

Yep, I expect the sevco fire sale to open up pretty soon. Taking Morelos’ appalling disciplinary record and pish recent form into account, there would be few clubs willing to take the risk and he wouldn’t be their most prized asset anyway. The only player they could maybe get 10M+ for is Barisic (a couple of big Italian clubs are supposedly interested in him). The poing is they’ll be desperate to sell so their bargaining position won’t be too strong when that time comes round.

Interesting point about force majeure.
However I would query this in sevco’s case since they were insolvent before the crisis struck and were most likely trading whist insolvent.

Their hope would be that the Covid fuelled financial crisis masks the fact that they weren’t and aren’t a going concern in any case.

Just one point to consider. There will be no vaccine available for a substantial length of time.In an exit strategy this means that social distancing will remain until this virus is under reasonable control. How can Celtic invite applications for nearly 60,0000 STs when it’ll not be safe to sit within two metres(although tests show it should be further) of other members of the public. What about the hospitality suites and the food and drink concessions? I know this will affect other clubs but I’m not bothered about them.I hope Peter and the Plc are going to be totally upfront when we enter the exit stage about safety coming before cash with severe changes regarding attending a game going to have to be applied……Keep Safe Tims…

The desperation seeps through the copy by Scotia’s media, Ralstons article in the Daily Wanker is hysterical. Am not happy with the completion of the league by the SPFL, it denied Celtic the chance to put them in their place, but needs must.
The diarrhoea from the media and the knuckledraggers, hysterical, everyone hates them. They will take everyone to court, in the meantime they will buy Hagi and various others with their stupendous wealth. As values of players drop by the day, Barisic and Alfredo will be a drain on their resources.
These are stupid stupid huns, a bit like the wee huns and Budgie in denial that they were crap on the field, except against the Big Huns that they walloped.
As they trundle towards oblivion, never to win a trophy, in this sad world it keeps you happy and entertained.

Old Pedro’s saying when the dogs bark the caravan moves on seems very apt to the howling coming from the govan hoardes.
A democratic decision was taken on very difficult circumstances where not one club chairman or woman would have wanted to end the season in this way.
Celtic would have loved to have won another treble on the field of play nobody was stopping us.
But it isn’t to be people are dying,in our communities in our families and among people we know.
It is the right decision it is the decent and right thing to do.
So let them howl at the moon let them take the spfl or sfa to task if that’s what they want.
Did they give any respect to Livingston when they demanded their match played 24 hours after postponement did the spfl no they didn’t.
So all their talk of the good of the game and fairness is just bullshit from a club who woukdnt know sporting integrity or fairness if it hit them right in the face.
So the dogs are barking but the caravan will move on. HH

Joining the army is a personal choice before 1970 many young men joined up for the excitement of oversees travel ,the chance of gaining a trade . However from then on anyone who did any research would be aware the army were involved in a brutal war in the North of Ireland . They were responsible for mass killings of men women & children. They extended the length & brutality of the war .
After the Irish battle was over the Iragis , The people of Afghanistan & Iran were next to suffer onslaughts . Not many should want to join such a killing machine

The Omagh bombing of course was a terrible atrocity.
Was probably the work of a British agent within the real IRA. A warning was given to the security forces that something big was going to go down. The man responsible for the bomb making was identified and the car registration given. The bomb was able to travel to Omagh in the car.
The British had played a part in allowing the bomb to go off.
The bomb maker within that group was working for the British. Hence the bomb was allowed to be detonated and reach Omagh so easily I suggest. They could not jeopardise their tout no matter the terrible consequences.
Has anyone been convicted ?

“The irony is that the club “Rangers”- (Newco) still exists, it exists, but it only exists in the eyes of the SPL now SPFL- (Doncaster). and of course its luny tuned supporters, who PRESUME that it retains its titles and trophies. But it does not exist in the eyes of the LAW. The 5 Way Agreement acknowledges in black and white that it is a NEW CLUB. So- Would a legal challenge in a court of law confirm that A.- it is a new club ( as we know it is) and B.- that it has no rights to claim Old-co’s history, titles and trophies? officially. Rendering all claims to them Null and Void.

Charlie Saiz I note your comments about joining the army at 17. What annoys me is how the RN and British Army are allowed to trawl round schools in the poverty stricken parts of Glasgow to recruit young children. As I worked in secondaries in that area I objected to the targeting of children coming from deprived areas to no avail.Your choice is your choice, but targeting minors to me is a no no, especially in schools.

I’m pretty sure that the £10m to see out the season was in last year’s accounts, so is already wildly out of date:

1. Said money was to be ponied up by King and not only is he not now paying, he also wants his loans paid off.

2. Obviously was before COVID-19 struck, so likely to be far higher.

3. Various court and kit, er, setbacks, which will also increase their indebtedness.

Also, I’m pretty sure I read that UEFA had extended the 31st March Accounts deadline, perhaps indefinitely.

This is fine for responsible clubs who had prepared their submissions but obviously need to re-assess for current crisis.

The Huns have probably lucked out on this one, as they were in no position to supply acceptable ones by then but its simply kicking the can down the road.

I see Celtic has now started on the pitch. Anyone thinking that football is going to return real soon is in for a big shock.
Without a worldwide easily accessible vaccine to the covid virus then there is no chance in hell football will return to filled stadiums. A vaccine is way in the distance yet I cannot see Football as we know it returning before the Autumn at the earliest.

Good one Monti! For many of us elders this is a battle to have a future, for our children and grandchildren. As Klopp said, “of all the least important things in life, football is the most important of those least important things…”Life many never get back to what we knew, let alone having full football stadiums. Sevco meanwhile, should have done their talking on the pitch where it counted. Hearts as well. Both teams are showing what we always knew…lack of class, lack of understanding, lack of charity. The funny thing about zombies is that they don’t really know they are dead! Jimmybee, you’re spot on. By most estimates, we are still 12-18 months away from a vaccine that might work. We don’t even know yet if people can acquire immunity to Covid-19 the same as you can for other viruses if you have been
