Summed up perfectly in the new version of the song, by James Doleman on twitter;

Amended

There’s only one John Guidetti, His physical presecene leads to a defender accidently putting the ball in the netty.

End of Diary.

Alright, maybe not. The Swedish striker forced one and finished another sublimely to give Celtic a 2-1 win in Paisley yesterday, when it looked as though the referee would cal a halt to the game at half time on the grounds it would cause drowsiness and prevent people in the crowd from being allowed to drive home.

As usual, manager Ronny Deila surprised us with his line up, but not the formation-if indeed there is a formation out there somewhere-, with Wakaso Mubarak becoming the twenty eighth Celt to start a Premier League game this season. No one has started all seven.

Its not even October yet, but the squad rotation policy is in full swing, and it doesn’t seem to be working. Players don’t come out of a tunnel at Celtic Park anymore, its a revolving door.

Eoghan O’Connell started in place of Jason Denayer, and Kris Commons was left out, having picked up a little injury.

Which meant there was no creativity. Players were huffing and puffing, but , in the words of Arthur Montford and Archie MacPherson from yesteryear, no-one was prepared to put their foot on the ball and dictate play.

But, in Guidetti, it looks like we have found a goalscorer. And should the team finally settle, and advance in the Europa League, he could be the difference between a memorable season and a forgettable one. Make a note of the date. I’m not kidding.

However, theres the job of keeping pace in the title race at home first.

For a brief moment, around the sixty minute mark, Deila realised he was knee deep in poopy kaka and switched to two up front. Two minutes later, Celts were 2-1 up.

Stokes and Guidetti combined to split the St. Mirren defence, and Celtic were ahead. Then , minutes later, Deila removed those two-granted, Guidetti had tweaked his hamstring, which is probably more serious than it sounds .

(“please excuse Johnny from PE today as he has tweaked his hamstring” ” Piss off, it’s cross country running in your pants son ” Maybe that was just my school.)

He replaced them with Stefan Scepovic and Jo Inge Berget, and you kind of knew the scoring was finished. Scepovic has that look of someone who wishes he’d never heard of Glasgow, and would rather be anywhere else, while Berget isn’t quite sure where he has landed up, and is waiting for someone to tell him.

The win keeps Celtic in touch at the top of the League, with Hamilton thrashing Motherwell and Dundee Utd beating St. Johnstone.

Give me a shout when these teams start dropping points, which doesn’t seem like anytime soon. Looks like we got our competitive league, but I’m already fed up of it.

Celtic have regressed, while others have improved.

Of course, the headlines will speak of our regression, and not give any credit to any other side who have stepped up to the plate now that Rangers have exited stage left, and they , too, will be light years ahead of the new club when it finally arrives at the top level, should, of course, they get their finances sorted.

St. Mirren, though, have some way to go to reach that level, and they knew it yesterday, with the likes of Jim Goodwin doing his best to rival the likes of Keith Lasley in the “hired Goons ” stakes. Their boss Tommy Craig claims they only need a goalscorer to make an impression, whilst general opinion would say they have a long way to go to be a top football team, but would have more than a shot at the Rugby title.

As you can see, when Guidetti got his first-referee Craig Thomson told him it was his- both St. Mirren defenders were clearly going for the ball.

Guidetti confirmed it was his goal after the game;

“I had EVERYTHING to do with the first goal.

“The referee’s come to me before the start of the second half and said, ‘John, I’ve given you the goal and you know what they say, don’t argue with the referee’.

“So that’s good enough for me. No wonder they are knackered.

However, with Dinamo Zagreb the visitors on Thursday as the Europa League campaign returns to the fore, Deila reckons a good result and performance will silence his critics.

Well, it would. If you get through the group stages you don’t know what will happen.”

One of Ronnys problems is that what he sees as an achievement, we see as a necessity. His aims appear to be lower than what we have become used to, or maybe even take for granted. Someone tell him he’s not at Stromsgodset anymore before its too late.

“We’ve seen their first game against Astra and we saw them today at Slaven Koprivnica,” Deila said. “They’re a good team but here at Celtic Park we have a good chance to win and that’s what we’re aiming for. It’s important.

Notice he says “we ” have seen them, and not him personally.

Surely after the balls up of the UCL qualifiers you would take over the spying missions yourself ?

And as for home advantage….. dear me, we’ve lost twice at home already this season.

“Celtic have been fantastic at home in Europe for many years. We’re going the right way – we look like a team now and I enjoy that. I’ve been here before when the stadium is full on a European night. It has an effect on the Celtic players and it has an effect on the opposition as well.

“Teams from the Balkans are always very good tactically – they do what they need to do to win and I expect Zagreb to be the same – but they also have good attacking strength and they like to play football. There are some very good players at the club, but at the moment they are not being used to their full potential.

Come on Ronny, sort it out.

Andy Lynch scored the penalty in yesterdays picture, back in the 77 Cup Final.

Another reminder why we don’t miss a certain club from south of the river now. whats happened here ?

John Guidetti.
