Celtic Diary Thursday March 23: United We Must Stand

After yesterdays piece asked for involvement of the Celtic Trust , the Celtic Supporters Association and the Resolution 12 guys to get together to plan for the , er, revelations of the next month or so, the general attitude was one of  support.

All it will take is a few phone calls or a few messages to get off the ground, and the wheels will begin to turn and the SFA will know that they aren’t going to get away with their actions of a few years ago.

Or inactions.

It depends how you look at it.

There will be more information released into the public domain after the next round of court cases, and when that information comes to light, a strategy must be in place to deal with it.

The more who are involved, the more chance there is of getting the right strategy in place.

Finally, paraphrasing  that old warmonger Churchill , it may not be the beginning of the end, but we are approaching the end of the beginning.

It’s not just about Resolution 12, its not just about the non payment of taxes, its about the entire business establishment in Scotland, and perhaps eventually it will lead to those who abused the system for so many years facing the consequences of their actions.

But only if we work together, and involve other supporters of other clubs.

What was interesting comes from the replies to the diary earlier in the week,

Hi

I dropped Neil Doncaster an email yesterday. See below:

Mr Doncaster

I would be interested to know whether any of the current members of the SPFL would fail the UEFA Financial Fair Play test and thus be barred from competing in any of next season’s European competitions.

This question applies to any of the teams currently playing in that division.

I look forward to your response.

Neil Doncaster

to me

Dear Jim,

Thanks for your email below.

UEFA Financial Fair Play is administered on UEFA’s behalf by the Scottish FA. You may therefore wish to direct your query to the Scottish FA.

Kind regards, Neil

Image result for washing hands

Thats fine…he wants nothing to do with it.

It also shows he has looked at his emails, and I can’t think for the life of me why he hasn’t denied the allegations of collusion and corruption he’s been asked to…

By the way, am i right in remembering that Stewart Regan has already said he’ll be passing the “rangers ” file to UEFa to ask them to rule on whether or not they’ll get a licence ?

I’ve tried to find out but can’t find the  story anywhere.

Anyone help ?

Something to think about, now, that should get the hackles up…from Barcabhoy , on Kerrydale Street.

Barcabhoy, as we have seen, was perhaps the first to mention the unique financial structure at Ibrox as far back as 2006.

In the extract below, from the Kerrydale Street site, he is answering a post from another user..

I think all involved will find it much easier not to consider title stripping than actually do so. By the time such a decision would be made we’d probably be winning or have won our 49th title and we’d automatically become Scotland’s most successful club considering they’d have won 48 outright and 1 shared (presuming the stripped ones weren’t awarded to us).

The outrage at such an act from both the media and the hordes is not something anyone would want to take on. The best we can do to punish them for their impudence is to win 10 in a row (or more) and overhaul the 54. That wouldn’t be satisfactory to most here but I think it’s the best we’ll get.[/quote]”

The reply, which had me reaching for the pitchfork and a bus timetable for the car park, was..

What Murray did wasn’t “Imprudence”

It was out and out cheating , and it went on for over a decade

Secondly “it’s the best we’ll get “

We aren’t getting anything. Nothing at all .

The cheating has gone unpunished, Murray has not had a sanction imposed on him or even had a charge to face. That’s a scandal. I don’t want any title awarded to us, although there is a case to do so.

I certainly though don’t want the records to show that the titles were won by a club who’s owner engaged in long term cheating to win those titles.

Why should Rangers be any different to Lance Armstrong , Juventus or Melbourne Storm. A cheat is a cheat and they can’t be allowed to get away with it.

I don’t blame the players, it really is little to do with them . Murray though knew exactly what he was doing and why. For Titles and financial gain. This wasn’t incidental benefit. This wasn’t some kind of unintended side effect. It wasn’t an accidental consequence

It was the entire purpose behind the use of EBT’s . To cheat, and more so to set out to cheat because Murray knew that he had to lie to HMRC and to the SFA and SPL .

In 2006 on this forum , I made what is generally accepted was the first comment anywhere on Rangers use of EBT’s and the need to have them investigated. The reason i commented then was because I was offered EBT’s for my business. I knew that in some settings they MAY be legal, but not in the setting where you had to provide side comfort letters .

Those letters were to persuade your employees that they could benefit from avoiding tax , but if there was a problem the company would pay the tax and they would never have to repay the loans.

I declined to use them as they seemed nothing more than a dodge which had deception at it’s core. My Finance Director said exactly that to me when he reported on what had been offered to my company . I doubt that any responsible finance director would not have waved a red flag all over these and even if he had been bulldozed by a headstrong and reckless Chairman to use them, he would insist on a provision on the balance sheet in the event it went wrong.

None of that happened at Rangers . Although they did go through a number of finance directors who left on a fairly regular basis.

So spare me the notion that it’s not something anyone wants to take on. It’s something we have to take on . Every club should take it on. Many clubs were cheated , not just Celtic. Many clubs lost £ Millions in prize money, because they were honest and played by the rules whilst Murray’s Rangers cheated their way to prize money and titles .

There’s still a long way to go if we are to see a clean and honest game in Scotland.

Image result for Time to prepare for war

Back at the ranch, and there were a few raised eyebrows when none of the Celtic contingent started for Scotland last night. Manager Gordon Strachan explained he’d rested them as they had a game last Sunday, which does make you wonder why he didn’t ask them to join the squad until after this one.

The ginger ninja went with the usual suspects who have performed so poorly of late, and they didn’t let him down, achieving a level of consistency that is beyond comparison in Scotland teams.

Still , you pick the same donkeys , they’ll take you at the same speed along the beach.

Canada were the opponents, and they took the lead early on with a goal from Fraser Aird, of Falkirk, suggesting that Strachan is looking at Championship football in the wrong country when it comes to picking his players.

Scotland did equalise, sending the crowd into raptures, well, maybe crowd is too strong a word, so a draw was about right.

Well, probably about right. I didn’t think Scotland were playing last night, and it was only when I turned the game on I realised I was right.

Although its still a way off, the media have begun their countdown to the Scottish Cup final, and for once, they are right about something.

Rangers record against Celtic in Scottish Cup semi-finals is

unbelievable but could be about to end

Absolutely, played one, won one-albeit on penalties, and for a club who started only five years ago, its an incredible achievement against the current five in a row champions, who have also made one World club final, two European cup finals-winning one, and a UEFA Cup final.

Oh wait…

Ibrox side haven’t lost against their bitter rivals in six encounters and almost 100 years but former Hoops star Joe Miller believes Brendan Rodgers’ side could be about to change all that.

Surely a wee error there..it should read..

An Ibrox side hasn’t lost against their Glasgow neighbours  in six encounters and almost 100 years but former Hoops star Joe Miller believes Brendan Rodgers’ side could be about to change all that.

Happy to help.

There was more general hilarity as Dave King , the man behind the current version of “rangers ” jetted into town to meet the new manager

There is no suggestion that the laundry behind him, clearly some kind of cruel joke, has anything to do with anything other than cleaning clothes, and not as some cruel japesters have suggested, its where they keep the cash.

Manager Pedro has him sussed though, intercepting a rather blatant attempt to nick the Portuguese fellows wallet to pay for the food.

Keep your eye on this one, Pedro, he’s reported to be a wee bit dodgy.

Dave, of course, always keeps his eye on new people. Well, one of them, anyway.

The clamour in the press to get Barry “Baz “Ferguson in as the number two-a fitting description if you ask me- reached a new high-or low, if you like-yesterday..

‘Barry Ferguson’s will to win is outrageous – he wouldn’t be daunted by joining Pedro Caixinha at Rangers’

Aye, its frightening-it doesn’t work-but its frightening

As of match played 25 February 2017[87]
Team Nat From To Record
G W D L Win %
Blackpool (interim) England January 2014 June 2014 20 3 5 12 15.00
Clyde Scotland June 2014 February 2017 118 46 22 50 38.98
Total 138 49 27 62 35.51

Scott Linton, Clyde’s “defender cum midfielder” speaks very highly of Baz in this Evening times puff piece.. well, they were certain to find someone if they looked hard enough..

I know the position that Clyde are in in the table at the moment doesn’t look fantastic. Anyone looking in from the outside might think Barry didn’t do a great job here

Those on the “inside ” weren’t too impressed either. Thats why he isn’t there any more.

“I thought: ‘If there’s anyone I am going to learn from it’s the ex-Scotland and ex-Rangers captain’.

Maybe he should get his agent to do his thinking for him.

Or his dog.

“The first thing that struck me about Barry when I started playing under him at Clyde was his sheer will to win. I always used to tell anyone who asked me what he was like was that it was just outrageous how much he wanted to win, to win anything.

Didn’t help him. He didn’t win anything. If he had, he’d have still been in a job.

the amount of hard work and effort he put in to bring Clyde success was incredible.

Perhaps football coaching and management just isn’t for him..so I guess it’s Ibrox then.

I accept that I seem to be in the minority but I cannot understand those who say they don’t want us awarded the EBT titles. If you went to games during that period you were effectively defrauded by Murrays “tax dodging all stars”. If some-one stole from you and it took ten years for the police to catch them you would still want your property returned not just taken of the thief ffs. All the leagues they won using players not paying tax were stolen from a club playing within the rules and indeed the law, I want justice done leagues re-assigned and cup victories stricken from the record.
This is not “punishing” poor oppressed rangers it is only applying fairness and justice.

Totally agree.

Simply stripping titles means their cheating has still been 50% successful ; as although they would no longer have the titles , they would have still prevented their rivals from winning them , so 50% win for them.
Only stripping titles , and then awarding them to the TRUE winners , renders their cheating 100% failure.
The titles themselves are NOT tainted ; it’s the action of awarding them to cheats that’s tainted.
The years Celtic finished second to their cheating ,Celtic were the true and rightful winners and deserve their titles as recognition of this. No “tainting” involved.
I find this “half” resolution of just stripping ,smacks almost of appeasement .

Ralph,
I’ve actually changed my stance on the stolen titles from their cheating years.
I now want every title we were ‘runners up’ in and every single fucking penny of prize money that went with them.
We played every game those seasons in full compliance of and fucking within the rule book.
The titles should be awarded to the runners up, for me it is that simple!
The Celtic support need to turn on our board with a ferocity not seen.
This is the time to deliver the blows not in 5 or 6 years time, fucking now.
You are right when you say plans must be in place.
The Celtic board need to start standing up for the club, tell the world we will NOT be cheated!
If they do not stand up on this issue the support must demand their immediate removal.

The best way to do this is hit them financially, the main supporters groups/associations must make it clear to the club, not one season ticket shall be purchased, not one item of official merchandise will be purchased from the superstore, online and other official outlets.
Boycott all home and away matches until the issue is publicly dealt with.

The time for accepting all the shit thrown at us has passed, it’s time to take action!

The problem at Celtic park at boardroom level, in my opinion, is that there is a collective apathy for fighting on the clubs behalf.
Fergus McCann and Q.C.Paul McBride were men who stood up for Celtic, why wouldn’t you fight for Celtic? Do the board think it’s not worth fighting for?
We all have our say on the unwashed club over the river, but they know how to treat those i the media who say things about them that they don’t like….they ban them and tell them to fuck off.
Why can Celtic not do that, or do the board think the Celtic get a fair press?

I want Celtic to remain a club that is close to the support in every way, i want us to stay in touch with our social mission, that means more to me than trebles and Euro nights.

We ARE dfferent to other clubs and other supporters, that must be maintained, raw and fresh.
But for the cub to be as one with the support, they must stand up for the club an it’s supporters.
The board are but custodians of the club, we are here for the club for life.

There is a need for board change at Celtic, some are getting cosy on the back of Rodgers appointment…..
There is a fight to be fought out there, we need people who want that fight.

It is one thing keeping a secret as a secret but by the time the SC has ruled on something then the can is well and truly opened and every one with a passing knowledge of football in Scotland will now the truth action will need to be taken even if purely for self-preservation by the authorities.

BARCABHOY may well be correct, but imo stripping the titles just at a time we will overtake them is the BEST form of punishment.

Take the old club down to 49. At best…

Take the new club down to zero.

Asterisk beside all trophies removed. A permanent reminder of how they cheated ALL of us.

Including themselves.

As for any prize money won,put in a claim to BDO. Redistribute any income from the claim evenly to all Scottish teams.

I don’t want their tainted titles,I certainly don’t think Celtic need their I’ll-gotten prize money. But I’m bloody sure I don’t want them keeping them either.

I’ve been of the opinion for some time now, that as a football club we should resign our position, if the sfa do not strip the titles from the cheats. Its that simple.
Should we continue to play in a league which has been shown to be corrupt. Or do we walk away.
I believe the time is right to force the hand of the sfa, bt sports sky and all the sponsors would be in a right mess,if Celtic suggested this course of action, and of course would highlight the cheating years for what they were.
Leagues, cups means fuck all,if bastards get away with cheating.
Take the morale stand, and to hell with the masons in the sfa.

The CSA and Celtic Trust are proper constituted bodies that have meetings, policies etc that are decided by their members and are not going to do anything just cause people are discussing it on a website.

If you’re a shareholder join the Trust, attend meetings and campaign to get them to adopt this as policy.

Similarly if you’re in a Supporters Club do the same with the Affiliation or CSA, although I’m not sure who the latter represents.

Anything else is just pissing in the wind.

Personally, although I’m not a member, I support the Trust, as they are the most progressive and were the prime movers of Safe Standing, Living Wage, supporter representation etc.

Their prime focus at the moment is on FAC and the Supporters Forum, which the board are once again trying to deceitfully derail.

These are the 2 most critical areas as far as I’m concerned and I fully support them in this.

Rebus, there comes a time when you have to stand up for what’s right. If you see cheating, and allow it you are just as bad as the cheat.
Belfast Celtic could have went on, they didn’t. Why because they put their team first. They saw that the establishment and those running football were not prepared
to protect their players and their club. They witnessed players and officials being attacked, and no further actions been taken. So they did the rightful thing.
Did Hearts have to play at least one game behind closed doors for the attack on Neil Lennon. Did the attacker even in full view of the cameras and crowd get punished, no is the answer.
Our club should have withdrew from the league, when Neil Lennon and Paul McBride were sent bullets through the post. But they didn’t,they made a noise nothing more nothing less. Yet they allow Police Scotland access to names and addresses of Supporters who do nothing more than voice their love and support for Celtic and Ireland.
Sir Robert Kelly threatened to walk away over the tri-colour, they backed down.
Fergus McCann wouldn’t let it go over Cadette,he won, again cheating by the masons.
This is worse than all of those, this is our club doing nothing to years of cheating,by a clubwho wanted us buried. For every fiver and all that.
Sorry, but I won’t be part of that, I thought the res12 guys would have got the backing, they didn’t. I knew deep down they wouldn’t. But was hopeful.
I won’t ge back again next season if Celtic as a club don’t do something to kill the lies of Sevco.Strip the titles and boot out the sfa masons once and for all.

Jimmy,

If Celtic quit the league, the cheats win. They will shed no tears. For the gesture to be effective around six or more of the SPL clubs would have to resign. I do not see that happening.
If Sevco are granted a licence this year, the top clubs in the SPL should object and petition UEFA with the real financial facts about that club.Celtic should be seeking support from the other clubs to expose the biased refs; the continuing home cup ties for Sevco; the governance of the game in general.
Celtic acting singly on any issue will be seen as an attack on Sevco from a biased club.
Maybe these things are happening behind closed doors, but, somehow, I doubt it.

Celtic and the board must take action regarding the bending of the rules to gain an advantage.
Since they died, teams throughout Scotland have benefited.
During the period of EBT s the clubs were stolen from by Murray and his men.
Agree with everyone that stripping titles alone is not sufficient, when someone is caught cheating the medals are then passed onto the next competitor.

I like the idea of people planning how to respond to the information that is about to come out, a knee jerk emotional rant might let some tension out but it wont hurt where it needs to hurt. The George Washington quote was most apt.The Resolution 12 guys and the others have kept the pressure up, sometime sit takes 30 years but you can make progress, from paramilitary to Statesman to use an example.
The thing I don’t get is this “won on the field” garbage. If a team bribes opposition players or a referee and wins matches “on the field”, that is won on the field but UEFA objected to that in e.g. Italy and and punished the clubs and withheld titles.

Some quite moving moments today, with different branches of the Christian faith all represented and speaking in glowing terms of the man who they came to mourn and pay respects to. The moment when Arlene Foster (a person that I see as a leading representative of the ancient dinosaur-denying no surrender sect that is Ulster Unionism) entered the Church and was given a round of applause was extremely humbling. I know normal service will be resumed tomorrow but can you imagine telling a young Martin McGuinness in the 60s or 70s that this would be the scenario for his final farewell? He would have died much earlier from laughter! RIP Martin.
