There’s speculation that Celtic will announce a triple signing this week, which apparently sets out the clubs’s intentions for the forthcoming season. The original plan was to give each player one trophy from last season each and let them stand behind them for the photoshoot.<\/p>\n

First up is Ross Doohan, who made his full international debut last night for Scotland in a 4-0 win over a Penicuik Ladies Darts XI.<\/p>\n

Or someone like that.<\/p>\n

Doohan started his career at Celtic, went pretty much everywhere else and then came back after Scott Bain was told he could go. He’ll be third in line for the No.1 spot, though he looks a better bet than Bain, especially as he has been known to catch a cold.<\/p>\n

An interesting side note. Doohan is distantly related to James Doohan, who played Scotty in Star Trek, Well, he might be.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Second of the trio is Callum Osmand, a highly rated young forward from Fulham.<\/p>\n

In his first ever game at Craven Cottage he had a memorable outing, delivering a hat trick against\u00a0Tottenham Hotspur<\/a>‘s U21s in the final of the Premier\u00a0League Cup<\/span>\u00a0to lift the trophy.<\/em><\/p>\n

He was named PL2 Player of the Month for November last year and was shortlisted for Player of the Season, which went to\u00a0Manchester City<\/a>‘s Jahmai Simpson-Pusey who has turned out for\u00a0Pep Guardiola<\/a>‘s first team.<\/em><\/p>\n

Osmand was also capped for\u00a0England<\/a> at youth level before switching to do the same as a Welsh international.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

It makes the loss of Ben Doak and Daniel Cummings a little easier to bear knowing that Celtic are using the rules for their own benefit, and given the last time Fulham lost a starlet to the hoops, it worked out quite well, there seems to be a lot of sense in moving for players that want to come to the club.<\/p>\n

Last but not least is Keiran Tierney, who rejoins after his five year multi million pound loan to Arsenal.<\/p>\n

I suppose we’d better hope that Greg Taylor changes his mind about Greece….<\/p>\n

Lennon Miller made his debut for Scotland as well last night, with Luke McCowan beginning to wonder which lower league English side he should consider moving to if he wants an international career. Not that Miller is in England, of course, but that Steve Clarke doesn’t seem to like picking players with top level experience , opting instead for a selection of players who never have and never will achieve anything but dozens of caps which actually cheapen the honour.<\/p>\n

Miller is expected to leave Motherwell, and Celtic are interested, but would he be willing to fight for his place in the team when he could head to England’s Championship, earn more money and probably get around 100 Scottish caps.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Let’s hope so.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Former Celtic captain and midfield dynamo Scott Brown certainly hopes so…<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

You think, \u2018I can go to a Celtic and Rangers and I can break through there,’\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThe pay slip is probably about 10 times bigger as well at the same time.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWhat are the chances of you breaking through at a Rangers and Celtic? It\u2019s really, really hard. You\u2019ve got to be really special; Lennon is really special. You can see it with his quality going forward, his calmness on the ball, but also, nothing fazes him.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s talking in front of the press, he\u2019s happy as Larry. He probably goes home and plays the PlayStation.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cHe is really chilled, he\u2019s not a kind of big-time player.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Brown speaks like an old fashioned type of manager, one who would look at players before signing them, one who assesses their personality as well as their data.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

That’s a key element for any club, the personality and attitude of the player, as opposed to how many assists he made, or how far he can run.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Does his head drop when his side concedes ? How does he react to a particularly strong challenge ?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

One would think any manager would want to check that sort of thing for himself.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Mind you, I’m not quite sure why Brown mentioned “rangers ” as a possible destination. Even if they did somehow manage to find the money to buy him and to pay him, with the plucky newcomers already owned by catholics and having a keeper called Liam, a player called Lennon might just push them over the edge.<\/p>\n
