Celtic Diary Wednesday May 4: It’s All Good. No. Really, It Is.

Ann Budge, who’s in charge over at Hearts, has offered an explanation as to why a number of Celtic fans were locked out at Tynecastle on Saturday;

“We’ve almost finished the investigation and I’ve undertaken to go back to them to explain what happened and why it happened,” said Budge. “I’ve seen the tickets and they’re very difficult to identify and we’ll have to work out what we’re going to do about it. I think in the last Celtic game we had a touch of it as well.

“I very much sympathise with those that had a genuine ticket. I can understand exactly how they feel and why they should feel aggrieved. Equally, we can’t let more people into the stadium for safety reasons. The stadium was closed because we had filled the capacity.”

May I humbly suggest that I don’t believe a word of it ?

If someone was capable of printing forgeries of a standard where I couldn’t tell the difference  to an event hosted at my club I know what my priority would be, and I know that the police, under normal circumstances, would be especially keen to track down the source.

Notice she mentions it happened at a previous Celtic game as well…

So , there’s a forger in Glasgow who can do perfect copies of match day tickets ?

Well, that could explain this….

Celtic halt price hike on season tickets as reward for supporters

Alright . it’s in the sun, so there might be nothing in it, but a positive Celtic story ? Thats always worth looking into.

CELTIC are set to freeze season-ticket prices for next season as a reward to fans.

The Premiership champions were expected to raise prices following Rangers’ promotion.

But SunSport understands club chiefs have been working to keep them as they are

The club slashed season-ticket prices when Gers dropped out of the top flight four years ago.

Dropped out of existence, surely?

The deal means the cheapest £416 brief will still be £50 LESS than in 2012.

Celts will also have a safe standing area next term.

There’s talk of a safe standing area for journalists as well…

Its been a busy few days for the board, by the sound of it.

First we had the frantic sale of even more space on the shirt, now the freeze on season book prices, the latter can be commended, but you’ll note the kids ticket and the issue of whether or not it will be inclusive of “rangers ” games is not mentioned, so as usual it will be the stroke with one hand sting with the other approach.

In fairness, though, I didn’t take any of my kids to watch the original club, and I’d not be overly enthused at letting them near to the chaos that will surround the first few meetings with the new club.

On the other hand, however, the younger support needs to be encouraged, and they need to be given a reason to attend games, and whichever way you look at it, the atmosphere at the games against the Ibrox club will be a notch up from the others.

It’s a difficult one, though I’d be edging slightly to keeping the kids tickets at £50. and including it, with the possibility of an upgrade if a parent doesn’t want to risk taking their child.

Wouldn’t that make most people happy ?

Jamie Vardy made a lot of people in Leicester happy this season, his goal scoring exploits helping to make the midlands club win the English league, becoming the first team outside the big four to win it since blackburn self destructed after  the effort.

He also made a few Celtic fans chuckle yesterday as well, with this now deleted tweet;

With the inevitable clean out at Celtic Park just a few weeks away, the stories have started again. However, this time, two of the players most likely to attract attention whom the support would rather didn’t , have spoken of their desire to stay;

Leigh Griffiths: I want to be a Celt for life

This is my dream club

Hang on, thats from the sun as well..whats going on ?

Griffiths said;

“I signed a five-year deal in December and I wouldn’t have signed it if I wanted to move clubs.

“I’ll be 30 when my contract ends and, as Kieran said, if he could finish his career here he’d be happy and if I could finish mine here I’d be happy too.

“Why would you want to leave Celtic? It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world. My all-round game’s got better, I’m not selfish any more.

Keiran said that as well ?

Yup…

“Celtic is my dream club . I have been here for 11 years and I am playing first-team football for the club I grew up supporting.

“I’m loving every minute of it. I tend not to look at stories about me too much, although sometimes you cannot avoid it. I’ve been linked with big clubs but it’s just Celtic for me.

“Like I say, it’s the dream. I’ve probably used the word dream a lot this season, but it really is for me to be playing in the first-team at Celtic.

“I need to realise how lucky I am to be in this position and I try my best every day to be so grateful for it. When you are a wee guy, you want to grow up and become a Celtic legend.

“Obviously, I am miles off that just now because my career has only just started. I just hope I can keep on playing for Celtic. That’s all I want.”

Add that attitude to the vibes eminating from some of the others, such as Erik Svaitchenko and the potential in the Rogics, Armstrongs, Allan’s and Christie’s, and the incoming Ajer, all ( bar rogic ) on long term deals, then the new mamanger has something he can work with.

He won’t be working with Nadir Ciftci, who wants to stay in turkey, and there are a number of others who will be moved on. If there is movement before the new man is announced, then we will know he’s already making decisions.

And despite the speculation, it will be a major surprise f its anyone other than Keane, with Martin O’Neill probably supervising.

One thing the new manager can be sure of is the attitude and hunger of Leigh Griffiths, who won’t throw a tantrum if he isn’t an immediate favourite-not that he shouldn’t be.

“I had to wait for my chance under Ronny Deila, five months, and after that I never looked back.

“I’m not going to be too downhearted if the new manager comes in and doesn’t fancy me at first because I know I had to wait my turn with Ronny. If that happens then I’ll just need to keep my head down and work hard to pave my way back into the team.

When Henrik Larsson, the last great striker we had at the club was in the team, you always felt you had a chance, no mattr who you were up against. Griffiths isn’t at that level, not yet, but there is a real feeling that he can get there.

Not least from the player himself.

susan murphy roared back with another caption to narrowly win yesterday, claiming the concept atomic train from 1960 was , in fact, Thomas the Tank Engine out on the pull on a Friday.

Today, well, sorry for putting you off your breakfast, but its the perma tanned pensioner himself, and what is he doing ?

In terms of the ST sales and prices, I know directly from PL that there will no increase in adult ST prices this season and I think the club need to be commended for that as it would have benn very easy to raise prices to 2012/13 levels.

Re child STs, when these were introduced a number of years ago, they were £50 for ST but NOT sell out league games, e.g. Rangers. Tickets for those games had to be purchased seperately. This was amemded when Rangers disappeared and it is my understanding they will go back to that for next season and tickets for Rangers games can still be bought at child prices. If you think about it, we will still get kids ST for 17 league games and 2 friendlies (18 if Rangers don’t make the top 6) for £50. That is £2.63 per game. where can you get any child activity for 2-hrs for that price, even a swim is at least a fiver these days so I think we should all stop moaning about it.

Mecca,
My feelings exactly, Lawwell is doing his pull the wool over the fans eyes bit again, it’s all fucking shite.
His face at Tynecastle said it all, he knows he has fucked up by appointing Deila, resolution 12, living wage, passing info to Police Scotland etc, etc… He can get to fuck as far as I’m concerned, each day passes, no new manager announced, it is a fucking shambles of a situation.
The only thing Lawwell is interested in is his fucking bonus, it’s certainly not our supporters.
We need this clown out of our club!

The season books are the same price because a low-key appointment is almost guaranteed. Martin O’Neill is not coming back to Celtic Park. And this acting as an advisor to Roy Keane (please NO) has Barnes /Dalglish written all over it. Paul Lambert is a shoe-in. hence most games will be attended by about 25-30,000 except games against them when the Celtic support will somehow get it together to find Celtic Park. The guys running the show are hopeless and clueless. They have no idea the damage they are inflicting and will inflict on the club in the coming seasons. The next manager is very important but they will appoint on the cheap. There are very good candidates out there but they will demand autonomy and money. I am not saying they would accept it but guys like Di Matteo and Hiddink are available. they would be approached if the guys in charge were serious but they won’t be therefore get your 500 quid out for the next Tony Mowbray. They are getting no more of my cash

John don’t give up on the club m8,it is better to fight within than from out. We get rid of the dead wood appoint a decent manager, and by the way I think Lambert would be a good manager. We have to be strong, the media want to gloat in them getting more season books than us, yes I’m saddened by all that’s gone on and going on. Res 12 has to be addressed, but we need to stay together. The club has to stand beside us,and move forward as one.

Looking forward to getting home on Friday, and Celtic park on Saturday. Safe standing, freeze on ticket prices, more coffers through advertising,a new manager, all looking good to get to 10 in a row. If only that was all that was going on eh.
Only I really feel lost. I want the board the players the fans to unite as one. God knows the media do a great job in getting us to divide, with the bullshit they print.
Sure we disagree,on what’s the best way forward, for our club.
But I don’t think I’ve been this saddened at what’s going on,in my lifetime. I was there at the Celts for change,it was critical that we got the old board removed, they were sinking us.
But this is different somehow. I can’t put my finger on it,but this is more than saving our club, this is about saving our soul, but also ensuring our club has soul.
Peter Lawwell I thought was one of us,I looked at how the stadium has been brilliantly moved on,since it’s redevelopment.
The Celtic walkway amazing.
But then the decisions to downsize, all major players up for sale,a manager the cheapest option, when we could have had so much better. The Res 12 and the 5 way agreement.
He has played his part in the good times no doubt about it,but he has lost the fans. His position should be over.
I read Martin ONeil saying that he never communicated with Lawwell,he went straight to Dermot. This was the last time that a real Celtic team was on the park. It shows the influence he has had over managers since. He has failed since he got involved.
We now need a strong manager, who will tell him where to go,who will have the trust of Dermot,in buying players, and having overall say in transfer dealings.
That man could be Roy Keane. Brendan Rodgers too, and Davie Moyes. It has to be one of those three guys.
My choice no doubt about it Brendan Rodgers, followed by Moyes then Keane.
They sure as hell won’t be Lawwells, but they may just be Dermot’s,and thats what really matters.

Another day, another daily dose of moans and groans another day of guessing, waiting and watching.
A new manager———-No,
Res 12—————–No,
Communication from the Board—No,
It is clear that they will not announce a new manager until Dellia is away,in 2/3 weeks if then, meanwhile the supporters will play second guess as to whether they will or will not renew there season tickets for next season.
Man its great to be a Tim.
Brendan Rogers would be great and would make a serious statement of intent, but will they,i am not so sure,
Will Dermots son be given more responsibility on the board, that to would make a statement of a more hands on approach and would i think be welcomed by the support.
So, dont give up on us baby, you know our time will come.

As Ireland finally recognises her Heroes of 16, let them not forget that 35 years ago today,a young Irish Soldier lay down his life for the cause of justice and Freedom.
Bobby Sands I salute you and that of your 9 brave companions.
May your brave soul rest in peace.
There’s an inner thing in every man,
Do you know this thing my friend?
It has withstood the blows of a million years,
And will do so to the end.
It was born when time did not exist,
And it grew up out of life,
It cut down evil’s strangling vines,
Like a slashing searing knife.
It lit fires when fires were not,
And burnt the mind of man,
Tempering leadened hearts to steel,
From the time that time began.
It wept by the waters of Babylon,
And when all men were a loss,
It screeched in writhing agony,
And it hung bleeding from the Cross.
It died in Rome by lion and sword,
And in defiant cruel array,
When the deathly word was ‘Spartacus’
Along the Appian Way.
It marched with Wat the Tyler’s poor,
And frightened lord and king,
And it was emblazoned in their deathly stare,
As e’er a living thing.
It smiled in holy innocence,
Before conquistadors of old,
So meek and tame and unaware,
Of the deathly power of gold.
It burst forth through pitiful Paris streets,
And stormed the old Bastille,
And marched upon the serpent’s head,
And crushed it ‘neath its heel.
It died in blood on Buffalo Plains,
And starved by moons of rain,
Its heart was buried in Wounded Knee,
But it will come to rise again.
It screamed aloud by Kerry lakes,
As it was knelt upon the ground,
And it died in great defiance,
As they coldly shot it down.
It is found in every light of hope,
It knows no bounds nor space
It has risen in red and black and white,
It is there in every race.
It lies in the hearts of heroes dead,
It screams in tyrants’ eyes,
It has reached the peak of mountains high,
It comes searing ‘cross the skies.
It lights the dark of this prison cell,
It thunders forth its might,
It is ‘the undauntable thought’, my friend,
That thought that says ‘I’m right!’
