{"id":5236,"date":"2014-06-19T10:08:30","date_gmt":"2014-06-19T09:08:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/etims.net\/?p=5236"},"modified":"2014-06-19T10:08:30","modified_gmt":"2014-06-19T09:08:30","slug":"celtic-diary-thursday-june-19-time-to-start-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/etims.net\/?p=5236","title":{"rendered":"Celtic Diary Thursday June 19 : Time to Start Work."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a couple of days getting his breath back, Ronny Deila stepped back into the limelight yesterday, and gave the impression he was loving every minute of it.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/i.imgur.com\/zEU4fuL.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This was the Glasgow taxis outing, an annual charity event where the citys cabbies get together and give disadvantaged kids a run out to Troon for a day on the beach.<\/p>\n<p>The official website summed it all up;<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>&#8221; THE organisers and participants<\/strong> of the annual Glasgow Taxis\u2019 Outing have praised the carnival atmosphere of today\u2019s event.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Families from all over Glasgow gathered at the West End&#8217;s Kelvin Way in the scorching summer sun to take part in the event, which gives children with special needs a chance to take a trip to Troon for a day at the beach.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Celtic helped fund the event with a \u00a37,000 donation from Celtic FC Foundation, bringing the Club&#8217;s total support of the Outing to \u00a3121,000 over the past 16 years.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">The journey sees taxi drivers decorate their cabs in colourful balloons and wraps to give the children taking part a journey they will never forget.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">And new Celtic manager, Ronny Deila, was on hand to judge the best-dressed taxi and officially launch the event. And families and drivers taking part said the day was a massive success. &#8220;<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">But then it was down to business, and Deila got an idea of what to expect from the MSM when they dragged up a spat between captain Scott Brown and new assistant John Collins when they were both at Hibs several years ago;<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>&#8220;I asked him [Brown] about John, but, as he said, it has been many years now and he&#8217;s a professional, a little older and maybe brighter as well,&#8221; said Deila. &#8220;It&#8217;s not going to be any problem and, of course, I&#8217;m the manager. It is Scott and me who are going to have the most important dialogue.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I think this is a much bigger thing for you [the media] than for them. In football, you have seen fights, a lot of things, and this is not a thing at all. If there is no temperature, there is no development. If everyone goes to training and returns home and thinks, &#8216;I don&#8217;t give a s***&#8217;, we will stay at the same level all the time.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;We need disagreement, but we have to solve it in a good way for Celtic and for the squad. I know that is going to be handled very well. People mature as well. Seven years ago, I couldn&#8217;t have been standing here as Celtic manager. If they had something in the past, they are grown-up people and I know that is not going to cause any trouble. We need strong opinions and personalities.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;It was a telephone call I had with Scott because he is in Miami and that is a little bit too far to go. I&#8217;ve spoken with some of the players and, of course, Scott was one of them as he is the captain and a very important player for us.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Common sense ? Sounds like it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Dialogue with Scott Brown ? Good luck with that.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com\/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSUN4JaobQ5BsVDvy5U_BRam6N0YJBx1YdbeOIXFIvOzxayIJnG\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">But if he can take Brown to a level of maturity that means no more daft sendings off, or stupid wee fouls, then he&#8217;ll have the makings of a hell of a captain.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0On the appointment of Collins, Deila gave us his reasons, and showed that he has put a lot of thought into it. a level of clarification completely new to any football fan anywhere&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>&#8220;When I spoke with John, I understood he was the right one,&#8221; said the 38-year-old. &#8220;We started talking and didn&#8217;t stop for a long while. I think we are going to have a lot of good discussions.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;I love strong people. You really get real fights and arguments and that will make me better and it will make him better. At heart, we agree on football and I also love the standard he has about professionalism. His experience from Europe is also important and he is curious to learn.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;It is important to have a Scottish person beside me as he knows the players and the league as well as knowing the club inside-out.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Deila has also confirmed that Brown will remain in situ as club captain for the campaign ahead. &#8220;You never say something is forever but of course Scott is going to be the captain,&#8221; said the Celtic manager. &#8220;What I like about Scott is his professionalism. It is the same as John. They give 100% in every training session.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;On the pitch, when something is going wrong, Scott takes care of it and turns it around. That&#8217;s what you need from a captain. Passion is everything and Scott brings that to the team. You need players who can turn things around when it is going wrong. You need them to be hard mentally. I have heard about his sense of humour too, but<\/em><br \/>\n<em>I need to learn the language a little bit better first. For now, I will just laugh when the others laugh.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0And deal with the sackings later&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">Deila is fully aware that he might not inherit all of Lennons team. The rumour mill is already spinning with possible destinations for Virgil van Dijk, Fraser Forster and one or two others. Tottenham, for instance are reputedly ready to offer \u00a323.5m for those two and Adam Matthews, although there is no credible source for that one.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0The new boss dealt with the prospect of van Dijk moving swiftly;<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><em>&#8220;The day something comes to the office and it is real, we can talk about it, but<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I want to keep Virgil because he is a fantastic player,&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;He is a very important player for us to go into the Champions League with. I will do everything I can to keep him.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">And with Craig Gordon being offered a zero hours pay as you play deal-supposedly-does that mean Deila is resigned to Forster leaving-or will the ex-Hearts man be back up ?<\/p>\n<div id=\"post_message_15545630\"><em>&#8220;Of course they can be here together, \u00a0Craig has been a fantastic keeper. If he can handle the training, there is a good goalkeeper there and everyone has seen that. The medical staff are saying he can handle the training now. That&#8217;s important if he is going to go back to the same level, or maybe become even better.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0Although there has been a lot of criticism from some quarters-alright , from me-about bringing Craig Gordon to the club, Stevie Woods, the goalkeeping coach, is usually right about these things, so if he reckons he&#8217;s up to it, then so do I .<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0Craig Gordon was a superb keeper, so if the medical staff think he can handle the training&#8230;.oh, hang on. The amount of injuries there is at Celtic, Forrest, Boerrigter, Kayal, \u00a0etc, you&#8217;d think the doctors were on commission.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0I&#8217;m back to not being convinced again. However, if he does play, he&#8217;ll be Craig Gordon of Celtic, and until he flings a couple into the net, he&#8217;ll get my support.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0Deila says he will not be going back to Norway, and his old club, to look for players, as they are not &#8220;Champions League standard &#8220;<\/div>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com\/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQyKV6Afq5e4t8pY64NJNAIa0l8XUQ_4jXUtXmU_3w_Vz5H_Y_D\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0Instead, he will look to bring in more Scottish players&#8230;.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com\/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT3SXIDbKNXoipqltVr8iJUOzgme3UnFFVjYVRaaBFTOXfGzDo16A\" alt=\"\" \/><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\nCleverly, he&#8217;s set up a \u00a0later clash with Peter and the Purse Strings, which will involve him telling Lawwell that Scottish players aren&#8217;t any good either, after his team have won all their games 6-0 in the run up to Christmas&#8230;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0Whatever though, he&#8217;s here now, and the players will be reporting back soon for training. While everyone else is still on holidy, Watt made an appeal in the Record for a meet with the new boss;<\/div>\n<div>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\"><em>\u201cI\u2019ll need to speak to the new manager and see what he thinks.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\"><em>\u201cIf he doesn\u2019t like me and there are good options from Belgium then I would look at them because it\u2019s a nice league and I enjoyed my time there.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\"><em>\u201cIf I just get myself ready for next season then I\u2019ll be ready wherever the \u2028challenge lies. Hopefully it\u2019s at Celtic but if not then I\u2019ll need to wait and see.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\"><em>\u201cI heard there was a few Belgian teams interested and it was three good teams.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\"><em>\u201cBut for me it\u2019s Celtic first, that\u2019s where my heart is and I don\u2019t want to give up on my dreams too early. I need to go and speak to Deila and see what his ideas are.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\"><em>\u201cHopefully he likes me but if not then I would consider anything on the table from Belgium.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #2c2c2c;\"><em>\u201cThere has been good interest in me, so I must have been doing \u2028something right in the games I played there.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>Watt sounds like the sort of person who needs constant re assurance, and if he stays and succeeds the manager will have done very well. Of course, he might decide its not worth the effort. Watt needs to just calm down, and put the effort in training. The rest should fall into place&#8230;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Gossip now, and we hear that those lovable, helpful stewards at Celtic Park are having a bit of a tough time. With the queen due to make an appearance at Celtic Park for the Commonwealth game, there have been some strict security checks on the suitability of those who work at the ground, and perhaps not surprisingly, around half of them have failed&#8230;.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0Of course, we&#8217;ve all known that they are not capable of doing the job for a while now, and one wonders if they will be re-instated when the important people have all gone home, and its just us plebs who turn up every fortnight.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0Or maybe the club will take the hint, and look to improve the quality of those \u00a0who are there to improve the match day experience.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0We don&#8217;t expect the club to go public on this, but we&#8217;d love to know exactly why these stewards were deemed &#8220;unacceptable &#8221; to look after auld lizzie.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>And why they are just the ticket for guys like us.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0There was a timely boost for Englands players ahead of tonights crucial World Cup match against Uruguay when they realised they weren&#8217;t going to be the first country to get knocked out.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0That honour went to holders Spain and consequently Australia on the back of Chile winning 2-0 against the former masters of the game.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0When Celtic overcame Barcelona 2-1 a couple of years ago-it was in all the papers-it showed that the tiki taki system was by no means perfect. The system, operated by the Catalan giants and the Spanish national team is now pretty much defunct, and the hard working Chileans put the final nail into its coffin last night.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0Chile, incidentally , play a similar way to the ideas put forward by Ronny Deila, which should be interesting&#8230;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In other World cup news, the ballboy who was sacked after refusing to &#8220;go looking for that fecking one &#8221; after Wayne Rooneys corner the other day, will be taking his employers to court for unfair dismissal, but the chunky England striker has been cheered up by the news that his wife and kids will be flying out to join him in Brazil for the rest of Englands campaign, despite claims that its a bit far to go for a day trip.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0Roy Hodgson has declared that he hopes Englands campaign will take off after the group stages, and to be fair it will. Then it will land several hours later at Heathrow.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u00a0Back home, and over on the other side of the city, things don&#8217;t look too good for the spivs who are the current custodians of Scotlands newest and most troubled club.
