A small measure of revenge was obtained on Saturday as West London Celtic Supporters Club beat Porto in the semi-final of the London Supporters League (LSL) Champion League. Having come third in the league phase, the Hoops had to face up to arch rivals Porto, who had finished second.<\/p>\n

The league match had been a tight, physical 0-0 draw, so another tough match was expected. Porto scored within 30 seconds of kick-off, so the Bhoys were on the back foot immediately. However, four first half goals from Jack Phillips twice, Ryan Meyler and Luke Strutt rained in making it look like a comfortable afternoon.<\/p>\n

Not to be; Porto snuck one back just before half time, and then the pressure was on. Midway through the second half and the scores were level; Porto were attacking in waves and the Celtic lads just couldn’t seem to keep hold of the ball. One late final save kept the Bhoys’ hopes alive and we were down to the dreaded penalties. 3 per team and then sudden death.<\/p>\n

Celtic captain Lloyd Paton scores the first , Porto level. Michael Phillips who had a pulled hamstring got his boots back on and smashed in the second for Celtic , then Michael Kelly pulls off a heroic save from Porto’s 2nd penalty . All that remains is one more goal, and it is smashed home by man of the match Ryan Meyler. Celtic 3 Porto 1, and the lads are in the final. Revenge for Seville!!<\/p>\n

The Bhoys now face Lazio in the final on 24 June. Lazio were top of the table in the group phase, but now must be fearing the resurgent Celtic.<\/p>\n

The LSL is a supporters based league here in London, where supporters of 8 teams have gotten together to play a Champions League tournament. The teams represented are: Celtic, Aston Villa, Fiorentina, Juventus, Lyon, Lazio, Porto and Roma. It is a nine-a side competition with all teams playing each other once; the top four then play off for the Champions League trophy.<\/p>\n

As said above, the final is on 24 June at Coman’s Fields near Russell Square. If you are in the area, please come along and cheer on the Bhoys.<\/p>\n
