Celtic Diary December 1: It’s The Pantomime Season!

Anyone in or around the Aldershot area ?

There’s a game on this Friday, and if you have nothing better to do, which if you live in or around Aldershot, you probably won’t, then how about popping along to this and letting us know what you think ?

Last year the hoops lost to Manchester City on penalties, and they went on to win the competition. This year, Celtic lost the opening game 2-1 to Benfica, and now face Chelsea and Liverpool in the remaining games as they attempt to get out of the group stages.

Benfica have completed their fixtures, and won all three, Chelsea beat Liverpool so a win against Chelsea and a draw with Liverpool will see the youngsters progress.

The new policy at Celtic is to bring our own players through. This tournament is a good indicator if how well that policy is working, and anyone who can get there might be able to give us an idea of how its coming along.

Thats one thing you could have a look at this month.

Here’s another, and if I’m honest I’m not entirely sure what this is about;

Team up with the Ghirls For Good in Paradise

WITH Ghirls for Good just under two weeks away, Celtic FC Foundation are delighted to confirm that there is now limited availability and the last batch of tickets are up for grabs.

Last year’s inaugural event was a huge success and our Ghirls created a wonderful, feel-good afternoon, celebrating all that is special about the Celtic Family.

Sponsored by Enchanted Forest and Friends and hosted Kenny McKay and Lisa Hague, this year’s Ghirls for Good event takes place in the Kerrydale Suite at Celtic Park on Saturday, December 12 with arrival at 11.30am for 12noon.

The afternoon of fabulous festive fun will include:

  • a complimentary cocktail on arrival, courtesy of Perfect Parties
  • a delicious Christmas lunch
  • auction
  • silent auction
  • raffle
  • close up magic with Mark Gordon
  • live performances from Nicholas McDonald and Ryan Alexander
  • a festive DJ
  • Christmas gift stalls
  • a visit from the main man himself, Santa Claus

We will also ask each gorgeous Ghirl to bring along a gift for a local child and these will be distributed to those who are sick or disadvantaged before the sleigh bells ring on Christmas Eve.

All funds raised will support our 2015 Christmas Appeal, which reflects the very essence of why our Club was set up back in 1887. We are looking to assist around 200 local families facing poverty and hardship to provide a Christmas meal and gifts for the children and 10 charities who care for those experiencing the torment of homelessness or other disadvantage.

Tickets are priced at £45pp with tables of 10 also available at £450.

Fair enough, it’s a charity do organised by and seemingly for women . Isn’t it ?

I’m an old fashioned sort of chap, and not too clever around the fairer sex, ever since a mix up on a blind date when I misunderstood the meaning of GSOH, which apparently doesn’t stand for great set of hooters, and I’m always uncomfortable when ladies are described as gorgeous in an ad.

It’s all a bit , well, awkward for me, but no doubt it will raise money for charity and I guess thats the point.

The “silent auction ” sounds like a winner, though, as open minded as i like to think I am,  I’m a little concerned as to the content of the “close up magic with Mark Gordon ”

Mind you, perhaps i’m still a little miffed that my idea of recruiting and training Celtic cheerleaders was turned down and reported to the police.

So, Anthony Stokes.

Cardiff

£700,000.

See if you can construct a sentence with those words, and then I won’t get the blame for making stuff up.

As you are probably aware, the press have been conducting a campaign which is playing down anything Celtic and Ronny Deila achieve, and playing up anything Mark Warburton and his incarnation of the Rangers franchise manage to stumble into.

For those of you who are unaware of how the press works, first of all , have a look a this , from Private Eye;

If that doesn’t convince you, or at ;least make you think twice about the guff that transpires as news these days, try this;

So when this appeared in the Sun today, perhaps you shouldn’t take it at face value.

Although, to be fair, they are probably worried he will be pinched, and subsequently waken up and find out his time at Ibrox is not some kind of horrible dream and he’s stuck with it.

It certainly sounds like he’s dreaming here. Or at the very least, under some sort of anaesthetic;

“Everyone mentions that St Johnstone game but we have analysed it to death and it was one of those games. We had a lot of the football and didn’t put our chances away. We made a couple of individual errors and got punished on the evening.

“We would enjoy a Premiership tie, absolutely. People can hark back to the St Johnstone game all they want, we just get on with the game.

“We have had a good season to date, we are in good shape, we are confident and whoever we draw we will look forward to it.

“We were prepared then and were on a good run of form, we were scoring goals. It was just a game where we made a couple of individual errors and got punished on the night.

“They scored with a great strike from a corner, a fantastic strike that nine times out of 10 would hit Row X but hit the back of the net. It is one of those things and we learn from it. I don’t mind who we draw, we will look forward to it.”

The draw he is referring to is the draw for the fourth round of the Scottish Cup, and he will be hoping that they don’t draw a full time team, because regardless of what he says, his side aren’t up to that level of competition yet.

Though a tie , at ibrox , against Celtic, would certainly help the bank balance.

Thankfully, though, there is no chance of that happening as it is an open draw and the chances of the two coming out of the hat together are minimal.

Meanwhile, the SFA have announced who will be helping them pull the names out of the hat today…

I’m not hinting at corruption…its difficult to keep outside influences away from sport.

Look at the boxing. We hear that there may be an investigation into possible fixing in the Fury-Klitschko fight after it was revealed the big Ukrainian just had a new drive done.

Still with the papers, and Tommy Boyd has been showing why he won’t be getting a gig with any of them anytime soon.

He’s been talking about the gap betwen Warburtons wonders and Celtic.

And he was a little more realistic, as you would expect, than most;

“It will be two or three years for them to get up and running to compete at the level Celtic are at.

“Yes, Rangers are a better team than last season but look at Hearts. They’re eight points behind and Celtic are still a better team than them.

Common sense . Reality. Truth , even ?

They don’t like the truth over there, and as a consequence the Herald doesn’t want to give it to them.

Confirmed: Rangers oldco liquidators formally take ‘Big Tax

Case’ to a Supreme Court appeal

Waheyyy! They’re cheering the liquidators now !

Wee Arra Peepil!

Embedded image permalink

Er, no. Not quite.

They’re going to ask a couple of judges if there is any chance of they can appeal, an entirely different thing altogether.

Still, it keeps the hordes happy until Kings contempt of court hearing next Tuesday, and of course, should the appeal be denied, then at least BDO can say they tried.

If you are interested in the facts about whats going on, then who better to ask than Rangers Tax Case, who knows more than most, and here he points out the most important aspect of the story so far, which you won’t find in the papers.

Rangers Tax Case -The Story so Far

Mind you, if you think the Herald  is bad, have a look at who they give column space to in the Mail.

Celtic fans can’t wait for Rangers to return to the Scottish Premiership… their world has become meaningless without them

  • Celtic’s world has become meaningless without Rangers to compete with
  • But their supporters will never admit that they want Rangers to return
  • Celtic being top of the table means nothing without Rangers by their side

It’s Adrian Durham !

Hang on…

Somewhere, theres a ginger haired chap sweet talking ladies into an evenings entertainment.

He has to be stopped.

By any means necessary. He is a clear and present danger.

Anyhoo, as Matt Lindsay usually fills the world with shite, Durham wants to grasp the title of most annoying strawberry blonde back, and he does it by producing more shite than a bus load of drunks after a curry.

I heard a tragic story recently about a man who had a beautiful and loving wife, but who couldn’t see the good in her. He longed for his single life, and so he sought a divorce, got one, and celebrated his new life on his own without the woman who had annoyed him so much.

Fast forward a few years and the man is a broken shell of what he used to be. His existence has become pointless. He still maintains he was right and that his life is good, but literally everyone either laughs at him or pities him.

That sad man in denial is Celtic Football Club. They will never be man enough to admit it, but they didn’t realise just how meaningless their world would be without their closest neighbour, Rangers.

I’m not going to reproduce the rest of his ramblings, suffice to know they don’t get any better, and thats because he’s talking about something he doesn’t know anything about.

Not that that would stop him, but he specialises in getting a reaction, and perhaps I shouldn’t react, but then I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to offer my opinion, since he accuses me of not being man enough to admit i miss the hordes of darkness.

So, heres an open message to Durham;

Now, please tell me what is going on here, at a Second Rangers training session…

Billy McNeill used to or still does write a colum for ‘ The Sun ‘….is anyone going to have a go at our greatest ever captain, for giving his views on the game?

We all know the media in this country are a joke, but it seems to be like anyone who say’s something against our club is Anti-Celtic?

Utter shite.

No enough is said of our board for example, but woe betide it’s Chris Sutton that say’s it.

I’ve never had a problem with Celtic being criticised as long as it’s merited.

A wee question to the fans who think winning domestically means very little, if sevco get promoted does that make it more of an achievement winning in Scotland ?…..guarantee you the media will think so.
As for me, I have not been fooled into believing shite like that. Winning the league and the cups is what Celtic is all about and I love it.

Well yes it does. Do you support football to see your team win things (no matter where they play) or to see them as also rans in a competition alongside names such as

Fulham
Basel
Osasuna
Middlesbrough
Dnipro
Braga

all of whom were at least semi finalists in Europa League over last 10 years. If it’s to see your team increase their standing in Europe in terms of respect and recognition I would argue it didn’t do much for the teams listed above…..and some of them were finalists not just semi finalists! Didn’t do much for improving them as a team either given half of them have since been relegated. Can throw the Huns into the mix there if you want.

So yes, I would like it explained to me please

You should never take winning for granted and always enjoy winning titles and cups.

We all would love to do great things in Europe but the gap is huge between us and the big league teams.
Europe is a bonus and when we do beat the big teams it is amazing but realistically we can’t compete with them anymore, well not until a European super league starts.

Yes this season we have been poor in Europe, the main reason is that our players haven’t been good enough, the Scottish game is now of a lower standard than Scandinavian countries and this is something we must put right but sadly there is no magic wand to make it happen and we can’t buy in success either. We are at the start of a long road but we will get there eventually, it will take time .
This is the reality of European football right now, we might not like it but it is what it is.

ewanbhoy, another ally on site. We have to win at home before we can even get into Europe.Like many fans, I can’t even afford to watch our club in Europe but I can at least support them at Celtic Park.
My Sevco neighbour tells me: “any idiot can win the League now that Gers aren’t in it” and many on this site have bought into that. That’s so that Celtic and its fans have NOTHING left. Here’s the deal: if we teach our young players how to win (at home) they might carry that into Europe. Many of our young players have never won anything yet anywhere. I think Allan, Mackay-Steven, Armstrong, Tierney and others will be rightly chuffed to win a cup or League despite what Sevco tells us, along with the MSM, Packy, Chris, Alec McLeish, etc. It’s shameful that so many Tims have bought into that idea that ONLY Europe counts. Winning is the Celtic Way and we have to begin where we are. Our team is competing fairly whilst paying its taxes to education and health services. Auld Rangers won several titles whilst cheating yet our own fans are telling us that our league and cups are rubbish whilst the Huns get away with what they did.
Speaking of Rubbish. Scottish Cup Draw today at 2 p.m.. Will anybody be surprised if we draw Aberdeen away whilst Sevco get Inverurie at Ibrox? Call me a paranoid auld Fenian bastard but….

Ewanbhoy, Devoy and all the rest who scoff at European football success for the club…..Peter Lawwell tells the world ” Celtic are a Champions league club” he tells us ” Champions league qualification is the primary aim at the start of each season”….
So don’t have a go at fans like me or Andybhoy who want that same thing for the club.
I have said before, if Celtic were to win the treble every year for the next 10 years and NOT qualify for the CL in any of those 10 seasons…..that would be ABJECT FAILURE!

No one in Spain, Italy, France or Germany will remember or talk about Celtic for winning domestic cups, doubles or trebles….Prestige, memories, finance and the clubs profile only raises when success in Europe is a fact.
When Celtic beat a Barcelona or Manchester Utd or a Juventus in the CL, the club is exposed to worldwide recognition and interest in the club will naturally follow.
If we want to attract higher calibre of players to Celtic, we have to offer them the CL and good wages.
Do you all not want to see the club fulfil it’s potential?
For fuck sake wake up out of your slumber!

People like Roy Keane are telling you ” Celtic should be in the CL every year ”
Sir Alex Ferguson tells you ” Manchester United can’t cope with Celtic on a global scale ” are you not fucking listening??

Fuck the treble, they can stick their league cup on a Diddy clubs mantlepiece.
THIS IS CELTIC AND WE ARE BIG TIME…..BUT WE ALL HAVE TO DEMAND IT OF THE BOARD TO PLACE THE CLUB IN THE CL, WHATEVER IT TAKES!

some of you fellow fans need to look in the mirror…..you are happy to accept failure, and failure is what is coming.
Not long now until Fenerbahce game tho…
See some more ” developing ” will we?

Who’s turn is it to tell the watching fans ” we just didn’t turn up tonight”?

Johansen? With his fucking gloves and hair band?

Deila is an embarrasment and so are Desmond and Lawwell
…get them to fuck!

I’m not scoffing at European football, we all want to be there and doing well, who wouldn’t ?
All I am doing is being realistic about the current situation. We are miles behind the cream of Europe now and no matter who is our manager that is not going to change.
Football has financially changed so much lately that it is now almost impossible for us to complete at the top level. We don’t have the money to even come close and this is why we are now looking to develop our own and build a team up, which will take time and I know you don’t like that but what else can we do right now ? Scandinavian and eastern European countries have been doing this and doing pretty well but it has taken them years to build their teams up.

“TO DEMAND IT OF THE BOARD TO PLACE THE CLUB IN THE CL, WHATEVER IT TAKES!”

This will lead us the way of Oldco!!!

Is that what you really want?

Celtic do not have the resources anymore to even try and compete at that level…. This is why there is so much talk of development and copying the Ajax way.

We (Tims) have to be patient, if you want to support a club that spends out with its means there is a mob across the city that might suit you more.

I for one want RD to succeed with his “Plan” and am willing to give him atleast until next seasons qualifiers.

We all dream of that but sadly the reality of it is a different story.
We can’t compete financially even with the English championship never mind the big league teams.
This is why we are now trying to produce our own talent from the youths but this will take years of development.
We need UEFA to change the format and introduce European super leagues so that we can start making the same kind of money as the big teams do.
Until then domestic football is our bread and butter. I remember in the 90’s when we won nothing for 6 years and I promised myself that I will enjoy every title and cup we win to the max and I haven’t broken that promise as I appreciate and savour every success we have.

2 of my best memories and experiences came in 1988, being in the jungle watching us beat Dundee 3-0 to win the league, seeing the best ever you will never walk alone and being crushed in with I would estimate 90,000 fans and getting on the park at the end with the pitch invasion, and also being at Hampden in the sun watching us beat Dundee United 2-1 for the double in a crowd of 74,000….those are my memories and I wouldn’t change them for anything…….Seville was great but doesn’t come close to what I experienced in 88′

Charlie,
I was only 8 when 10 men won the League but i’d have given my left baw to have been at that game.
Love St in 85 was unbelievable, I had it on the radio and was jumping up and down on my bed like a kangaroo ( do kangaroos jump)?.

The centenary season was meant to happen for our club….and it did.

There are so many great occasions, there has also been years of misery, the monkeys doing 9 in a row cost me a couple of girlfriends during that run, and a couple of fines and a few stitches lol.
We have all seen this club strong and we have all seen Celtic weak….
I just want the club to get it right on the park, it’s more than a football team to us, it is in our hearts, our minds and our souls.
We have had plenty bad times in Europe that’s for sure, but look at our stadium when we have a team that can fight and grace our shirt, a heaving Celtic park and a quality side on the park….that is what is required and we need to fight to have those things.
There is a real nervous edge to CL games….this is our proving ground. It’s where legends are made.
Barcelona, Man Utd, Juventus and Milan, they have all lost at Celtic Park…..we need

Brainwashed! At least I don’t agree with my Sevco neighbour like many of you do. For the non-Sevconians on our site, we drew Stranraer away in the Scottish Cup. The toughest draw was Hearts vs. Aberdeen. Sevco (this will interest a lot of you)are AT HOME to Cowdenbeath. The draw took place at 2 p.m. so you’ll find the results already online. Some of my best memories as a Tim have been European nights at Celtic Park. I agree with all of you there. But we’ve had some pretty good Cup and League nights too. Let’s have both, but not by telling our players and fans that because old Rangers are dead, our competitions are dead as well. That’s pretty cruel for a Celtic fan to say.I was around in 1967 but many of you weren’t. I don’t think I’m a superior fan because of it. If you want what us old-timers had, patience is the key. Big Jock had to build a team first before he could show his face in Europe. I want you to have what we had and killing off young managers isn’t the way to do it. The Board? How were the Kellys different or better?

Fuck Patience….
That is exactly what the board want us to be like, say nothing, be patient, be gullible…

Jock done it in about the same time the present idiot has taken to destroy what he inherited,a team at the top of scottish football,in 1965 we were nowhere near winning the league until the big man arrived.
Young inexperienced managers should go to small teams and get experience, maybe ronnie should have went to sevco,he is about their standard

Regarding the Media, long may there bias continue, as no one critices King and company.
There stupidity means the sale of their papers continue to decrease, compare ten years ago circulation to date.
Tom Boyd is one of the more educated unbiased commentators, how often do you see him the media or on the Billy Boys Club.

Celtic have suspended Anthony Stokes pending an internal enquiry….for 2 tweets?

Yet our captain can get away with sitting down, drunk on an Edinburgh Street, days before a cup final?
Kris Commons also avoided punishment for publicly berating the management staff, after being substituted in a match this season.?

The dressing room is fractured!

Bgbhoy, Do you remember when AS came back a day late for training? I think that’s when the rot set in.

And another point, AS tweets were not the cleverest, understandable to a point, the kind of thing you would say to a mate but not publicly. He is not alone, footballers fall foul of this all the time.

If I was a manager I would get them to stand starkers in the changing room and get his team mates to throw mobile phones, laptops, PCs at them until they got the message.

Or is that weird? 🙂

weird aint the word mate expensives the word instead of throwing the phones i pads and pcs at him get them to throw the price of them at him tony s could collect it in a bucket and give it to peter towards the minimum wage ha ha

Seville was fantastic , we got dropped off on a bus under a big bridge early in the morning with just one or two others beside us , about five yards later was met by some guys in a van selling giant bottles of beer which they had in ice buckets, after that it’s a bit of a blur haha , when I returned late at night after the game to find my bus there was hundreds more busses there so had absolutely no chance of finding mine! Eventually blagged my way onto a random coach for herez airport , panic over , when I got to the airport I thought Christ where do I get the correct flight only to be asked by a couple of burly looking security where I was going , glasgow was to the left and prestwick to the right go! . So off I went on a random chartered flight back to scotland, what a mad but great day

We used to go to that car park for some buckie before the game. I used to struggle to find our supporters bus at Parkhead at the end. If Celtic was comfortably winning with about 20 mins to go I would sneek out to The London Road tavern (big Yogis pub) for a wee drink. Thankfully I went with two brothers and a nephew who always found me.

Charlie Saiz you are a clown!

We built our reputation in Europe playing great football with players and managers who were respected. RD is embarrassing our club globally, please admit that! Monti keep him in check as he thinks this is his forum and no person can challenge him. When we are this bad and the crowd get to 20,000 at home surely we will get a new manager

Reply to  Franco Baresi

Anyone who knows anything about European Football knows we are in a poorly funded League.
No one outside of Scotland actually gives a toss about Celtic mate (apart from Celtic fans obviously) they are too concerned with their own sides issues.
European form has always had it’s peaks and troughs for us as a Club our situation does not help on that score.
As for the rest of post well that’s not really conducive to a healthy debate is it?

Franco mate, HH I don’t think Monti feels he owns this board, he is very strong opinionated same as Charlie Saiz. Ralphie owns this board, DG, And it#s all about the fun we get from it. Do you not remember what he said a few days ago? This is not what the Diary is about?

With the Clunpany site there is no comments.

Im not saying stokes is a world beater but people on forums saying stokes is pish have short memories , he had a wonderful partnership with hooper and played well on the left. This tweet wasnt the best idea but dont you think when our captain can be pictured slumped in a street before the cup final and nothing is done, commons publicly on national tv swears at and berates the coaching staff and is just given a telling off, our striker is caught on camera and cautioned for making racist remarks and nothing is done. Stokes sends a couple of tweets that arent even abusive and is suspended. I think this looks like a case of you havnt been playing. Your not as important as the other three and i dont like you anyway so il hang you out to dry. Complete double standards , the whole situation stinks in my opinion.
