Celtic Diary Tuesday April 23: Celts Move To End Uncertainty

Let’s face it.

The doubt in the boardroom has made the manager hesitant to commit himself and the players a little unsure of their own future.

So…perhaps sooner rather than expected, and not entirley with the support of the support, Celtic have moved to make Neil Lennon the man to take the club forward.

Well, at the very least he’ll move sidieways and keep us where we are, which domestically should be enough to secure a treble this year and the next two titles.

All that remains is for Lawwell and Lennon to agree on a transfer budget, and the seeds of dissension sewn by Brendan Rodgers can be blown away.

Thats the theory, at least.

Everybody happy ?

Of course not.

Situations Vacant

Wanted: Football manager to assume control of all matters relating to the players, including purchase and selling, remuneration, training, fitness, diet and all matters concerning health and wellbeing, both physical and mental.

Pay not great but if you do well you might get a better job.

Club currently dominate domestically due to a huge gap in finances compared to their opposition, but an equally large gap prevents any progress in europe, but the fans love a european home game and always get mentioned on the telly, especially if they win a game or two,  and therefore allowing a successful apllicant the necessary publicity to get a better paid job.

The successful applicant must be prepared to face a hostile media, a corrupt governing body and physical violence, real and threatened, from fans of an opposing club, or company.

The position has become available because although the current interim boss looks set to lift a further two trophies which would complete a clean sweep some miserable sods are moaning that on at least three occasions the football on display has fallen short of the standards set by Brazil in 1970,  Ajax in the 70s and Milan in the 90s .

Oh, and it’s always raining.

Yeah, they’ll be beating Lawwell’s door down for that one.

The point is that the Celtic job is no longer the attraction it used to be.

Certainly not if an EPL side comes knocking, as we saw earlier this season.

Well, to be fair to Lawwell, he saw that one coming last summer, and put a block on Rodgers and his scatter gun approach to spending the clubs money.

Although it was too late to stop a few of the more bizarre ventures into the market.

Ten in a row is at the top of the list now.

Under no circumstances will the board risk losing out on their place in history, even though one day history will remember their part in the Resolution 12 scandal.

Lennon is far and away the best, if not the only option to guide the club along the home straight of this particular race.

No one else can be trusted.

Lennon won’t walk away when someone else waves a chequebook.

He has shown he can win trophies, manage players and get results.

The players like and respect  him, and by clarifying that he will be here next year, plans can be out in place to if not rebuild, certainly redesign the team.

You may have noticed that the plans have already been announced to take the players to Austria and Switzerland pre season.

The announcement of Lennon , be it now, next week or even next month will happen, transfer budget permitting, and we’d better get used to it.

He’s done what he was asked to do, and whilst it hasn’t been pretty, it’s a results business, and he’s getting them…

The sooner we do, the sooner everyone will relax.

Speaking of new managers, we hear a new man may be in place at Ibrox soon..he does seem to have the criteria..

Speaking of Dick Braines, how about this…?

Matthew Lindsay: Rangers can topple Celtic as the dominant force in Scotland next season if . .

He then goes on to list a fairly long list of “ifs “…

All of which read like a discarded chapter from Alice Through The Looking Glass..discarded as being too far fethced for even the most child like imagination…but hey ho…season books are on sale.

So, as Lindsay declares, if my auntie had baws she’d be my uncle.

Here we go again. 55 is coming and so on..

The repetition every season of their war cry is becoming tedious. hilarious, but tedious.

They need to freshen things up-itself an alarming phrase for them- and move with the times.

Even the Scout movement have decided to get down with their homies…

Mind you, given how long it’s taking them to join us in the 21st century, we might be waiting a while.

It’s been some time since we had a diary, due to technical issues, and now it seems that normal service has resumed.

Here’s a picture to ponder..

Here’s a thought..

If Celtic did write to UEFA to complain about the granting of a licence to the old Rangers, what was in the reply ?

And why is it that we still don’t know, nearly a decade later ?

And, more seriously,  there were reports that the sniffer dogs employed at Easter road at the weekend may themselves be subject to chemical abuse..

At the time of writing, I’ve just seen this…

Rest in peace ….

I appreciate sadder events have happened that I’ll comment on separately but on the matter mentioned in today’s blog about Celtic contacting UEFA in 2012, here is a link to a copy of that letter taken from reports in The Sun and The Times.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1C8BvxddEbtQKL-rAa1yWZ6X5SOSNcdUk/view

Note that it WAS copied to Infantino (not exactly Mr Squeaky Clean).

What is interesting is during the meetings in pursuit of Res12 from 2014 this correspondence was never produced and when it was in 2017 the question was why not?

The presumption is that had it been revealed before 2017 the natural question would be what did Infantino say?

That is still unknown but it might explain Celtic’s reluctance to go anywhere near UEFA in pursuit of Res12.

Rumsfeld would have a field day.

” There are known knowns. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns – the ones we don’t know we don’t know. Then there is Res12.”

Holy smoke, (and mirrors?)! I’ve never heard of, nor seen that letter, dated 45 years to the day of our most famous victory.
Why was it not put ‘out there’ at the time? And what of the response, or lack thereof?
Russia was once described (by that fly old bastard Churchill?) as something like an enigma wrapped in a puzzle surrounded by a maze.
Similar words apply here and we’re no closer to the truth being exposed, nor to any adjustment to titles/trophies stolen. Note I do NOT use “title-stripping” as it’s an emotional rant about something which can be solved by simple application of the rules: huns lose every game by 0-3 and records are amended accordingly.
Now what, on Earth, is difficult about that?
Speak up Mr. Lawwell, it’s not over until the fat Monti sings you know! 🙂 (or preferably you “sing”) See you both in Sing Sing.

A very sad day indeed, every Celtic fan will carry a heavy heart today at the loss of Billy McNeil our greatest captain.
Those of us of a certain generation will cherish the memories he left behind, going to Celtic Park and seeing him lead out the Hoops.
YNWA and your memory will live long with us.

I was at Hampden,a wee bhoy, when he picked up his first winners medal and was present when he picked up his last as a player before l headed to the gold paved streets of London because l couldn’t get a job in the country of my birth because of the school I attended.
More than forty years later l will be at Paradise on Saturday (God willing)to pay homage to a true colossus of a player and man.
God bless you Billy and may you rest in eternal peace

The Star

It was oh so early on Christmas morn’

and the smiling face of my wee first born,

‘I love my Hoops Dad, I love the crest,

but why this star here upon my chest?’

The star first rose back in ‘67

The league, two cups and the Bhoys in heaven.

When in the warmth of the Lisbon sun

The mighty Inter were thrashed 2-1.

Simpson and Gemmell, Chalmers and Auld

McNeill and Murdoch and the Buzz Bomb,

Clark, Craig and Murdoch – our greatest team,

Watching over Jinky, was big Jock Stein.

And to those Lions who have passed on,

to a golden sky and the sweet lark’s song.

You were our finest, your country’s best

God grant you light and eternal rest.

So on the Hoops now we wear the star

and follow Celtic both near and far.

Through good and bad times; what fortune brings,

we have our dreams and our songs to sing.

Belgian giants Anderlecht and the Belgian F.A. have been raided by the police in connection with money laundering, involving agents and player transfers. Their F.A. said that documents relating to transfers from its H.Q. Anderlecht are fully cooperating with the police…

… or play like Celtic in the late sixties.
Sorry but I don’t think he is the best WE can get and may not be that safe a pair of hands. I would take only the league and a continuing improvement in Europe ( even the EL) every year.

Nice comments by John Greig.
Also liked when he recalled after they beat England in ‘67.He was sitting with Faither at the reception afterwards when Bobby Moore came over to congratulate them.” Well at least you’ll be off on your holidays now?” says Bobby.
“No “ says Greig, “ I’ve got the Cup Winners Cup final and he’s got the European Cup Final”
Moore genuinely didn’t know.

Listened to an interview with the king and an English chic in the nineties. Billy exuded fairness almost to a point where he seemed pure and honest. He was. He played the game as it should be played with sportsmanship and heraldry nothing dirty in his locker. What a man. It makes me wonder if men behaved with more aplomb than they do now. In all walks of life maybe we have lost the plot. Mcneil apart from his anti Scottish devolution stance was a real man a fucking legend politics aside could we ask for better. Loved him and cried last night on hearing of his passing. God bless you Cesar. You were our leader

“I commend our political leaders for standing together in Creggan on Good Friday. I am however left with a question. Why in God’s name does it take the death of a 29 year old woman with her whole life in front of her to get us to this point?“ Father Magill

President Higgins is the man. What a wonderful leader such genuine compassion you will never see from any other leader of the world.
