Well, would you look at that ? In the Record..look at it, but don;t buy it. It only encourages them…
Dundee slap £1.5m price on Celtic target Jack Hendry as Hoops plot swoop for Dens Park defender
Celtic are understood to be planning an offer of around £800,000 for the 22-year-old.
We don’t need to do a compare and contrast here, do we ?
We could, though..
Rangers bid for Jordan Jones is too HIGH and he’s not worth half of £350k bid reckons Ayr boss Ian McCall
The Somerset Park gaffer thinks the Northern Ireland winger isn’t worth the big bucks and he would only pay £150,000 for him.
I think we know that the follow up story re Hendry will not be all about how he is being prevented from his dream move to Celtic, and how Dundee are holding Celtic to ransom.
Instead, we’ll hear about how Celtic are mopping up all the talent in Scottish football, weakening the opposition and will probably only send him out on loan anyway.
One of their sources, who presumably has an alcohol intake that makes our own pish stained rambler look positively temperate, claims..
“The manager is not looking for any offers for Jack but he is also realistic and he knows a number of clubs are circling, with Celtic being one of them.
“But if the numbers being talked about on the grape vine are accurate then Dundee will have no appetite to sell Jack at this stage. To put it bluntly, £800, 000 would be no-where near enough to get him. He’s worth a lot more than that to the manager and the club.”
Their mamanger is Neil McCann, and frankly, that should be enough for Celtic to tell Dundee to take it or leave it.
At about 10pm on the last day of the window.
It looks like Liam Henderson will be away. He’s impressed Bari of Serie A, and will go initially on loan until the end of the season, before signing a permanent deal if he impresses. He has already shown what he can do in a couple of bounce games, and its nice to see him putting some effort in and possibly realising his potential.
Those who have seen him in recent development games would agree that he needed something to rekindle his enthusiasm, as he had given up on it ever happening for him at Celtic.
Good luck to him.
Henderson joins Sviatchenko on the “could have made it ” list, and perhaps the size of the squad has meant we’ve lost a couple of players who are better than we have had the chance to see.
Young midfielder Mark Hill has also gone out on loan, joining St Mirren where he will feature alongsude Lewis Morgan, who was sent there on loan before he’d even been allocated a locker at Celtic.
Brendan Rodgers is now well into his fourth transfer window. Any excuses that this isn’t his team don;t count any more. After all, a sizeable amount of this team have been handed new contracts, which means technically he has signed them.
whats worrying is that he seems happy enough with a team that has reached a ceiling in that he cannot lift them to compete in europe, but is way ahead of the opposition domestically, a kind of limbo.
Serious investment is required in quality if Celtic are to move to the next level, but the manager seems happy to bring in prospects, develop them, and sell them on at a profit.
Whilst that is the basis of the clubs financial planning, there has to be at least some sort of progress on the field, and in this window , with the next UCL campaign in mind, it must be time to raise the quality of incoming players, still with a view to developing and selling, which would lead to greater success and a higher profile in Europe.
There is a certain level of repetition attached to the signing policy just now, and it can only take the club si far. whats needed are a couple of players, streetwise at a levek similar to Lennon, Lambert , Sutton Larsson et al to mke Celtic contenders on the bigger stage.
Trouble is, there isn;t as much profit in those, and there’s a nagging feeling that would go against the current agenda.
However, there are still two weeks to go, and maybe we’ll be surprised. But if allowing a “hungry ” experienced international defender to leave, to be replaced by a veteran who cannot even play in europe is how rodgers intends to fix the defence that looked lost in the UCL, then I fear the honeymoon is over.
Yesterday we asked you to tell us the odd ones out and why…
The three Celtic players have never won player of the month the rest have. Amazing to think that
Not really. Not in Scotland.
Back to a caption competition today…
