Apologies again for the diary not appearing yesterday, and again its the same reason, this time i didn’t get up until a quarter to twelve, a sure sign that I should take up drinking again.<\/p>\n

Did I miss anything ?<\/p>\n

Well, probably the most significant development of Brendan Rodgers’s reign…<\/p>\n

CELTIC Football Club today announced that John Park has decided to leave the Club. John joined the Club in January 2007 and is leaving his position of Head of Football Development to move on to new challenges.<\/em><\/p>\n

Celtic Chairman, Ian Bankier, commented: “I thank John for his important contribution to the Club and, on behalf of the Board, give him our best wishes for the future. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

“The identification and development of players is a fundamental part of the Club\u2019s strategy and John has served the Club with distinction. The Club has commenced its search to appoint a successor to build on John\u2019s work here.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Celtic Chief Executive, Peter Lawwell, said: \u201cJohn has played a key role in the identification of some fantastic Celtic players over the years, players who have entertained the Celtic support and have gone on to have great careers with Celtic and beyond. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

“I would like to thank John for the excellent job he has done for the Club over the past nine years. I have enjoyed working with John and I am sorry that he has decided to move on. I wish John every success for the future.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Park was responsible for finding players who could do a job for Celtic with the minimum of outlay that had the ptoebntial to make the club millions. There’s no doubt it worked sometimes but when the priority is to make money, and not improve the team, then it will always mean that the system is more miss than hit, although when it did score a hit, the revenue received was fantastic. Often, though, those who missed, when added togehter, took a big chunk out of the profits, and its probably for the best that he moves on.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Especially as the manager seems to have his own ideas who to recruit, and doesn’t appear to be working under the same financial constraints as his predecessors. Its amazing how much influence you can gain by setting out your demands in the first few months of management, something Ronny Deila failed to do, and thats why he’s where he is now.<\/p>\n

Anyway, we wish him all the best, and good luck in whatever he decides to do next.<\/p>\n

As you are probably aware, there are some fairly incredible stories doing the rounds, ranging from a bit of bad news for Celtic to be revealed next wee-of which we are fairly certain, but have no idea what it might be-to the more fanciful claims from the more imaginative non-Celts on social media.<\/p>\n

Park leaving, for instance, is down to Celtic cutting costs ahead of a massive tax bill that may drive Celtic into administration, a theory , of course , which is encouraged by those who have already seen their club pass into administration and beyond.<\/p>\n

Trinity Mirror\u2019s decision to merge the Sunday Mail, Scotland\u2019s best-selling Sunday title, with the Daily Record will put 22 jobs at risk of redundancy.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Glasgow papers will have their news and features departments merged into one as Trinity Mirror looks to establish a seven-day news operation covering print and digital.<\/em><\/p>\n

Jobs will also be lost at Trinity Mirror\u2019s Glasgow based local newspaper titles.<\/em><\/p>\n

Editor Jim Wilson,\u00a0who left the Mail in August after seven\u00a0years<\/a>, is replaced by Brendan McGinty who will also serve as deputy to Record editor Murray Foote under the restructure.<\/em><\/p>\n

A Trinity Mirror spokesperson said: \u201cWe are seeing growth in digital and in our events and business division but like all publishers we are having to carefully manage costs.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are therefore merging the Daily Record and Sunday Mail into an integrated seven-day operation covering print and digital.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThis means the merger of the two separate news and features departments into one, along with the back bench news and sports.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cAs a result up to 15 jobs could be at risk at the Record and Mail, with a further seven in our Scottish regional titles.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cDaily Record editor Murray Foote will also be editor-in-chief of Scottish nationals with Brendan McGinty his deputy. Brendan will have the title of Sunday Mail editor.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

NUJ Scotland is understood to be in talks with Trinity Mirror about the restructure.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Sunday Mail sells an average of 183,532 copies a week while the Record sells 168,999 daily copies, the latest ABC figures show.<\/em><\/p>\n

Earlier this week, Press Gazette reported that\u00a0seven jobs were\u00a0at risk of redundancy at Trinity Mirror\u2019s London-based national titles<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

Although this next picture is a marvellously composed work of art from photoshop genius Cartuja, it serves as a reminder of the editorial theme that has cost the Record so many readers, and should also serve as a warning to other editors north of the border that working for the blue pound isn’t actually working.<\/p>\n

\"\"\u00a0then there’s the current spat between “rangers ” manager Mark Warburton and BT, which adds to the one between the club and the BBC,<\/p>\n

During their somewhat ludicrous story which implied that Celtic were responsible for some sort of tax ddge back in the O’Neill days, the paper actually printed the home address of CEO Peter Lawwell, which must surely mean that its time to call time on granting the paper any access to Celtic, i’ts employees and anyone else we can think of.<\/p>\n

\u00a0There’s a line that should not be crossed, and this time they have not only crossed it, but travelled far and beyond it.<\/p>\n

As yet, there’s been no sign of an apology, but its gone too far even for that.<\/p>\n

Banning the Record would send out a signal that their behaviour will not be tolerated, and should force other rags to behave themselves in a responsible manner.<\/p>\n

Away from all that, there’s a game today, against the enthusiastic and robust Motherwell. The pressure on the hoops mounted last night as the frsh and vibrant “rangers ” moved ominously into third, just four points behind Celtic, and those two games in hand aren’t points in the bag yet Timmy.<\/p>\n

Mikael Lustig is still in talks over a new deal, but he will take a break from that this afternoon, as with the Borussia game now only a few days away, Rodgers will want his strongest team to get some match practice together.<\/p>\n

Expect a line up of Gordon, Lustig , simunovic, Sviatchenko, Tierney, Brown , Biton, Forrest, Sinclair Rogic, Demebele.<\/p>\n

Or will he sacrifice Rogic to allow Griffiths and Dembele to show what they can do together… ?<\/p>\n

I think we’d all like to see that.<\/p>\n

With no diary this week, the extra day has meant that another twenty four hours for someone to outdo possibly the strongest ever contender for the Etims<\/p>\n
