We’ve had a lot of criticism of Ronny deila over the past few weeks, and everyone has offered their tuppence worth on what he’s doing wrong. One of ronny’s biggest critics has been regular contributor Monti, and he’s decided we should take the criticism to a more constructive level. ( Some hope-Ed ).
I’ve decided to take time out from Ronny and Johnny bashing for the moment, and indulge in a bit of pretendy football manager.
Something I’ve accused Ronny of beong, I suppose.
Some have mentioned that he should maybe stand his ground a little more, and demand his own backroom staff, and perhaps also stand up to the board and not let them sell his key players from under him as he is trying to put a side together that we can , if not be confident, then at least optimistic of regular group stage Champions league football.
So, who is the one he should have put his neck out for, or , who should he try to get back, given that the player in question will know all about the club, and would be able to slip back in where he left off, and of course, we are willing a little suspension of disbelief in that the player wants to come back, at an affordable wage to the club ?
And why ?
The only condition is that he is still involved in professional football at some level.
Who would that player be, how would he immediately improve things and why would you bring him back?
I will kick it off because it’s my ba’ so to speak, maybe an obvious one here but i’d bring back Virgil Van Dijk.
Why would I bring him back?
The central defence badly needs organising and an imposing figure at the back. And he’s been missed. The player was respected by his fellow team mates, and even Craig Gordon is a little lost without him.
And now we are weak in this area, the European campaign has shown we are susceptible to giving opponents a break or two even if they don’t put much pressure on us.
All quality sides are built from the back, and it looked as though we had the defence more or less sorted towards the end of last year, and the unrest around his future may have led to a little confusion in the qualifiers this year.
Get him back, and get him organising!
So there you go, Virgil Van Dijk is back in the Hoops!
Now it’s your turn.
Who would you bring back?
Wanyama in a minute! The big man would provide the brawn for the likes of allan
Vic is absolutely awesome and I was surprised one of the big two or 3 in England didn’t snap him up, that should happen soon though!
Love to see him back one day!
ki seung Yeung
Ki has the key ( pun intended) to unlock the oppositions bus door, a good player with an eye for goal.
Good shout!
Pointless exercise. Ronny’s non-existent man-management skills are likely even to turn the King of Kings into an also-ran player. The only thing that can start improvement is Deila’s immediate removal.
Stevie Clarke for me.
Cecil,
It’s just a wee bit of fun m8….come on, join in!
No matter who it is, when you can triple or quadruple your wages your going to take it. If we made into the CL group stages he ‘might’ have stayed for another year(?). Celtic still offers the opportunity to young unheard of, but talented footballers. That if they are successful, they can make a name for themselves on the world stage. Giving young talented Scottish Bhoys the chance to live the dream would be my preferred option. Celtic just doesn’t need to be a ‘stepping stone’ in can be a ‘dream-maker’ to. HH
Schoosh,
I think your not getting the vibe of this thread…..
I tell you one thing though, if I was good enough or lucky enough to have played for Celtic in my youth, I wouldn’t have played for any other club, no matter the wages were on offer!
Shunsuke Nakamura, simply class.
Genius!
Nothing more to say than that!
That free kick against Manchester utd in the CL at Paradise, ( remember that competition)?
Get’s better every time you see it!
Aye, and he’s still doing it now.
I have to agree with Cecil…
Unless its just for a bit of “light banter”.. its a pointless excercise.
All is does for me is remind us of the quality players we have lost…and I really don’t want to be reminded.
Its time everyone involved with the Club started looking forward..and that includes having a new manager.
I’m not usually a “grump” but I am seriously pissed off with what’s going on at the moment…and the game tomorrow will be a big test..St.Johnstone know how to play us…and THEIR Manager knows what he’s doing.. it seems to me.
Light banter it is Mike….
Ralph,
Is this what weve come to. fantasy football? why? because the Board wont invest, the managers pish and the players are poor because of the previous.Lustig,Mulgrew and Brown are more often than not injured, more because of international football than club. There are a few good players and some poor we know who they are.The board have to invest or all the football we will be watching will be Domestic.Celtic are better than that.its been proven,so lets have an article on Investment and how we can pressurise the Board and leave the fantesy football to the Weans.
wanyama, every day of the week.
Colossus!
Completely stupid post – VVD is probably on £50k a week, no chance he will come back. A new manager needed, I wanted Lambert but obviously not now so get the king of kings in and I will be back at Celtic park for every game. Had my season ticket for 28 years and haven’t been back after the Malmo game. Ronnie clueless! The fans will come back when he goes, completely out of his depth at our club. Peter get your finger out and back a new manager with your cheque book!
Franco,
It’s just a light hearted thread, it is possible to have a bit of Craic without getting into the heavy stuff all the time.
Steve Guppy as a player / coach. Our players cannot fucking cross a ball to save themselves. That guy could cross with 6 inches of space and if he couldn’t directly hit Chris Sutton he did it via the woodwork.
Aye OK then…
Charlie Tully.
Got to be an ex- player who is still playing at the top mate!
du wei and oliver tebily would probably be an improvement in defence, give them a call lawell!! we develop telent after all
Monti
I am just sick of the shite from Charlie saiz backing this guy. I want my club back, in the CL and not embarrassing ourselves. A full stadium and moving forward. Is this too much to ask for!
Franco,
Charlie Saiz is entitled to his opinions mate, if he want’s to back Deila then let him, he has that right of choice.
Franco,
You want the same things as me my friend, but the team needs investment, heavy investment!
Surprised no one has mentioned the likes of Gary Hooper..
you took the words right out of my mouth, naw im not singing in the bath, bring back gary along with griff we wouldnt need a defence and throw in joe ledley anaw,
Pat,
The two of those good would make us stronger!
we played better and more exciting stuff under john barnes!!!!
Ah wiz trying to inject some humour Monti…
OK…
Denayer…brilliant player.
Indeed Mike,
Quality player!
wisny ours!
Gie’s a break ffs…ah’m tryin’ ma best…
Any one of VVD Wanyama LEDLEY or Hooper, better than anything we have at the present time .Seems that most of the Bhoys on this site have lost their sense of humour.
That’s what following Celtic diz fur ye Tex…:0).
Hail hail
Delilah has turned Celtic into a boring pass the ball team. The team do not talk to one another especially in defence. The goalkeeper should command his area and shout instructions to his defenders.
When a full back charges up the park he team should be constructed so that a midfield player covers, or the other full back.
Far to frequently the defence is found out of position and charging back in panic.
This current management team are technically unaware, as we have some good players.
What we sorely lack is a better formation, this playing Griffiths on his lonesome is a farce. The team has no night upfront, in defence no leader.
We do not have to spend mega bucks bringing back Virgil, although that would be nice.
We require a couple of old heads In defence, Reynolds of ABZ could be an option!
For me Nakamura, Wanyama and Virgil. Nice try at a bit of friendly speculation Monti, the doom and gloom brigade must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed mate.
Exactly!
I don’t know why that is BB, I mean I’m always happy 🙂
Wanyama…no question bout that….hope the real football experts out there who couldn’t kick their arses are still pouting their hot air!
Big Vic seems to be on most folks lips mate….metaphorically speaking….ahem.
For me it has to be Di Canio he could take on 2 -3 players and also pass a ball. Even though it did end on a sour note I would have in the squad right now.
Jason Denayer over VVD any day..
HH
Joe ledley
Ian,
I liked Joe, very intelligent player!
Viduka anf larsson with di canio virgil and skippy on yhe bench
A ridiculous waste of time. Concentrate on the Manager with the worst European record in Celtic,s history instead.
Real Liam,
Look upon it as a short ceasefire rather than a waste of time.
Big Vic every time along with either Martin o Neill, Gordon Strachan or Neil Lennon!
Fireman Sam, he can put the flares oot
stokes
bobby the buzzbgomb lennox the best player the world has ever see
Monti arsenal are after big vic in the window and we have a ten percent cut I hear.
How about peter the pointer grant in midfield
ma da used to say to my 11 year old self god or lennox charlie and it was lennox every time ha ha
i see the smsm are givig the little zombies more feel good bedtime stories they deserve our pity ha ha
Bwahahahahaha!!!!!!!, Morton have just scored to make it 2-1
Bet you the mason in the black adds 10 mins injury time
Kelvin Wilson?
I’m sure we have spoken about him in the past Charlie, after a difficult start he produced the goods.
Decent shout!
Kelvin Wilson
has the warbmiester respectfully lost the magic hat and dressing room ha ha
Hot off the press, Warburton’s interview (probably)
Without being disrespectful, and I say this respectfully, we gave Morton too much respect.
ha ha
monti i dont want to send you aff on wan but what about mark reynolds fae aberdee ha ha
I don’t rate him m8!
its aw about opinions mate who you going for in the boxing and ufc
Boxing? UFC?
cricfree boxing
the sports weekend starts now first the boxing then the ufc then the great glasgow celtic tomorrow fucking majic
What about big lurch lads, Fraser Forster?
Aidan Mcgeady?
I know Aidan get’s a bit of stick for his final delivery, but I just felt he had that wee bit extra bit of class on the ball.
Ralph,
What about yourself, who would you like to see back at Celtic?
Nakamura a good shout. Wanyama and Ki as well Personally though I’d have Joe Ledley.
Thank God for Charlie Said and the rest of the realists. There are a number of facts that cannot be argued about.
1. Scotland was the only home nation not to qualify for the upcoming major tournament.
2. Even a team that everyone has been slaying for performances in the Europa League can sit 10 points clear of the other Scottish clubs before Christmas.
3. There are only a couple of top level outfield players in Scotland and they are hard-hitting, rough around the edges kind of players.
4.If you put 10x 5’10” wheely dustbins with guy ropes to keep them upright in an 18m box any player will find it hard to score.
So what does all of this mean?
It means that our week in week out practise is against Scottish hard hitting teams that Park the bus and still lose. That affords time in the 2nd third of the field to pass sideways and back. It gives us time to probe and pass.
Therefore the minute other teams actually press is we shit ourselves, and so comes another 5 months of teams that will Park the bus. What could Ronny possibly do to get our players quickly up to speed in time for qualification? Perhaps a gruelling pre-season against Champions League teams that raises the stature of our club and generates enough money to buy more parts to his rebuild that will need polished and greased.
I admit I agreed with him that the pre season Lenny had lived up was insanity, but you know what. Thinking about it now. It makes perfect sense.
The guy who mentoned viduka is spot on , he could def lead the line on his own, what a player! By the way i like the look of this german striker were being linked with
Monti, keep taking those friendly new tablets you’re on! Like you, what other team would I ever have played for but Celtic? Of those still playing, who would I bring back? Virgil, Wanyama, Hooper. If I had to choose one right now it would be Gary Hooper because he might be possible and would get good service. I loved Naka too. Tomorrow will be tough. St. Johnstone is on a roll and I have nervous bad vibes about the match. We need to be all over them.
Aberdeen only one point behind now, but with our two games in hand.
Gordon
Lustig/Boyata/Simunovic/Tierney
Bitton/Armstrong
Forrest/Allan/Commons
Griffiths
2-1 to the bhoys. It will be a nervous match though. Rest in peace Ian Bell. One of Scotland’s best journalists. Ian’s great grandfather was the great James Connolly’s brother. As a writer he put the MSM to shame.
I am a friendly person, I just like to tell it how it is….quickly!
luke campbell mbe got his arse kicked
Really hope armstrong does get his chance beside biton rather than out wide. Along with allan thats a good midfield
On paper maybe mate….
Armstrong has been poor this Season for me.
Bit of a headless chicken in Europe and his passing has almost deserted him.
Better as a defensive mid than out on the left.
Allan could well be Commons natural replacement in that role good that we have Christie to come too plenty of fresh ability in there with Rogic too.
Agree Charlie, that area of the park is looking fine.
I would bring back my mum, nothing ever got past her.
Ghod,Naka,Lubo……..you all know we wud conker Europe wae those 3…..no???
YES!!
Henrik as manager, Nakamura on set piece training and Lubo on taking the piss training.
Decent boot room like!
ARTUR BORUC – THE HOLY GOALIE?
Agreed. The only manager that I want to see in that dugout is Henrik, once his son is ready to play for us that is.
Sometimes I wonder about our players mindset, what is in their heads and their hearts as they pull our Hoops over their heads?
I would have taken pride in my performance for Celtic!!!!
