Celtic Diary Monday January 4: Johansen Getting Restless ?

Another Celt has spoken out in defence of manager Ronny Deila, claiming its not the manager who isn’t very good, it is, in fact, the players, who are not doing their jobs.

Stefan Johansen, who used to be good but now he’s shite, said;

“It’s not the manager who has to play. The players need to take responsibility as well.

“We have not done well enough in a couple of games. You can’t just blame the manager. We need to be realistic.

“We have not played well in some games and have to take the criticism, that’s part of the job and we have to be ready to bounce back

“Everyone believes and I have not heard any negativity about the manager, players or
team spirit.

“When the result does not go the right way people start asking questions. That’s how it is at a club like Celtic.

“But it’s good that we showed at the weekend that even with 10 men we want to work for each other. At the end of the day it was hard work which won the game. It’s always like that at a huge club.

“Look at Manchester United now for example or Chelsea.

“Celtic are a massive club in Europe so there is always going to be that type of pressure.

When you don’t win games then questions will be asked.

“But we have belief in what we do and we showed great team spirit.”

The Norwegian was playing a holding role on Saturday, but often found himself ahead of the forwards, though he was ignored by the man in possession. Perhaps he’s a little frustrated, nt only with himself, but with those around him….

Or with life in general. Something isn’t right.

He’s in talks with the club over a new deal. So he says, anyway;

“I have no comment about that. You need to speak to my agent.

“Always in the past I don’t comment about this. I know we’re in talks and we’ll see what happens.

“That’s very positive for the club to sign those kind of players [Bitton and Brown] in the long term, but, for me, we are in talks.

“That’s all I can say. And we’ll take it from there.”

Johansen hasn’t been himself, or maybe this is him being himself and last season, when he was player of the year , was a blip.

Manager Deila is aware something is wrong, and he even gave the midfielder an extended breal recently. Which the player thinks did him some good.

The rest of us aren’t quite so sure.

I felt very good after that My head was spinning at the time. I just went away to quiet places in Norway and Scotland with my fiancee. It was good for me, I felt it helped and it’s going to help me in the long term.

“When I came here from Norway and played so many games for Celtic from the start, it was new for me. It’s quite easy to just say everything is okay. But then your form starts dropping.

“After that break, I was able to reflect on things. I pushed football away and could see things that I didn’t see every day when you are in the middle of it all.

“Of course it has been a difficult few months. It is always better to have positive things said about you, but I think the criticism makes you more grown up and you learn from it.

“I know that I have not played my best football this season. But often the biggest pressure on me is the pressure I put on myself. I know when I’m playing good football and I know when I’m playing bad. It’s up to me to do the right things to get my form back.

“That’s what it is like at a club like this and it’s part of the job you have to handle. That’s why I play football, I like to have supporters who care about the club.”

I wonder if he’s a wee bit more fragile than we first thought. That last sentence hints that he just wants to be loved.

One of yesterdays replies cried out for someone without the green tinted norwegian glasses on to write up the match reports, so in order to please the crowd, as they say, we’ll change the tone a little.

Its now the fourth of January, and still there’s no sign of any new players coming in to bolster the squad for a push towards next seasons champions league, as , of course, the domesic trophies don’t count any more.

Celtic need to spend at least thirty million pounds-which we’d soon get back in the group stages-with some quality players on high wages.

Get Dermot to put his hand in his pocket !

If you want more stuff in this tone, simply buy any newspaper from any store near you, and turn to the sports section.

With a little more sense regarding the window required, for a number of reasons, the manager calmly told us;

If we can get anyone in early, of course we would prefer that. But I am realistic.

“Everybody’s holding back for two reasons – one to get more options, to see what you can get in yourself, and also wanting to press up the prices as much as possible.

“It’s a tough thing all the time to find the value and not lose your head. That’s always when you do something very quick and with not enough research. Not always, but a lot of times that turns out bad.”

To an extent, he’s right, and there is a bit more to it than just picking out a player and buying him. Theres all sorts of twist and turns to be , eeer, twisted and turned before the end of the month, and although there is a need to improve, it has to be in the right places with the right type of player.

And not just flinging a whole load of shit against the wall in the hope some of it will stick.

( Thats not really a phrase I understand, as common as it is in every day use. Who goes “Woo hoo, I’ve got some jobbies stuck to my wall ? ” )

Over at Ibrox , they aren’t hanging around, having signed another out of contract player on a six month deal as they rebuild their squad. Build a squad on six month deals ?

What kind of player are they getting who is desperate to sign a six month deal ?

Maybe it is better to wait.

Now, perhaps someone can enlighten us.

Why Were Celtic Fans Flashing Lights Around Stadium Today_?

Click on the link and you’ll see quite a few flashing lights, presumably from phones, which became prominent with around five minutes of the game left.

Was it some kind of protest ? Were people just bored ?

Still want them back ?

There is a certain amount of justification to spend a few quid, in the name of science , of course, to maybe have a look at this particular subsection of society and trying to ascertain what exactly is fucking wrong with them.

We are already aware of certain physical characteristics which set them apart, as illustrated in the example below, where an average skeleton is compared to the species Hunnus Homosapienm, a rarer strain found in the west of Scotland, north f Ireland and a couple of pubs in Blackpool .

Scottih football has iys problems, and although armageddon hasn’t happened without the presence of a strong sectarian element at the top table, there are still plans to get them in as soon as possible.

Gordon Smith, now writing for the Sunday Post, billed as the man in the know, has his thoughts on how to save Rangers, er, Scottish football

Embedded image permalink

He wants us all to wear poppies, even in fucking January.

( That picture may well have been taken in novemeber, and the article published then. but I didn’t see it until yesterday, so my point stands, even if it is wrong. )

Note the one club relegated, to give his club a chance to play a couple of seasons at the top.

Spare a thought for Amido Balde, who was bought to replace Gary Hooper. He’s gone to play his football in Angola., having failed to hold down a place at Metz.

With he transfer window open, please don’t let the guy who found him anywhere near the club again.

Caption competition, okay-can someone explain whats going on here with this enlightened fellow…

….and definitely don’t ask our two billionaires to dip into their pockets for a couple of outstanding players, because that is simply unrealistic and fanciful of the fans.
Let’s stick with Ronny because when O’Connell comes back everything will be just fine.
Let’s stick with Efe and Dedryck because it is clearly getting better at the back, Barcelona and Bayern Munich are reported to be readying bids for them.
Let’s stick with Ronny because regardless of what we see with our own eyes, it is clearly working, the football is a joy to watch, the stands are full and so is the Kerrydale.
We have a tight defence that works as a unit, solid, compact and in total control.
The midfield is swashbuckling with flair and intensity, dogged determination, balance and creativity.
Our strike force is up there with the clubs heroes of yesteryear, the speedy Carlton Cole, the prolific Nadir Ciftci are legends in the making.
No matter tho because it’s all part of the Deila plan, the treble is on so everything must be fine.

which outstanding players might you suggest?
the ones bought recently despite costing silly money are presumably up to your standards.

fuck it, lets play the kids rather than “investing” in some little known whoever that gets you hard cause we have paid two mil plus (not including wages) for their “services”.

the days of finding gems that english teams will pay stupid money for in a year or two are gone. wake / grow up. no one decent from abroad will come here.

Monti

Regi fartpants,
Hmmmm, Forster, Ledley, Hooper, Wanyama, Matthews and Van Dijk wanted to come here, so you are talking pish.
The bottom line is wages and European football, Dermot picks and chooses when to play with his toy ( Celtic ) for example, when he appointed Martin O’neill he was happy to spend big, when Roy and Robbie Keane wanted to come, he facilitated that.
Now I don’t know about you but I would think the vast majority of the Celtic support at this time, are a bit pissed off at what we are watching.
I’m not asking for hundred of millions to be spent on the team, just maybe three players who are far better than we currently have, I think that is reasonable.
We picked up Forster and Van Dijk for under £5m
Johansen ( last season) looked a bargain at just over £2m.
The players are out there, this is where the scouts have to get it right, there are other Van Dijk’s in Holland, other Forster in England, the Celtic recruitment has been shocking recently, some of the strikers that have been brought in are simply shite, Banbury, Rasmussen, Pukki, Balde and Boerrigter ( winger) total waste of money.

As for growing up? Sssshhhhh

all the players you mention packed their bags and buggered off pretty sharpish. how do you define “wanted to come here”? they got a big signing on fee and were paid more than their previous club. the only one that would likely have better options was van dijk. the others came from so far down the ladder playing in scotland was a step up.

as for wanting to play european football, how many of them have played in europe since? going to southampton, crystal palace, norwich city and sunderland really shows how ambitious those players you mention are in that direction.

they wanted top play in the premiership. scotland was the best option to tout themselves. lets not kid ourselves about the status of our club. even if dermot spunked xxx million – our status wouldn’t change much.

A note to all Celtic supporters.

Sit down and face the front, do not believe your own eyes or your own gut instincts, just sing walk on and the ball will stay out of our net.
If we sing a bit louder and with more gusto, this will make passing more accurate.

We must applaud loudly as the board take their seats in the stand.

The performance Saturday was one of the worst I have witnessed as a Celtic supporter ,players do not look interested or are they short of confidence,Deila stood for most of the game like a statue, like a rabbit dazzled in the headlights,we are on a fast track to a disaster, thank god Aberdeen are shite aswell, the booing of the rogic change WAS IN MY MIND DIRECTED AT THE MANAGER WE HAD TOO INEFFECTIVE WINGERS IN COMMONS AND MC GREGOR AND HE CHANGES CENTRAL MID FOR ANOTHER WINGER,THE MIDFIELD was all at sea,and cifti cannot even hold up the ball no mind score, what is collins role as he stood in the dugout for the whole game,Ronnie please go know and admit you are not up to it,that would be the best option for everyone ,and biton looked to me to want to get sent off .

Albert Einstein once said, “The defenition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”

Once opposing teams wise up to the style of play and formation, they nullify the patterns that Celtic have been working on in training. Hence, the keech performances.

If you are playing to a pattern and the team you are playing against doesn’t let you play that pattern then as we have seen often enough, the players look lost and don’t know what to do.

There has to be room for mixing it up, creativity and suprising opponents.

The players are capable of so much more and shouldn’t be restrained in some system.

When you change it up, your alertness and awareness gets sharpened, you can see more clearly what is in front of you, and you can creatively respond to the situation.

Otherwise you just run off a program and become mechanical and predictable like a robot, which is what we have been seeing with the team. Am I wrong?

Raymobhoy,
Watched Gianluigi Buffon of Juventus through the years, builds from the back almost every time he is on the ball, either throws it to the full back or passes it with either foot to them, I’m no goalkeeping coach but does it make sense to be in possession of the ball then kick it 100ft in the air?
Remember Schmeichel at Man Utd? As soon as he got the ball, he was looking for Giggs and Kanchelskis.
He found Kanchelskis time after time, but Giggs was harder to find, he was usually in his brothers wife’s bed.

I’ve tried to stay positive on Ronny. Then I went to the game on Saturday – first one in a long time as I live abroad – and I sat there realizing why so many want him out. It’s true that it’s not all his fault, but so many things are going wrong you have to conclude the management aren’t capable of putting them right anymore.
I’d also call time on Commons.
Instead of looking for specific positions, the scouts should be looking for natural in the park leaders. Get one or two of them and you will see a change in this team. This more than anything is what Celtic are lacking.

Monti

Totally agree Bobby,
I have consistently stated Celtic have the foundations of an excellent squad….but the wrong man is driving it.
He lives in a fantasy world of make believe, he want’s to do the right things, but he can’t achieve it with Celtic, out-of his depth.

I blame the board more than Deila though, they are killing the club!
Too many people interested in Margins, balance sheets and statistics…..It’s all about what comes out the tunnel on match day, it’s all about the strength of the team!

You will have noticed the absence of Brown and Mulgrew then.
Been saying it since the start of the Season Key men out of an average team does not bode well for a fantastic start to a Season.
Denaayer VVD Brown Mulgrew Lustig and Johansen were all key men last Season.
Our second fiddle are not yet up to the level of these guys yet when they are on song.
But hey let’s ignore these mitigating factors and blame the Manager.

Heres a question for y’all, is it the fans who should create the atmosphere to inspire the players or should the players performance inspire the fans to get behind the team. The answer to that is both, the fans have to do their thing and the players have to turn it on, the problem at the moment is the fans are watching sub standard shite domestically and being embarrassed in Europe.
It’s all intertwined.
You can’t just put up with sheer dismal performances but keep cheering away, that’s insanity.
The board has the responsibility to put the best coaching team in the dugout and players on the park, they are failing to do this.

That’s because Lenny had us setup so most of the attacks went through Commons at the point of the Diamond.
we have scored 48 goals as a side in our first 20 games this season.
We had scored 45 with Commons playing in that role in Season 2013-14.
You like all the other Commons disciples cannot see past the goals or Assists.
His shooting last season was poor early doors.
His first touch can be brutal,he rarely tracks back to help out and usually fails to chase down the ball when he loses possession.
That’s not helpful when you are being asked to contribute to a high pressing game that requires EVERY PLAYER works off the ball.

I read a tweet earlier that suggested Deila was at the Eibar game looking at Serbian defender Aleksandar Pantić and not Strikers as suggested elsewhere?
I found a few videos on him and it would appear there may well be something in this as he can play right across the back 4.
He can also play as a wingback with a good delivery off either foot.
Strong,quick,comfortable in possession.

That’ll be good for team morale, a Croat and a Serb partnering each other.
Good thinking Ronny…

No comment on the player or the video then just the usual Deila diatribe.
No change there then.

Where is your evidence that Deila was watching the Serb?

#Celticfc mgr watched 23yo Eibar CB Aleksandar Pantic on Sunday, on loan from Villarreal contract til June 2016

Seems legit and it makes sense as this guy fits with our signing criteria as well as our need for defensive cover.

He looks good Charlie. Although I saw at the start of the video he only plays CB, RB where is your other pieces of information coming from?

I don’t have any answers but I do have lots of questions. What is wrong with Johansen? Is it physical, mental or both? Why is he playing ahead of Allan? Why does Gordon punt the ball instead of playing from the back as we used to? Why not play Ambrose? Why buy more players? Why not give our youngsters more playing time? Why can’t we play like we did when we could win 5-0, 6-0, with the same players? What proof does anybody on this site have that Ronny ‘has lost the dressing room’? What does that even mean anyway? Why aren’t our fans more supportive of a team that is struggling? Why did Scottish football allow Rangers to discriminate against Catholics for over a hundred years yet allow them to compete for domestic trophies? why was Sevco allowed to jump the queue into Scottish football ahead of several well-run small clubs who paid their taxes and debts and who are still waiting?

Charlie Saiz. It was me who asked for the info. on penalties. I just checked the previous day’s forum. Thanks for all that hard work. I wasn’t surprised that Celtic, with the best attack and best team in the league, had the fewest penalties of the top 3 teams. Monti asked if you and me are one and the same because we both “talk pish”. If talking pish is a sign of being one and the same then the anti-Ronny brigade is one big muthafucka! No Monti, it was Charlie Saiz who first advised me to have some patience, that Deila would be no Mowbray. I took his advice and am grateful for it. In my auld bones, though often wrong, I think Deila is onto something, which will be very good in the end. It would be a shame to panic and throw something good away. Ronny is a young manager with great potential. As long as he wins the league and gets us into the CL next year, he deserves a fair chance. Those who despise the Treble and Ten in a Row are just toadies for the MSM and Sevco. Ranger’s demise was not our fault and is not now our concern.

No worries pal I have been thinking of looking at that for a while so only too happy to help.
Cannot believe the Hysteria over dropping a few points in the Season.
Too many fickle fans in fitba now spoiled by success.
Great teams take 3-5 years to build even longer if you keep punting your best.
Ronny talks sense time will prove him right pal.
Patience is all that’s required.

“patience is all that’s required”?

So Celtic must be patient in building a side that can regularly beat Hearts, Kilmarnock, Hamilton and Partick Thistle?
But through all that ‘ patience ‘ keep digging deep into our pockets for the shite on show?
Look around the stadium, no one is impressed, no one believes and they will soon stop going.

Open your eyes!

I am not a betting man but I read at the week – end if celtic played rangers the betting would be Evans how many times do the bookies get it wrong

Drewster, I’ll take your bet and yes the bookies are wrong if they set the betting at even money. The only way the betting could possibly be close is if all the orcs bet their team, that would lower their odds based on volume of money likely to be lost by the bookies rather than their actual ability to beat Celtic in a football match. That is way off being close. I would say if I were offered even money on this bet, I’d put every single pound I had on Celtic to win

Ronny Lovers,
Provide the evidence, results and performances wise, that Celtic are improving under Ronny Deila.
I don’t want stupid statistics based on how many fucking free kicks or penalties we have been awarded.
Based on European and Domestic results THIS season, where are we getting better?
Defensively? Passing in midfield and throughout the side? Strike partnerships? Changes of formation for certain opposition and venues?

Where is it?

I think a few have lost their marbles that they lack any way.
To read crap like the comments I could subscribe to the Daily Gersport.
Their article today about Delilalah said it all.
Celtic will win the league and possibly the two cups, the team are strong enough to do that against the guff that we play. The problem with the board is they think that this is success, then they can sell a few players on.
What they do not realise is the support are like snow of a dyke, if their is nothing worth watching they will not troop along in numbers.
I went to the game on Saturday after missing a few,I left before the end, I was scunnered at the lack of skill showing. Yes we are missing a few players, if the were back how much better would we be.
I have decided enough is enough and my grandson can miss a few games, maybe the ABZ game otherwise not worth the time never mind the money.

Hey Monti. I can’t show that the team is progressing but I don’t know how to measure ‘progress’. Remember when we dismantled Dundee Utd. 6-0 in the early days (they still had Armstrong, Ciftci and Mackay-Steven then) That day we played attractive attacking football that reminded me of Jinky, Lennox and Chalmers. I thought we would keep doing that but didn’t. We can’t measure progress by a few matches in mid-winter flooding with key injuries and lack of form. It will take longer. First, we must take young players and get them used to winning in our league, in cups—whatever it takes. When we start winning more easily in the league, then we might start winning more easily in Europe. One feeds the other. Here’s how it could work. We back Ronny to win the league, the cups and to get into the CL. Ronny can go with my blessing: if he doesn’t win the League (our ticket into Europe) and if he doesn’t get us into the CL on the third attempt. It is no accident that the last very good Celtic teams we had were under MON who gave us five years. Lenny and WGS gave us three years each. After a minimum of three years (provided we win the league this year) then we can judge Deila. He too is learning and growing into the job. Unlike MON and Lenny, Deila wants to be here a longer time and develop a good team. Ever bake bread Monti? Homemade bread really tastes better than any you can buy in the shop—but it takes time. I’m trying to see the bigger picture and you guys keep telling me/us to go to Specsavers! I’ll be the first to let you know if and when my vision fails.

Kennedy defensive coach two good games under his belt Lol we are one of the softer teams I’ve seen no ball winner from back to front big cif. I’d only buy that to clean my boots or sink I’m a very positive person normally I’ve seen us in a few matches for 25min we looked gr88 then big kennedys defence lets in cheap goals and all of a sudden the team needs to score 3 or 4 goals a game with one up front must take the wind out yer sails think big Ron should sack two amigos and bring in expert coaches for the three areas .?
