{"id":4148,"date":"2013-12-13T13:15:02","date_gmt":"2013-12-13T13:15:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/etims.net\/?p=4148"},"modified":"2013-12-13T13:36:56","modified_gmt":"2013-12-13T13:36:56","slug":"blame-catholic-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/etims.net\/?p=4148","title":{"rendered":"Blame Catholic Schools!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We here at Etims are man enough, and even woman enough depending on how many cocktails we sip, to admit it when we get something wrong.<\/p>\n<p>For years and years you have had to suffer us\u00a0 banging on about Catholic Schools in respect to the whole State School\u00a0and Scotlands Sectarian Shame debate.<\/p>\n<p>Well what do you know, we were wrong all this time.\u00a0 Hands-Up, E-ea Culpa and all that.<\/p>\n<p>We were incorrect.<\/p>\n<p>Foolishly, we were under the illusion that not only was it a fact that Catholic schools didnt\u00a0actively\u00a0encourage attending children to believe in\u00a0horrid ignorant self-loathing laden\u00a0sectarianism but that they <strong>ALSO<\/strong> gave a higher level of education too.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Today we have a Scottish Government commissioned\u00a0<strong><a title=\"Scotland's denominational schools 'do not cause sectarianism'\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-25363841\" target=\"_blank\">report<\/a> <\/strong>that confirms the\u00a0belief that Catholic schools <strong>DO NOT<\/strong> contribute to sectarianism ( we assume you can tell the difference between contribute and be the target or the excuse for sectarianism here) but sadly for us here at Etims, the report does not highlight any exceptional learning opportunities\u00a0 for Catholic School pupils and therefore we put our hands up and say fair dues.<\/p>\n<p>The report\u00a0as noted on\u00a0the <strong><a title=\"Scotland's denominational schools 'do not cause sectarianism\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-25363841\" target=\"_blank\">BBC<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>states <em>&#8216;Denominational schools are not the cause of sectarianism&#8217;.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The report then goes on to clarify &#8220;<em>We do not believe that sectarianism stems from, or is the responsibility of, denominational schooling, or, specifically, Catholic schools, nor that sectarianism would be eradicated by closing such institutions.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>It added: &#8220;<em>All schools should be encouraged to create imaginative anti-sectarian partnerships and develop opportunities for pupils to share classes and facilities.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The report does make interesting and welcome reading and quite a few cups of tea may be sprayed over keyboards in Scotland after certain mindsets read the key points.<\/p>\n<p>The report also includes a further clarification worth noting here :<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0&#8220;<em>What remains is largely the belief or perception that the &#8216;them&#8217; and &#8216;us&#8217; opposition is still alive and well and the negative consequences of that world view.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>Three assumptions need to be challenged: that sectarianism can simply be equated with overtly aggressive bigotry;
