Football finally returns, albeit just a friendly against Queens Park , this Friday night. with the clubs arranging a deal between them that will see young Celts turn out on loan for the spiders, it could be an added spur for the first team to hit the ground running lest they be refused admission to the team bus after the game, with their belongings forwarded via courier.<\/p>\n

By then, most of the new players marked for the hoops next season should be here, with two Japanese on their way, and frankly likely to find Celtic Park sooner than the lad from Fulham, who seems to have got on the wrong train at Euston.<\/p>\n

The players are already back in training, and it’s so far so good for Keiran Tierney, who has been eased into the schedule gently, to avoid injury. However, his programme will be stepped up this week and he will be expected to walk unaided from his car,<\/p>\n

Benjamin Nygren, of whom their are high hopes has been told to ignore any mutterings in German he hears, as the offender will soon be away , although it now appears Brentford are about to test his resolve to return to Germany with an offer that whilst financially rewarding, may not be enough to tempt the homesick winger,<\/p>\n

Nygren certainly looks the part, if you’re into this data driven lark, and to be fair Swedes tend to adapt better to Scottish culture better than most, so hopes are high.<\/p>\n

Along with Marda and Jota that looks like a very flexible front three.<\/p>\n

With the projects now more or less started, we can focus on the UCL qualifier, as long as we don’t get Maccabi Tel Aviv, because if we do, we should tell them to stuff it and withdraw from the competition.<\/p>\n

Which brings me to Glastonbury, and this weeks Knob of the Week.<\/p>\n

Yeah, I know it’s only Monday, but it would take a supreme act of knobbery to outdo Rod Stewart , the aging drunk who it seems no one has quite yet plucked up the courage to tell him enough is enough.<\/p>\n

Rod, who is still sulking because the Bay City Rollers thought of tartan as a gimmick before he did, has had a fairly successful musical career, with hits such as Do Ya Think I’m Sexy ? ( frankly, no ) Maggie May ( I think that should be her decision ) and I Don;t Want To Talk About It ( Well, shut up then )<\/p>\n

For some reason, he has endeared himself into a section of the supporters hearts, whilst openly admitting racism, Conservatism and now a new found love for Nigel Farage, who has promised to save the wealthy a few quid, presumably by taking the people from the boats and making them earn their keep in the employ of anyone who contributes to his, er , fighting fund.<\/p>\n

Of course, everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, and the way to a better society is through informed and reasoned debate, from which a conclusion can be made, usually through compromise, that makes everyone better off.<\/p>\n

And Rod, like everyone else, is entitled to him, and they are no more confused or ridiculous as any man of his age would offer.<\/p>\n

Then again, maybe he just likes to be popular, and whichever cause suits his own agenda will be the colours he wears…<\/p>\n

And , if you don’t count Donald Trump, they are usually harmless enough if you give them a cup of team and a picture book to play with.<\/p>\n

But when you involve others, by association, in public, you risk condemnation.<\/p>\n

And frankly, Stewart is out of order using our colours on stage whilst holding and publicising his own erratic ideas.<\/p>\n

I’m not quite sure why he would want his backing singers to wear Celtic colours.\u00a0 That’s kind of odd. Whilst I can understand some may find it alluring, I once suggested it to a lady and she said<\/p>\n

“Who do you want me to be ? Neil Lennon or John Hartson ? ”\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

but the real issue for me is that he is associating himself quite haevily with Celtic, then he kind of represents us, and with that comes a sense of responsibility.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The board are quick enough to tell us to behave and act as ambassadors when we travel to Europe with the club, so maybe it’s time to adapt a similar stance with the singer .<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And tell him to reign it in a bit.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It’s not funny any more.<\/p>\n
