It seems like every hour another edict is issued from Central Control telling the population what they can do, can&#8217;t do and can&#8217;t even think about doing.<\/p>\n<p>Somehow, a game of football has become an excuse for a state police to more or less impose martial law.<\/p>\n<p>Firstly, the police , astonishingly, from a legal point of view, will round up potential criminals who might commit a crime. Think about that for a moment&#8230;<\/p>\n<h1 class=\"articleHeadline web-font\" style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Wife-beating Old Firm fans to be rounded up by cops before<\/h1>\n<h1 class=\"articleHeadline web-font\" style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Sunday&#8217;s Celtic-Rangers clash.<\/h1>\n<p>Note the accompanying picture in the sun which shows just how serious domestic violence can be, especially if it breaks out into a form of country dancing.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.thesun.co.uk\/aidemitlum\/archive\/02799\/agbubu_2799446a.jpg\" alt=\"Police are clamping down on domestic abuse ahead of Old Firm Scottish Cup clash\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not trivialising the issue here, I&#8217;m pointing out that others by trying to seem serious are maybe sensationalising something which really shouldn&#8217;t be sensationalised.<\/p>\n<p><em>Detective Chief Inspector Sam McCluskey said investigators were trying to \u201ccreate breathing space for the victim\u201d before Sunday\u2019s match.<\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"teadPlaceholder\"><em>\u00a0The head of the national Domestic Abuse Task Force said: \u201cWhat we\u2019re trying to do is keep domestic abuse victims and their children safe.<\/em><\/div>\n<p><em>\u201cTo do that, rather than managing the risk by just going out to attend incidents, we are trying to remove the risk by removing the perpetrator.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Perpetrator? He isn&#8217;t a perpetrator until he&#8217;s actually \u00a0perpetrated.<\/p>\n<p>The word McCluskey is looking for is &#8220;internment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Of course victims, and potential victims of domestic abuse need to be protected, but if these perpetrators have indeed perpetrated , should they not be locked up already ? Or, if they are awaiting trial, be locked up already ?<\/p>\n<p>Sounds to me like the police have a better PR team than most, and are merely justifying the g=huge costs associated with policing football, and whereas the Westminster government has doctors firmly in their sights as an enemy of the state, Holyrood has decided that football fans are a much easier target.<\/p>\n<p>Then theres the clubs, who have little choice than to go along with another edict..<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"color: #000000;\">Police warn Celtic and Rangers &#8216;role models&#8217; to be on best behaviour ahead of Old Firm Scottish Cup semi-final<\/h1>\n<ul class=\"mol-bullets-with-font\" style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<li><strong>Rangers and Celtic clash in Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden on Sunday<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Players have been warned about their conduct by police ahead of the game<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Police operation will involve 450 officers before and after Sunday&#8217;s clash<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Chief Superintendent Brian McInulty has reminded players of their duties\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\nAt this point, I&#8217;d like to take a moment to remind Chief Superintendent McInulty of his duties&#8230;and those of his stormtroopers.. from their own website, of&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<header>\n<h1 id=\"ctl00_ctl00_cphMasterContent_cphChildContent_acmTitle\" style=\"font-weight: 500; color: inherit;\">The Role of a Police Constable<\/h1>\n<\/header>\n<div id=\"ctl00_ctl00_cphMasterContent_cphChildContent_lblBody\">\n<h4 style=\"font-weight: 500; color: inherit;\"><em>What Does a Police\u00a0Constable do?<\/em><\/h4>\n<p><em>To put it simply, police officers maintain law and order: protect members of the public and their property; and prevent, detect and investigate crime. But of course, it&#8217;s a much more complex job than that.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It needn&#8217;t be, but it is.<\/p>\n<p><em>You will work to a shift pattern and whilst this is normally over a 40 hour week Police Scotland has a range of flexible working policies to suit individual circumstances.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>For example, when hordes of rampaging ajax fans come charging down the Gallowgate, you must shift as far away from the trouble as possible.<\/p>\n<p><em>We&#8217;re an integral part of the community &#8211; as much at home at major sporting events as we are in local classrooms. Our work is based in, around and for the local communities that we serve. That&#8217;s why it&#8217;s important our officers are respectful of the culture and beliefs of others.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Except the Irish diaspora. And their sympathisers.<\/p>\n<p><em>Make no mistake, it can be a challenging and unpredictable job &#8211; as you leave for your daily patrol, there&#8217;s no knowing what you might encounter &#8211; but it&#8217;s also rewarding like no other. You&#8217;ll actively make life safer and more secure for everyone around you. And nothing&#8217;s more important than that.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Except for football fans. Thats how you make up your wages, with the &#8220;arrest bonus &#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>As a probationary officer, you&#8217;ll come face to face with the community we serve every day: providing the initial response to incidents; searching person(s), premises and vehicles; attending calls; interviewing suspects, victims and witnesses; taking statements; preparing reports; making enquiries into crimes and offences; gathering and using intelligence; making arrests; preserving crime scenes and presenting evidence in court.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Notably &#8220;searching persons &#8221; ,football fans for instance. \u00a0Especially if they have pockets or bags where they can hide things. \u00a0Or even if they haven&#8217;t, hit them until they tell you where they&#8217;ve hidden things. And don&#8217;t forget threats and intimidation, both handy tools for the young , ambitious officer. \u00a0We like to encourage that. Helps build confidence.<\/p>\n<p><em>You&#8217;ll need to complete two years as a probationary officer. Following this, you&#8217;ll need to prove over the course of time, that you have developed into a fully competent officer, across all aspects of the role before you even start to think about developing your career prospects.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Examples of this &#8220;fully competent officer&#8221; are available as soon as we find one.<\/p>\n<p><em>Lateral development can be gained by specialising in a particular area of policing, such as CID, Road Policing, Licensing or the Support Unit. Of course, for some officers with the requisite skills and potential, the option to study for the police diploma can be considered &#8211; which is the very first step towards being eligible for future promotion.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Or, simply hit as many people over the head with your baton as you can. Then get your fellow officers to say they attacked you. Collating evidence is a crucial part of police work. Otherwise you have to be put on gardening leave until it all dies down.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m going to relate to you a true story, regarding the competence of a police force which surfaced recently. Not Police Scotland, but a major force down south.<\/p>\n<p>A high ranking, but now retired , officer, thirty years service, allowed his daughter to throw a fancy dress party, it got a little loud, but he managed to sort it all out when he returned from his night out.<\/p>\n<p>However, the police turned up, mob handed, and decided to check on everyone.<\/p>\n<p>A particularly enthusiastic officer went upstairs, and arrived back in the living room, breathless, largely due to her somewhat rotund physique, and claimed loudly that there was a young man, passed out on abed, pale and with blood oozing from his mouth.<\/p>\n<p>Our man helpfully, and somewhat sarcastically, pointed out that it was a fancu=y dress party, and the young man was, in fact, wearing the costume of &#8220;the joker &#8220;, from Batman.<\/p>\n<p>At which point he was arrested, bundled to the floor, handcuffed and put in the car.<\/p>\n<p>An ID check allowed him to be released.<\/p>\n<p>Protect and Serve ?<\/p>\n<p>anyhoo, back to the story about Obergruppenfuhrer McInulty..<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>The police chief in charge of Sunday\u2019s potentially explosive Old Firm clash has warned Rangers and Celtic players they have a duty to avoid inflaming rival supporters.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Chief Superintendent Brian McInulty, local police commander for Greater Glasgow, will spearhead an operation involving 450 officers before and after the Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\" style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>Officers have already visited all four semi-finalists, which includes Hibs and Dundee United, to provide a list of dos-and-donts this weekend.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\"><em>\u2018We have worked very closely with all four of the clubs involved in the semi-finals and there is a message there for the players. And it extends to supporters as well,\u2019 said CS McInulty.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\"><em>\u2018Let\u2019s make sure we remember this for the right reason.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\"><em>\u2018It is a football match we are talking about. For me, football players are role models, there is no doubt about that.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">There should also be no doubt that the police should be seen as role models, but he didn&#8217;t mention that.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\"><em>\u2018Quite often what happens on the pitch can influence people. We have reminded the players of that. Experience shows that.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mol-para-with-font\"><em>\u2018Although we had a game 12 months ago, a lot of the Rangers and Celtic players have not experienced this fixture. The 21st century celebrity culture has led to a lot of people making a lot more money than they are used to, and will also have found expert financial advice easy to come by.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">This is just the beginning.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">It may even be that one or two who are in need of a cash injection have re surfaced for exactly that reason, such as Walter Smith, former Rangers manager who also collected his wages in an unorthodox manner.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">He&#8217;s been burbling away again, and has some advice for Warburton, who for a few weeks anyway, is in charge at &#8220;rangers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">Not financial advice, obviously. Warbs has to stop ten in a row.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>\u201cIt\u2019s a pressure that will come on Rangers, it will come on right away. I hear people saying that they\u2019ve got time but I\u2019m afraid time and patience were never virtues that Rangers supporters were blessed with.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>\u201cFirst and foremost the challenge is there for Rangers, having been out for four years. It\u2019s a bigger challenge for them than for Celtic who\u2019ve been winning championships.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>\u201cSo not only have you to go in and do well, you\u2019ve also got to stop Celtic getting that nine in a row towards, dare I say it, 10 in a row.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>\u201cCeltic have had a free run and nobody would have expected that circumstance. They\u2019ve taken advantage of it and it\u2019ll be up to Rangers to react.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>\u201cThat\u2019s the awkward thing for everybody at Rangers &#8211; they\u2019ve so much to do to get back and they have to choose whether to sort things around the club.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>\u201cThere\u2019s a level of optimism there that they can do it and get back to near the level they were at five to 10 years ago.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">\n<p><em>\u201cRangers will get back and it doesn\u2019t matter what they say, it\u2019s a good thing for Scottish football. We have missed the Old Firm. It\u2019s taken an edge off Celtic, there is absolutely no doubt about that.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">\n<p><em>\u201cDeila has had kind of a rough ride but he has not had the motivation that Rangers bring to the championship.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">\n<p><em>\u201cIf you look at Celtic, they have maybe downsized a bit from when I retired five years ago.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">\n<p><em>\u201cWith due respect to the players that are there just now, I don\u2019t think Celtic are as good a team. Any assessment you have to make of Deila is a difficult one. Celtic have dropped a little bit of a level, maybe quite rightly, because they don\u2019t need to spend the money they had to if Rangers were challenging them for that Champions League place.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">\n<p><em>\u201cMotivationally, it\u2019s difficult as well because you are going into a season and what is your motivation?<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">\n<p><em>\u201cYou are going to win the league because you have won the league for the last five years.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">\n<p><em>\u201cWhen that happened before for both Rangers and Celtic when they were winning nine in a row, they always knew they had to beat the other one the following season. Celtic have not had that for four years and that\u2019s been a problem.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">\n<p><em>\u201cFar be it from me to have sympathy for the Celtic manager but sometimes you have to look a bit deeper than the manager\u2019s input.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\nAstonishing.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">Of course, Rangers period of dominance, inspired by creative accounting, was completely different&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\"><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cDeila has come here, he\u2019s won the league title but it\u2019s not just about that, it\u2019s about the Champions League &#8211; that\u2019s how you\u2019re gauged.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">Nurse !! He&#8217;s fallen out of bed again.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">His own record in the Champions League speaks for itself, doesn&#8217;t it ?<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">I can&#8217;t read any more of that. It&#8217;s making my eyes vomit.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">Meanwhile, in England, a refereeing appontment, and subsequent change, caught my attention<\/p>\n<p class=\"sp-story-body__introduction\" style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #121212;\"><em>The Premier League has removed referee Kevin Friend from Tottenham Hotspur&#8217;s game at Stoke City on Monday, because he supports top-of-the-table Leicester.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #121212;\"><em>Spurs are City&#8217;s closest rivals, seven points behind with five games left.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #121212;\"><em>The Professional Game Match Officials Ltd (PGMOL) does not pick Friend, who lives in Leicester and has attended games in a personal capacity, to referee matches involving the Foxes.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #121212;\"><em>The PGMOL said &#8220;the timing and context&#8221; of the game saw it replace Friend.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #121212;\"><em>&#8220;It was felt unnecessary to add extra scrutiny on the refereeing appointment,&#8221; a PGMOL statement said. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #121212;\">Yet another aspect where the parochial SFA is miles behind the rest of the world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #121212;\">Surely they should take their lead from England and appoint someone beyond reproach ?<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #121212;\">Oh, wait&#8230;there isn&#8217;t anyone.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #121212;\">Mind you, i guess Celtic have their support in influential positions as well.
