{"id":8131,"date":"2015-11-15T11:52:09","date_gmt":"2015-11-15T11:52:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/etims.net\/?p=8131"},"modified":"2015-11-15T11:52:09","modified_gmt":"2015-11-15T11:52:09","slug":"celtic-diary-sunday-november-15-lord-livingston-to-resign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/etims.net\/?p=8131","title":{"rendered":"Celtic Diary Sunday November 15: Lord Livingston To Resign ?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After finding himself the target of much anger from the supporters of the club he directs, well, thats what directors do, I assume, Lord Livingston of Parkhead, who voted for an increase in hunger among children at the house of Lords, has attempted to defend his act.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #3f3f3f;\">&#8220;I would like to see changes to the tax credit proposal to ameliorate the impact of it. However, I voted against the motions as it is not the constitutional role of the unelected House of Lords to overturn the clear will of the elected House of Commons on a financial matter.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Holding a peeled onion, the peer explained that he was only in government in the first place<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #3f3f3f;\">&#8220;because I was prepared to serve (for nothing) as Trade Minister and gave up being CEO of BT to do so because I felt I could help create employment and economic growth for the UK by promoting exports and inward investment. I feel I had some impact. I had little history in politics and certainly no intent to be involved in government until the PM asked me to become trade minister.&#8221; \u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #3f3f3f;\">&#8220;Finally, I know a lot of Labour peers felt differently about the role of the House of Lords vote but interestingly they did not vote for the fatal motion which does suggest they knew that there was an issue. I am surprised to see so many people think the non-elected House of Lords should override the will of the Commons. To my mind the House of Lords insofar as it has any role should be a chamber that scrutinises and amends the details of laws.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Er, the purpose of the House of Lords is to act as a check on the Lower House, according to www.parliament.co.uk<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>What does the House of Lords do?<\/em><\/h2>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>The House of Lords is the second chamber of the UK Parliament. It works with the House of Commons to:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"><em>make laws<\/em><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"><em>check and challenge\u00a0the actions of the government, and<\/em><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: inherit; font-style: inherit;\"><em>provide a forum of independent expertise<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>The House of Lords Chamber spends about 60%\u00a0of its time on legislation; the other 40% is spent on scrutiny\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: inherit;\">\u2013<\/span>\u00a0questioning Government and debating issues and policy. Committee work takes place outside the Chamber. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">So, you would think that when a bill is introduced that goes against his own feelings, he would vote with his conscience.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Apparently not.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">On something as important as the welfare of the vulnerable in society, the man has expressed his opinion.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">It is not an opinion which sits comfortably alongside his role as a director of Celtic FC.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">The petition for his resignation has reached ten thousand or so.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">If you haven&#8217;t already signed it, please let your feeling be known to the man who , in his defence of his actions in the House, claims to listen to the people.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/etims.net\/?attachment_id=8132\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-8132\">Petition to Remove Lord Livingston<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><em>One wonders if he will go with the will of the people this time, and do the honourable thing.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Elsewhere, and the EBT did they cheat?\/did they cheat a lot ? debate rumbles on, despite there not really being anything to debate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">They did it, and everyone knows they did it. all thats happening now is a damage limitation exercise, led by a compliant media, in the hope that we&#8217;ll all just forget about it and carry on, presumably with a strong Rangers entity in place to ensure we all live in some sort of footballing utopia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">With various articles outling the somewhat bizarre opinion such as \u00a0that they would have won anyway, they were won on the pitch and a whole load of other hastily thrown together nonsense, it was no surprise that Richard Gough, a former captain of the old club, said his piece yesterday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Clamouring for an end to the &#8220;witch hunt &#8221; aimed at Rangers old club and their unique style of remuneration, which involved the delaying of paying tax, for around fifty years or so, Gough introduced an imaginary scenario&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">\u00a0<em>Can you imagine if it emerged in later years that Henrik Larsson had an EBT during that season?\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">It won&#8217;t, because he didn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\"><em>If it turned out the Swede \u2014 Celtic\u2019s key player in that title triumph \u2014 was paid via a scheme that\u2019s now infamous in Scottish football.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">Surely &#8220;illegal &#8221; , and not infamous ?<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\"><em>Following the logic of the real-life never-ending EBT row, I\u2019d be due a league winner\u2019s medal.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\"><em>For me and all the rest of my Rangers team-mates, ten-in-a-row would suddenly be a reality.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">No it wouldn&#8217;t, because you&#8217;d have lost the other nine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\"><em>You\u2019d think I\u2019d be delighted to see my name written into the history books, right?\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">Not as delighted as i will, with a little asterisk next to it explaining your team cheated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\"><em>Wrong. I would have no interest in that medal. I would have no interest in seeing Celtic stripped of that historic title.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\"><em>That is the honest truth. It would mean nothing to me.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\"><em>It wouldn\u2019t matter if Wim Jansen\u2019s entire Celtic squad had EBTs, they won it fair and square on the pitch.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">Ah, but you see, the entire Celtic squad didn&#8217;t have EBTS, and therefore they did win it fair and square on the pitch.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">Which the bold Riachard appears to have forgotten.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #333333;\">Gough recently returned froma trip overseas pitching for extra finance for the stricken new Ibrox entity.
