Celtic Diary Friday October 9: At Least No One Is Injured

Well, thats my Halloween sorted. I’m going as the Scotland team.

There’s no need for a costume, I’ll just head out early.

As expected, there was another glorious failure last night when Strachan took another point in the campaign, taking the total to a less than impressive twelve from nine games. Two out of the last tweleve, and for some reason people want him to stay on.

People who like to have their summers free, presumably.

Still, Leigh Griffiths never got injured, and thats all that matters.

There’s one game left in the campaign, against Gibraltar. It’s on Sunday.

As if you care.

Theres many reasons for Scotlands exit, from being in a tough group to being a work in progress and so on, but the reality is the team, the management and the governing body didn’t do enough to qualify.

The team were all too often lackadaisial, the management were devoid of inspiration and invention, whilst the SFa still think that Hamoden is an intimidating venue.

You can’t get behind your team if you can’t bloody see them.

Embedded image permalink

The SFA apologised for this scenario against Germany, but promptly repeated it last night against Poland.

If they don’t care, why should we ?

Back to Celtic, and there is news of another possible addition to the squad. John Souttar, of Dundee Utd, is the latest to be mentioned as the refugee crisis deepens in Dundee, with more and more youngsters seeking to start a new life in Glasgow.

He’s out of contract in the summer, and could well be here in January on a pre contract.

Dundee united are currently bottom of the league table. Thats because we’ve had all their players.

Former defender Virgil van Dijk, as hinted at in an earlier diary, may well have been taken out of context when he said he’d learned nothing from those fenian bastards at Celtic Park.

He tweeted that he would never disrespect Celtic and enjoyed his time at the club. and so on. And that we should not believe anything we read, especially if it’s being translated.

I was going to copy the tweet into the diary, but I got this;

You are blocked from following @VirgilvDijk and viewing @VirgilvDijk’s Tweets.

As I believe we all are.

So, whilst it is true that the press make things up to suit their own agenda, and he may well have been misquoted, he’s now going to suffer the ultimate punishment for anyone mentioned on this page, and he will now be known as virgil van dijk.

When Diary decides you are not worth having capital letters, then you know you have lost all credibility.

Speaking of the media, before the games last night, Celtics twitter timeline had a few good luck messages on it;

Which led to;

Hoops cause outrage by backing IRELAND

FURIOUS Scotland fans have hit out at Celtic after the club backed IRELAND for the win that knocked Gordon Strachan’s men OUT of Euro 2016.

Scotland’s qualifying dream died after their 2-2 draw with Poland and the Republic of Ireland’s shock 1-0 win over Germany.

If the Irish had failed to beat the world champions the Scots’ hopes would still be alive.

Or, if Scotland had got more than two points in their last four games, they would have had a chance as well.

Scotland will now miss out on yet another major finals with the Tartan Army stuck at home next summer instead of partying in France.

Before kick-off Celtic sent out a good-luck message to Martin O’Neill’s Ireland side and that infuriated Scotland fans.

There were no Celtic players in the Ireland squad.

The Hoops did also tweet their support for Scotland ahead of the Poland showdown.

But many fans – a lot of them Hoops supporters – were furious that Celts were backing another nation.

Mark Jones said: “Mon the Scotland, we’re a Scottish team no irish.”

Bizarrely, the article, by a chap called Robert Collins, who is presumably pissed off his dad named him after a Celtic legend, and the big boys at the lodge keep laughing at him because of it, goes on to name several tweeters who were outraged at the club.

They’re not worth quoting, but the article is worth mentioning.

In case you were thinking of buying the Sun.

Now you know you shouldn’t.

The Diary gives other newspapers a wee bit of stick, but also credit from time to time.

You’ll notice the Sun is rarely mentioned, largely because its a level even below the rest, which is no mean feat, and simply not worth the effort.

Unless it’s something particularly pathetic, such as this story.

Well, when I say story….

Sun Causes Outrage By Talking Shite.

To be fair, that happens so often it wouldn’t be a story either.

Still, it’s a good job they haven’t looked at the official site this morning…

CELTIC’S Scottish internationalists were left heartbroken last night (Thursday) after their 2-2 draw with Poland at Hampden ended their qualification hopes for next summer’s European Championships.

Gordon Strachan’s men went into last night’s massive match at the National Stadium needing to better the Republic of Ireland’s result in their respective game against World Champions Germany in Dublin to have any chance of qualifying for Euro 2016 but they had a nightmare start when Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring for the Poles inside four minutes.

The collapse came shortly after Celtic tweeted a good luck message to the Ireland squad which caused the Scots defence to fall apart and an Irish forward to score late on, which was exactly what we wanted, you tartan tossers. Up The Ra

Alright, I added the last paragraph.

Which will no doubt have caused a massive deflation in a particular part of collins’s lower anatomy as he got to the end of reading that.

The Scotsman are on the ball.

They’ve spotted the story about Leke James catching the eye of Celtic.

Just days after everyone else.

Leke James, left, in action for Aalesunds against APOEL. Picture: Getty

Hmmm.

Orange and blue….

New Balance better not have seen that. not while they are still thinking up new shirt designs…

AALESUNDS boss Trond Fredriksen has suggested that Celtic signing star striker Leke James could be good for all parties.

The 22-year-old Nigerian ace has claimed Celtic are keeping tabs on him ahead of the January transfer window, as Ronny Deila seeks to bolster his attacking options.

But Fredriksen said that, although he was keen to hang on to James, a big money move could benefit Aalesunds as well as the Hoops.

James has netted 29 goals in 78 games for Aalesund. (Various)

He won’t fit in at Celtic. He scores far too often for a forward.

Speaking of forwards…

Now we’re all used to the media blaming any Celtic players who play for Scotlnad for their poor results, but for a Celtic asupporter to do it? When the side included Hutton, Whittaker and Hanley? Seen it all now.

generally tend not to comment on villa and norwich players(and whoevever hanley plays for)but i happen to subsidise a small(very small)ammount of S B”s wages.if you’re genuinely content with his weekly offerings then we,as a club, will never progress.

I love it when the press come out with this shite. If there were ever any fuckwits in our support who have doubts that we are hated in this country, that should silence them.

They will do anything to paint us in a bad light. Fuck them.

A joke organisation that receivesthe minimum of criticism from, the media. The way they treat fans, as shown in your article is disgraceful. The whole campaign has Been mince, last nights game was poor, the Poles deserved to win.
The good thing is that our players will have a break before the Champions League.
Strachan should stay, Regan and the clowns at the SFA should resign today.
They should have gone after the Georgia game and their cheapskate way of travelling, keeping the best rows and seats with leg room for the Blazers.
God we would be a great team with Lewandoski, now onto more important things.
Stokes you might make the Republics team if he can get a game.

I listened to the fone in on shortbried efter the game and not once were the high heid yins cryed intae question. 20 years of not qualifying for a major tournament and nobody is held tae account, go figure. Last night was a Magyar moment. Is recovery possible?

Monti

I thought the ‘ treatment ‘ handed to Robert Lewandowski by that thug Alan Hutton was disgraceful last night, to see the ‘ Tartan Army ‘ scream with delight as Hutton went in on Rl from behind was as sad as it was predictable.
Nothing wrong with hard tackling and 100% commitment but thuggery is something else.

Scott Brown wasn’t innocent either with an elbow into Rl ribs.

Win at all costs eh?
Doh a dear….indeed!

He was a hell of player for us before he got injured. Won’t ever forget the four goal outburst. Still looks in fighting trim. Maybe he fancies a match?

Currently in Marseille on holidsy. Didnt get thr Scotland result until after the game. I feel the way I used to feel following a Celtic defeat to the scum. Cant believe Scottish Celtic fans are celebrating. My grandparents came over from Donegal and Dublin but Im Scottish and will always support my country.

The old joke: the difference between a bucket of shite and The Sun? The bucket…

Although I would like Griffiths to score a hat trick against Gibraltar I also hope he might not play.

Back to domestic football. Who will be fit?

@ Motherwell

Gordon
Lustig/Boyata/Simunovic/Izzy
Brown/Bitton
Forrest/Rogic/Armstrong
Griffiths

Bring subs on earlier:
Bailly/Ambrose/Tierney
Ciftci/Mackay-Steven/Commons/Johansen

I would like to see a fit Allan getting some time on the pitch. If we are playing flat out then maybe the team tires sooner rather than later. Subs should come on about 70 minutes or so to make an impact. We need to get a back four sorted and Boyata/Simunovic promises the most.

Devoy,
Gordon, Janko, Lustig, Simunovic, Tierney
Commons, Armstrong, Brown, Bitton
Griffiths, Ciftci.

Armstrong wide right
Commons wide left

Mackay Steven could come on either flank
Forrest the same.

Boyata for Janko and Lustig right back

Devoy45

Interesting Monti, and I could live with it. Do I remember Lustig putting a few good shifts at centre back in the past? I also like your idea (and have pitched it myself in the past) that Ciftci and Griffiths should go together up front at some stage. (Plan B?) I think they would play off each other really well. Little and Large. In a 4-2-3-1 we could also have Griffiths wide on the left and Ciftci up front playing by (with?) himself. Now, Monti, just use your influence on Ronny to make it so! By the way, do you or any others think Monti or the players might just read our forum from time to time? Why not, we’re intelligent and reasonable people on here—mostly.
But God help the Norwegian ‘whalers’!

Devoy45

Monti, I can live with that. Nae bad. If not Griffiths and Ciftci up front together, then Griffiths wide left and Ciftci up front, playing with/by himself.

Was really quite happy to see Griffiths pulling out of the meaningless game. Why risk it? Besides he has been snubbed so many starts. Well done son.

Allardtce to sign Celtic target Cole? Another money chasing mercenary ? Yes it is a short career but Celtic don’t need them. Why do we entertain over paid mercenaries..
Go and buy Finbogasson Sociedad don’t want him and have loaned him out . If ever there was a case for rejuvenation for Ronnie to get his teeth into it is him . Just do it Celtic . I have pushed this guys case ever since day one and believe Celtic could turn him into another Henrik. Somebody go and sell the club to him .

BUY HIM NOW ?.?

2 injuries on arrival and a change of Manager have not helped him settle in Spain.

He’s none of the above.

We were considering paying Herenveen £4m for him 2 years agon but he was trying to get a prem team . He might not be so difficult to deal with now. However if you would rather have Carlton Cole ,have a look at what the Sunderland fans are saying today.

Charlie Saiz

Reply to  Dan the man

Herenveen wanted £6m at the time they were in financial difficulty but when big Pete heard the price he bolted.
Finnbogason was on 12.6k a week at Herenveen we could have negotiated with Heerenveen them I think but as per usual we went down the cheepo route with Pukki and Boerigter.
Look how that panned out?
We probably blew as much signing those 2 fuds.

Finbogasson is at Olyimpiacos on loan ,he has played 4 games and scored two goals one being the winner against Arsenal in the CL he is also a lot younger than Cole.. He is not a dud ,have a look at his record in Holland and for Iceland. We should be battering his door down before he signs for Olympiacos.
You heard it here first.

Reports that Arsenal are stalking Biton. Enough is enough we have disrupted our team enough for one season with the departure of VVD . One sale per season is all that should be authorised by the board. Biton is now an integral part of this team so the board need to come out quickly and douse this one to back their own fans . Tell boring Arsenal to look elsewhere and send a message to the rest of the Sky/BT English Premier League to sod off. Give Biton a new contract and let’s try to win every competition we are still in particularly the Eufa Cup which has automatic entry to the Champions league which is worth the sale of two possibly three of our best players.

Monti

The board will sell him for £10m, then phone Man Utd for a loan deal for one of their youth players.
