{"id":5945,"date":"2014-11-05T09:48:56","date_gmt":"2014-11-05T09:48:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/etims.net\/?p=5945"},"modified":"2014-11-05T09:48:56","modified_gmt":"2014-11-05T09:48:56","slug":"celtic-diary-wednesday-november-5-will-celts-swoop-for-mcleod-and-wallace","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/etims.net\/?p=5945","title":{"rendered":"Celtic Diary Wednesday November 5: Will Celts Swoop For McLeod and Wallace ?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Bulgarian Football Association has demanded to know how the SFA came to their decision in \u00a0banning Aleksandr Tonev for seven days for probably using racist language.<\/p>\n<p>The SFAs attempt to add a fourth terminology, joining guilty, not guilty and not proven in legalspeak, appears to have run into an obstacle as &#8220;more than likely guilty &#8221; doesn&#8217;t translate very well. In a statement, the BFA said;<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\"><em>\u00a0\u201cWe join Celtic and express our willingness to assist in revealing the truth.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\"><em>\u201cIn this case it is undeniable \u2013 a young and talented Bulgarian footballer is charged and punished for an offence he allegedly did not commit and no evidence of guilt.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\"><em>\u201cWe demand to see evidence. Otherwise we will consider the penalty is biased and exaggerated.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\">( Left themselves open to a countercharge of inaccuracy \u00a0there, calling Tonev young and talented. )<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\">\u00a0The whole issue now seems to be about geting to the truth, which is what the initial enquiry should have established beyond doubt with a clear , concise explanation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\">\u00a0But this is the SFA, who don&#8217;t do clear or concise.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\">\u00a0In fact, its hard to see what they actually do. Thats because Campbell Ogilvie is in charge, and he doesn&#8217;t like anyone seeing what is going on.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\">\u00a0Mind you, he&#8217;s been known to turn a blind eye and a deaf ear to certain aspects of \u00a0a certain clubs, er, policies and traditions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\">\u00a0Its surprising to see Ogilvie s organisation condemn anyone for racist behaviour on the flimsiest of evidence whem he served eleven years at a club who exhibited racist and sectarian policies in recruitment and song writing, as well as a number of other distasteful practices.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\">\u00a0Maybe he&#8217;s turned over a new leaf&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/etims.net\/?attachment_id=5180\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5180\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5180\" src=\"https:\/\/etims.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/laughter.jpg\" alt=\"laughter\" width=\"153\" height=\"124\" srcset=\"https:\/\/etims.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/laughter.jpg 153w, https:\/\/etims.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/laughter-150x121.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 153px) 100vw, 153px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\">\u00a0Wonder how they&#8217;ll get out of this one ? If I was Tonev I&#8217;d be checking my kit bag for little white bags of powder, and I certainly wouldn&#8217;t leave it unattended at the airport this week.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\">\u00a0And I&#8217;d be taking self defence lessons ahead of Sundays visit to Pittodrie.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\">But before the Pittodrie game there is the small matter of a visit to Romania, and a tie against Astra Guirgiu.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\">\u00a0This will be Celtics 300th European game, stretching back over fifty years to the first one, a defeat to Valencia, in the Fairs Cup.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\">\u00a0Only one of which was in Romania, against Politiechnica Timisoara in the seventies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i2.dailyrecord.co.uk\/incoming\/article4570044.ece\/alternates\/s615\/JS50117146.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\">I remember listening to that game on the radio, and the referee, who was Greek, may well have been influenced by the hosts, who according to Frank McGarvey, had two stunning girlfriends and wasn&#8217;t a looker.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\">\u00a0McGarvey told the Record;<\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u201cI\u2019ve only been cheated twice in my career \u2013 that night in Romania and against Rapid Vienna.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI called the ref a cheat back at the hotel and he pushed me. Billy McNeill stepped in and then two bodyguards came and grabbed him.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cHonestly, I was an inch from nailing the ref but if I had then I\u2019d have been done. That\u2019s why Billy stepped in.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIt\u2019s funny but I remember when we went back to the hotel the referee\u2019s two stunning girlfriends were waiting.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cHe had two beautiful girls with him all night yet he was no looker so where he got them from is a mystery.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cRoddie MacDonald was sent off for nothing and I was red carded too.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI was sent off because I was through on goal late on and I slipped the ball past a defender and someone just came and took me right out and put me up in the air.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI was just about to score so I thought it was a certain penalty but the ref didn\u2019t give anything. It was probably about the worst tackle ever on me. I called the ref a cheat and he sent me off for that.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIt was a farce. It wouldn\u2019t happen now.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIf you could see the tackle on me now then you\u2019d understand why I say that nowadays UEFA would never let him referee ever again.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOther things happened in the game like Danny McGrain winning the toss and\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\"><em>choosing to shoot with the wind behind us. But the referee refused to let that happen.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\"><em>\u201cJohn Clark had great discipline and, as a player, was a model professional but even he lost it that night. That\u2019s the only time I\u2019ve seen him crack.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\"><em>\u201cIt was behind the Iron Curtain and strange things happened to football clubs behind the Iron Curtain at that time.
