{"id":7517,"date":"2015-07-27T10:10:38","date_gmt":"2015-07-27T09:10:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/etims.net\/?p=7517"},"modified":"2015-07-27T10:10:38","modified_gmt":"2015-07-27T09:10:38","slug":"celtic-diary-monday-july-27-celts-ready-to-roll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/etims.net\/?p=7517","title":{"rendered":"Celtic Diary Monday July 27: Celts Ready To Roll"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I think we can all agree that we&#8217;re relieved to get the friendlies out of the way.<\/p>\n<p>No injuries, and a morale boosting couple of wins.<\/p>\n<p>Celtic beat Rennes 2-0 on Saturday, with Leigh Griffiths continuing his goalscoring run. Nadir Cifcti replaced him at half time and continued his scoreless run, but he&#8217;s still got some way to go to match John Hartson, who didn&#8217;t open his account for what felt like months, and then, when he did, all was forgiven and forgotten. Gary Mackay Steven got the other goal, and apart from a couple of dodgy tackles that were encouraged by referee Steven MacLean, Celtic didn&#8217;t really have anything to worry about.<\/p>\n<p>Even if it had gone badly, there was hardly anyone in the crowd to notice. At half time, ronny deila made nine changes which suggested that the starting line up on Wednesday will be the same as the one that started against Rennes.<\/p>\n<p>Which would be;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #222222;\">Gordon; Ambrose, van Dijk, Boyata, Mulgrew; Bitton, Brown; Forrest, Armstrong, Mackay-Steven; Griffiths.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Mulgrew took a knock which led to him being replaced by Emilio Izaguirre, but he should be okay for the visit of Qarabag. The exclusion of Lustig from the start means that he mught not be. He has struggled, and given that Deila has been loathe to play players who are not one hundred percent then Efe it is.<\/p>\n<p>So, let&#8217;s look ahead.<\/p>\n<p>Scott Brown thinks that Leigh Griffiths could make a name for himself this week, reading between the lines here, I reckon Brown thinks he&#8217;s a goalscorer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #3f3f3f;\"><em>\u201cHe has come off the bench and proved that he is a natural goalscorer He will come off the bench and score goals all season if he has to.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #3f3f3f;\"><em>&#8220;But hopefully he gets his chance because he will score goals. He is a natural goalscorer. I think he is probably the best finisher I have played with and it would be nice to see him get the nod.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #3f3f3f;\"><em>\u201cIf Leigh is in the box with the ball at his left foot then nine times out of ten I would expect him to score.<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"ufo ufo-right\" style=\"color: #3f3f3f;\"><\/div>\n<p style=\"color: #3f3f3f;\"><em>\u201cHe is a fit lad. He is a worker and he is never out of the gym. He likes playing off the shoulder and I am sure he will be right up there in terms of goals again this season.\u201d \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #3f3f3f;\">Then he had a message for his fellow players;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe are definitely a Champions League teamWe are good enough to get there, but it is one thing to say it and another to do it. That is the real test. If we are good enough then this is the time for us to go out and prove it.<\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"DFP_kicker\" class=\"ufo ufo-left\"><em>\u00a0\u201cThese games are difficult. They are a test and you have to be ready for them. We know what it takes to get to the Champions League. The rewards are there, but you need to be good enough.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div class=\"ufo ufo-left\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"ufo ufo-left\">And so did Gary Mackay Steven, who also spoke of the prospect of Champions League football;<\/div>\n<div class=\"ufo ufo-left\">\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\">\u00a0\u201c<em>We feel it\u2019s where we belong \u2013 but actions speak louder than words.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\"><em>\u201cYou can talk all you want about how it\u2019s a big club but ultimately it\u2019s what we do on the park that matters.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\"><em>\u201cWe have to go out there, show we can play at that level and produce the goods.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\"><em>\u201cEverything is in place here and we need to show that on Wednesday.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\"><em>\u201cWe\u2019ve\u00a0<a style=\"font-weight: 400; font-style: inherit; color: #ed002d;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/sport\/football\/football-news\/tie-far-qarabag-celtic-boss-6140509\" target=\"_blank\" data-content-type=\"news\" data-type=\"inline\" data-action=\"6140509\" data-word-count=\"4\" data-track=\"true\">heard all about Qarabag<\/a>\u00a0and we\u2019ll need to be at the top of our game.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\"><em>\u201cIt\u2019s massive for us as players as well and we use that pressure as motivation.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\"><em>\u201cWe want to play in the Champions League and feel we\u2019re ready. We know Wednesday is a big game but we are relishing the chance to play at that level. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\">Mananger Ronny Deila seemed a little less tense than the players;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe\u2019ll start showing the players footage of Qarabag on Monday or Tuesday. It is going to be a very big challenge for us.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cYou just need to look at their results in the\u00a0<a style=\"font-weight: 400; font-style: inherit; color: #ed002d;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/europa-league\" target=\"_blank\" data-content-type=\"section-topic\" data-type=\"inline\" data-action=\"europa-league\" data-word-count=\"2\" data-track=\"true\">Europa League<\/a>\u00a0last year to know that. They are quite a technical team.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThey have a few Brazilians and a Spanish player. They have a team who will want to attack and play football.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe full-backs are very offensive so it\u2019s going to be a game with a lot of tactics and a high tempo.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThey are a team who have improved over time so it\u2019s going to be a test for us.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWe will take care of the travelling. It\u2019s going to be the same for them because they have to play at night while we will kick-off at 5.30pm our time. That matters as well.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWill the time difference matter? Yeah, I think so but they have to come to Scotland too. Players have changed and there is always a surprise in the league.
