Celtic Diary Monday May 23: Welcome To The Brendanbau

Celtics new manager, Brendan rodgers , will be introduced to the support this evening.

Welcome Brendan Rodgers to Paradise

From the official website;

IT’S the dawn of a new era as Brendan Rodgers is officially unveiled as Celtic manager this afternoon (Monday) at Paradise. And the new Celtic boss will meet supporters at 6pm at the stadium following his media conference.

The Irishman becomes the club’s 18th manager in its long and illustrious history, and is one that has excited Celtic fans. And as a lifelong Celtic supporter himself, it’s a dream come true for the 43-year-old.

Speaking after his appointment was announced on Friday afternoon, Brendan Rodgers said: “I will give my new role everything I have and do all I can to bring our supporters exciting, entertaining and winning football.

“The Club has been in magnificent shape in recent years and has collected silverware regularly during this time. My objective now, of course, is to continue this work, to keep us at the top and again make our mark in Europe.

“I know what a magnificent support Celtic enjoys and I can promise our fans one thing – that I will be doing everything I can to give you a team that you can be proud of and a team that delivers.

“I can’t wait to be in Paradise with our team and our fans as we all get to work.”

Paradise is the place to be today as Brendan Rodgers begins his reign as Celtic manager, and he will meet supporters at 6pm. There will be music on The Celtic Way from 4.30pm on what is sure to be a special day of celebration.

We need a song, and this one, shamelessly stolen from Hibernian fans, and adapted a wee bit by Celtic rock and roars on twitter, is as good as any;

Not that the main domestic challenge will come from Ibrox, nowhere near it in fact, but there does sem to be a little bit of competition as the Level 5 spinmasters attempt to keep their paymasters on the back pages.

So much so, in fact, that during tonights press conference , whilst paying due respect to the Warburton Wunderteam, Rodgers must lay down the law with journalists who attempt to steer the conversation down Kinning Park way.

All questions regarding the Ibrox club must be banned.

Any mention of them by a reporter , or any attempt to get Rodgers to comment on the aftermath of the Scottish cup final should see the reporter-and newspaper-concerned removed from the proceedings.

He’s there to talk about Celtic, his plans for Celtic, and possibly that accusation about a transgender partner, which if nothing else is intriguing.

Alright, not the transgender thing. It’s silly.

Captain Scott Brown is looking forward to what he calls a fresh start, and he echos the thoughts of supporters in this, who have picked up on a sense of anticipation not seen since the arrival of Martin O’Neill.

“‘I was in London when I heard and it’s great news. The lads are in a group chat and we speak quite a lot and we are all delighted with Brendan coming in.

“It will be a fresh start for everyone and everyone will have to prove their worth. It’s definitely exciting.

“The players he will attract will be huge and everyone seemed to love his coaching at Liverpool and Swansea, so it will be great for us to learn off him, as well.
“He has done really well with his previous clubs, almost winning the league at Liverpool, and he has Champions League experience. Hopefully, he comes here and we can continue to win leagues and cups and get into the Champions League. “People say we can’t afford the top players now, but we have just gone and got a top manager. He knows about the club which will help as he will understand what coming to a huge club with a big reputation is all about.

“I did come across him at Swansea when we played down there in a friendly and they were flying at the time.

“They played attacking, non-stop football which was good to watch and I’m sure the Swansea and Liverpool fans felt that, as well, and here’s hoping our fans will feel like that.  One of the reasons I came to Celtic was the fact there was a huge manager in charge who had done well down in England in Gordon Strachan. Now we have another huge manager who has done well down south and he will bring that enthusiasm and experience along with his style of play.

“Everyone knows that Celtic is a high-pressure job and all the other things comes with it, but he will know what that’s all about, having worked in a similar situation in Liverpool with that local rivalry with Everton, so that will be important for him.”
On loan striker Anthony Stokes seems a little revitalised by the move. After his cup winning performance against “rangers “, he feels he has staked a claim to be the partner to Leigh Griffiths next season, and although you’d kind of hope celtic were aiming a little higher, he maybe does have a point;

I have said since day one that I wanted to go back, I would love to play with Griff. The first season that Leigh and I played together we scored a barrowload. He came in for five or six months and he is someone that I really respect as a footballer.

“He is one of the best finishers that I have ever played with and I think we have showed already that we can link up well when we are out there together. He scored 40 goals this season – we could do a fair bit of damage with two of us up there.

“I think over two or three seasons if I am playing regularly then I will score 20 or above. If you are a striker at Celtic then that is the standard that you should be at and if you are going to play regularly up front for Celtic then you have to score at least 20 goals over the course of the season and I would always fancy myself to do that.

The scenes were very unsavoury, but as Alan Stubbs said he could understand the exucerberence but not excuse it. Enough said. The disturbing aspect of the “Rangers” statement is the use of “people”. They clearly are trying to stir the “peepil” with this shite which only a dim witted moron would actually believe. And there will be enough of them whipped into a frenzy because of this, in time for the coming summer marching season.

A blatant and shameful attempt to get into Europe through the back door.

2 lots of fans on the pitch and so far the majority of the pictures show Hibs fans, including a child, being attacked by huns who also assaulted a police horse FFS. Maybe the horse provoked them right enough.

Sectarian singing for 90 minutes and flares being let off by the orcs.

What are the authorities going to do about this?

I expect coverage of that garbage from the so called unbiased Scottishmedia.
We should ignore this mob mentality, city after city in Europw will be delighted at the outcome, the comparison towRds 1972 Barcelona bears no comparison, I was there doing the airport ground handling for the flights, this is noteworthy covering,
We should concentrate on the future which is bright,
Again I had a,bet on the Hibbees, as the magic hat burst a long time ago.
Motherwell last year in a pub in Ayr, Hibbees this year in a pub in Palma, great entertainment

He said ” you have to speak to the enemy big man, I’m a Raaanjuurs man”
WTF? I just laughed at the cunt. I don’t speak to them.
Leith was the place to be on Saturday and so glad we went down there.
The pub we went into was full of His fans but they were a wee bit quiet for my liking, let’s put it this way, I got they’re pub singing!
Great night and met a few new friends.

That statement was a belter , it was like a facebook rant from the sevco version of that mental killie fan , hard to believe this came from the club haha. We demand an sfa investigation. Aye we demand an sfa investigation to into years of corruption and blatent cheating to win 9 in a row! Notice the peeples statement forgot to mention them all chanting in unison about the feniens and hibs manager and the use of flares as well as confronting the hibs fans, funny that. Now they have petition saying hibs fans arent the type we need representing scottish football!. Msnchester?, villareal? . Haha couldnt make it up. Do t know about yous but i havnt had such a good laugh since they went out the game so keep the sevco stories coming ralph i love hearing about the deluded orcs and there wreckage of a club that is struggling to accept no one in scotland gives a fuck about them anymore hehe

Welcome to Celtic Brendan,i watched the interview on Cellic T.V,along with 10thousand others and a packed media room, with perhaps 40/50 inside he chaperoned by Bankier and Lawwell,he spoke very well and i did not hear anything raised that shoudnt have been (mind pesky phone call)he said the right things and handeled it very, very well.
He will take time to assess the current players, still try to develop the younger players and add to the team whereever required.Hail,Hail.

I like the fact that we wants a small squad, makes sense. Wage bill is smaller so that means we can pay more on better players coming in, keeps all the players happy because they are always getting a game and it gives our youth a chance too when a few players have injuries they can come in.
It’s so refreshing to listen to a manager that makes sense and who totally understands the club.

Ralph,

Early release today!

Well, well, well! What a difference a day makes as the old song says. On Saturday it appeared every Scottish football fan who had sense thought their dreams had come true i.e. they were the forgotten “peepil”. Then the gates of hell are opened once more to allow the torrent of unsupported accusations, the victimisation cards, brasen lies and hidden threats to gush forth from mouths that always have and always will believe they should never be silent. I can assure all of them, including the faceless Jabba whose autograph is written in invisible ink all over yesterday’s statement, I have felt the fear they talk of for 70 years and more at the very mention of the original or the new caramel fudge – see Worthers. My experience of them in their safeguarding mode was nothing short of terrifying. I witnessed the 1980 scenes and the fleeing hordes when faced with real fighters. Booting people when down or assaulting little kids is the extent of their bravery. Cowards at heart with a blue instead of yellow streak.

Now I know there are those who maintain we should leave them out of any discussions whether on here or anywhere else. Can I assure anyone of that mind I would love nothing more dearly. In 2012 I prayed they would disappear from God’s earth never to return. What a gullible old clown to think the Scottish hierarchy would ever allow such a thing. By doing so, they made it imperative that we continue to not only monitor but pursue the subversive behaviour of the club and its supporters whether they be football fans, governing bodies media or politicians. The reason we wake up every morning to more stories and comments about them in social media is because no other media is willing or has the guts to grasp the baton. Without taking hold no matter how hot, the race simply cannot be won and it desperately needs to be. Jon, yes it is “…the irony of this blog saying Qs about rangers should be banned when 50% of the diary everyday is filled with news pertaining to them. as someone who doesn’t give a shit about rangers it does my head in having to skip so much stuff every morning”. They and their co-conspirators make it so by their continued glossing of events both inside and outside the club. Be assured, Armageddon is a potential reality, as the prophet Regan foretold in some uncontrolled burp of wisdom. He just mistimed – a not uncommon trait of the man – the “when”. It was not in the departure of the original but in the creation of a new flavour that the destruction lies. He could have proved to be a man of great vision, if only he had looked with prudence at the agreements he drew up and surveyed the landscape he was creating, before stumbling down the mountain head. While they survive the future will be under constant threat and that is, for me at any rate, as good a reason as any to vigilantly track them on the social media radar.

Now to things Celtic. I give my unqualified support to Brendan Rogers. I am sure he cares a lot. Well, I did get an email from him and as much as I was tempted, I did keep my hand tightly on my wallet as I sniffed the hand of Peter in it somewhere. I hope he fulfills the promise everyone sees in him. I am a doubter but you will never hear me ask for his head no matter. I am not in the camp that lays all bets on his Celtic supporting and, even less, Irish background. I do not see these as absolute attributes of a Celtic manager. In the past there have been those with and without who delivered and failed to do so. I want him to be a strong, his own man with both the board and/or Peter Lawwell and/or Dermot Desmond and definitely with the players and to build a decent team. I said of Ronny Deila and I will say of Brendan, I think we are over-optimistic, if not foolish, to believe we ought to easily win a place in the group stages of the C.L. So, please let us not judge the man on the qualifiers. For God’s sake give him a chance. Like I said, I am not as yet convinced about him but I confess not to know who we could afford to bring in that is better qualified. I have to say, without Martin O’Neil to keep him firmly in check, I was almost as terrified of Keane being appointed as I am of The Rangers support. However, there is definitely a real breath of fresh air circulating around the Celtic blogs and the comments. It is additionally good to be alive in the football world this day in spite of the terrors surrounding us. A gut out of the squad, a few more young guns coming in and a couple of sound experienced players in the transfer market and my happy days could become heavenly, just like being in paradise.

Pensionerbhoy well said sir, your posts as always a joy to read.
Brendan will be the manager we have craved since Martin.
I believe this. A young squad he has but with a couple of tweaks here and there, and the squad should be able to get at least one go in the champions league over the next two years.
Good thing about Brendan he will change formations to suit.
Stubbsy showed on Saturday how easy it is to believe in your players to adapt to a change of tactic when required. Ronnie couldn’t do this. He didn’t have the tactical ability himself to believe it.
We had the players to beat Malmo, just didn’t gave the manager

I would not argue with any of that. One of Ronny’s biggest faults was his either reluctance or inability to see the desperate need for change in a game. His plan B would seem to have been plan 0. I also hope Brendan puts an end to this ridiculous rotation ideology. Managers like Benitez and many others, including Ronny, have taken what was originally meant to be replacements for injured players so that the teams were not disadvantaged in a game, to a circus level where squads are like a rafter of turkeys on stand-by in case the chick on the blind date does not turn up. Consistency must coincide with regularity. Successful teams – ours in the past and Barca, Real, PSG or Bayern today all play the same players regularly until they know each other without thinking. Our lot, especially the trillions in midfield, must be struggling to remember each other’s names never mind how they play and where. This simply has to stop. We need to get players playing regularly with each other and getting to know the capabilities of each and how he thinks and reacts. There were times when the Lions did not even need to look up to know exactly where a teammate was. I also would like Brendan to instill in the players the basic rule that what happens off the ball determines what will happen on it. Let the ball do the work but be ready at all times for what it will do either in attack or defence. I have to say, I was quite impressed by Brendan’s interpretation of how we should play in his interview on CTV. It is good to know someone is listening to me !!!

Thank you for your complementary words. It is all and overblown ego and a bloated swelled head like mine needed. However, we old fellas have few pleasures in life and just being acknowledged makes our day.

Reagan, Doncaster and Ogilvie campaigned for sevco to be in the top flight, they said it would increase publicity worldwide. Well they got their wish big time, Scottish football is making headlines again. The journalists will deflect the blame to the team in green and white as usual, playing the ‘both at fault’ and ‘as bad as each other’ cards. We’ve put up with this for generations. Hordes of huns rampage through the East End and Gallowgate while the police commend them for good behaviour, they riot every time they get beat in a big game and blame everyone and everthing else. They are the common denominator every time there is violence. They truly are Scotland’s Shame.

Glad to see Rodgers unveiled at Parkhead but, considering his opening games are a mix of CL qualifiers and the games against the worlds best, I want us to be patient with him. Quality teams aren’t put together in weeks.

Welcome Brendan, you can see your thrilled to be here, and will do all you can to be successful. A sense good times ahead.
Well couldn’t quite believe the way the bbc put their version of events on Saturday.
Hibs fans invaded the pitch attacking Rangers players and supporters.
Must have missed the zombie trying to grab a really young hibs fan.
Must have missed a Ranjerks blazer trying to kick young Henderson.
Must have missed the zombies flooding on and in packs attacking individual hibs fans.
Still maybe I’m just paranoid

Punish Hibs!, we are innocent!, demand independent inquiry!, double standards and deflection, they weren’t so happy to have all their shenanigans investigated when it came to EBTs and manipulation but they always were bad losers. Had to invade in 1965 when we won the LC and laps of honour were banned, they are always the Lowest Common Denominator when there is trouble. Of course this all helps to get Magic Hat off the hook, hardly any discussion about the actual game itself. Wish they would die and disappear for ever.

I have been saying ever since the huns died that when the time came and the new club made their way into the top tier that the filthy scum would have scores to settle and the match on Saturday is just the beginning. I have no doubt the people who live in the area around Easter Road are relieved Hibs never made it to the premier league as mayhem would have ensued in the streets when the scum visited. I await with trepidation their return to Celtic Park and am only too glad I will not be there to see it.

One thing for sure, you will never find out from the Scottish media. They saw nuffin except at the Celtic – oh sorry! their mistake – Hibs end. By the way, you do know the smokies were thrown in by Celtic fans as they passed Hampden and caused such fear and mahem, there are now hundreds of Sevco fans in intensive care for trauma and burns. I myself think the causes are a combination of over a decade of gullibleness and a lifetime of blazing fury.

The Hibs went over the top in their thousands?
They ran towards the Rangers end, attacked the players, and goaded and taunted the Rangers fans.
A tiny minority of our fans ran on to protect their players from more beatings.
Geez it is shameful, and no wonder no one put their name to it.
Over the top, they ran onto a football pitch in celebration, after waiting 114 years. Not the Somme Ffs
This wasn’t a battlefield it was a football pitch.
They came onto the pitch, the gallant few,to protect, aye right.
Out of the Thousands that came onto the pitch, how many actually went up to their end. Not many I could see, the rest were just happy to be on the pitch of their greatest triumph for 114 years.
So it was a minority of both sets of fans who shamed their clubs, not the thousands who went onto the pitch, or the ones who remained in the stands.
Biggest cunt of all is of course the guy trying to grab the kid shocking.

Having been in Edinburgh since Thursday and talking to a number of fans who were there (Hibs, Celtic and even 1 Hearts fan); I have to say this is probably the most truthful piece written on this that I have read so far. Yes there were a small number of Hibs fans that goaded the Hard, done-by, revenge seeking Hoonz (HDRSH), but the reaction of a couple hundred HDRSH with pure unadulterated violence was completely uncalled for.
What concerns me more however has been the presence of Police Scotland in and around the Old Town of Edinburgh. Hardly a single one Thursday, Friday & Sat, but holy crap they are everywhere since, not quite on every corner, but getting close documenting every working class person wearing green and white in their little black books. Having been away for a while I have to admit I didn’t really believe how bad things had gotten, but now my eyes have been opened.

Delbhoy, the problem was Peter kept telling Dermot, everything was OK. The titles were being won and we were in a good way financially.
What turned it on its head, was the way their directors reacted in the main stand at the semi. Their lack of class was an eye opener for Dermot, and their hatred of Celtic, and all we stood for, he was not going to walk away from this.
He got hold of Lawwell and tore him to shreds, hence a private firm was involved in the selection process, with Brendan top of the list.
The downsizing is over, dominance will come, and the laughter of our children will be our victory.

I have been in the old town and saw them down Grass Market (2 cars), Hunter Square for over an hour documenting a group of Hibs supporters, through Waverly station there were triple the number compared to Thursday when I arrived and Friday when my mother arrived. I was much impressed with the comments coming from Brendan,ok its still much to early to judge but.Im here for the long haul(12 month rolling contract aside),speaks volumes.I want to work with a smaller squad,is good news, freeing up salaries and providing funds,i like to vary my tactics to suite the circumstances, shows a tactical knowledge, missing from the past.I will add 2/3 better qualility players to the team, recognizes whats been missing. My dialogue with Dermot, convinced me to come shows a closeness to the power source.Well done to Dermot for acknowledging and acting on the necessary change that has been required.
Tomorrow the Res12 ads come out watch the lack of acknowledgement from the Scottish Media and more deflection,Fuck them we will never give up on this.
Justice for the TIC.WE will overcome there bigotry and ignorance.
