Young hip trendy fitba supporters wore pringle jumpers, faded jeans and Kickers boots with the wee label flapping about off your laces. Your Da and older family wore stay-press, nylon shirts, white socks and crap training shoes. While they had Zammo from Grange Hill home haircuts clearly done after a poor masturbation session in the toilet, the trendies had their hair highlights as they stood out from the rest not realising they looked like a poor version of the wee singing guy from Dollar

Celtic and Aberdeen were the two top teams in Scotland and over 50,000 would be at Celtic Park watching them go hammer and tongs.

Ladies and gentlemen, we give you….the 1980’s!

It’s taken them far longer than expected but thankfully Aberdeen are now back up there competing and making a genuine challenge to be crowned champions of Scotland. Can only be a good thing for the game in this country.

The demise of Rangers led the usual bluenose apologists to inform us how the game couldn’t survive without them and it would all be armageddooooooon. Every supporter of every other club knew it was utter bollocks and it’s been refreshing seeing both the Dons and Dundee United (apologies for buying Armstrong and GMS!) making genuine advances once more. Aberdeen under-achieved for too long and it’s credit to Derek McInness for showing excellent management skills to create a team who consistently win while playing good football and with a relatively small budget.

What’s also good to see is there appears to be a health rivalry between Derek McInness and Ronny Deila. Ronny’s style is refreshing and the Celtic supporters love it. Fist pumping and celebrating with the fans while this clearly got under McInness’s skin at Pittodrie, which if memory serves me right was the first time Deila publicly showed his emotions with an ecstatic fanbase following Van Dijk’s last minute winner for ten man Celtic.

Deila’s celebrations upset McInness. Celtic challenge the racism allegations aimed at Tonev upset McInness. Niall McGinn being photographed at a Celtic game upset McInness. Deila saying this match is a must win for Aberdeen upset McInness. There’s a recurring theme here….Yep, he’s a right torn faced shite.

So what about the game?

I think it’s going to be a cracker.

The visitors have good attacking options with pace and power going forward. Rooney will spearhead the forward line and likely be supported by Goodwillie, McGinn and new signing MacLean with Hayes looking as if he may miss the match through to injury.

They have a good defensive shape to them and break in numbers. An opening goal for Celtic will force the Dons to open up and could make matters interesting.

Celtic are back following a tiring match on Thursday night in Milan. Playing with ten men for 60 minutes won’t have helped although if there’s any consolation Van Dijk and Mackay-Stevens should be fit and raring to go!

If all players are available the only change for me would be starting Griffiths ahead of Guidetti. The diminutive striker doesn’t possess the skills of Guidetti but his movement and workrate brings more to the team and his goalscoring form of late has been excellent.

Celtic take risks with both full backs flying forward leaving the two centre backs and Bitton and Brown (sometimes) to break any danger up but personally I wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s fast, it’s attacking and it’s exciting to watch and this is how Celtic should always try and play…it’s part of our DNA…and this is why Ronny has now made such a connection with the Celtic supporters.

Early season form was dire and most of at times questioned his judgement. Since the winter break the team has been superb and it appears his focus on fitness, being 24 hour athletes and giving 100% every day in training or not playing has finally got through to all the players who now genuinely appear to have a real affinity with the manager. The January signings of Armstrong and GMS has given Celtic a totally new dimension as they’ve added real pace, skill and tireless energy to the team.

There’s no doubting some of the Celtic players who gave so much for ninety minutes on Thursday will be tired but the adrenaline rush of a big match with over 50,000 in attendance should see them through the first 75 minutes before some late subs to freshen up the midfield will be required.

You can never guarantee goals in a game but I genuinely believe this will be one cracking fitba match to witness. Celtic’s gung-ho attack versus Aberdeen’s pacey counter attack.

I canny wait!

Probable Celtic team: 4-2-3-1 Gordon, Matthews, Izzy, Denayer, Van Dijk, Bitton, Brown, Mackay-Stevens, Commons, Armstrong and Griffiths.

Prediction: A pulsating end to end match with Celtic to win by two goals.

Let me take you back to a time when men had really shite haircuts and drunk shite beer like Heavy and Skol.
