Celtic Diary Monday December 28: Celtic -2, Bet of the Day

Go on. admit it, it won’t hurt.

You enjoyed that game yesterday, didn’t you ?

I did. sure, i had to take the dog for a long walk afterwards because the result wasn’t what i wanted, but on reflection, it was as good an afternoons entertainment as you are likely to get these days.

Though if I want entertainment, I would go to the pictures.

When the old adversaries at Ibrox were told they had to pay back all the money they had borrowed, causing alarm amongst their accountants and a mass exit of those who had spent it, the inevitable outcome was bankrupcy. After they were gone, the duopoly ended.

And its not quite the monopoly pundits expected.

Scottish football is well on the way to recovery, so much so that teams now only have four games a year they are not expected to win, and have , with one or two notable exceptions, relaxed a wee bit and are prepared to give it a go. As a result, there is the appearance that Celtic have fallen to their level, when in fact, domestically at least, its the other sides who have raised their game.

A 2-2 draw at Tynecastle with a number of your key players missing isn’t a bad result. When three great goals are scored, and the fourth is the result of an exquisite pass and finish, then there is an argument to say it  was a quality contest.

It certainly wasn’t dull, and manager Ronny Deila has every right to feel a little relieved that his charges put in a shift, fought a bit harder, and managed, on the whole, to pass to each other not only with a lot more accuracy, but with a lot more pace and confidence.

“There were a lot of positive things. We started the game well. We were unlucky with a couple of injuries and it took a bit of time to get organised again.”

“We went 1-0 up with a beautiful goal and then we conceded an unnecessary goal, which was tough mentally going in at the break.”

“But showed quality of mental strength to go out and control the game again after the restart.

“We scored another beautiful goal and I felt we had good control of the game. We had a bit of stress towards the end but you always have that when you are 2-1 ahead and playing in an atmosphere like this.

“Sometimes you have to give credit to the opponent when they have a strike like that. Craig had no chance, though maybe there was a deflection as well. It was an unbelievable goal.

“That was disappointing, but what I’m happy with today was the team spirit. Against Motherwell, that was what disappointed me.

“There was little energy and there were a lot of individuals playing for themselves instead of the team. Today, I saw my old team back again.”

“This was a hardworking team, who were well organised, playing forward and quick with their passing.”

“This is how I want to see my team play, and that’s the positive thing, and something we have to try and produce again on Wednesday (against Dundee).”

He’s right about the second  equaliser. At one point Hearts boss Robbie Neilson was seen to shout at the scorer Osman Sow afterwards as it appeared the Hearts man had left this earth and was freely floating among the clouds.

No wonder.

His shot took a small deflection and then, unlike any free kick ever taken from that position flew into the opposite corner to the one where he was supposed to aim it-and probably did.

A bit like the way in which Shunsuke Nakamura would selfishly take free kicks before the keeper was ready. Except, of course, the wee Japanese fellow meant it.

One of those things, but on a more serious note, the more times Celtic concede this mow obligatory two goals, the more an opponent will fell confident they can do it.

Early in the game Dedryck Boyata pulled up with a hamstring injury, and that may yet turn out to be the biggest stroke of luck for Ronny Deila since he lost Derk Boerrigters phone number.

To a massive cheer from the crowd Efe Ambrose entered the fray, as the Hearts fans realised that they , too, would get their two goals against the Hoops.

Except they weren’t getting them at the expense of the big Nigerian.

He won every header, every tackle and usually found a team mate with his new style of a long ball out of defence, which replaced his mazy runs of previous games. And he wasn’t afraid to bully someone when it was needed.

His decision making was swift, and more often than not correct, and we may just have found the man we need to compliment Jozo Simunovic.

Not so much in what he did, but in what he didn’t do.

He didn’t leave too much of a gap between himself and Simunovic, and although that had a disastrous outcome at first, which lead to Mikael Lustig helping Hearts with their first equaliser, it plugged an alarming hole which the tynecastle side had threatened to exploit-the pass right through the middle that was deemed to an offside player showed how easy it is to split the Celtic defence.

Lustig had found himself in no mans land for the second time in the game, and despite a valiant effort, succeeded in only diverting the ball off the forwards foot for what Sky summariser Andy Walker called a fantastic finish.

In yesterdays Diary, I mentioned I wasn’t sure about who should partner Simunovic, but after yesterday, I am now. boyata isn’t going to make it. He looks afraid, nervous and maybe even fragile.

And as anyone will know, if you are looking to bully someone, head for the guy who looks like he is used to being bullied.

As for Mikael Lustig, perhaps now he can get on with just being a right back, without concerning himself with the others in the back line. He isn’t the player he was, and in order to get back to that, he must get back to basics, and just be a full back again.

Ambrose and Simunovic is a better option than Boyata and Simunovic, and the time for experimenting is now over. From now until May we go with the form players, and thats that.

Because we need to stop losong two goals every time we take to the field. Alright, its not every time, but it certainly feels like it.

In midfield, Celtic lost Stuart Armstrong early on as well, and he was replaced by James Forrest, who had originally been left out. Perhaps it would have been better to leave him there, and introduce Scott Allan at this stage.

Forrest looks tired, and his lung bursting runs are all well and good, but he needs to stop running along the eighteen yard line and hitting the old daisy cutter wide.

It’s predictable. And it’s lazy, at least mentally.

And thats something a winger should never be. Sometimes he should head to the bye line and cut the ball back. That means the defenders have to turn around, and it allows midfielders to catch up with play. If you do that, he, and his opposite flank man, remove the need for a target man to hold the ball up.

Going back to Scott Allan, and it would be interesting to see how he and Calum MacGregor perform alongside each other.

MacGregor is not a headline grabber. You won’t come out of a ground telling your pals about how he dominated a game, or will be the next ten million pound player.

But he stays the course, is direct, and can pick a pass, as Nir Biton, scorer of the opening goal will tell you.

Tom Rogic did his usual shift, and even scored a delightful goal to restore Celtics lead, but apart from that it was the same old fare from him. some great touches, but again that urge to run into a crowd of defenders and lose the ball.

When he was replaced by Gary Mackay Steven, it was presumably because he was tired, but also to add a little width to the side, as Rogic was insisting on running straight into trouble, which must be because he thought the Hearts defence thought he wouldn’t be stupid enough to keep doing it.

Stefan Johansen came in for some criticism, but in actual fact, a lot of it was undeserved. With armstrong having left the field, it was down to the energetic Norwegian to do most of the off the ball blocking, and to be in position to receive the out ball when needed.

And he did it very well, proving that there is a player in there still, and we might get back the one from last year yet.

In fact, I’ll say it again, the passing and movement at pace yesterday was as good as anything this season. And I’m looking forward to the Dundee game, to see how the players respond now they’ve got a little bit of their confidence back.

Up front, Nadir Ciftci can count himself unlucky not to have added to his four from nine scoring ratio, he battled, he ran, and he saw a couple of efforts saved.

But he needs to be a little more disciplined. He’s a centre forward, so perhaps he should stay centre, and forward.

On one occasion he won the ball out wide, and crossed to , well, no-one, because he wasn’t where he was supposed to be.

I stayed off social media last night, more so than usual, as the usual suspects were still demanding the removal of the management, some of the players and probably the guy ho drives the bus as well, but that wasn’t bad yesterday, and when all is said and done, theres still a point and a game in hand between Celtic and Aberdeen.

There has been a lot of talk in the media regarding a number of players heading out on loan in January.

Aye, okay.

So far, only Tyler Blackett is leaving, and thats because he’s shite.

Again, whoever saw this guy in Manchester, and thought he could do a job at Celtic, needs to be sat down and explained exactly what his remit is, because there is no way anyone with even the slightest talent for spotting a players potential could have seen anything in Blackett.

It wouldn’t make any sense to loan out players now, with the champions League qualifiers only a few months away, and anyone who has a mortgage or rent to pay will tell you exactly how short a month really is.

We keep anyone who is any good, get rid of anyone who isn’t, and add a couple who might make a difference.

Piece of piss this management lark.

Now, can anyone tell me what this is…

Here it is again, after allegedly being confiscated by a police officer at the game yesterday..

Embedded image permalink

Without googling it, I wonder how many of you genuinely recognised it. I certainly didn’t, and its just that I wonder of the officer did either.

I caught an article in the Huffington Post earlier today, which discussed the concept behind the description “Orwellain “, used often to describe nation states, institutions and anything else which has been accused of totalitarianism.

This bit, however, somehow made me think of the SFA, a little nation state within a nation state.

While most people equate the book with the ever-watching tele screens or the ominous presence of Big Brother, what I came to realize, reading the book, is that it is actually about history, or rather, the control of history. The narrative.

“He who controls the past controls the future,” O’Brien tells Winston Smith. “And he who controls the present controls the past.”

There, in a one line, is the real essence of Nineteen Eighty-four. It is about the power of historical narrative. History becomes the rationale for virtually every political or economic decision that is made, regardless of the impact. And the person who can ‘control’ the past, decide what the ‘true history’ was, controls the future.

Full article here, its worth a look;

1984 all over again

Historical narrative. Supported by a compliant media.

History has taught us we weren’t paranoid enough, and on that basis, maybe its time to make our voices heard in this Orwellian theatre, and the crowd should remove the actors from the stage.

Theres more football today, as the top of the table clash in the first divsion takes place at Ibrox. If you’re out that way, take care on the roads as the locals are already heading to the ground.

Especially when you take into account what appeared in the Greenock Telegraph- something which had been noted in the Diary previously, but not in the mainstream media, who will now no doubt be sure to pick up on it…

MORTON chairman Douglas Rae has hit out at the Rangers fans who he says hurled objects including a Buckfast bottle into the away section at Ibrox a fortnight ago.

According to the Golden Casket chief, items including coins, pies, golf balls and the tonic wine container all rained down on the Ton travelling support as their side claimed a surprise 2-2 draw in Govan.

Writing in his programme notes for the match with Raith, he said: “Regrettably we were unable to hold onto our lead when Rangers equalised with five or six minutes of the match remaining.

“It was still a wonderful day, one which I am sure will be fondly remembered for a long, long time. Our match with Rangers was the first match at Ibrox this season that Rangers did not win.

“Regrettably, some Rangers fans were not at all pleased and resorted to pelting the Morton fans with coins, pies, Bovril, and even golf balls.

“In addition, a Buckfast bottle was hurled into the Morton section which missed a young Morton fan by inches. That was a sad end to an exciting match.”

Chief executive Gillian Donaldson confirmed the club had contacted Rangers and Police Scotland regarding the incidents in question.

She told the Tele: “We were contacted by a couple of supporters regarding incidents that took place during the Rangers game. We followed them up with both Police Scotland, who are investigating the matter, and Rangers, who have advised that they are reviewing procedures.

“We, as a club, have also offered any help and support we can to them regarding the incidents.”

Anyway, wish me luck. i’m starting out on a new business venture, i’ve just heard about some cheap land;

Anyhoo, I’m glad that Christmas malarkey is all over and done with. Maybe its because the kids are all grown up it doesn’t have the same feeling to it. When i was out getting the wifes present a couple of days ago, I was in a supermarket, which had a santa, and some elfs, amnd some goblins and all the other things you’d associate with the time of year.

I couldn’t find what i wanted, so asked one of santa’s helpers to,er. help.

He ignored me, not once but twice, and when I got a bit irate, as i have been known to do, he let loose with a string of expletives usually only heard by whoever has to play alongside Dedryck Boyata.

As I reeled back , stunned, it was fortunate I remembered he was only playing a character, and as a result, probably didn’t mean any of it.

But you can’t be too  careful, and I went to customer services and reccomended that next year  they do away with the GofuckyoursElf

Got to love your optimism. Champions league qualifiers. Lolz. Other teams haven’t come up to our level, we have gone down to theirs. This learning that Ronnie goes on about, when will it extend to closing out games professionally from winning positions?
Yesterday’s game was entertaining in the same way a night with a big girl is, fun and a bit all over the place and sweaty, but you come away feeling a bit soiled and embarrassed and would rather not be doing it so often.
We are not getting any better under Ronnie, nice guy or no.

Morning Ralph,
I was a lot happier with the performance yesterday, the all round performance of the team was better, the tempo, players looking motivated and passing the ball accurately.
I was disappointed to see the equaliser go in at the end, but as Jeff Lebowski would have said, ” Hey, fuck it man “.
Loved the pass from Mcgregor to Bitton, if Callum can keep that kind of stuff up he should stay in the team.
Efe? As usual my heart sank seeing him come on but fair play to the big fella, he played really well, well done Efe!
If Brown and Griffiths were in the side yesterday I think all three points would have headed home along the M8.

Transfer window? Like I said yesterday, we require experienced campaigners going forward, in the words of Bricktop ( snatch) we need a few ” Orrible cunts ” in the team, old fashioned dirty bastards, like Roy Aitken or Mick Mccarthy.
We need leaders who will come in there, pull folks socks up and kick arses.
We play pretty silky football at times, twinkle toe stuff, but in among that we need a couple of hard bastards, we are over dependant on Brown and Griffiths.
We need a Bobo Balde at the back and a John Hartson up front, get yer fucking head and elbows in there, elbows as in part of the anatomy, not that fuck Lee Mcculloch!

Ronny Deila?
What is going to be with Ronny is going to be, like you all know I’m far from convinced he is the right man, but I want to concentrate now on backing the team, we must stick together and fight to get better.

Ronny, if you want to save yourself, get it right in the window this time.
Go for experience, go for fighters and leaders, there is a good squad in there, they need help.

Time to put the bite back into your play Celtic, time to step it up!

Hail Hail!

pretty much agree with you there monti. this transfer window will make or break Ronny but as you say, experience is what is needed.
plus point of yesterday is Boyata getting injured…..after he went off we looked much more solid at the back.
up front though, and as much as he tried….Ciftci just isnt good enough.

Not a nice comment that, Boyata is struggling but I don’t want to see our players injured, and worse, our own fans welcoming injuries.

it was a bit of tongue and cheek, obviously its not nice to see him being injured but my point was that after he was off we looked much better at the back and we will be better with him out of the team and sadly an injury was the only way to get him out of the team so on that aspect that is why it was good that he got injured.

mike

Lustigs been carrying a hip injury for some time and this without doubt is holding him back.Brown is frankly overplayed and its beginning to show, same with mulgrew.
We need to sort out the defence we are too soft been saying that for a year.
We must buy a good striker a hard dominint centreback and a young Broonie if we dont we are going to be bullied all over the shop by shite teams, wise up and get it sorted.

“On one occasion he won the ball out wide, and crossed to , well, no-one, because he wasn’t where he was supposed to be.”
Hehe I had my father in law round he decided to take in the game (Preston Supporter) I tuned to him and said what the fuck he’s doing out there crossing balls in is beyond me he’s the one supposed to be knocking them in?
On the competitiveness of the League the fact of the matter is the gap between us and them has decreased this Season as it has for the past 2.
The simple fact of the matter is our side consists mainly of free or cheap imports from the SPFL or lesser Leagues.
Aberdeen never let anyone go last Season they ADDED strength in key areas they deemed weak.
Wee lost our entire Central Defence going into the Season.
We have had to bed in 2 young defenders whilst coping with further loss through injury to Mulgrew Janko and Lustig.
The subsequent loss of form of both Lustig and Izzy just made matters worse.
Yet we still maintain a grip albeit a slight one on the Table as it stands going into the next window.
I agree on Ambrose the guy can defend and defend well most of the time sure he has had a few high profile wobbles in the past but the fact remains he has a wealth of experience and has played against the Worlds best at Celtic and for his Country and played very well on the whole.
His 50 International caps and 148 Games for Celtic testimony to that.
His only wobble came in the first few minutes as he misread the bounce on a long ball?Being out for so many weeks probably never helped mind but his recovery was excellent and he still managed to get in a wee shove as the striker let fly a bit of nouse there by Efe just did enough to unsettle him,how many would have jumped in and perhaps made matters much worse?
Boyata should be Efe’s understudy not the other way around.

Charlie Saiz,
When you look at the other premier league teams they have compensated for there short budget by bringing in big physical players. You are right about Aberdeen they have a settled team.
With van dykes sale there should be enough in the kitty at least to sort out the defence although i dont beleive that Efe or Boyata are the answer,im certainly with monti on the Bobo type hard man player.
Big Jocks team would never be bullied not with Mc Neil,Murdoch or wee Berti, neither would MONs.Lennons also.
I will reserve judgement till Feb.
Happy New Year when it comes.

Was working yesterday so had to listen on the radio, the commentary is so anti-Celtic but this is Scotland after all, you just can’t really tell how the team is playing because all they want is a defeat for the Tic. Watched the so-called highlights package when I got home, it’s absolute shite. Have to disagree with you Monti on Roy Aitken. Hard yes, dirty never. What I would call a leader of men.

I don’t see what Forrest contributed yesterday in a positive sense? Is it enough to beat a couple of men run into the corner and lose the ball ? He did not set up one chance for the team he keeps coming inside to shoot and is either blocked off or shoots at the keeper . He did not merit his place in the team yesterday and needs to up his game. ☘☘☘

I Disagree. It is my opinion that ALL of our players when used as inverted wingers need to spend more time with a solid technical coach crossing with their weaker foot. Just when Forrest started putting in solid crosses with his right foot on the right side they moved him to the left. FFS presumably he is under instruction to cut in and shoot. He tries too hard though he should just cross the bloody ball onto an imaginary head in the to corner.

Devoy45

Efe is better than Boyata. Forrest must always start if he is fit. If Griffiths isn’t available, who could get us a goal? Always, Kris Commons.Like the Morecombe/Wise sketch: the notes are all there but not necessarily in the right order. We have a good player pool but need to have everybody playing in the right position.
I would go:
Gordon
Janko/Ambrose/Simunovic/Tierney
Bitton/McGregor
Forrest/Rogic/Commons
Griffiths
We must win at Dundee but I don’t care how. After that, the Sheep have two tough away games. We are much better on the road than they are. When is the Hamilton game re-scheduled for? Factors for the future: getting Mulgrew and Brown back. Getting Johansen back to the player he can be, likewise Mackay-Steven, January transfer window.

The performance was poor, the midfield were out-muscled and dispossessed constantly, Cifti was ineffective and two wonder saves from Gordon kept us in the game.

The Macari comparison is fair comment in my opinion as there is 10 points between us and Hearts and there was 10 points between us and Kilmarnock and Macari got a 2-2 at Rugby Park.

delbhoy

Cifti is not a centre forward hence why he was not there to recieve the ball in the middle. Armstrong is not a left winger and mcgeggor is not a centre mid player.

maybe if ronny starts playing players in there positions he will get my support

Charlie Saiz

Reply to  delbhoy

Armstrong is off form he looked fine out there last season and he has played out there for United in the past.
McGegor can play right across the middle comfortably he also played in the 10 role at Notts County so he’s versatile.
Looked very comfortable yesterday again.
Ciftci I agree with he should be playing as the supporting striker in a front two but until that happens he’s backup for Griffiths when injured.
Injuries have caused Deila to swap things about when Brown, Commons and Griffiths return we will see a more settled setup.

Charlie Saiz

We have Janko Mulgrew Brown Commons and Griffiths to come back into the reckoning these are key men missing from key areas.
With improved form from Lustig Johansen and Armstrong this will increase our potency throughout these guys need to play for us to be able to play the way Deila wants.
I we can shed a few hangers on and add say a solid CB and finisher then I think Ronny can start to mess with set ups and formations but right now we are restricted by these absences.
Christie should bring in a bit of pace and a bit of guile in the hole All an will also add a bit of guile as well this is not an area we are struggling in.
I don’t think we need worry about wingers when we have wingbacks doing that job anyway so long as the delivery is right and they are giving us width it makes no odds if Forrest or GM-S are on fire every week?
They become more relevant when we want/need to alter shape etc.

Not sure how you come to the conclusion that other SPL teams have improved and not us going backward. To me the evidence suggests it is us that have gone backwards. How do we judge this? I think only Scottish performances in Europe give us an idea. No Scottish team made it through the qualifiers yet again and we gave our worst European campaign in ages. We went backwards in Europe and the others stood still. So with regards the league we are so close IMO because we are a pale shadow of the team we once were. How many of our present team would have got on Mon or GS or even NL team? Broonie and anyone else? I doubt it.

Dont shut up bgbhoy,
You are correct,Mcginn couldnt lace Jamsirs boots.
Aberdeen only struggle when Jonny Hayes is injured,a big part of Aberdeens success is down to bringing in Calleys players,Hayes,Shinnie and Rooney, now that that well has dried up he has to look elsewhere.

James is injury prone ,seldom plays well 3 games on the bounce and his final delivery is questionable to say the least.

1 injury in 12 months now… the one thing i can say about deila is he knows how to get a player fit!! still, james shone for us in euurope this years and imo plays well more than not…hes a scapegoat and is played out of position alot! big goals in big games.. turned the league cup final on its head, scores a goal away to moscow, saved lennys job at killie and his goal with a broken ankle got us into the ucl group stages

Jamesy has had lots of injuries and hasn’t consistently been in the team because of these were mcginn is playing regularly. Forrest is one of the few players we have who attacks and don’t forget his important European goals.

Just woke up, will join the thread. Yesterday the team were average, if they had someone to put away chances we could have been two or three up within twenty minutes, then the final score could hav been entertaining. Both the goals scored by Biton and Rogic were class where was Ciiftci, he deserves far more criticism than Jamsie.
As for the quality refereeing yesterday surprised that he did not fashion a penalty for the wee Huns. His booking of Efe, oh wait a minute did he no only book Celtic players was sad, a clown in black.
The problem with this team is as said before they do not know how to close a game Down.
Hearts were not reall deserving of a draw Celtic donated it to them, ouch well I suppose that s the Christmas spirit.
A Happy New Year to Ralph and all the contributors.

I agree Ralph, I cannot fathom how Delia’s overlooking Allan in favour of Forrest who consistently flatters to deceive, running around like a headless chicken. At least McGinn can score regularly, does Jamesie actually know where the goalposts are?

Charlie Saiz

McGinn was showing signs of getting in among the goals just before we let him go.
He’s direct and can put a good ball in as well as finish fairly efficiently when in the box.
he also averages nearly 40 games a Season.

Away to the jam farts is not an easy gig, but they rode their luck with both goals, I have said it many times, the whole management team our out of their depth, you go 2-1 up, take off the goal scorer who is pumping after scoring and rearrange the midfield, who does that…oh yeah, our inexperienced coaching staff, that’s the difference between holding on to the lead or letting the other back in….

I’ve decided to also put my ‘eternal optimist’ hat on.

As such I am assuming talk of Ambrose being in the 1st team applies to the final game before another transfer window opens.

I’m hoping the team that takes the field in the New Years Galsgow Derby is the following;

Gordon
New signing
New signing
Simunovic
Bitton
New signing
New signing

Not the finished article? He is 24 years old when is he going to be finished ? McGrath is 29 and in the twighlight of his career James should be peaking now but he still cannot consistently assist the team . I love to see Forrest driving on beating players but I am equally disappointed when he fails to do the damage his play should provide.to the oppition.☘☘☘

Dan,
You appear to have little tactical knowledge or positional sense, let me educate you on this side of the game.
If you have four defenders who can defend well first and foremost and two holding midfield players, that’s effectively 6 outfield players on the park primarily to protect our goal, you with me?
Your two wide players Forrest and Mcgeady are used to provide width and delivery into the box, supplied by Brown and Bitton, getting it now?
Mcgeady and Forrest will still have to put a shift in to help their respective full backs.
Griffiths and another proven striker up front.

It isn’t difficult football.

You did not grasp the point again, neither JF or McG have the will to track back when needed and they cannot tackle as shown by Forrest against Hearts leaving their fullbacks exposed. You can play one or the other but not both.☘☘☘

I am glad that cap is there. Boarlicker waste of money.
This New Signing list is not what one would expect from someone that is part of The Celtic Support. I hear there are clubs in England, Spain, Italy and one in Turkey that can do things like that perhaps being a fan of one of those clubs would help get that out of your system. Then you could get on with being a part of Celtic’s Proud Support.

ewanbhoy

Bringing old players back never really works so I would be against bringing mcgeady back.
Top priorities are an experienced CH, a powerful and creative midfielder and a tall and quick striker who is good in the air …..a new spine to our team.

I would love to know what we wasted on Boerrigter I initially understood it was close to £3m but understand now it may have been £1m?
If it’s a £1m you can see why it was worth the punt because when fit he is a tidy player.

Watch this and you will notice a number of things.
1) Forrest scores from both the right and the left.
2) The Striker is playing deeper (false 9) and actually passes the ball (unlike someone)
3) Most of these goals are scored from a counter attack (can’t play counter attack football with a crap defence)
5) Only a couple of these are assists (one on one he normally wins)

So basically we can see from this when deployed as part of a counter attacking system Forrest flourishes (I bet GMS would too). Unfortunately due to issues with our defense we cannot sit deep and then break. Our best tactic to stop goals is to keep the opposition in their 18 yd box. Although I am beggining to wonder if we could just p play the counter attack anyway and see if we score more than them.

Andy,
When you see that it proves what a versatile winger with a fantastic touch can do. That shows how good he is, Hayes and Mcginn, both good players,do not have that talent.
Looking back at that team it could make you greet,it shows how far we have regressed.

Doesnae matter what line up we start with, until he changes the system to a 4,4,2 its gonna be the same, lackluster up front and exposed at the back! Hardly anyone is in form, we constantly chop and change, one good game and a player is the answer, a bad one and they should be sent out on loan! We all have our favourites and thats our privelage as fans, but it shouldnt matter what we think cause a strong manager should be able to get the best out of all his players in a system that entertains as well as gets the results, at the moment we are doin neither, we have a decent squad capable of much more than the last 18 months has shown so come on ronny, drop the ego and lets get this treble sorted with a bit of style that the fans deserve! Hail Hail
