They’re not giving up.
Now Brendan is off to Russia, or at least the Sun reckons its a possibility…
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers linked with Spartak Moscow job as Rangers’ Euro opponents show ‘interest’ in Hoops gaffer
Rodgers has been named as a contender in Moscow reports with Spartak thought to be looking across Europe after sacking gaffer Massimo Carrera
Of course, we don;t get to read these Moscow reports, or even learn where they are from, but we are told…
Rodgers has been installed as sixth favourite at 11/1 by Russian bookies after the Italian was axed following a 3-2 home defeat to Arsenal Tula on Sunday.
I couldn’t be arsed to check Russian bookmakers, and neither can anyone else, which is presumably why they printed that.
Sixth favourite…they obviously have inside knowledge.
It gets worse for Brendan…
Marvin Compper slams Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers in astonishing rant.
Thats yer man Record Sport Online again, which usually means the headline will have little to do with the story.
Which it doesn’t.
Comperr was talking to German magazine Bild….
“I’m fit and I train very well.
“Even my team-mates do not understand why I do not play.
They do. They’re just being polite.
“In the summer I had a calf injury. I got an athletic trainer and a physio at my own expense and made myself fit.
His own expense ? Poor soul, but I think he’s probably wise not to talk about money going out of his acount where it need not be.
Now it is up to the coach Brendan Rodgers to finally give me the trust.
“I still have a contract until 2020, but of course I do not want to sit on the bench.
He isn’t even making the bench.
“In August, Celtic suggested to me about a change of club. But I do not want to move on so easily.
This has nothing to do with Celtic giving him a deal until 2020 when everyone else looked at his injury record and thought “no ”
“I hope for my chance and want to play.”
Bild interviewed him ahead of the Liepzig game, him being a German and all that , it makes sense for them to give their readers a wee bit of inside information…
“I hope we take something from the game but it will be very difficult for us.
“We do not defend well, the gaps are not right. If we play against Leipzig like the last time we played in the Europa League, then we’ll lose.
Hang on, I’ll have him know the gaps in our defence are the biggest and best gaps in Europe.
The word on the street is that Comperr has not turned out to be the player-or the man- we thought he would be, and thats not all down to injuries…
But the paper calls it a rant, and its far from that.
Its just a fringe player saying he wants to force his way into the team. Which is not a rant.
This is a rant…
You would think they would have some sense at least, i was at a night at the Louden and Bomber was there he wouldnt start talking until everyone put their phones away cos of what happened to Donald Findlay. If your a fan dont record if you do keep it off social media!!!
This is the opinion of a “rangers ” supporter following the latest outbreak of pope fucking from from one of their former players.
Ian Durrant joins Paul Gascoigne, Bob Malcolm, Nacho Novo and once, the entire dressing room in being caught on camera stating their displeasure at an international religious leader.
Durrant has since apologised…
“I’d like to apologise for my comment at a recent Sportsman’s Dinner event in Lanarkshire. I meant to cause no offence to anyone.”
Saying I’d like to apologise is not the same as saying I’m sorry. If you don’t believe me, try it at a funeral.
Put simply, its bigotry. Its abuse aimed at a section of society purely because they are a section of society. for a figure in the public eye, one who is being paid to appear at a public function, it is unacceptable, and I await with interest the response from the police.
Meanwhile, those in the gallery that he plays to have their own thoughts, if , of course, thoughts is the right word..
There are no words.
Bigotry and hatred is fine, as long as we don’t let anyone know we’re bigots… presumably because they’re bigots and will have a go at us.
Fortunately, that breed is dying out. Its just taking a little longer than it did for their club.
But we don’t want to talk about them.
There’s two big games this week. and its probably a good thing that there are all these distractions in the media to allow the lads to get on with training.
Celtic will have a session at Murrayfield when they get back from Germany to prepare for sundays semi final, which will help re focus them after they return.
The Liepzig game is going to be tough.
They drew 0-0 at Augsberg at the weekend, sending them spinning back down to fifth in the league, but thats more an indication of how tight the German league is this early on, as it is in most places.
Which, incidentally, is not how the Record described it…
RB Leipzig are performing well in the Bundesliga just five points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund and Celtic are huge underdogs going into their backyard.
They’ve still only lost one out of eight in the league though, and cannot be underestimated.
Celtic will need to be at their very best to come away with anything from this one, but the signs on Saturday were that we are not to be written off either.
The way things are going, we now expect Celtic to score, and that wasn’t the case a few weeks ago.
Filip Benkovic has spoken of the desire in the dressing room to do well…
“European football is top for me and these games against teams like Leipzig are special because the players are all international level and they are main players in the national teams.
“It’s a challenge for us to see where we are and to try to be competitive.
“We want to compete and to show that to everyone.
“They played very good football last year. Even Bayern Munich could not say this was a certain three points because of the level Leipzig have reached.
But we can’t go there to give up. We must fight for the 90 minutes and try to get some points.
“It can be our toughest game. But we have one clean sheet, why not another?”
I’m not convinced he’s committed to the cause yet, though Thursday will hopefully change my mind.
Yesterday, we had this picture..
