Its all very well clamouring for new signings, and expecting players of quality to roll up and sign for the hoops.
Its all very well pointing out that there is money in the bank, and screaming for it to be spent.
But until the players on the list have weighed up all of their options, none of them are going to commit to Celtic until they know whether or not European football is on the agenda.
Friday is going to be a busy day, and there is still no guarantee that Europa League football will be enough of an incentive.
The champions League was the big selling point, and as UEFA move away from including most nations champions in it, that this frutrating scenario will become more of an issue in years to come.
We may not like it, but Celtic are not the most attractive proposition for a certain level of player.
Washed out racist defender John Terry had agreed to join the club, but thats when he thought we’d be in the champions League. I’ve sent a thank you to AEK Athens.
After Ian Wright, Carlton Cole and Kolo Toure’s efforts on the pitch, I’m surprised the club even considered bringing another player north for a well paid semi retirement.
We’re more likely to see players leave, with Moussa Dembele certainly consodering his future, though whether or not he’ll go is up to him.
L’OM a contacté le Celtic mardi matin au sujet d’un transfert de Moussa Dembélé. Les dirigeants écossais sont ouverts à la discussion mais lui trouver un remplaçant avant la fin du mercato pourrait rendre l’opération infaisable.
OM contacted Celtic on Tuesday morning about a transfer from Moussa de Leon. Scottish leaders are open to discussion but finding a replacement before the end of the Mercato could make the operation unfeasible.
Valere Germain, a forward who joined Marseille from Monaco last year, could be offered as a makeweight. Some makeweight. They spent £9m on him.
Lyon are also interested, and the Scottish media, anxious to pretend they know what they are on about, claim the player “would not be averse to a move to his homeland ” .
Who are we playing on Sunday ? Not that that would influence the narrative
But don’t worry, if Dembele goes, we’ve lined up Shane Long as a replacement.
Olivier Ntcham has apparently decided to stay at the club, having turned down a chance to go to Porto after the Portuguese club offered £14m for him.
That doesn’t surprise me. He wanted to come to Celtic to work with Brendan Rodgers, and was always unlikely to bail out at the first opportunity.
Harold Moukoudi is attracting the interest of Aston Villa, and he may not even leave Le Havre, but again, i wouldn;t worry too much about this. Along with several others, he will bide his time until Friday before making a final decision.
Nick Powell, a midfielder who was linked with Celtic a few years ago is playing well for Wigan and is also on the radar, adding to the general feeling of whelms being undered.
Sometimes we like to blame the board, but realistically, we were always going to have to wait until Friday anyway for the top players, even had we overcome AEK.
Having said that, I’m sure that a quick glance at the players who won’t be in Manchester City’s Champions League squad will give you a clue as to who will end up waving a Celtic scarf on Friday for the cameras.
Someone has passed a medical at an unnamed club…
Before Friday, there is the matter of Suduva at Celtic Park to take care of.
Oddsone Edouard is back in training, and so far he hasn’t hurt himself again, so he could make the bench tomorrow, and possibly even link up with Moussa Dembele against “rangers ” on Sunday. If his fellow Frenchman is still here, of course.
The initial signs were that the two would play together this season, and they looked good earlier on until injury separated them, so maybe we might get lucky and see more of that partnership.
And they would certainly help to put Stevie Gerrards gas at a peep.
One of the reasons that the SMSM use to defend themselves when they hesitate to tell the truth over the actions and inactions of a Glasgow football club and its supporters is that they are afraid to upset them.
When someone does call it like it is, and when someone stands up to their bullying, they are hounded beyond what is acceptable in a civilised society.
Angela Haggerty has seen her two columns in the Sunday and Glasgow Herald newspapers fall victim to the restructuring at the papers.
It’s quite disturbing to see the online abuse that followed her announcement, and you don’t have to look too hard to see the common denominator in the abusers.
Its also quite disturbing to note that not one single journalist has offered any support, and quite disgraceful that the story hasn’t made the news.
The only journalist with any courage in Scotland to actually tell it like it is has been sacrificed to appease the mob. Thats how I see it.
And how they have feasted ….
I won’t reproduce the comments on social media, you don’t need much of an imagination to work out who they are from and what they say.
You might want to listen to this interview she recorded on the BBC 5 Live Stephen Nolan show a few weeks back, where she discusses the effects of abuse. The interview is 1 hour 37 minutes into the broadcast..
But yet again, a media who are too afraid to even mention the name of that club in association with any wrongdoings their supporters, or indeed the club commit, have let down one of their own.
One who showed no such fear.
We showed this picture yesterday…
