I’d started swearing at him before he got to the Hibernian bit. Actually, it might not even have been Hibs’s turn to beat Celtic that day, but you get the point.

Another half arsed and predictable performance against “rangers ” saw Celtic escape from Ibrox with a 3-1 defeat at the weekend.

And I think there is a real danger that we are getting used to it by now. Not just the fans, but everyone connected with the club.

Mind you, the board are starting to fight back. They’ve banned Andy Walker.

The Sky Sports presenter, who often expresses opinions that maybe wind Celtic fans up a wee bit, has been told to stay away , with the Sun claiming its because he criticised the piss up in Dubai which led to players and management getting pissed and making arses of themselves.

Except for the non drinking French players, who caught Covid instead at a nightclub.

So we heard, anyway.

Incidentally, Walker is also banned from Ibrox after he criticised their unique financial arrangements, drawing attention to their habit of trading whilst insolvent.

It seems strange that of all the pain in the arse pundits out there, Walker is the one to be made an example of.

Or is it yet another Old firm venture ?

There’s talk of an invite winging its way toward Celtic and “rangers ” to join the English Premier League, a long held fantasy of the Celtic board, which has even been backed by Westminster, and despite the excitement caused by this possibility, surely its obvious this is just a ploy by unionist politicians to try to win a few votes from football fans by telling them what they think they want to hear ?

Of course, further down the line we’ll be told the police won’t have it, English clubs won’t have it and the two glasgow clubs will be painted in the same way the English clubs were who wanted to join the European super league, but by then the elections will be over.

There’s something more than a little hypocritical about wanting to join a British league for the money whilst condemning UEFA for making the UCL a virtual closed shop to prevent a real closed shop setting up…

The Scottish media, especially the BBC, will push the idea, as it helps the stricken club/company at Ibrox to avoid a financial meltdown, though it is quite amusing, and nauseating at the same time, to hear some of the praise given to the new world beating side put together on the other side of the river.

Liam MacLeod, who commentated on sundays game for Radio Scotland, was lucky to remian heard throughout a match that he seemed to spend a large portion of embedded squarely between the cheeks of Alan MacGregors arse, whilst his co commentator Stuart McCall , less fulsomely, granted, praised the new champions far beyond the reality of what has been a decent season for them, but simply would not have turned out the way it did if Celtic had at least looked interested.

Something went badly wrong at Celtic, and it’s worth maybe pausing a while to consider where the blame lies.

Not so much so we can point the finger, as we’d need an awful lot of fingers, but so we can avoid making the same mistakes again, and maybe even turn a negative into a positive.

We missed an opportunity in 2012 to clean up the game , and move Celtic forward as a club, which could well have dragged other clubs along in our slipstream, and its crucial that we don’t miss another one now.

Two things have to change, and it has to be real change.

Celtic have to change, and when that happens, Scottish football, and those who govern it, will be forced to change as well.

Dominic Mackay changed Scottish football, has he been hired to change football as well ?

Have Celtic finally woken up to the fact that someone, somewhere, is taking the piss out of us ?

You’d like to think so, but so far all we’ve seen is Andy Walker being told he’s got a few more weekends off…

Celtic is broadly made up of two parts.

The business, looked after by the board, and the football team, looked after by the manager. In an ideal world, both parts work together for the good of the whole.

At Celtic , that hasn’t happened. Not for a long time, and we’ve seen a collapse this season that is the end result of what has been a decade or so, at least , of wanton neglect.

Without googling, can you name the present board ?

It’s this lot…

Celtic PLC

The current directors of Celtic PLC are:

Ian Bankier Chairman ( Since 2011)

Peter Lawwell, Chief Executive (since 2003)

Chris McKay, Finance Director (Since 2016)

Tom E. The way the club is run.

Tomorrow, we’ll look into the management side of things on the field, or, if you like, the mismanagement, and see if we can work out where that went wrong.

Older readers may remember a newsreader, during the nineties, reading out the Celtic score one evening.. “Celtic 0, and they must be getting used…

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
