The EGM of the SPFL took place yesterday, and RIFC won SFA.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Only thirteen clubs voted in favour of an enquiry, considerably short of what was needed, despite mounting media pressure and all sorts of horses heads placed in beds, and that means we can now look forward to next season as soon as someone announces the end of this one.<\/p>\n

Thats the plan, at least.<\/p>\n

Neil Doncaster, who is hopeless at his job but has accepted that his remit is to do as the clubs tell him, said…<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has been a bruising few weeks not just for myself but for everyone involved in Scottish football. No-one has enjoyed all of the division which has occurred over the last two months.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cBut we made it clear we would respect the democratic process and result. The clubs gave a very clear message that they want all of our time and energy focussed on getting the game back to some semblance of normality, getting fans back in stadia as soon as is safely possible and to focus on savng the game.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s vitally important to all of us that we use this resounding result to find reconciliation and to save the game that we all love.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

The Teflon coated SPFL boss survived the shenanigans of 2011-12, and looks like he’ll survive this as well.<\/p>\n

In fairness, a full investigation could have gone back to those days of bullying and coercion, and that was probably what frightened not only Doncaster, but probably Peter Lawwell as well, who would also have found his coat on a shoogly peg, given the lie he told the Celtic AGM about who saw what emails and when…<\/p>\n

Make no mistake, there is a need to investigate the SPFL and the SFA but this is not the time nor the reason, and any investigation should be all encompassing all the way back to the days of EBTs…<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Perhaps the media will build on its new found enthusiasm for fair play and sporting integrity, but hopes are not high.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

But the storm is over for now, and the next big chuckle should come when “rangers ” ask for help from the SPFL…meaning the other clubs…when it comes to , lets say, the last Thursday in June when all the deferred wages have to be paid…if they’re still around then, that is.<\/p>\n

Incredibly, thirteen clubs voting for an investigation, not .as the media would have you believe a vote of no confidence in the SPFL, is a huge amount and demands action.<\/p>\n

Thirteen points difference in the league, of course, is next to nothing….<\/p>\n

As expected, those who are tired of the whinging and a-wailing took time out to gloat about the result.<\/p>\n

Radio Clyde, who broadcast the Superscoreboard phone in of an evening, held court to a number of distraught Ibrox fans, and more than one person heard their host claim that the defeat at the vote actually empowered “rangers “, though there was no explanation how…<\/p>\n

Still stuck in the late seventeenth century, they looked for ” escape goats “, and found what they needed on the board of Brechin city, who had spoken out against their crusade…<\/p>\n

Others in the support couldn’t quite spot a fake club twitter account, which isn;t surprising, as they have failed to spot a fake club for nearly a decade now…<\/p>\n

Fourteen points, which of course, would land the Ibrox company their first major trophy…<\/p>\n

It’s worth noting that “rangers ” released a statement after the votes were counted, and yet again, they proved that their self awareness is virtually non existent…<\/p>\n

And they should know all about a management culture that fears accountability and scrutiny….<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the other major protaganist in the fight against the SPFL was preparing to take the stand, largely because she forgot to order a seat…<\/p>\n

The media might well to choose to poke around in the debris of this particular issue, now that it’s all done and dusted.<\/p>\n

They might be surprised at what they find, but one can only be sceptical of their desire to chase this story through to the bitter end.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, the SFA have stayed absolutely quiet on the issue, which is what they do when their positions could be under threat, and for now, the power in Scottish football has shifted back to the clubs.<\/p>\n

As for “rangers “, a charge of disrepute should be made, but the SFa won;t issue one, probably becuase the “rangers” will now move to even more desperate measures to survive and fight against the inevitable ten in a row.<\/p>\n

So far, all of their plans have failed, and there is a fear that the next move may be even more disruptive and damaging to the game, since they have shown that they have no qualms about causing mayhem despite the extraordinary circumstances surrounding the sport, which will prompt the SFA to either subjugate themselves to the clubs, or attempt to strengthen their own position before the clubs finally wake up and decide they are not fit for purpose.<\/p>\n

Yesterday was just the beginning of a period of massive change in Scottish football. One where the importance of four “Old firm ” games to the tv contracts, and therefore the survival of some clubs must be weighed against the integrity of the sport itself.<\/p>\n

The first battle is over, but for now the ceasefire is only temporary.<\/p>\n
