One or two were asking about Pensionerbhoy, a regular contributor who had gone quiet of late.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

He answered my email..<\/em>..<\/p>\n

\u00a0Two reasons for my<\/span>\u00a0relative silence.\u00a0 First, I have been reluctant to become embroiled in<\/span>\u00a0some of the edgy discussions about the manager and our recent<\/span>\u00a0performances.\u00a0 While I have found some of the arguments on both sides<\/span>\u00a0very absorbing, I find it difficult to put together any really coherent<\/span>\u00a0comments.\u00a0 Or maybe it is just my piles are too sore from sitting on the<\/span>\u00a0fence.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I really do want to reserve judgement for a while yet as I<\/span>\u00a0remember only too well the barren years of McGrory and pre-Stein.<\/span>\u00a0People think “the troubles” only started in the 80s\/90s.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

No way.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When\u00a0<\/span>you have experienced a decade of almost nothingness then, painful though\u00a0it is, I probably have more patience and hope than most.\u00a0 However, I see\u00a0no benefit in letting the pain of unfulfilled desire rule my”intellectual” thoughts.<\/p>\n

Secondly, and much more appropriate, I have\u00a0been obscenely busy with an increasing load of voluntary obligations,\u00a0house renovations and solitary living due to a three month sabbatical in\u00a0the south seas by my wife.\u00a0 I am finding out that giving the servants a\u00a0living wage, holiday pay and time off are not always a good thing.\u00a0 I am\u00a0also learning that retirement and old age are simply an opportunity for\u00a0so called friends and acquaintances to avail of your willingness (or\u00a0should that be stupidity) to work 24\/7 and not even for the minimum wage\u00a0– in fact they often want you to cover their costs.\u00a0 I now have more DBS\u00a0checks than Celtic have duds.\u00a0 My advice – keep working till it’s time\u00a0for the brown box.<\/p>\n

I do read as often as time permits and that is often\u00a0in the wee small hours now.\u00a0 This week I have hardly managed even that.I am afraid the brain can be a bit dry and extremely slow at that time\u00a0and that referendum fix was no antidote to my malaise.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0I really appreciate your concern.\u00a0 It is baffling but, in some<\/span>\u00a0mysterious way, uplifting that so many want to know if I am dead yet \ud83d\ude00<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 You will know soon enough when the balloons and fireworks go off all<\/span>\u00a0over the country.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Seriously, my grateful thanks to all who have asked \u00a0<\/span>about me and if you and Desi are still speaking, please tell him my\u00a0fence is leaning towards him for the moment.\u00a0 My next plan is to listen\u00a0to all the balanced arguments on the last podcast.\u00a0 Give me another week\u00a0and I should be back rambling on again about nothing worth reading.<\/p>\n
