Not just at the result, not just at the performance of a number of “fringe ” players, such as Kris Commons, Saidy Janko and Eoghan O’Connell, but at the ease with which the players all played the system the way he wants them to.<\/p>\n
Compare and contrast the result and performance on Saturday with the game this time last year against Inverness, where Celtic made ten changes and lost 1-0. Progress isn’t always entirely visible, but in this case it’s there to see, and it’s extremely significant.<\/p>\n
It would have been easy for the players \u00a0to just turn up and put in half hearted shifts, but they didn’t. They could have tried to put themselves in the shop window, with only a week or so of the transfer window remaining. They didn’t.<\/p>\n
What they did do was give the boss further food for thought. If mikael Lustig, as expected, doesn’t make the game, or breaks down during it, Saidy Janko gave the manager a reminder that he’s a player. Maybe not the finished article, but he has pace, strength and heart, and would do a job if called upon.<\/p>\n

Maybe they were just miffed about him not going to Second Rangers, as they, and others, mercilessly and relentlessly pushed for. Maybe it meant they would have had to talk about the on line abuse the player received from the disappointed Ibrox support. Or maybe they figured that we all wanted to see the Morton- St. Mirren highlights instead.
