Orange Order complains of \u2018cold house\u2019 NI civil service<\/h1>\n

The\u00a0Orange Order<\/a>\u00a0has claimed that Protestants in the\u00a0Northern Ireland<\/a>\u00a0civil service are not being treated fairly compared with Catholics, citing double-standards in the acceptance of cultural practices.<\/em><\/p>\n

A number of the 25 people surveyed by the loyal order for a new report complained about Catholic civil servants coming into work with Ash Wednesday ash on their foreheads and having sympathy Mass cards on their desks.<\/em><\/p>\n

It was claimed that this compared with some Protestant being instructed to remove \u201creligious tracts\u201d from their desks.<\/em><\/p>\n

Catholic colleagues discussing the results of GAA games, or a parent referring to the confirmation of a child, were also cited as matters that made work life difficult for Protestant civil servants.<\/em><\/p>\n

The people surveyed for the report,\u00a0Fairness & Fear: An Investigation of the Treatment of Protestants in the Northern Ireland Civil Service, were Orange Order members, or had close relatives in the organisation.<\/em><\/p>\n

Cold house factor<\/em><\/h4>\n

The order said the survey was in response to an increasing number of complaints. Referring to a \u201ccold house factor\u201d for Protestants in the civil service, it said: \u201cOur members are saying to us that they are not being treated fairly and they are afraid to speak out.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Citing official statistics, the report said there were 300 fewer Protestants in the 25,000 civil service workforce than would be the case if the service \u201cexactly reflected\u201d the Catholic-Protestant population breakdown.<\/em><\/p>\n

One woman surveyed said line management specifically spoke of the schools their children attended playing \u201ccamogie and GAA\u201d. \u201cI see this as letting Protestant staff know who they are.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

The order also criticised the promotion of the \u201cLiofa\u201d Irish- language campaign within the civil service and the publication in a civil service newsletter of people wearing items of clothing bearing GAA logos.<\/em><\/p>\n

It complained that people wearing clothing with soccer logos were blurred out.<\/em><\/p>\n

SDLP Assembly member Patsy McGlone said the complaints about the GAA, Mass cards and confirmations were \u201cinsulting\u201d, \u201cdeeply bigoted\u201d and \u201cfundamentally stupid\u201d, and missed the fact that many Protestants take the sacrament of confirmation.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/section>\n

Celtic have announced ticketing criteria and prices for the upcoming Scottish cup semi final, though from the blurb, I’ve no idea who we are playing…<\/div>\n

AS the quest for a domestic double continues, Celtic are heading to Hampden next month for the Scottish Cup semi-final.<\/em><\/p>\n

Ronny Deila’s side travel to the National Stadium for a 12noon kick-off on Sunday, April 17, having reached the final four of the competition thanks to a 3-0 victory over Greenock Morton at Celtic Park earlier this month.<\/em><\/p>\n

Season Ticket holders who are members of the Home Cup Ticket Scheme and Season Ticket holders who have attended earlier rounds of the competition have been rewarded by being first in the queue for tickets for the Hampden match.<\/em><\/p>\n

The ticketing criteria is as follows:<\/strong><\/em>
\nTickets for the William Hill Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden on Sunday, April 17 will be allocated to Season Ticket holders based on membership of the Home Cup Ticket Scheme (as at March 6) and in order of priority as follows: \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

– Season Ticket holders who attended Stranraer, East Kilbride and Greenock Morton games.<\/em><\/p>\n

– Season Ticket holders who attended Greenock Morton and East Kilbride games.<\/em><\/p>\n

– Season Ticket holders who attended Greenock Morton and Stranraer games.<\/em><\/p>\n

– Season Ticket holders who attended Stranraer and East Kilbride games.<\/em><\/p>\n

– Season Ticket Holders who have attended more than 3 away matches this season, up to and including Hamilton on February 26, and not including matches against Hearts or the re-arranged fixture against Dundee<\/em><\/p>\n

Thereafter, any remaining tickets will be balloted among those Season Ticket holders who have attended more than two away matches this season.<\/em><\/p>\n

Please note, the reason for the ballot is that we will not have sufficient allocation for all Season Ticket holders in this category.<\/em><\/p>\n

We ask that Season Ticket holders do not contact the Ticket Office at this time as we cannot advise on who will be allocated a ticket.<\/em><\/p>\n

Alan Judge has taken to Twitter to clarify his comments about linking up with formerBrentford<\/a>\u00a0boss Mark Warburton at Glasgow Rangers, insisting that they were a joke.<\/em><\/p>\n

The 27-year-old,\u00a0who is likely to leave Griffin Park at the end of the season,<\/a>\u00a0was speaking at a press event at the Republic of Ireland’s training camp in Malahide ahead of the Boys in Green’s upcoming friendlies against Switzerland and Slovakia.<\/em><\/p>\n

When asked about his old manager,\u00a0Judge<\/a>\u00a0was full of praise for the Rangers boss, saying, “He was the reason I went down to\u00a0Brentford<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n
