There\u00a0I was sitting watching a box set of the excellent Silicon Valley the other night when\u00a0I suddenly thought “HAUD OAN A MINUTE!”.<\/p>\n

For those not familiar with the show, its a\u00a0light hearted fictional story that basically follows a rag-taggle bunch of Application Coders and Software Engineers who write a new application named Pied Piper\u00a0and hope\u00a0to make it rich and\u00a0become the next Facebook\\Mark Zuckerberg style success story.<\/p>\n

As always, theres thrills, pills and belly aches along the way.<\/p>\n

Its a recommended watch, especially for anyone in I.T but, as I will show below, also for fans of Scottish football.<\/p>\n

So there I am..watching the show and the build up plotline ( spoiler approaching alert!!) is as follows<\/p>\n

The guys have demo-ed their app at a conference and had a great success.<\/p>\n

The Venture Capitalists\u00a0\u00a0start making offers and the world is their oyster.<\/p>\n

A large corporation making a similar\u00a0application \u00a0suddenly sue the guys for Intellectual Property theft.<\/p>\n

The Venture capitalist run away in fear without handing over a penny.<\/p>\n

The guys face closure if they dont get immediate funding from someone very rich!<\/p>\n

( Can you see where this is going yet?)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The main guy, Richard, decides enough is enough and as he walks towards the office to concede defeat, suddenly a miracle happens. A billionaire investor named Russ Hanneman arrives claiming hes happy to help and says that he is so hands off its unbelievable!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

(Surely you see where this is going now?)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

After some drinks and a nice meaty meal, the \u00a0nice Billionaire offers them $5m to help out<\/p>\n

The main man Richard\u00a0agrees despite clever business people saying “Hes\u00a0a horrible \u00a0human being!<\/em>”<\/p>\n

The Billionaiire\u00a0duly\u00a0hands\u00a0over a cheque for $5m.<\/p>\n

The Application guys proudly publically announce\u00a0\u00a0how the\u00a0 nice\u00a0 Billionaire has helped\u00a0saved the day.<\/p>\n

They\u00a0deposit the cheque.<\/p>\n

(Guess what happens next!)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It bounces.<\/p>\n

The business-world naive coders then\u00a0ask the nice Billionaire “Whats happened with this cheque?”<\/p>\n

He calmly tells them \u201cOh That one cheque is just for show, I will give\u00a0money in monthly chunks after due diligence\u201d.<\/p>\n

He then \u00a0hands them another cheque for an undisclosed but very small amount, to meet running costs.<\/p>\n

They look at the cheque and realise its even less than\u00a0needed for\u00a0payday. They say \u201cWhy so low?\u201d<\/p>\n

He smiles, pauses and then says \u201cWell now\u00a0that Im on the board, \u00a0I’ve went and took an executive decision. Ive ordered\u00a0 lots of advertising from one of my Marketing companies and Im also gonna order\u00a0merchandise material from one of my other companies. They needed paid up front but hey dont worry, I got you a great deal of course!\u201d<\/p>\n

They cry and feel like this.<\/p>\n

He laughs and gets 2 seats on the board and shares and they are beholden to him forever.<\/p>\n

Everyone in the business world say “We told you so!”.<\/p>\n

I really cant wait to see whats next!<\/p>\n
