Stan Laurel is allowed to take his half first. He proceeds to drink the whole glass. “What happened?” cries a shocked Ollie .”My half was on the bottom” is the classic reply from Stan.

Thats how much Rangers were part of this contest… the comic punchline.

Heres the ratings on a wonderful showing on a glorious day:

De Vries – 7

Caught under the ball with Millers looping header for their eventual goal but didnt have much chance due to his full backs errors allowing Taverniers cross from the left over to Miller on a deserted Lustig right. De Vries did make a good save from Waghorn at the death but really didnt have that many ( or any) other attacks to foil.

The new keeper was always happy taking the ball to feet and kick outs and passes were good all day. We will see a lot more of the sweeper keeper outlet as the season goes on. Its the future role of the goalkeeper so good to see we are on board before we are deep into the season.

Tierney – 7

Made the 5th goal with a really good overlap and developing a relationship with Sinclair. Should have prevented Taveniers cross for Miller to send across goal but was probably still caught up in the 2nd goal excitement like the rest of us. Didnt let up all day and had some lovely interactions while keeping it solid when needed. Easy to forget the left back superstar is still only a child given we just automatically assume “He’ll be fine”. How lucky we are indeed.

Toure – 7

Actually annoyed me for about 20 minutes because “big” Toure was losing header contests with the Rangers forward / thug/ actor/fandan Joe Garner. Sure enough though, Toure soon enough got his calm act together and was making those perfectly timed tackles and being the ultimate General to all around him as Rangers tried to muster up any hint of a huff or a puff. Toure is forming a good relationship with Erik and while once again we failed to keep a clean sheet, we can forgive and forget on this occasion.

Erik -7

Solid as a Viking longboat and absolutely loves winning with the Hoops. When Dembele scored his 3rd, Erik was literally bouncing towards him in the fashion of a celebrating fan. Keeps it simple which is not as easy as it sounds and doesnt appear to have any nerves regardless of the occasion. Laughed it off when the idiot Garner actually tried to headbutt his kneecap. A Future captain contender with Tierney.

Lustig – 8

Played as well as the rest of the defence and had the ying/yang balance of making the 4th goal with a great cross while contributing to their goal by not ensuring enough cover on the right side of defence when he got drawn out of position. Another classy performance but Lustig gets the extra point for 2 reasons:

First he had to deal with Garners piss poor antics – Garner elbowed Lustig in ribs and then after Lustig said “4th official, this giys a choob”, Garner then tried to orchestrate a sending off “retaliation” scene by walking backwards into Lustig and then hitting the deck. A bemused Lustig just shrugged with a classy total indifference and Collum simply told Garner to get up.

The other reason for the extra point?

The greatest Goal celebration of all time at Celtic Park.
Oh yes!

You can forget Henriks Tongue!
You can forget Robbie Keanes somersaults!
When Dembele scored the 2nd goal…what did Mikel Lustig do?

He ran passed Joey Barton and friends wearing a burst green and white beach ball on his head!

Oh yes he did!

Mikel Lustig..Celtic Comedy Genius!

Bitton – 7

What a pass for the 2nd goal. Took booking when taking the driving Kranjcar( I know!) down before he hit the Celtic defenders but then stayed classy throughout desite attempts to bully him. The sideways passes from Bitton do frustrate now and again but again Nir kept everything and everyone calm and controlled which is exactly what was needed in such a match.

Broony – 8

Stared Joey in the eyes at the handshake,,Joey looked at the floor. It was Game over before it had begun. Drove Celtic forward and was always in amongst it when needed. Took a well deserved break with Brendan motioning “Down” with 15 mins to go. Scott then had the slowest walk off in Scotttish Football History, milking it brilliantly. Broonys post match interview was hilarious with “Result speaks for itself” and “Men vs Boys” quotes and when asked if he had a word or two with Joey at the 2nd goal “Yes, I was just checking that he was okay”. Thats what we need from our Captain. Know your place Joey.

Sinclair – 8

That’s 5 in a row. 5. For a guy who drifts in and out of a game, what a return. Sinclair really comes onto a game a the longer the game progresses and is proving a great purchase. Working well with Tierney and Dembele and started the party with a great cross for goal from a corner that he generated from a shot on goal saved by Fotheringhams face. Took his goal with ease with the Rangers keeper still wondering how he found that near post without looking. Then helped make the 5th goal too by playing in Tierney for the cross to Armstrong. Marvellous.

Forrest – 7

Wee James tormented “The Grass” by keeping his guessing if he was going outside or inside. Sent in a few balls that could have been goal chances and will be pleased with his effort once again. Kept pushing forward and stretching the Rangers defence and kept hounding their midfield and forwards when needed. Got a good round of applause when heading off for Roberts.

Rogic – 8

What a week for our Twinkle Toed Tom. Played during the week for Australia then a long haul flight back and then simply played with Niko and Joey on Saturday. A brilliant effort and at one point did a double pirouette to beat 4 Rangers players. The first half basically ended up with a knackered Niko trying to kick lumps out of him in frustration but of course never coming close. While everyone thought the battle would be Broony and Barton, Rogic quietly stepped up and ran the game in the first half. Rogic’s progression is very impressive under Rodgers. It seemed harsh to be replaced by Armstrong but given his travels and the impact of Armstrong that soon turned out to be another master stroke from our Brendan,

Dembele -10 + 3 if possible!

The Perfect hat trick – from a new signing who is only 20 years old. Let that sink in for a second.

A truly phenomenal centre forward performance and no wonder Zinedine Zidane praised Celtic for landing this potential superstar. The superstar talk is not hype or shype ( Let it go – Ed). Everything Dembele does on the pitch is impressive: From hold up play, to bringing in midfield with knock downs, to driving runs, to playing inch perfect ly weighted passes through two defenders for Celtic midfield, making defenders look extremely foolish and course those calm deadly finishes. The bhoy is pure class.

The goals were all special. A bullet header to an empty post, then a brilliant run before calmly turning the JCB that is Senderos inside out, finished off with a Jamesie Forrest style outside of the boot strike passed Fotheringham.

The 3rd goal was my favourite though. The build up is fantastic but then came the finish. The ball is floated over Bartons head by Lustig and knowing the keeper will soon be coming, Dembele calmly brings the ball down and forward with his right boot perfectly for him to then immediately strike home into the corner with his left. It was Mark Hughesque for the older readers!

The celebration was marvellous too and after the first Hat-Trick by a Celt in a League game against a team from Ibrox in 50 years, Moussa was happy to take the booking for jumping in the crowd.

Subs

Armstrong – 7

Just wow! Best subs performance since David Fairclough ( Enough with the old crap – Ed). Armstrong came on when Rangers were having a good spell in the game and immediately the game was over as far as they were concerned. Armstrong picked up the torch that Rogic had carried in the first half and drove his team forward to victory. He was all over the pitch and had a hand in all the second half goals culminating in his calm finish in the 92nd minute for goal number 5. Will do his confidence a power of good and on this showing, the future may still be open to Armstrong filling Broonys boots one day,

McGregor – 6

Brought on the give the team energy and someone who could hold onto the ball as the Rangers players got more and more desperate and did his job very well. Always available and gave the team that extra oomph that was needed to drive the final nails into the coffin.

Roberts – 6

Came on for James Forrest and was a bit disappointing in truth, something Roberts also thought in post match interviews. Patrick tried his best but is clearly still finding his feet after the recent injury. A Mixed bag saw him fail to get passed Grass Wallace or Barrie McKay on a few occasions but he did have a good few runs across goal with one decent shout for a penalty waved away by Collum. The form will return soon enough so Patrick shouldn’t let the head go down.

Manager – 9

Marvellous management. Said his team were well prepared and they sure were. No Leigh Griffiths?..No panic!…just get the ball from Rangers and attack…talk about a simple game. I always like to see how Managers react during the bad times in a game and Brendan continues to impress with his use of subs at the right time. The introduction of Armstrong killed off Rangers faint chances of a comeback in the second half and once again a substitute scores for Celtic this season.

Afterwards Rodgers highlighted how Saturday was the 5th anniversary of his fathers passing as well as 31 years since big Jocks and he had that in mind for the game. You could listen to his appreciation all day but this snippet sums it up.

Fans – 9

Great singing and piss taking all day. Celtic fans never let up and the sight of Rod Steward singing “Doing the Huddle” was a youtube delight.

Stories allege that there may have been some clowns with inflatables dummies- no doubt, crassly I grant you, trying to denote a dead club and not anything to do with Kris Boyds tragedy or World Suicide Awareness Day, regardless of what the Media or any bandwagon jumping publicity hungry Scottish football websites try and allude to.

I doubt any Celtic fan holds any animosity towards Kris Boyd..the guy scored 1 goal against us for God sake whilst playing for Rangers.
