Celtic Diary Tuesday April 25: So Easy Really.

No diary appeared yesterday, largely because I couldn’t see the laptop and my hands were shaking a little, making typing impossible.

With Sunday matches the norm these days, perhaps it might be an idea to stop when the beer tally enters double figures, but its difficult to resist the temptation to have a few after the game as well.

Image result for drunk

Nevertheless, a good time was had by all, and it was refreshing to see that even the “rangers ” players at a post match Player of the Year do- I think Patrick Roberts probably won that as well- celebrated keeping the score down to just two.

No sign of a goat, which probably explains the function of the fat fellow.

As you are no doubt aware, Celtic moved to within ninety minutes and stoppage time of a clean sweep of the domestic honours. Still undefeated, and still motivated.

Even including fixtures against the original Rangers, its difficult to remember a more comprehensive victory than the one on Sunday, as the men in hoops showed that the gap between the two sides is much bigger than anyone in blue would care to admit.

Though to be fair, just two things, a complete upgrade in playing staff and a new manager at Ibrox could change that, there’s no sign of that happening any time soon.

It took just ten minutes for Calum MacGregor to pass the ball beyond Wes Foderingham, and although we had to wait for a Scott Sinclair second half penalty to double the lead, Celtic never had to really raise their game as they were already at a level that was way above anything “rangers ” could cope with.

It finished 2-0, although it could have easily been more.

It was disappointing to see Moussa Dembele pull up with a hamstring probem, but when you’ve got Leigh Griffiths ready to fill in, there’s little need to worry.

Apart from that, I think its safe to say that “rangers ” will be more worried about next weekends league game than Celtic.

Willie Collum, the referee, didn’t turn up for “rangers ” either, and as he was the man expected to be their main playmaker, they were always going to struggle, especially when he did the unthinkable and booked an Ibrox player early on.

He relented a little later by not sending anyone off-Beerman and Halliday should have walked, and possibly even Tavernier after the penalty-but that penalty award, although the offence was blatant, means he’s unlikely to be offere a new deal at the club in the summer.

Patrick Roberts, now entering the last few weeks of his loan deal, looks set to rejoin Manchester City, and may not even feature in the Cup final as he could be called away on England under 21 duty.

More worryingly, his buddy Keiran Terney seems to be hinting that the Englishman isn;t going to go for a permanent move to Glasgow..

“He has been brilliant for us and you saw what he brought to the game on Sunday,”

“He is a good team-mate and a good mate of mine but I think you have to trust him to do what he is best for his career.

“That is something that he needs to decide for himself. Obviously I would love it if he stayed on here but that is really anything to do with me. He needs to make that decision himself but he has had a really successful loan spell here and I know how much he has enjoyed it.

“I think you can see why he has that price tag around his neck at such a young age. His technique and his movement is excellent and he has contributed so much this season. I don’t know what will happen next because that is up to Patrick and to the club but hopefully there will be a few more afternoons like Sunday’s to come.”

Roberts himself has said on Twitter that “if I am to leave, a treble would be the perfect way to sign off ”

Well, at least he said “if “…

Manager Brendan rodgers seems pleased, but isn’t getting too carried away. He’s been noted in the past for some strange sayings, and post match he’s come out with another one.

Never get too carried away in this game. I’ll repeat it, a slap on the back is only six inches from a slap on the arse.

Before the game on sunday, the youth cup final takes place.

Well, a clean sweep isn’t a clean sweep without the Youth Cup, so if you can get along then please do so.

If you can’t, its being streamed live…

Hampden has been busy of late, which perhaps explains why one poor chap was unable to find an empty toilet on sunday, and appeared to disgrace himself..

although he may have been miffed at someone reminding him of the score…

At least, thats what I think is happening here.

And it seems that even a former manager has now lost faith in his favourites…

Yet they were so confident beforehand…

Er, no thanks..thats probably not even legal.

Ah, legal…

As you know, especially if you’ve been following James doleman on twitter, the trial of Craig whyte is ongoing in Glasgow.

As you also know, there have been some doubts as to the validity of old Rangers being granted a licence to play in Europe in 2011.

In court, however, there seems to be a little bit of a discrepancy between what the SFA/Rangers told the world about the tax bill of £2.8m.

Previously, Stewart Regan had said this… regarding the unpaid tax bill…

“It’s our understanding that the requisitioners accept that there are no issues with the granting of the license to Rangers. Where they do have an issue is in what’s called the monitoring period, immediately after the granting of the license to Rangers. Our position on that monitoring period is that we have fully complied with all of the UEFA regulations and requirements during that period.

Oops…

Mr McIntyre says in Jan/Feb 2011 , Rangers owed £2.8m to Inland Revenue.

McIntyre agrees club also owed £2.8m to HMRC due to “trusts being set up”

Had Regan followed all the rules, then the overdue payable would have been spotted and therefore Rangers would not have had a licence.

I’m quite sure even as we speak the mainstream media are beating a path to his door to demand an explanantion.

His position at the SFA is now visibly untenable.

Image result for just go

By now, he must have realised we’re not letting this go, and deep down he knows exactly whats happened. He needs to come clean and then resign with what little integrity he has left.

Now, I wonder if anyone can explain this fetching little outfit…

Really interesting stats, although I don’t understand it all!

Clearly shows how good a player Boyata is and why he’s Bren’s number 1 pick in central defence.

Also, Jozo’s relatively poor stats shows why Bren remains unconvinced by him and the mystifying praise from fans not based on reality!

Thanks. Sorry I didn’t make some of it clear enough it is not my intention to wrap this all up in technical gobbledygook! Let me know what I can clarify.

Boyata has done really well this seAson see http://celticbynumberscom.ipage.com/deeds-of-boyata/

Simunovic is a real good player so not sure how I gave the impression he was unconvincing. I am trying to keep the match summaries short there is a lot more I could show but fear people will get bored. Thanks for the feedback and always looking to improve the presentation and content so suggestions welcome. HH

2006 RFC looking for a buyer, nobody interested.
Converted to the World changed in 2008 when the bigot Masterton at HBOS stopped funding Murray. Lloyds had taken them over and wanted its cash back, some £18 mill.
Findley, Murray never PERSONALLY had shares in RFC.
Trial confirms that RFC. had a tax bill of £2.8 mill. when they were given a EUFA licence.
When Smith left the club, (someone) would be owed hundreds of thousands of pounds, if he did NOT get the job.

What team would others like to see Celtic go with on Saturday?
I’m vexed between wanting to pish all over them(again) or protect our assets before the cup final.
Dembele if missing is enough imo!
Going unbeaten isn’t that big a deal (for me) especially if there is a risk of losing main players before the cup final.
The league cup is in the cabinet, the League Title is in the cabinet, the Scottish cup must take precedence now.

Also I think it’s better to keep the players going,if he starts changing it now I think it sends out the wrong message to the players. Let’s keep going,we have plenty in reserve to cope with the cup final, should anything serious happen.

It’s a tough one Monti, I wouldn’t like them to take our unbeaten season from us, but what is the date for our first qualifier? If we are now definitely playing until 27th, then some players are on International duty, when will the players return, about 20th June?
So I hope there’s some rotation over the next five league games to rest some tired bodies, give Sinclair a break and play James and Patrick? Let’s see what Eboue can do in the Scott Brown role, although I imagine Lustig will need to be captain so Gamboa may not get a look. Maybe seem keeper and back four as Sunday, with Eboue, Armstrong and McGregor, Griff, Paddy and James. Of that team most people have been out the team at some stage this season so rest may not be as important.

Sadly Bob there won’t get enough tickets for the supporters to go round.
Aberdeen will demand a 50/50 split which they have every right to do.

I really hope that Paddy Roberts comes back to the Tic but if he does not, then, he will leave us with the memory of a great player and Celtic man.
Looking at his skills and his technical ability, I could see him fitting in at Barca. an awful lot of clubs down south would relish his signature.
We may think that loanees do not have much to offer, but it is just great that it gives the player, game time and we receive the benefits of their skill and ability while they are with us, a common sense approach to player development, mair of the same please, especially a two year loan.

Roberts is only in the English U20 team, which is mad, as any decent player in the U21s and there’s a clamour to get them in the full squad.

Perhaps they’ve got another golden generation that they want to bring through altogether.

Heated Driveway Productions has had little to do since St Brendan’s Voyage begun so time for him to step up and prove he runs Scottish Football by winning Scott Brown’s appeal.

If not and after his failures to land players in January he’s a busted flush and the millions wasted on him could be better spent.

For Saturday I think I go with keep the momentum going we already have had our foot of the gas since the League was in the bag and BR ain’t happy about it.
Now here’s a thing, could Sevoc have wanted a player off on Sunday? Easier to use the 10 men excuse given Celtic were bound to win.
Also I watched the Barce Madrid game after I got back from Hamden. The Barce keeper seemed to keep giving one of his defenders the ball in positions similar to Gordon/ Boyara such as at the left corner flag or just outside the penalty area and he was expected to deal with it. It may not be the keeper and defender who are the issue but it is the movement of the midfield and strikers because there always seemed to be someone available however much the Real players tried to close them down. Maybe Brendan wants better movement from other players than the ones we notice.

mike
Reply to  BJF

You make a good point BJF (Big James Forrest) Broony sometimes goes back to pick up the ball from Gordon, but it will depend on what Brendan’s instructions are, perhaps he wants in certain games the mid field further up the park, to press further up the park.

Yes he has confirmed it in court, Murray and the RFC had no choice, since 2005 they were trying to sell the mankies, Whyte was the only game in town. Lloyds Bank insisted that they sell to Whyte or they would “close it down”.
Its ironic that it took the financial crash for Lloyds to take over HBOS and expose that bunch of pricks that was running HBOS to first expose the financial malpractice of HBOS and then to clear out its financial doping by Masterton and others. If I remember correctly, Masterton gave Dunfermilne f.c. some millions of pounds for his take over of that club and a pay back period of some 35 years, good to himself was that prick, he subsequently went bankrupt. Poetic justice.
