Livingston has been a tough place to go throughout the years and they will be wanting to get a result. Equally, we want to do more than get a result, we also want to put on a performance for the fans.”

I’m not sure if he’s trying to convince us, or himself.

The disappointment of failure in europe will have left the players feeling a bit flat. They will have had a rude awakening about the realities of top level football, and it’s up to all concerned to get back into their stride as quickly as possible.

The prospect of domestic fare until more or less this time next year won;t be thrilling for them, and it will be interesting to see f they can pick up the pieces and keep progressing.

Livingston away has been a bit of a nightmare over the last few seasons, but the players did seem to get a handle on it eventually, Celtic won 3-1 back in March after a succession of draws , with Maeda and Forrest goals sandwiching an own goal for the hoops.

James Forrest has come into the side and seems to have got his mojo back, and that can only be a bonus, as he’s been through the disappointment of European exits before.

Lots of times, come to think of it.

With Kyogo Fuhruhashi not delivering the goods, will he continue to be played in a supporting role with Georgios Giakoumakis as the target man ?

With Ange Postecoglou telling us he won’t alter the way we play and us all believing him, it’s curious to see one or two tweaks, such as Aron Mooy playing on the right against Shakhtar, largely to cover for the wandering Juranovic who seems to have lost a bit of discipline ( another clue ) but in fact merely getting in the way of the re-invigorated Forrest.

The manager has also said that the signings of Abildgaard and Bernebei were made with an eye on introducing them in the second half of the season, are we about to see another couple of, er, tweaks.

The idea we will play the same way is linked to the We Never Stop mantra, the reality is we will, and are making adjustments to the all out attacking style.

Had we ever been in a position to close out a game in Europe, we would have.

As I’ve said before, these things take time, and we will have to be patient,.

We’ve all got our own ideas on who we should play and how we should play them, but we need to remember there’s still a wee bit of trial and error, and we’re always going to have players off form or injured.

what our manager seems to be trying to do is cover all the bases, and that’s a lot of bases.

One or two replies on Twitter have suggested that the gates weren’t closed the other night after kick off against Shakhtar, but I’ve had a couple of messages suggesting that in fact it’s happened a couple of times.

John Paul Taylor hasn’t replied to the question yet, and there have been claims he didn’t reply the last time either when others complained.

But I’m sure he will.

Elsewhere, and the Scotsman says the Daily Mirror says that Celtuic and “rangers ” are being targeted by the European super League sides…those ones who wanted to break away from UEFA to set up their own league which would attract quite a bit of money, most likely at the expense of UEFA, which is why they went to court to stop them.

The Daily Mirror is claiming that the Glasgow duo may be approached by the principal clubs of the European Super League – Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus – as they are becoming increasingly frustrated by their breakaway battle from UEFA.

The aforementioned trio are locked in a court battle with European football’s governing body over its alleged control and monopoly of the game, with a verdict expected to be delivered in December.

Interestingly, Barcelona and Juventus are bith out of thius seasons Champions League, and Real Madrid haven’t had it all their way either.

However, the reports suggest that regardless of the outcome, the European Super League wants to press ahead with a breakaway league and could ask Celtic and Rangers to join due to their fanbase and marketability.
