There’s just been so many people that the Ibrox support have blamed for killing their club, even though they still don’t think it’s dead, that I get all mixed up. Anyhoo, things are happening to some of the stars of the world’s longest running pantomime, ,as we will see later.

But first, more nonsense …

Every now and again, we get a commentator, or a pundit, who lends us the benefit of his wisdom. And i’s usually on sky sports, which is more and more turning into a home for the unemployable former footballer. When they’ve made an arse of management, that is.

This time it’s Paul Merson, formerly of Arsenal, alcoholics anonymous and the drug rehabilitation centre, said, on Soutthampton’s latest recruit from Celtic, Virgil van Dijk;

“I’m not sure about Virgil van Dijk at all because he’s been playing for Celtic and hasn’t had to head a ball. He sent van Dijk a message on instagram which the press said was ;

“I’m sure this is just your first step to the top,” ,

A little worrying, as it implies that Celtic is one step below that….

However, this is actually the message;

1d

nir_bitton_Bro,I’m so happy for u and I’m sure this is just your first stop to the top!

Good luck and all the best BROTHER!!!

Which isn’t the same thing at all.

Those of you a little worried about the lack of cover for Leigh Griffiths might have been right after all. Stories from Birmingham, which unusually don’t feature guns and drugs, are emerging that claim anthony stokes was all set to go to Birmingham city, but Celtic wouldn’t agree to the transfer fee.

So the Birmingham Mail says, anyway.

And Neil Lennon , having arguably had his managerial career saved by the bold Anthony when the striker single handedly hauled the hoops back into a game against Kilmarnock, was also in the hunt.

What we have here appears to be a case of Stokesy could have gone had Celtic brought in Michu or Fletcher, neither of whom apparently wanted to come to Glasgow.

Which, in retrospect, is a relief.

Fletchers terrible, and Michu is always injured.

Fair enough, some players recover from injury and do regain their form, but this is a policy which clearly hasn’t worked for Celtic, so let’s give it a miss from now on, shall we ?

There will be another Gary Hooper out there, and maybe our scouts should be looking for him, instead of checking the admissions log at casualty wards up and down the country.

Another article on the site, Hector Bandido’s excellent summary of the transfer activity over the last six weeks raised one point.

By 2020, if the current trend continues, you will never be more than six feet from a player on loan from Celtic.

although not many of them are forwards, and this is a serious issue.

Whoever scouts the strikers isn’t finding them, whoever coaches them isn’t teaching them, and whoever agrees the price and wages for them should be invited onto the car park and given a proper kicking.

Now, it’s all very well to criticise a policy, but you need to offer a solution. I did. look for the next big thing. Easier said than done ? Perhaps, but the players are out there.

This is an excellent follow up by Tictactic to his own blog from a couple of years ago, showing the pitfalls of speculating on players, but also , the conclusion is fairly obvious…

Titactic Article

so with that in mind-if you haven’t read it, go back and have a look- done ? okay, we’ll continue…

The thing is, there is no way of predicting how a player will do, whether he cost £100,000, £1m, or £10m . If the manager felt that what he wanted wasn’t out there, then it is better to wait until it is.

My wife had a win on the slots the other week, fair few quid, and she wanted to spend it. Apparently because it was extra money, that was what it was for.

She was spending for the sake of spending, which always reduces me to tears, so i can see the sense in waiting until something you really want comes along.

My nightmare has always been the horror of running out of money before the pub shuts. Far better, but equally distressing, to have the pub shut while you are still in possession of a few quid.

The point is, if Deila wasn’t sure that whatever was on offer wasn’t any better than what we already have, then there’s no point in spending for the sake of spending.

I can live with that.

Unless you live in a cave, you would have noticed that, in keeping with the rest of the city, Glasgow Sherriff Court was Green and Whyte yesterday as the two men who rescued comedy from the likes of Miranda Hart and Michael McIntyre appeared to provide some of us with a little pick me up after the gloom of the last few days.

The BBC takes up the story…

Former Rangers owner Craig Whyte and ex-chief executive Charles Green have been charged with conspiracy and involvement in serious organised crime.

David Whitehouse, from administrators Duff and Phelps, faces the same charges while Mr Green, 62, is also accused of fraud.

An angry crowd of fans shouted abuse as police escorted them from Glasgow Sheriff Court.

All three have been granted bail to return to court at a later date.

The three men were arrested on Tuesday after a police investigation into the sale of Rangers assets in 2012.

Another accountant, 51-year-old Paul Clark, who ran the club while it was in administration, has also been arrested.

Rangers was sold to Craig Whyte by its former owner Sir David Murray in 2011 for a nominal sum of £1.

But it entered administration in February 2012 after running out of cash.

Mr Whitehouse, 50, who worked at Duff and Phelps, was appointed as joint administrator, along with colleague Mr Clark.

When an agreement with creditors could not be struck to allow the club to exit administration, a sale of Rangers’ assets to a consortium led by Mr Green was concluded.

He was at the helm when Rangers were allowed to join the Third Division butstepped down in 2013 following allegations that he was working in conjunction with Mr Whyte, 44.

Charles Green was shielded by police officers when he left by the front door of the court at around 15:30 BST on Wednesday.

A group of around 20 supporters shouted and tried to jostle the former Sheffield United chief executive.

Mr Whitehouse left the court to equally angry scenes around 20 minutes later.

Craig Whyte, 44, then made his exit just before 19:00 and was met by another angry crowd.

The trio have been charged under Section 28 of the Criminal Justice Licensing Act 2010, which covers serious organised crime offences.
