And the new Celtic boss will meet supporters at 6pm at the stadium following his media conference.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>The Irishman becomes the club\u2019s 18th manager in its long and illustrious history, and is one that has excited Celtic fans. And as a lifelong Celtic supporter himself, it\u2019s a dream come true for the 43-year-old.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Speaking after his appointment was announced on Friday afternoon, Brendan Rodgers said: &#8220;I will give my new role everything I have and do all I can to bring our supporters exciting, entertaining and winning football.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>&#8220;The Club has been in magnificent shape in recent years and has collected silverware regularly during this time. My objective now, of course, is to continue this work, to keep us at the top and again make our mark in Europe.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>&#8220;I know what a magnificent support Celtic enjoys and I can promise our fans one thing &#8211; that I will be doing everything I can to give you a team that you can be proud of and a team that delivers.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>&#8220;I can&#8217;t wait to be in Paradise with our team and our fans as we all get to work.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Paradise is the place to be today as Brendan Rodgers begins his reign as Celtic manager, and he will meet supporters at 6pm. There will be music on The Celtic Way from 4.30pm on what is sure to be a special day of celebration. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">We need a song, and this one, shamelessly stolen from Hibernian fans, and adapted a wee bit by Celtic rock and roars on twitter, is as good as any;<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/CjFpSTxWUAEICLE.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Not that the main domestic challenge will come from Ibrox, nowhere near it in fact, but there does sem to be a little bit of competition as the Level 5 spinmasters attempt to keep their paymasters on the back pages.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">So much so, in fact, that during tonights press conference , whilst paying due respect to the Warburton Wunderteam, Rodgers must lay down the law with journalists who attempt to steer the conversation down Kinning Park way.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0All questions regarding the Ibrox club must be banned.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Any mention of them by a reporter , or any attempt to get Rodgers to comment on the aftermath of the Scottish cup final should see the reporter-and newspaper-concerned removed from the proceedings.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">He&#8217;s there to talk about Celtic, his plans for Celtic, and possibly that accusation about a transgender partner, which if nothing else is intriguing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Alright, not the transgender thing. It&#8217;s silly.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Captain Scott Brown is looking forward to what he calls a fresh start, and he echos the thoughts of supporters in this, who have picked up on a sense of anticipation not seen since the arrival of Martin O&#8217;Neill.<\/p>\n<div class=\"gmail_quote\"><em>\u201c\u2018I was in London when I heard and it\u2019s great news. The lads are in a group chat and we speak quite a lot and we are all delighted with Brendan coming in.<\/em><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_quote\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_quote\"><em>\u201cIt will be a fresh start for everyone and everyone will have to prove their worth. It\u2019s definitely exciting.<\/em><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_quote\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div class=\"gmail_quote\"><em>\u201cThe players he will attract will be huge and everyone seemed to love his coaching at Liverpool and Swansea, so it will be great for us to learn off him, as well.<\/em><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><em>\u201cHe has done really well with his previous clubs, almost winning the league at Liverpool, and he has Champions League experience. Hopefully, he comes here and we can continue to win leagues and cups and get into the Champions League.<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>\u201cPeople say we can\u2019t afford the top players now, but we have just gone and got a top manager. He knows about the club which will help as he will understand what coming to a huge club with a big reputation is all about.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\u00a0<em>\u201cI did come across him at Swansea when we played down there in a friendly and they were flying at the time.<\/em><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><em>\u201cThey played attacking, non-stop football which was good to watch and I\u2019m sure the Swansea and Liverpool fans felt that, as well, and here\u2019s hoping our fans will feel like that.<\/em><em>\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><em>One of the reasons I came to Celtic was the fact there was a huge manager in charge who had done well down in England in Gordon Strachan. Now we have another huge manager who has done well down south and he will bring that enthusiasm and experience along with his style of play.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><em>\u201cEveryone knows that Celtic is a high-pressure job and all the other things comes with it, but he will know what that\u2019s all about, having worked in a similar situation in Liverpool with that local rivalry with Everton, so that will be important for him.\u201d \u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">On loan striker Anthony Stokes seems a little revitalised by the move. After his cup winning performance against &#8220;rangers &#8220;, he feels he has staked a claim to be the partner to Leigh Griffiths next season, and although you&#8217;d kind of hope celtic were aiming a little higher, he maybe does have a point;<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>\u201c<em>I have said since day one that I wanted to go back, I would love to play with Griff. The first season that Leigh and I played together we scored a barrowload. He came in for five or six months and he is someone that I really respect as a footballer.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cHe is one of the best finishers that I have ever played with and I think we have showed already that we can link up well when we are out there together. He scored 40 goals this season \u2013 we could do a fair bit of damage with two of us up there.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI think over two or three seasons if I am playing regularly then I will score 20 or above. If you are a striker at Celtic then that is the standard that you should be at and if you are going to play regularly up front for Celtic then you have to score at least 20 goals over the course of the season and I would always fancy myself to do that.<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"macro-block carousel related-articles\">\n<p><em>\u201cI haven\u2019t spoken to the club but to be fair they knew where I was with a few big games on the horizon for me at Hibs but I would hope that over the course of this coming week that I might have some sort of correspondence from them,\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"advert-container tiny\">\n<div id=\"DFP_in_article_2\" style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/154725070\/www.eveningtimes.co.uk\/sport_2__container__\" style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"><em><iframe id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/154725070\/www.eveningtimes.co.uk\/sport_2\" style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\" title=\"3rd party ad content\" name=\"google_ads_iframe_\/154725070\/www.eveningtimes.co.uk\/sport_2\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\u201cI haven\u2019t worked with Brendan or met him. I haven\u2019t crossed paths with him in my career at all but I obviously know of him and I have to say that I thought it was a really great appointment from Celtic. He has a great reputation from playing attractive football and setting his stall out to go and win games.<\/em><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>\u201cOne of the reasons I wanted to go out on loan was to get fit, play games and be as sharp as I possibly could be. I feel that I am there now and hopefully if I get the chance to go back then I get the opportunity to show that. It is a blank canvas for everyone when a new manager comes in and it is a chance to go and stake a claim for a place in the team.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI would love to be a part of it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI feel good. I am obviously happy at the minute, given what happened at the weekend. It was a big thing for me to help Hibs to win the Scottish Cup and it will live with me for the rest of my life. But we will see what happens next now.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cBrendan Rodgers\u2019 appointment says it all. I am sure there were other candidates but he is the best that they could have got. It sets your stall out. It gives players something to think about, that\u2019s for sure. \u201c \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>No harm in keeping him as back up, at least. but he&#8217;ll have to move up a gear if he wants to be a regular.<\/p>\n<p>And anyway, how do you tell Zlatan he&#8217;s not getting a guaranteed start ?<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s going to be tough enough telling Steven Gerrard he&#8217;s only going to be used sparingly, but then again, his new role as player\/ assistant manager might take some of the sting out of that.<\/p>\n<p>Thats if you believe Fox Sports.<\/p>\n<p>The football League World claims that Robert Snodgrass could be winging his way north as well, which would mean that Celtic may just about have enough cover in midfield, for about the next ten years by my reckoning, with Liam Henderson on his way back after his European tour.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, a number of Celtic players will leave, though its hard to say which ones. there will be as much speculation on that as there is on who will come in, but surely Rodgers will want to take some time and look at what he already has before showing anyone the door ?<\/p>\n<p>That would make sense, and it ties in with the news that players will be reporting back early for pre season training on June 20, giving the new boss plenty of time to get ready for the European campaign.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, I guess we should all just go with the flow&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Elsehwere, and it pains me to mention this on a day when Celtic are stepping forward into a new era, , but I feel it should not pass without comment, the circling of the wagons to avoid paying attention to the real problem at ibrox, whatever it may be, began in spectacular fashion over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>After Hibernian won the cup in dramatic fashion, the Ibrox support proved that they are ore than capable of carrying on where the original Ibrox club&#8217;s support left off.<\/p>\n<p>This gave their PR department a wonderful opportunity to recreate the old &#8220;everyone hates us 2 line, and their responses -notably the one last night-can only be described as bizarre.<\/p>\n<p>Or inflammatory.<\/p>\n<p>Or downright dangerous. you know, the sort of thing that the Offensive Behaviour Act was really brought in to deal with.<\/p>\n<p>The Ibrox heirarchy seemed a little upset by the result<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/CjH1jGoXAAAASiW.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>and this is before someone really drives the nails in&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.irishtimes.com\/polopoly_fs\/1.2459115.1449605329!\/image\/image.jpg_gen\/derivatives\/box_620_330\/image.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Ibrox club reacted in good spirit to their defeat, congratulating the winners&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/CjF5vAzWkAE8zU0.jpg:large\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Everyone appeared to be in the firing line, including nicola Sturgeon, despite her visit to Lee Wallace, the &#8220;rangers &#8221; player brutally attacked on the pitch by armed Hibernian fans, who later went round to his house and flung his dug into a canal.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/CjFn5rzWEAIJ74k.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Record went into overdrive as it confirms it really isn&#8217;t a newspaper any more.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/CjHt3FBWgAAHfjo.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Incidentally, we have an exclusive picture of the attack on Wallace, and some of the other players-eleven in total according to Keith Jackson at the former newspaper \u00a0not seen previously;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/specials-images.forbesimg.com\/imageserve\/550707f1e4b095aa68c8452f\/0x600.jpg?fit=scale&amp;background=000000\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Oh aye, Keith Jackson.<\/p>\n<p>Fresh from his success as Sportswriter of the Year, he&#8217;s followed up with another piece that is sure to cement his position as the top hack in Scotland&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/CjHtOF1W0AAqWdR.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Except, of course Kenny Miller, who wasn&#8217;t attacked. His wife said so.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/CjF9ur_WEAAf9My.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And then there was this, again from the Record, this time the online version..<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Rangers legend Alex MacDonald: Hibs should be BOOTED out of Europe &#8230; just like we were after 1972 Cup Winners&#8217; Cup win \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.meme.am\/instances\/500x\/53599836.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The hysteria is beyond belief, or maybe it isn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>Faced with a new season at the highest level, a season for which they know they are woefully unequipped, both on the field and off it, there seems to be only one option for the Ibrox club.<\/p>\n<p>Blame everyone else.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, there are several things that should be addressed after the cup final, as there were a number of things that need to be dealt with.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/CjEC4mPXAAEecSh.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But more than that, much more than that, the Ibrox club need to get there wings clipped, by the law if possible, because this statement is little more than an incitement to riot, which is what they usually do to turn the hordes w=away from asking too many questions about what is going on behind the doors and up the marble staircase.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><em><strong style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Rangers finds it incomprehensible that no one, either from within the Scottish FA or Hibernian Football Club, has condemned Hibernian\u2019s supporters following the violent scenes at the end of yesterday\u2019s Scottish Cup final when Rangers players and members of our backroom staff were physically and verbally assaulted. We have not even had the courtesy of any contact whatsoever from Hibernian to ask after the wellbeing of those who were attacked by their club\u2019s supporters.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">Funnily enough, no-one from &#8220;rangers &#8221; has congratulated hibernian on their win. Manager Mark Warburton has disappeared off the face of the earth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><em>There must be a full independent investigation into the shameful scenes at Hampden. Rangers is also at a complete loss to understand why certain individuals have hastily attempted to gloss over the appalling events which unfolded at the end of Saturday\u2019s final.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">Yeah. So am I.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><em>No matter how many times Hibernian\u2019s chairman and Scottish FA vice-chairman, Rod Petrie, and certain other biased commentators wish to play down Saturday\u2019s mayhem and violence, the truth must not be distorted. What unfolded on Saturday cannot and must not be put down to exuberance. That is a complete insult to Rangers, our supporters, and those individuals who were intimidated and attacked.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">These ones ?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">The one who tried to abduct a child ?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/CjEgvaHXIAA2f7O.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">Or this one, kicking the head of a prone teenager ?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/CjFfhEeXIAAEqI7.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">Perhaps you mean this one, where a Hibs fan attempts to slide tackle a number of innocent &#8220;rangers &#8221; supporters \u00a0?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.thesun.co.uk\/aidemitlum\/archive\/02880\/SUNGLA_rangers_v_h_2880575a.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><em>It was clear to most of those who watched in horror that the Scottish FA\u2019s security procedures failed when Hibernian\u2019s fans went over the top in their thousands.\u00a0 It is to be hoped that all of Scottish football will share Rangers\u2019 disgust and any attempts to attach blame to our supporters for the disgraceful and violent behaviour, which led to our players and fans fearing for their safety, will not be accepted or tolerated by this Club.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">They look terrified\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.thesun.co.uk\/aidemitlum\/archive\/02881\/05_21232230_5bdb49_2881188a.jpg\" alt=\"Inline Image\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><em>We acknowledge that a tiny minority of Rangers fans also encroached on the pitch but only after having been faced with prolonged and severe provocation and in order to protect our players and officials who were being visibly attacked in front of them. Any club\u2019s supporters would have done the same. This distressing and deeply disturbing episode would never have happened had Hibs fans behaved properly but as they swarmed across the pitch it became immediately obvious that the security procedures were inadequate and had failed.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">Prolonged and severe ? It was less than a minute.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><em>These fans were allowed to rush, unchecked, towards Rangers supporters at the opposite end of the stadium \u2013 all the while goading and threatening them. This makes it preposterous to suggest Rangers fans were somehow to blame as some commentators appear anxious to do. This thuggish behaviour must be investigated and as many culprits as possible brought to book and formally charged. This is the second time in a year that Rangers fans have had to endure attacks by another club\u2019s supporters.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">Thuggish behaviour ? Well, they&#8217;d know all about that.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.thesun.co.uk\/aidemitlum\/archive\/00488\/riotmain_488741a.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><em>It must also be said that it was not at all helpful to see leading members of the Scottish Government, including the First Minister whose parish is Govan, passing comment on social media without any attempt to condemn the behaviour of Hibernian\u2019s fans. These failures are unbecoming of our elected representatives.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><em>Certain media outlets have also attempted to distort reality.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com\/736x\/45\/1b\/0a\/451b0aa11813cb27d320ef7e7747cd73.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><em> In the case of the BBC this is, of course, not news. BBC employees, in particular Stuart Cosgrove, believe Rod Petrie\u2019s comments to be \u2018balanced\u2019 and others speak of a \u2018minority\u2019 of Hibernian supporters. Another, Tom English, who was not even at the match, would prefer the authorities to focus on Rangers fans\u2019 reaction. We will not endure this insult.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">And there is the bit that should see them in court.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><em>So, let everyone be clear on one thing \u2013 Rangers demands that players, staff and fans be protected from the violence and hatred of supporters of other clubs. Rangers fully expects the Scottish FA and Police Scotland to take action to provide our people with a safe environment. When players are unable to accept medals at the end of a final because of fears for their safety and our supporters are alarmed and extremely concerned for the women and children among them, then surely every step must be taken to ensure that this is never repeated.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">Never repeated ? Most of what is in that statement never happened in the first place. Not one image of a &#8220;rangers &#8221; player being harmed. Yes, there were two examples of what could certainly be deemed threatening behaviour, and several instances where a charge of affray could be justified.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">There isn&#8217;t even so much of picture of a saliva sodden shirt.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">Mark Warburton hasn&#8217;t shown his face.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0);\">No wonder.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The police won&#8217;t be knocking on the doors at ibrox investigating the statement and its content, and quite possibly the intentions behind it. not yet anyway.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #022169;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">There&#8217;s another major investigation going on in Glasgow<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/CjC3C1yXAAAIqKY.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Andybhoy scooped a caption competition winners medal, but has so far refused to come out to collect it.
