Petering over the cracks

The Holy Poet sends his thoughts…

Paper The Cracks.                                                            1st May 2016.

Some cried for his sacking at Celtic, much more than some could endure

But the departure of one Ronny Deila was only a part of the cure

Look at crowds here on match days, they used to be double in size

It’s the board that needs sacking at Celtic to give us back our Paradise.

They have to please the shareholders, it’s them they have to appease

But the ultimate cost is to Celtic, our Club is being dragged to its knees.

By investing in notable players we can only reap what we sow

We all sing from the same Celtic bible but your hymn sheet is never on show

There’s no heart, no direction, no passion, what’s the future for all our young fans

These youngsters need heroes to worship or we’ll never see them in our stands

But you don’t care if Parkhead’s half empty; season tickets have already been sold

And you don’t care if the staff’s paid a pittance, our money men only see gold.

Thirteen years since we reach Europe’s final, we haven’t built on since Seville

Gone are those great days of Celtic, gone are the players who thrilled.

Today I saw us League Champions, winning our fifth in a row

But with five more to go for the record, that’s a helluva long way to go.

The fans have dug deep in their pockets, sometimes going without what they need

But you’ve got a worldwide family to balance our books with your greed.

We may never win Europe’s big trophy but we should, at least, be allowed to compete

But we’re embarrassed by those we rely on who lead us to endless defeats.

You tell us we’ll break all the records but all you’re doing’s breaking our hearts

This Club we’ve all loved since our childhood is slowly being taken apart

We’re the fans and we’re Celtic’s lifeblood, you’re just papering over the cracks

Your arrogance is proving your ignorance, we’ve seen the results in your facts

We need representation in standards, those which appeal to the hordes

It’s time for a clear-out at Celtic, not just players and staff but the board.

Your self-built pedestal is ready to crash, you need to listen to all of the fans

Or invest in what it means to be Celtic and you’ll soon see packed Paradise stands.

I’m always impressed when a writer
Is happy to give up his time
To give us his views on the Celtic
And he decides to do it in rhyme.
‘Cos writing a poem’s not easy
In fact it is hard indeed
The words are all there in their glory
But they’re all muddled up in yer heid.
So please raise a glass to the writer
He deserves all the praise in the world
And I hope that we do our ten in a row
And we’re there when the Flag is unfurled.

Holy Poet

Amazing how poetry enhances. This really encapsulates the feelings of many whose anger tends to drone full expression.

Excellent piece.

Holy Poet, that’s brilliant but unfortunately rings too true. Hope you’ve sent our CEO a copy to read out at the next board meeting. Great effort from Mike Bhoyle too, BTW.
Well done to Leicester City too. Showing the ‘usual suspects’ that money isn’t everything. (another wee pointer for our bean-counter-in-chief, Mr Lawwell & Co). Must say I hated supporting Chelsea for a couple of hours tonight but well worth it.
We’re halfway to 10-in-a-Row. It’s not all doom and gloom.
Onwards and upwards.

Interesting to ponder the basis of Leicester City’s success:

442
Counter attacking rather than possession and high pressing
Regular consumption of pizza but they were very fit
Some great inexpensive buys – Vardy and Mahrez in particular
Players weren’t asked to become 24 hour sportsmen but were asked to be professional and give their all during the game
Great teamwork and respect for the manager

This sounds more suitable for Scottish football does it not? Any thoughts?

Great poem describes perfectly what is happening at Celtic Park. Can you send a copy to Dermot Desmond for his perusal, time he done something about the bean counters running our great club and made the team the number one priority again.
