Celtic Diary Monday July 18: Same Bull , Different Season. Unless….

Not me personally, I mean. I’ll be going to work until Friday and then popping up to Glasgow for a weekend of debauchery, drink and devilment.

I mean the club.

Year after year we see the same pattern. Lots of wee tales about players coming in, followed by lots of tales about he we just missed out on them, and then the arrival of a few disinterested no marks who head straight for sickbay with an injury that was unknown to all except the club who dumped him on us.

We are told, ( though not this year, its more of a “lets hope they don’t notice “) that  if we get into the Champions League then we can buy players who will help us compete, but having not qualified now for a couple of years, that plan has never really been tested.

Thats a little harsh on the players who -if they did -got us there, who will find that having absorbed the pressure and dealt with the more than tricky games to get there, they will now no longer be needed. so, in fact, you can’t really blame them if they don’t approach these games with the fire burning and the passion raging. Truth is, you’ll be lucky if they remember to bring their boots.

And the “superstars ” who will come in to boost the squad ?

Well, Joe Allen excepted, are any of them worth racing down London Road to get into the game before the parking becomes impossible ?

Shane Duffy ? Isn’t he the guy out of Boyzone ?

Scott Sinclair ? Done nothing for years, but he is spending his life with Helen Flanagan, once of Coronation Street and probably on her way back to the show now they’re a couple of young lassies short. Fair enough though, with her in the house its probably a blessing he’s got the strength left to do anything other than lean against the wall and try to get his breath back.

Oddly enough, with my sciatica, I have to do a similar exercise in the morning. Perhaps she’s a sufferer as well.

Who else is there ? Oh, yeah. The Welsh right back, is it Gunther ?

The guy who crossed the ball for someone to head home in the Euros. I think thats him in the picture. He’s got a £1m release clause in his contract.

Great work by the agent. If a player goes for less than that these days he’s either been injured, already injured or going to hurt himself getting of the bus.

Anyone else you can think of ?

The lad Flanagan at Liverpool ? He’s managed a kick about with his mates on a pub car park recently, so he could be approaching full fitness at about the same time John collins gets anopther job in management, and I’ll avoid the jokes about signing Flanagan and Allen because in Lawwell and Bankier we’ve already got a music hall duo leading us on a merry song and dance.

Its beyond a joke now.

Same shit, different year.

There is talk that a number of deals will be concluded this week. Maybe there will, maybe there won’t.

If I’m completely honest, I’ve lost interest.

That may be that because for all the talk, there’s that horrible feeling that we’ve seen it all before.

I find it hard to believe that any negotiations with any top players have even taken place. The best we can hope for is a rising star , perhaps the best example of which is Dembele or Ajer , who thinks his career can afford to take time out in Glasgow to improve his game, get a bit of European experience and pick up a medal or two.

No ?

Okay, forget for a moment you are a Celtic fan.

You’ve just had a call from your agent, and there’s an offer on the table from Celtic.

The money is considerably less than you’ll get elsewhere, its always raining in Glasgow, usually freezing cold and raining, but you will be playing in Europe, possibly the champions League, and will maybe get the life sorting contract from an English club after you’ve done well.

Even though you’ve probably got one of them on the table already, and playing in England will get you noticed by a bigger club quicker. Especially if you play well against them.

But, champions League you say ? Thats something to think about. And guess what, the player-thats you in this scenario-decides to wait and see if Celtic qualify.

Why wouldn’t he ?

He’ll walk straight into the team, the hard work already done, and be heralded as some kind of a messiah by a support just happy that we’ve signed someone who has a better than average chance of apssing a medical.

Or, if Celtic don’t qualify, as is more likely, he’ll end up in England , on more money and not give it a second thought.

My point here ?

Well, its fairly simple.

There’s some talent in the squad as it stands. Quite a bit , as it happens, which maybe needs a little bit of experience to help it out.

Scott Brown and Emilio Izaguirre, arguably our two most experienced players arent going to fulfill that role. Izaguirre, isn’t the greatest of communicators, and Brown, well, he’s not risen to the captains role, with the exception of a couple of match winning stares and one time, standing in front of a player with his arms outstretched, which instantly elevated him to the status of legend.

Which he isn’t. There’s a chance he could redeem this, but on the evidence so far he’ll just wind a few opponents up, stare at them for a bit and do his impression of a collie dog chasing a bin bag on a beach.

Experience is needed.

This snippet in yesterdays Diary, reproduced here shows exactly what we are missing, and the more i think about it, the more we need this attitude , combined with this level of experience and achievement , at Celtic, if we are to make any sort of progress on the European stage.

Joe Allen remains a possibility, as does Kolo Toure, but its looking less likely as the month goes on. same with the other names mentioned, the most recent being Jerry St. Juste, a 19 year old centre half at Heerenveen, and a couple of Polish guys I saw on twitter but can’t be arsed looking for.

As ever, the board have sold us a pup.

We got the big name manager, who so far , in competitive games has managed a spot of damage limitation by keeping the score down in Gibraltar against a side who actually set out to do some damage limitation of their own.

By getting the manager in, and lifting the spirits of the support, desperate for some life to be breathed into the club, enough to sell some season books, is it job done for the board, conservative both in name and nature ?

Are we going to see the same old excuses and despairing last day moves all over again ?

Or are we going to get the Shane Duffys, the Scott Sinclair and whoever else the board can get, and try to convince us that the £5m or so spent has put us back in the big time ?

What we need is a Steven Gerrard. Or someone else of similar calibre, Kolo Toure , to be fair would do equally well, to come in and help a promising group of youngsters. There is potential in the team, a potential that could be nurtured and grown in such a way over the next few years that finally the club will have some stability, and not have to rebuild every year after someones head is turned south for two , three or even four times his wages.

Similar to the plan Ronny Deila had, but with quality players helping out where it matters, on the pitch, because from the games played so far, its perfectly clear that there is no leader on the field, no one who can make a difference.

This first became apparent when Patrick Roberts missed an open goal against “rangers ” last season , and there was no one there to put an arm around him and try to rebuild his confidence.

As a result, he was lost during the game, and if you remember, it was his lack of pressing the defender, that allowed the Ibrox club freedom to move tha ball around at the back.

Not his fault, because he’s just a kid, and there was no one there to offer encouragement, and to talk him through what must have been a shattering moment for him, which rendered him hopeless for the rest of the match.

Other youngsters are showing similar lapses in concentration, similar signs of wanting not to hide, but at the very least to become unnoticeable, and again, there is no one there to coax them out of their shells.

However, there is someone there to stare at anyone who kicks them, so thats useful.

We need a right back ?

Okay, Calum Paterson at Hearts.

A centre half ?

Any of those guys who played for Iceland. In fact, get them all in.

Though Kolo Toure would do for now, adding experience at the back. He’s not going to play every game, but it will still be more than Simunovic. And Eoghan O’Connell would benefit fro having him around, another player who like Dedryck Boyata , is more scared of doing wrong than trying to do right.

No wonder .

You’ve seen the shit Efe Ambrose gets from the support. Which has now transferred itself to a gleeful media, ready to pounce on any sign of disunity in the camp.

Steven Gerard in the middle, just prompting and encouraging the youngsters, telling them whether to run, or to pass, or to shoot. Litttle bits of help that are not there now. Even Scott Brown would benefit from this, if he’s still willing to learn.

Up front, there’s a few who could go on to be legends.

Griffiths in particular stands on the edge of a kingdom once dominated by Henrik Larsson, and he has the chance, and the ability and attitude, to claim the crown from the king of kings.

Even Nadir Ciftci, written off by many, looks a different player than the one who went out on loan to Turkey.

Thing is, the board aren’t going to lift us to the next level, its going to have to be us.

The support.

Especially on Wednesday.

The whole season could fall apart before its even begun, because as was shown in players attitudes last season, its very , very hard to get back on track and find enthusiasm  for the game after you’ve just been knocked out of the seasons biggest tournament.

By someone you hadn’t even heard of in a country you thought was part of another country.

Its not going to make you feel good, is it ?

As a support on Wednesday, we are going to have to go out and make the players feel good.

It’s that simple.

I think BR played it safe with his selection on Tuesday. Play the team which won us the league, with the addition of THE new signing.

Two goal victory,he can experiment in the next three games before the next qualifier.

It blew up in his face. As,I suspect, have the promises made re funding.

As you say,Ralph, this board is a disgrace. And frankly,so too are many of the players.

It seems pretty obvious that Dembele had in his contract that he would play in every Celtic match and always in the Centre Forward position. Can’t see any other reason for him to be doing so. 500,000 Quid well spent.

Agree with most of what you say Ralph, but surely BR must have some assurances regarding transfer money before he commuted to the club. I live in hope, but am also worried that it could be the same old story. HH

FFS Ralph! I was feeling quite cheery for a Monday, until now. (:

Nah. Listen. We’d all like to see some quality signings but – whilst it’s easy to blame the board – I think we’re kidding ourselves if we think we have the pulling power to attract any top tier footballer to come to Scotland, as things stand.

The FIFA co-efficient reflects the status of the SPL in the eyes of the world and – sadly – those statistics don’t really lie. In recent years, the chances of any Scottish side surviving in Europe past Xmas has become less & less & this is reflected in decades of abject failure at national level..

So, what are we supposed to do? Break the bank on a “marquee signing” who nobody else really wants , on a weekly wage which causes friction/jealously in the dressing room?

Our best hope is that we get very lucky and find somebody from a 2nd tier league who turns out to be a star (Lubo the 2nd). Failing that, we might have to grin & bear it with a couple of half-decent signings who – at their best – can just about cope at CL level.

Sure, you could argue a case that the board should gamble on qualifying for the CL group stages by investing heavily in the transfer market, but that doesn’t change the simple fact that the type of players we’d need to guarantee that, simple aren’t out there at a price & wage structure we can afford.

I even think it’s possible – with the right attitude & tactics – for us to qualify with the current squad, then use the allure of the CL to strengthen and – frankly – I’m not sure there is any other realistic option unless/until the current crop of youngsters all meet their potential a couple of years down the line.

Difficult to argue with Ralph’s comments, unfortunately it’s the reality of the environment we operate in. That is why we have been acquiring players from affordable markets and hoping they make the step up/and or improve to lift the level of the team and (the Holy Grail) sell if at a later date. This has always been the case, Celtic very rarely operate in the over inflated English market.
What is the attraction of playing in Scotland? ….. not much!

There is a major issue in Scottish football and has been for 20+ years NOT developing any/top players, players that move up the levels in Scotland and then onto England … this way every level gets a cash injection as these players progress and develop, the whole youth academy setup in this country is a white elephant all we are doing is stunting the development of these young players and stopping the cash injection into the lower levels.

Celtic are NOT CL level and will probably never be again until Scottish football makes sweeping chances …. Yes a good manager can build a resilient team and get some/limited success in the big cup …. But money rules and we (Celtic) have limited funds!

Blind faith or optimistic? … you decide … we all have dreams but remember that’s what they are … HAIL HAIL

P.S. the affordable markets and reducing on a daily basis because they are significantly better organised than the jokers @ Hampden.

Exactly Johnny, yet very few in the support are interested in the notion of greener pastures. We are a club that should be in a better league, and we are suffering year after year because we are not. We are dropping, and being allowed to drop, down to parochial standards.

I guess for many it is simply just better to sit and get the razor blades out, then try and encourage a move where the prospects are much better. Our own ancestors knew that moves were required when necessary – why cannot we?

ChrisBhoy

Ralph, you are absolutely correct.
For the past 4 years we have had great entertainment at the situation with Sevco and their supporters. Oh how we have laughed and scoffed jelly and ice cream at the way their gullible support could be continually duped and robbed by Whyte, Green and now King. How could one group of people be so thick. The latest laugh being Warbys non existent war chest.
Well Warby is spending the little bit he has on in our words Old hasbeens (some would say experienced seasoned professionals) Young free transfers from lower league teams (some would say eager your players desperate to improve and contribute)
So they are duped by their board and their transfer budget is non-existent

Lets look in the mirror

A board who continually deceive us and refuse to live up to the founding traditions of our club. ( Resolution 12, Minimum wage, Zero hours contract for “world class service”
Total failure to invest despite promises to us and Brendan.
Strikes me at this point Brendans war chest is as mythical as Warbys. They have achieved what they set out to do after finally getting rid of Ronnie. They produced Brendan, sold an extra 20,000 season books (which has easily financed Brendans arrival) So all the talk of Dermot putting his hand in his pocket and financing our new manager is pish.

In saying all that , of course the Tarrier Carrier will be there on Wednesday night so if any of the guys want to come along give me a call

Ha, Ha, FN brilliant response.

I think you’re saying what many/most of us feel in your post, Ralph. The contempt for the fans goes on from the boardroom, just as soon as the Season Tickets are sold. As long as the bean-counter is CEO, the fans, employees et al will be treated like shit. “They’ll get what they’re given, and like it”. PL has spoken.
If ever the WRONG person was in charge of Celtic FC, it’s Lawwell. Must say though that we’ve had shite in the boardroom for, what seems like, ever. Maybe even longer (as Spike would say).

Yes because the worlds moved on (apart from in the minds of sun readers and the like)

Imagine a young celtic supporting girl coming to this site for the first time and seeing that, think she’ll be back?

Do parents who want to bring their sons up to see females as equals and not sex objects want that kind of picture on a celtic supporters site?

I’m pretty sure the more intelligent contributors to this fourm would agree there is no place for that kind of picture on any celtic supporting website.

Here is a link to the everyday sexism website, have a read of the testimonies from women and young girls.
If you still can’t see why there is no place on the celtic diary webpage for that type of picture then i will leave you to wallow in your own ignorance.
Too the people who write the diary a question, would you post a racist picture? I doubt not, so why a sexist one?
Can’t you see it contributes to the general nastiness in society that females have too put up with?
Much the same as when the tabloids refer to immigrants as Human sewage and Rats this leads too attacks (verbal & violent) on immigrants.

Serioulsy its looks like a self fulfilling prophecy each season,no signings until CL qualification achieved..then we dont qualify and here we go again GRRRR!!

But then I look at other club s that do qualify with lower budgets than ours ie Malmo-Rosenburg-etc and think where are they signing these good players from ? with good technique etc.
With the bloated Sky cash available no more than a 2/3 hours drive south from Celtic Park-we will never compete with EPL wages-so why look there??

mike

Now I am really Depressed,an optimist by nature has just been kicked in the Nackas.
Calum Paterson at Hertz is as good if not better than Helens Bhoy, but he is not a European player according to some so therefore he must be pish.Well no he isnt he IMHO would be the kind of steely signing that we NEED.
Centre Backs must be Big and Strong and made of steel to compete in Scotia, not glass ankled Croations or Belgian pish because they play for Man.City or Zagreb,so fuckin what.
Brendans caught in the trap that I thought he would be,the players that he trusts are out of our price range,we cannot compete with the Championship far less the EPL. The good news is that we have some GREAT young talent to either trade or sell.
The Deadline day for C.L.signings is thursday at 11.00 pm.

The board have got the manager in and sold the season tickets. There will be no big signings.
Might make the Europe cup if lucky.
I hope I’m wrong but with the coefficient way of numbers this will be the last chance for a scottish team being seeded for the big cup.
Might as well start the plans for summer football, as the national team will not be near any big finals either.

With brendan rodgers being my first choice i was ecstatic at his apppoitment , heres a no nonsence manager who will demand money and play the young guys. My optomism suffered a bit of a blow with the team selection and tactics on gibralter and as each day goes by i cant help but have it in the back of my mind that all was not as it seemed. Ive been watching some of being liverpool and although he has shown a tough side for example threatning sterling with the next plane home if he spoke back again , he does come across as a bit of yes man (gulp) , as transfers arent materialising thrres a lot of oh well cant be helped… i watched a video of him yesterday which showed an interview on sky after he had left liverpool , they were asking about ballotelli and why he had said livrrpool def wouldnt be signing him only to be unveiling him weeks later. Rodgers replies because the scouting team and commity wanted him , it wasnt about me. They asked well couldnt you have put your foot down and refused it ? He says well i dont think i could have. Next question was so was it not you that signed liverpool players? He says im just a part of the decision , i have players in mind but if the people upstairs dont want them and i need a left back for example , im going to take the people they suggest rather than no one. Maybe thats how all clubs work but it doesnt bode well for us considering park and co’s players that have been identified in the past and the attitude of the board. Hopefully we do get a sinclair or allen in to prove whos running the show

Seems to me too many of our supporters are beginning to adopt ‘the peepul’ mentality. SPEND SPEND SPEND. BIG NAMES. We are playing in the sphell for gods sake. What would you have the board do, just go out splash the cash and then still end up with a load of overpaid dross. Personally I want to see us dominate our domestic game first and foremost and I would rather see us doing that with guys like Christie Henderson Tierney Armstrong etc. In Henderson we have one of the best homegrown midfielders I’ve seen in a long time. If signing a guy like Allen means Henderson gets shunted then I don’t want Allen. You need to get a grip, support the team and stop banging the same old drum about the board. It’s getting boring. Another thing I watched the Brendan Rodgers press conference when we just got him and no one from celtic mentioned anything about a specific transfer budget. It’s all been speculation. GET A GRIP

Yes the environment is factor and it is difficult to attract players to Scotland but this ahs been the worse pre-season for a while because of the lies spun by the corrupt, dishonest board. Your article is spot on. Except in mentioning Allen and Gerrard. this was paper talk possibly planted by someone at Celtic Park to deflect from doing nothing. The strategy ahs not changed the approach has not altered and Rodgers is as much a Yes man as Deila was, Big Peter is still in charge. Rodgers has never worked as a manager in complete control. Famously he worked in the committee at Liverpool and was supervised at SWansea. We will soon be aware that he is exactly the same as Deila and is in on the whole rip off, getting his 50 grand a week to deflect the shit-storm that is just about to unfold. I cannot believe that every single thing we were told was pure bullshit. ‘He will hit the ground running, he knows what he wants, the money is there’ Shite. two months he has been in the job and he is still playing Ambrose and Forrest, Even Brownn. If we are not careful we could be looking at playing catch-up to New Rangers, if they get a favourable result at Celtic Park in September. Look at the names being linked to us for the past two months. Allen, never ever was he going to come. Th erest are still without clubs. No one is interested. If they really were who we wanted why were they not signed 6 weeks ago. Snclair has been shite for more than a couple of years. He is a rebuilding job, an English James Forrest. What happened to Wisdom? He was touted for 3 million, about 2.5 million too much. i can’ believe that people are still saying well he has only been in the job two months, but has done nothing. Please do not tell me that one look at last years videos cannot tell any person interested in football that the squad is not good enough. We have needed a center-back for 6 months as Jozo is a light weight and will be lucky to play 20 games over the next three years. And now we are linked with injured players, rejects and ‘never made the grades’. but they were not telling us the truth when they wanted the cash. Brendan better enjoy his first few months in charge because the full misery along with the closed top tier will be with us before the snow. We need to wake up and start protesting against the bastards on the board immediately. Don’t wait until they are Champions. As the article said the next two weeks are our season, out of the CL before the middle of August is a huge psychological blow. Personally, I don’t think Rodgers will survive it. He will be working his ticket out of the door as soon as all he has to look forward to is the league. What is the point in paying the manager 2,25 million a season if he doesn’t have a team?

remember we have a Chairman who called the supporters ‘a disgrace’ and racists. We have a Tory Lord on the board who voted to reduce benefits for the most vulnerable in society. We gladly use zero hours contracts and refuse to pay a living wage. Exactly the practices you would expect if David Murray or Dave King were in charge. We are ran by scum. Does that make Celtic a scumbag football club? Some people would say Yes. the organisation’s practices are shameful and ignoring it makes us complicit. More needs to be done to remove these cancerous bastards from the club. they are bringing shame on Celtic. but not only that they are ripping off the supporters by repeatedly lying. Rangers died employing illegal financial strategies but they were trying to attract better players to win trophies. They were cheating us. Our own board are standing in the way of any improvement and have no ambition. They are also cheating us and those who work for Celtic. Save our Celts. Sack the Board. Before it is too late.

Hope I’m wrong but better players must be signed this week.

If it’s the same story every year you would think we would have a grasp of it by now. SMSM make up ‘pish’ about who CFC are signing, when the aforementioned player signs for another team, the SMSM have another story as regarding ‘such and such player, snubs Celtic’. BD is on record as saying “he has assessed the squad and there are areas he’s like to strengthen.” We all Know that ‘Beady Eyed Pete’ likes to wait until it’s decided which of the European competition we are competing in before investing, his ‘bonus’ depends on it. This site is a deeply depressing read – it you weren’t depressed before, then you would end up positively suicidal after reading through the Diary and the comments today. I’m not necessarily disputing the observations about the Board, absence of experienced signings, initial performances of BR and the team etc, but when it comes to it this week I can only agree with the comment:’As a support on Wednesday, we are going to have to go out and make the players feel good.

It’s that simple.’

If you believe that the club has no money to spend, then you are wrong, there has been at least 5 players who have left the wages bill,we have £1 mill. plus from Wanyamas sell on,we have 50,ooo ticket sales and the Championship games income perhaps 2/3 £mill.Plus all the shirt deals Sponsorship deals etc. That is one hoor of an income, the outlay for standing areas will not come close to that and bear in mind that Van Dykes sale did not show up in last years accounts. The only drawback is the £17 mill. Coop payback by July 2017? are they keeping the cash to pay a lump of that back and borrow the balance?
We have until thursday at 11.00pm to bring new players in for round 3 of the qualifiers, perhaps that might be time to bring in 1-3 players. The time to moan about the lack of signings is the end of August signing deadline not before, only then will we know if we have been shafted again.
Also if he pays £14 mill. for J.Allan, then wooft not worth it.

Where’s the caption competition? Don’t tell me there WAS a photo of Helen Flanagan wi’ nae knickers and you (for want of a better word 🙂 )- pulled it in fear of a feminist backlash?.

BTW Ian. Lighten up a bit. I can assure you my daughter would not be in the least bit offended by Ralph using that photo in order to make a joke. After all, nobody forced her into posing in such a provocative way (although that does conjure up other less acceptable visions, particularly if Ralph was doing the forcing). She would probably call Flanagan a stupid tart, or a talentless slut, but to imagine that with the current constant onslaught of far more pornographic and/or demeaning images of women around, even a feminist would know that there’s no point blaming the piano player (Ralph) for playing a tune readily available to the general public, even if some found a note jarring

Hiya Ian, I get where you are coming from, I consider myself a feminist, have 2 daughters. Sure the picture of that gal is rather provocative but is it demeaning to woman in general? I don’t think so but hay that just my opinion. In the context of her being a potential Celtic players partner, this being a football site and the witty remarks from Ralph I think its appropriate, its no her being a object, she is a healthy looking confident woman making I imagine her own choices in life, not I hope having a male moral censor. Anyway hope Celtic get a good result on Wednesday.

Greetings from NYC.

Ian,no,I didn’t “miss the point ”
as you put it.

I was making ‘the point’ that humour can offend anyone if they feel they are personally or morally attacked.
You,on the other hand, pretend to be offended on behalf of some unknown, teenage female who may be so outraged that they will never visit this site again!
I’m sure,in fact I’m positive that your a good man,but for god’s sake this is a fan site aimed at,but not exclusively,a predominately male audience.
I’m aware that there are many ghirls reading these comments but ,so far,not one has responded to back your stance, that’s telling me something.
Move on,you say.
I’m okay with that.
If the purpose of your original comment was to wind some people up then congratulations, well done.
Personally,I think you’ve embarrassed yourself.
Get my point?

Ian

100% not trying to wind people up. Get that its a joke just trying to make a point about the image adding to every day sexism, everydaysexism.com explain it better than an uneducated twat like me can.
A while ago someone made a racist joke/comment on here and were quite rightly put in their place by fellow posters and the diary decided not to delete the post as the response was important and they made clear this site is for anyone and they didn’t want anyone put off from coming here, that was my thinking behind saying a female might be put off by coming here. I’ve not seen anything from any females agreeing or disagreeing, prehaps they could give an opinion.

Myself and Ian (English spelling) have had a wee chat on here before. I have always maintained that the biggest problem is that many of us can joke about something without internalizing those thought processes and we can prevent them from defining us or shaping other parts of our psyche through compartmentalization.
Unfortunately (for us box thinkers) there are others out there who struggle with compartmentalization even at the simplest level and those are the individuals that take offense easily at a silly little quip. Essentially many of us can put a joke in a box and leave it there for what it is, while others allow a joke to be laid out in a wire allowing it to touch and shape other wires (thoughts and actions). So the wire thinkers get all up in arms while we box thinkers don’t see what a big deal everything is.
Neither way is right and neither is wrong, but be aware of the difference and don’t forget many of those wires carry emotional ammo (especially in women).

I agree with Ian. No sexism, homophobia racism on this site please. We have daughters and grand-daughters who might want to live and work in a more equal society. Now, laughing at Huns is a different thing. Why? Because it is alright to challenge bigotry and sectarianism and humour is a good way. I know people who support Rangers but aren’t Huns. They respect my religion (Catholic atheist) and my right to NOT go back to the country of my ancestors because the ‘famine’s over.’ It wasn’t a famine by the way, it was a deliberate starvation. We call it genocide today. That word wasn’t invented in 1848. Right on Monti, trailing at half time to the Red Imps is not as shameful as cheating and not paying taxes for nurses and teachers. This website is depressing (at times) as life often is. My challenge to Brendan Rodgers is to take the team as it is and get them playing to their potential. There is no sense in buying in more players who won’t add anything. We need backup at every position.
Gordon (Bailly)
Lustig (Janko)
Sviatchenko (Boyata) Simunovic (Ajer) Tierney (Izzy)
Roberts/Allan/Armstrong/McGregor
(Brown/Johansen/Rogic/Forrest/Mackay-Steven/Henderson
Dembele/Ciftci/Griffiths/Christie
We need: one or two centre backs
One marquee striker.
That’s all we really need folks!
We need the players we have, played in the right positions at the right tempo.
If Brendan is good at what he does, he can get this team (with a few new signings) into the CL and not embarrass ourselves. I think we have a team and a manager that could possibly win us the Europa League. We can criticise Lawwell and the Board but I am more concerned about our team on the pitch. Let’s begin (again) on Wed night and see what happens.

From the Glasgow East End Womans Aid website.

What we do
Our aim is the eradication of all forms of abuse towards women, children and young people and the structures that perpetuate them.

‘structures that perpetuate them’ is the key phrase.

Perhaps the diary could ask Glasgow East End Womans Aid what they think, if they say i should lighten up, chill out or enquire whether or not i’ve had sex, then i’ll shut up.
You should have their number as you donate to them.

Here is the thing Ian: This forum is attended by Celtic people who like to be here, some skulking zombies and some people who like to be pains in the arses and take the joy out of the world; we all have our reasons for being here.

No-one has to be here, and that includes you. Last I checked it still a relatively free country.

If you want to go over to some other websites where they display “hunks” feel free, and tell them they are sexist feel free. We know that those who choose this web forum are not perfect; least of all Ralph, but I suspect you are not perfect either.
You have been waiting for a chance to hit over the head the people who attend this forum with anything you could find, and you got your wee chance. Fine. Well and good. You’ve had yer wee shout. Is that the best you’ve got?

‘If you want to go over to some other websites where they display “hunks” feel free, and tell them they are sexist feel free.’
So because i don’t think picture is appropriate i’m gay? What an adult response.

‘You have been waiting for a chance to hit over the head the people who attend this forum with anything you could find, and you got your wee chance.’

How do you come to this conclusion? Based on what?

Sorry if my point of view threatens you (or your masculinity) i’m going to stick with it and continue to argue my point (with people who can argue).

Half_Fool

There is nothing that you can say or do that can threaten me ian. Obviously, we are having an argument or you wouldn’t be responding cretin.

The point is….is that you are a thin-skinned downer and a hypocrite with a non-Celtic agenda.

You have chosen to come here knowing the content and the “humour” that is enjoyed here. You should know that is a running dialogue between Celtic-minded adults. Yet, you come to pick at it – while at the same time in full knowledge that you are less then perfect your self.

I didn’t even insinuate you are gay – I am stating that you are an obnoxious hypocrite, who probably doesn’t set a uniform standard but have chosen to pick a fight.

Instead of coming on here to argue the toss, and btw I suspect most guys reading this scrolled by the offending (to some) pic.You should maybe pen a letter to Miss Flanagan herself in an attempt to educate her in to not allowing herself to be pictured in half naked poses that objectify women.and as you seem to suggest turn all men into slabbering perverts

There is nothing pornographic about that picture, or would you say the same about great artists from the past painting demurely possed ladies.
When one becomes fixated about an issue it can lead to dangerous thoughts and actions.
Agree with your suicidal thoughts Ralph, the team sorely la is a couple of leaders.
The board have had it easy since the demise of Rangers, but now is the time to act and ensure if not the Champions League then at least the Europa, also something called the treble!

I suspect, and of course I don’t know for sure that our would be messiah is actually the anti-christ who gets a percentage of player sales to supplement his wages. Hence why we are bringing is youngsters and trying to push them out front.
On the other hand I am willing to consider that he played the old guard to look at or highlight the issues in the team. Predominantly Nir Bitton slowing the game down to a snails pace while practicing ballet!
