The Chewing The Fat Friday Debate: #1 Fan A or Fan Eh?

In a new piece, to basically help Monti and Charlie Saiz to argue even more, we thought we should start up a wee debating item on a regular basis.

Anyone who listened to the recent podcast  will have heard Hector Bandito and DesiMond express their differing  thoughts on the fans who take Flares to the game.

We encourage you to listen of course but no doubt you may have a thought on the subject.

A brief summary:

Hector contends that people need to calm down and relax. Old folk moaning about young folk is nothing new and how soon we all forget we were all young once too.  Its just boy and girls having some fun and if we do a comparison around Europe maybe we wouldn’t be so anxious about an occasional wee firework now and again.

Desi wonders what sort of person actually sits and thinks “Is there a game on this week?, I know, Im gonna get a flare ( where do you even get a flare?)  and take it to an AWAY ground and set it off, what a laugh!”. The premeditation is a worry let alone any Health and Safety issues.

So its your turn.

Here are both sides of the argument laid out in simple Chewing the Fat style terms.

How do you view fans with flares.

b) hiking in Glencoe
c) transatlantic solo crossing in a row boat from Hogganfield Loch
d) exploring caves with Indiana Jones

I think all this flare, squib and sumdies gonny get killed talk is way over the top. I mean every back garden near me were goin for an hoor and a hauf efter the bells and ah didnae hear anybody complainin. Or is pyrotechnics a different thing? F— knows.

Re.Frankie ….
If you can’t see the difference in people having fireworks at a Hogmanay party, in their own back garden, and taking FLARES for use in a public football stadium, where you know that your ‘supposedly loved club’,DO NOT WANT THEM,then you should definitely take a serious look in the mirror. So sad that you CANNOT.
UNTHINKING IDIOTS TAKE FLARES TO STADIA.
Responsible FAIRMINDED fans DO NOT.

i absolutely agree. the club doesnt want them, and most fans dont want them. so who thinks that taking them is a good idea, especially knowing that once the set them off the club will get hammered by the, ever so willing sfa and spfl, and the gleeful smsm will jump on our case. all it does is punish the club, and give us a bad name. personally i think the idiots that set them off dont have the mindset or even capability of accessing a website, or even readin the daily toilet rag

Once you’ve seen one flare you’ve seen them all, apart from the medical implications that could happen when letting them off, which lets face it, it’s only a matter of time before something serious does happen tae somebody, there also very very expensive, there costing Celtic aboot £20 grand a throw when we’re in Europe, so as much as i loved the auld pyrotechnics when i was young, there’s a time and a place, and it’s not inside a ground when Celtic are playing. Plus your only meant tae let them off when your in distress so take a lorry load of them over tae the HUNDOME and let them all off there, their certainly in distress and who gives a shit if they harm any monkeys… HAIL HAIL.

not that I’m one for the H&S side of the argument (however, for those with respiratory problems, I do sympathise); my main gripe on the matter is those with the impunity to continuously flaunt the rules. Flares etc are banned, so ignoring these rules is to the detriment of the Club. Not so much financially (so far), but more the irreparable damage caused to the hard eanred reputation of the Club and its support

What happens in other clubs is irrelevant to us even though lack of action on them makes it unfair on us. What is wrong and singles out these idiots as self obsessed numpties is that they do this knowing it will bring the authorities down on us, that is if they think at all which is a big question in itself.

Everyone likes a laugh and a bit of high jinks, but when it is costing the club money and reputation all over Europe, I think it is time to call it a day and move on to something more safe.It is only a matter of time before we are playing a game or two behind closed doors or worse a ban in Europe. As I said to Dessie last night, in my vioew it’s a natural progression of a young supporters life. Get up to high-jinx, get moaned at by the auld fuddy duddies….fast forward 20 years you get auld and moan at the young yins!

Things were far, far worse when I was a gallus (eh?) young yin going to games and make the pyro mob nowadays look like angels!

Let the young yins have their fun before they become auld miserable gits like the rest of us!

It is not allowed, it’s as simple as that or until they produce them without bio-hazards. It’s not about supporting the team and more to do with, awe look at us, we’re ULTRAS. Even if it was allowed, their attempts at it have been paltry. They couldn’t even hold up a banner at Stranraer right. HH

I am presently looking for a alchemist to help in inventing a smoke bomb and flare combined, that would pass any health and safety regulation issues, which is child friendly abd will be able to be used indoors and out. It’s a hundred million dollar cheque to the first person who does. And do you know I’m nearly there, now that you can buy magnetic solder. All the best. HH

I think the guys banned were in their mid 20s and one in his 40’s. A bit old to be kids having some fun. And yes pyros in a crowd have the potential to cause some serious damage to fellow Tims.

Ive not seen an itallian game for a while but as i recall watching the games on channel 4 with the bold james richardson there wasnt a game went by without seeing a number of flares going off in the colours of there team. You would even hear the comentators saying how fantastic it looked. Is this still the norm in italy or are they banned there to ? Maybe they could have a designated area for them.

Veronacelt

Clubs are getting hit with fines even in Italy for it nowadays, but since most of the Ultra groups have a huge say in the running of the clubs then the fines get paid with a weak plea for the fans to stop doing it.

Isn’t it amazing to see the outcry over some flares being let off?
Yet we used to have a club that openly discriminated against the signing of Catholic players and 50,000 in their stadium singing about the killing of Catholics and being up to their knees in FENIAN blood?

Not a word said about it?

” Part of the fabric of the nation “- Alex Salmond.

” What an atmosphere ” – Kenny Maccaskill.

Yeah And turning an eye on those cheating bastards and then openly supporting them to get back into the top division,Scottish football has a lot more pressing issues than flares a few guys set off ,and the Neanderthals singing their hearts out to there sectarian songbook, and not a dickie bird said, but how naughty Timmy is,will people ever wake up to the bias against us and join together to defeat the enemies of our club and not castigate one another in public like the official statement did,a few flares for me yeah, but having a bigotfest at Ibroke is ok,please.

Take one person from every family in the land and put him in prison. When a member off the family lets off a flare randomly execute fifty of the hostages. Repeat until they get the message. Vote Conservative.

Sue, I think you’ll find it’s “John, I think…” not “John…I think…”. An ellipsis is indicative of a missing word or series of words.

There’s an expression about people in glass houses throwing stones. It’s really not worth picking people up on syntax, grammar, typos or anything similar. There’s a tendency for it to come back to bite you.

if anybody out there thinks it is acceptable to have flares or any similar device in a public space, why don’t they Google the name Kevin Beltram.

Veronacelt

Sooner or later these flare loving fans are going to get Paradise closed for European games, so why should we allow the “youthful exuberance” of the few affect the rest of the fans?

The question shouldn’t be do you or don’t you like flares.

It should be do you like or dislike continually getting your “beloved” club into trouble with the authorities by doing something that doesn’t really have any impact of the game being played?

Backing your team with great singing ect can help them raise their game, but do you think the players give an extra yard because someone decides to chuck a green flare on the pitch?

Dan the man,
Open your eyes for fuck sake!!
What were you saying when Forrest hit the late winner against Shakhtar Karagandy?

Your much vaunted manager Ronny Deila speaks highly of James, bet that’s got you fucked!

Maybe we should sell Forrest and give his wages to Ambrose, maybe give him a new 6 year deal.

Fascinatingly hilarious!

Do you also want to know what I was saying when Stevie Chalmers scored the winner against Inter Monti? No? because it is history..I have at no time said JF is a bad player he is not consistent enough and is injury prone. There are Liverpool fans who want Daniel Sturridge out of the club for the same reason and he is a better more consistent player than JF when he plays. If you check back my posts you will see I was all for Efe lesving the club but he has shown some consistent form in the last few games and we are short of cover . JF is a luxury player who might or might not turn up on any given night. RD might like him. But the question I asked was he value for money? The contract offer might be at a level which reflects this. Time will tell but if he leavves it won’t be for clubs at the top/middle of The EPL. IMHO.
