{"id":13332,"date":"2018-09-03T09:31:46","date_gmt":"2018-09-03T08:31:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/etims.net\/?p=13332"},"modified":"2018-09-03T09:31:46","modified_gmt":"2018-09-03T08:31:46","slug":"celtic-diary-monday-september-3-petulance-public-safety-and-the-police","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/etims.net\/?p=13332","title":{"rendered":"Celtic Diary Monday September 3: Petulance, Public Safety and the Police"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve been told that the &#8220;rangers &#8221; are vastly improved, we&#8217;ve been reminded that that not only are they coming,\u00a0 journey is almost complete, yet yesterday I couldn&#8217;t help but wonder if we perhaps haven&#8217;t been fed one or two porkies.<\/p>\n<p>Celtic beat &#8220;rangers &#8221; 1-0 but the reality is it wasn&#8217;t any different from the heavy defeats inflicted on them last season.<\/p>\n<p>Alright, the scoreline may have made some think it was a close game, but it really wasn&#8217;t, and if thats all they have to offer, after another summer of investment, then it could be said that their current league position of seventh is actually flattering them somewhat.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s nothing to them. Nothing at all.<\/p>\n<p>And yet they still can&#8217;t see it.<\/p>\n<p>Their manager Steven Gerrard, looking a little shellshocked after the game, blamed the referee for not awarding a foul on Ryan Jack , who slipped after challenging with Tom Rogic for the ball-on the edge of the Celtic penalty box.<\/p>\n<p>Celts then broke away and with a few swift passes found Olivier Ntcham ready to score what proved to be the winner.<\/p>\n<p>Gerrard was raging. He probably still is.<\/p>\n<p><em>We\u2019re disappointed, it\u2019s our rivals and our first defeat together which will take a while to get over,\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Oh, you&#8217;ll get used to it.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI thought we were growing in the game in the second half.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The first time they ventured into Celtic&#8217;s half was when they lost possession and Celtic scored. After it all happened I pulled my senior players into the office and explained exactly where we were at. They respected it. I said \u2018You can now go, if you can get the move,\u2019.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThere is lots of integrity here with how we work. I understand the model at Celtic is very much about developing talents and moving them on.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cBut a lot of stuff was said that was not so nice and ironically, not true.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cMoussa has his move. He\u2019s happy. Deep down I know he\u2019s a good boy, he\u2019s done great for us here and I wish him all the very best with Lyon.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And that, as they say, is that.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a wee break now for international football. Which is still popular in some places.<\/p>\n<p>Time to regroup after a hectic few weeks, and to concentrate on the Europa campaign, and of course, the three domestic tournaments.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve seen Hearts turn out to be the surprise package so far, leading the table on maximum points , which includes a win over Celtic.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;rangers &#8221; and Aberdeen have stuttered, and if it wasn&#8217;t for the formers European run, they&#8217;d be looking for a new manager right now. Or at the very least screaming for one.<\/p>\n<p>Aberdeen seem to have reached their limit under Derek McInnes. They , too, have five points from four games, and have yet to play Celtic.<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;ll be looking for someone new soon. If they aren&#8217;t already.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On a serious note now, and something that demands urgent investigation, there was almost a tragedy at the game yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Police or stewards took the decision to close the gates in the Janefield Street underpass before kick off, which led to a situation where fans were worried they may be injured.<\/p>\n<p>Or worse.<\/p>\n<p>Celtic have released a statement.<\/p>\n<p><em>We are aware of the issues caused by congestion prior to kick-off. We are pleased that stewards and police were able to assist quickly and we thank our supporters for their patience shown while the matter was being dealt with.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>We will work closely with police to investigate and review this matter. The safety of our supporters will always be our priority.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Police Scotland have released a statement.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pbs.twimg.com\/media\/DmGnxYUXoAE5ABb.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>First things first.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, the amount of injuries was relatively low for the amount of supporters caught up in the confusion.<\/p>\n<p>However, the last people that Celtic should be investigating this with are the Police.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the Police statement, and the witness reports I&#8217;ve seen, the club should demand a full, independent investigation.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Nothing less will suffice. The Police must not be allowed to investigate the Police.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If there is one thing we have learned about our police, and their involvment with football supporters, especially Celtic supporters, its that they are not to be trusted.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore an outside body must be called in to conduct an investigation.<\/p>\n<p>We nearly had a major incident on our hands, that could have resulted in life changing injuries, or even death, and one feels that its only by the grace of God that didn&#8217;t happen.<\/p>\n<p>I wasn&#8217;t there, and I would appreciate anyone who was to record their own exepriences in the replies. Not only that, but people were allowed into the underpass only to find it closed. I witnessed young people being taken out of the crush in tears. Officers witnessed all this and did absolutely nothing at all other than argue with fans who asked them to do their job\u00a0<u><span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/u><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"TweetTextSize TweetTextSize--jumbo js-tweet-text tweet-text\" lang=\"en\" data-aria-label-part=\"0\"><em>Someone coming back from the crush told one of your officers that people were being crushed. Her reaction: nothing. When I asked why she wasn\u2019t reporting this her response was \u201cIt will be investigated afterwards\u201d. Shameful\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"TweetTextSize TweetTextSize--jumbo js-tweet-text tweet-text\" lang=\"en\" data-aria-label-part=\"0\"><em>Then, in one of the most stupid acts of policing I have ever witnessed, rather than opening the gates, you sent horses in to make people turn back against the approaching crowds, making the crush even more dangerous.
