\"\"<\/a>Since 1994 the Johannesburg CSC, have run a campaign to help out\u00a0disadvantaged youth throughout the African continent.\u00a0Over the last seven years we have been asking fellow CSC\u2019s to send us old\u00a0Celtic and football kit to be distributed to poor communities in Africa .\u00a0So far the response, in particular from our friends in North America, has been\u00a0outstanding and also Brian Wilson the Celtic Director.<\/p>\n

Our campaign is on two fronts.<\/p>\n

The first is to help out the \u2018township youth\u2019 of South Africa.<\/p>\n

We have formed a friendship with Bloemfontein Celtic, a S.A. Premier League\u00a0outfit who also wear the hoops.<\/p>\n

We have visited Bloemfontein Celtic and donated Celtic strips and football\u00a0equipment for distribution, through their community development schemes,\u00a0to the local kids and youth teams. These kids are from some of the poorest\u00a0communities in South African society and the gift of soccer kit and equipment\u00a0makes a real difference \u2013 especially in a country where football is the main sport,\u00a0played just about everywhere.<\/p>\n

The second part of the campaign is to help out children elsewhere in Africa.\u00a0Bill spends a great deal of time on business in sub-Saharan Africa, and has\u00a0been using these regular trips to distribute Celtic strips and soccer kit in countries\u00a0such as Burundi, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Sudan and the Democratic Republic of\u00a0Congo. As you may be aware, these African countries are just beginning to\u00a0recover from a decade of civil war and genocide.<\/p>\n

They are among some of the poorest people on the planet, living in countries\u00a0where whole communities have been scarred by the horrors of war.\u00a0Bill has forged links with local community and church groups up there and has\u00a0been sending kit their way for the last year.\u00a0To children and youth, emerging from a decade-long nightmare, kids who have
\nnever heard of Bart Simpson, McDonalds etc, these small donations make a real\u00a0difference, and allow communities to start up local village teams, soccer leagues\u00a0and so on. Every little bit does help.<\/p>\n

We feel that this campaign has two positives \u2013 as per our Social Charter we\u00a0are doing our bit by helping out poor communities, whilst contributing to the\u00a0development of community-based sports programmes.<\/p>\n

We are also promoting the Celtic name throughout the African continent<\/p>\n

For us to achieve these goals, we need the help of Celtic fans worldwide.<\/p>\n

From past experience, we have discovered that once Celtic Supporters club\u00a0together and start collecting Celtic strips and football equipment, great things can\u00a0be achieved.\u00a0They ask their members to look through their cupboards and dig out old Celtic\u00a0jerseys or shorts, old boots, balls, shinpads, training kit, etc.\u00a0Indeed we have received old kit donation from CSC\u2019s in USA, Canada Ireland,\u00a0Scotland, Australia ,New Zealand and Japan<\/p>\n

Please note that photographs of all distributions are sent to the relative donor .<\/p>\n

If any of the global Celtic family, whether CSC\u2019s or individual fans, could help in\u00a0collecting and posting us kit then we really could make a difference.\u00a0We will ensure that all donations are acknowledged on our website and we will\u00a0also post all press coverage and community feedback online.\u00a0We will also liaise with Parkhead, The Celtic View, etc, and will hopefully get\u00a0them to publicize the good work of those donating kit for the campaign.<\/p>\n
