{"id":1852,"date":"2013-01-18T11:12:16","date_gmt":"2013-01-18T11:12:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/etims.net\/?p=1852"},"modified":"2013-01-18T11:17:06","modified_gmt":"2013-01-18T11:17:06","slug":"sean-fallon-r-i-p","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/etims.net\/?p=1852","title":{"rendered":"Sean Fallon R.I.P"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Celtic legend Sean Fallon has passed away aged 90.<\/p>\n<p>Fallon was a true Celtic great with a playing career with over 250 caps for Celtic which included \u00a0legendary games such as the 7-1 record defeat of Rangers in 1957 where Sean earned his nickname <em>The Iron Man<\/em>. \u00a0Sean made his debut in the 1950-51 season and helped celtic win the Scottish Cup, quoting<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><i>&#8220;As I walked off <a title=\"Hampden Park\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hampden_Park\">Hampden Park<\/a> I felt I had got everything out of life I had ever wanted. I had become a member of the famous Celtic Football Club and holder of a <a title=\"Scottish Cup\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Scottish_Cup\">Scottish Cup<\/a> badge all in one year.&#8221; &#8211; Sean Fallon 1951<\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Sean also scored in the 1953-54 Scottish Cup final, a year he helped Celtic win the double, \u00a0a season which saw Sean out-Peled &#8220;Escape to Victory&#8221; Pele by playing the last 20 minutes of a game with his broken collarbone in a sling. The captain of the side, Sean then handed that honour to one Jock Stein!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/etims.net\/?attachment_id=1859\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1859\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1859\" alt=\"sean-fallon-jock\" src=\"https:\/\/etims.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/sean-fallon-jock.jpg\" width=\"580\" height=\"326\" srcset=\"https:\/\/etims.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/sean-fallon-jock.jpg 580w, https:\/\/etims.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/sean-fallon-jock-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/etims.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/sean-fallon-jock-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Seans greatest contribution however was as Jock Steins right hand man \u00a0when moving into an assistant role \u00a0in 1965. The partnership elevated Celtic to worldwide fame and acclaim with the first European Cup win for a British side and 9 in a row title wins based on a group of players which Sean also helped bring and nurture at our club. Fallon also stepped in as \u00a0caretaker when Jock Stein suffered a terrible car crash in 1975.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/etims.net\/?attachment_id=1861\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1861\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1861\" alt=\"sean-90\" src=\"https:\/\/etims.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/sean-90.jpg\" width=\"400\" height=\"266\" srcset=\"https:\/\/etims.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/sean-90.jpg 400w, https:\/\/etims.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/sean-90-150x99.jpg 150w, https:\/\/etims.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/sean-90-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fallon was loved and respected by everyone at Celtic and was \u00a0chosen to unveil the recent championship flag and our thoughts go out to all his family and friends.<\/p>\n<p>Rest in \u00a0Peace Iron Man.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Celtic legend Sean Fallon has passed away aged 90.
