{"id":9341,"date":"2016-07-06T08:26:22","date_gmt":"2016-07-06T07:26:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/etims.net\/?p=9341"},"modified":"2016-07-06T08:26:22","modified_gmt":"2016-07-06T07:26:22","slug":"celtic-diary-wednesday-july-6-rodgers-laying-down-the-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/etims.net\/?p=9341","title":{"rendered":"Celtic Diary Wednesday July 6: Rodgers Laying Down The Law"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the definitive acts, or rather failure to act, of Ronny Deila&#8217;s regime was his failure to stamp his authority on the club from the moment he walked in the door.<\/p>\n<p>In allowing John Collins to be his number two, chosen from a list that we hear included Annie Lennox of the Eurythmics and politician George Galloway, Deila allowed the directors to retain control of who was in the team.<\/p>\n<p>And those in the team simply took the piss, from Scott Brown lounging in a semi coma after a night on the refreshments, to Kris Commons having a rant when he was substituted.<\/p>\n<p>There are countless other instances we have heard of, and all point to the then manager losing authority and them interest. \u00a0The Diary pointed out on numerous occasions during his reign that he must not let the tail wag the dog, and in the end that was what happened, and he lost his job, possibly down to player power, but certainly down to a lack of managerial power.<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s gone now, and his time at the club is over.<\/p>\n<p>Brendan Rodgers, an experienced gaffer who likes his players to call him gaffer and treat him like one is making no such mistake.<\/p>\n<p>There was a little snippet i picked up on whilst reading the Huddleboard forum, where all the loonies go to talk to each other, that I found interesting.<\/p>\n<p>It came from Paul the Tim , who stalks the squad on a regular basis and hears and sees things that most of us don&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>In a thread which centred around a story that Craig Gordon had cut short an interview when the manager wanted to see everyone, Paul noted that he had seen a memeber of the staff also run to the managers call, although the staff guy shouted &#8220;two minutes , gaffer&#8221; to make sure the boss knew he had heard him, and also to explain he was on his way.<\/p>\n<p>The point here, according to Paul, is that this would not have happened under Deila, and we would tend to agree, from the tales we have heard.<\/p>\n<p>The huddleboard thread also mentions -or corroborates- wee tales of players openly flouting Deilas dietary regime, eating cheeseburgers and such like in front of him, but lets be honest, we are fully aware that Ronny chucked it after the ajax game, and probably didn&#8217;t give a toss by then.<\/p>\n<p>The players, however, are a different matter.<\/p>\n<p>They wear the jersey and play for the fans, who indirectly or directly, are the reason they are so well paid.<\/p>\n<p>More than that, they are playing for a cause, not a club, and if they want to fall out behind the scenes thats up to them, but anything less than one hundred per cent on the park is inexcusable.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe that is a wee pointer as to the conversation that Rodgers had with captain Scott Brown in London, because as a traditional manager the Irishman would have simply used Brown to convey the message to the players that whatever little cliques were working behind Deila&#8217;s back, it wasnt going to happen on his watch.<\/p>\n<p>All of this may seem a bit irrelevant now Ronny&#8217;s away, but \u00a0it also seems to be playing a part in the current buying and selling drive.<\/p>\n<p>Kris Commons is idolised and despised in equal measures by Celtic supporters. Okay, maybe despised is too strong a word, but when you look at the abuse, disgracefully handed out by &#8220;tims &#8221; on twitter to the player, and unforgivably , to his wife\/life partner\/missus , you wonder why anyone would want to play for Celtic at any price.<\/p>\n<p>Lisa Hague does a fair bit of work for Celtic charities, and her involvment in that scene may well have played a major part in commons signing a second contract at the club, which if I recall correctly was what everyone wanted.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the family have become a target for the haters. Whether or not that is down to his rant last year is the question.<\/p>\n<p>Is Rodgers breaking up the clique ? Emilio is a low maintenance player who always gives his best for the club. Like everyone else he has bad ganes, and like everyone else he has good games.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>But he never complains.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>A contract for him would send out a message to the others, and based on the service he has given the club, he s=deserves it, even f he is only going to be back up and with the defence currently lacking in experience, maybe the manager feels he cannot afford to let him go.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The lack of experience may be dealt with by bringing in kolo toure, the vastly experienced defender available on a free from Liverpool.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Talk has reached fever pitch that his arrival will be announced in the next day or two.<\/div>\n<div>The manager isn&#8217;t hanging about.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>With players such as Ambrose, Johansen and Biton linked with moves away, perhaps the money that comes in will be spent on someone who has already had talks with Rodgers while he&#8217;s on international duty in France&#8230;..<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00a314m isn&#8217;t a lot of money to spend when you are drawing in around \u00a311m of it&#8230;..<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>And with three wages removed and turned into one, then it suddenly becomes a little more possible than first believed, and if true, then it really is a statement of intent from Rodgers.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Now, if that is making you just a little bit excited, its nothing to what the players are feeling. At least according to happy chappy Erik Sviatchenko&#8230;<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>\u00a0<em>\u201cIt\u2019s really exciting. It\u2019s a new way of coaching I haven\u2019t been used to but it\u2019s really something I like and I\u2019m looking forward to getting to know it even better. It\u2019s how I want to play football and it\u2019s just about getting that fitness so we can play that way.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIt\u2019s more disciplined and much more aggressive and higher in the pitch and it\u2019s all about the individual skills as well.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe manager talks about the players needing to flourish and do their thing in the last third, while the defensive players have their focus on getting the ball as quickly as possible.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cBut he speaks a lot about the team as we need to stick together when we have a lot of games. All we want is to win games and go to the Champions League and that\u2019s the main goal now.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIt\u2019s a bit different to what it is in Glasgow so it\u2019s been nice to here and enjoy the nice weather, but we are here for football reasons,\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe have been training twice a day but it\u2019s still been fun. There have been a variation of different drills in training, so even though you are getting tired you still think it\u2019s fun and that\u2019s the way football is meant to be.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe are getting more and more confident with the way we need to play and it\u2019s all about getting those important games. #252525;\">Not only do they wear Green and white, there are other similarities&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Mind you, there are similarities with another Glasgow club as well&#8230;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p style=\"color: #252525;\"><em>Originally, Olimpija Ljubljana claimed to be a new club that was formed on 2 March 2005, under the name Be\u017eigrad.<sup id=\"cite_ref-snportal2013durs_3-7\" class=\"reference\"><a style=\"color: #0b0080;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/NK_Olimpija_Ljubljana_(2005)#cite_note-snportal2013durs-3\">[3]<\/a><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-siol22122013oli_12-3\" class=\"reference\"><a style=\"color: #252525;\">Speaking of the other Glasgow club, how about this, thought by some to be a parody, from website &#8220;Ibrox Noise &#8220;, which is presumably the sound of the roof falling in&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #252525;\"><em><span style=\"color: #333333;\">I don\u2019t know about you \u2013 but I want to know what you really think about a giant club, the size and stature of Rangers, being dragged down to such a low financial state, that we cannot afford to pay any real transfer fee for any player still attached to a club. What a catastrophic position to be in when your team is attempting to win a league title, when other teams have had years experience of competing at a higher standard of players.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><br style=\"color: #333333;\" \/><br style=\"color: #333333;\" \/><em><span style=\"color: #333333;\">Rangers have been reduced to scrounging around, looking for the best free transfer players currently on the market, that are available to sign right away. This will enable us to bed them in for the start of the new Premiership season, after a four-year sabbatical, forced on us by the SPL clubs in 2012. We can use their services to play for our world record breaking team, without having to pay a transfer fee for any of them. In fairness, we have picked the best of them, to the great credit of our management team getting the homework right, and with their experience and perseverance paying off.<\/span><\/em><br style=\"color: #333333;\" \/><em><a style=\"color: #333333;\" name=\"more\"><\/a><\/em><br style=\"color: #333333;\" \/><em><span style=\"color: #333333;\">We do have three new young players all under 23, and Rangers do have to pay some compensation money, as part of the deal agreed for them signing. A \u00a3250,000 fee has been agreed with Liverpool for Jordan Rossiter who is only 19 years-old and is a current international player who has featured at every level for England since he was only 15. Roughly \u00a350,000 development fees have been paid to Accrington Stanley for Matt Crooks, our new 6\u2019 4\u201d, 22-year-old and also for Josh Windass, who comes very highly recommended as an exciting, attacking scoring midfield player, by Mark Warburton.<\/span><\/em><br style=\"color: #333333;\" \/><br style=\"color: #333333;\" \/><em><span style=\"color: #333333;\">I find the present situation a little embarrassing, and I feel very sorry for such a great management team, having to try and wrestle the league from Celtic\u2019s clutches, with both hands tied behind their backs. In saying that, they have worked wonders with players of the calibre of Joey Barton, Niko Kranjcar, Clint Hill, Lee Hodson and Matt Gilks \u2013 so far, with \u2018one or two irons still in the fire\u2019 for another defender and striker!\u00a0<\/span><\/em><br style=\"color: #333333;\" \/><br style=\"color: #333333;\" \/><em><span style=\"color: #333333;\">I also believe that at long last, we have a board that we can trust to run the club properly now. Even if they have to run it frugally for the time being, it is so much better than spending money we obviously don\u2019t have. Once we are on an even keel, Dave King will be in a much better position, if he gets help from others, to invest some more money in the best club in the world \u2013 especially with all the best supporters! We have haemorrhaged millions since 2012, and it will take something drastic to eliminate the problem and hopefully, I have devised an idea to rid us of the bad debt that we have accrued in the process of being demoted to the lowly Third Division of Scottish football \u2013 shame on the Scottish Government for not stepping in, to help save the whole of Scottish football. The Spanish Government would not have let Real Madrid or Barcelona suffer the same fate!<\/span><\/em><br style=\"color: #333333;\" \/><br style=\"color: #333333;\" \/><em><span style=\"color: #333333;\">What I am strongly suggesting has never to my knowledge, been done before, but I feel for the long-term benefit of all the Rangers, \u201cWe are the people\u201d supporters, and indeed our proud club \u2013 can we be allowed to put our own money (cash\/cheques and bank transfers), into a specific Rangers F.C. bank account, called the \u201cRangers Transfer Fund\u201d, to enable us to help pay for future signings and their wages? It would be an account that would very strictly be used for transfer fees and the particular signed players\u2019 wages ONLY.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><br style=\"color: #333333;\" \/><br style=\"color: #333333;\" \/><em><span style=\"color: #333333;\">We have fans around the world who could easily get involved, and we also have a load of wealthy fans, who I am sure would be willing to help us out, in our time of need. I will be happy to contribute money to the fund, and I am sure that every fan would appreciate the opportunity to help in any way they can. Even the poorer Rangers fans could help by fund-raising in their communities, just to help the team that they have always cared for, so dearly in their hearts. We are the Rangers Family and it is time to stump up and do what we can, but please remember, you can only give what you can afford. We also have all the Rangers clubs, Orange Halls and Masonic Lodges to help eradicate this financial burden, by using their premises to arrange fund-raising events, with all the proceeds going into the, \u201cRangers Transfer Fund\u201d account. However a spokesperson for the charity said: \u00a0&#8220;Help for Heroes has not authorised the use of its logo to The Lion Brand and as such we are looking to speak to them as a matter of urgency.&#8221; The charity also said it could not confirm if any money from the sale of the shirts had ever reached them.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Rangers fans have long been unhappy with the retail agreement between them and Mike Ashley&#8217;s Sports Direct organisation with many calling for a boycott of official merchandise until a better deal can be secured.
