Well, according to what we heard. At least it’s on Etims, so it must be bollocks.
John Kennedy, himself once a great prospect at centre half, spoke enthusiastically about new signing Deydrick Boyata and told us what we could expect from the latest Belgian defender to join up at Celtic Park. He compared him to Jason Denaayer, who jumped from Manchester City reserves to the Belgian national team in just one season of tutelage from the Celtic coaches;
“There are similarities because Dedryck is aggressive, quick, strong and he’s good on the ball.
“It’s everything we wanted in a centre-back. He ticked most of the boxes. We found out he was available and so the manager did a bit of work speaking to City and the player.
“He’s ambitious as well, he knows he need to get playing football and he realises that. He’s spent a bit of time watching football instead of playing and I think that’s the reason he’s come here because he knows it gives him a very good opportunity to play at a very good level.
“He’s probably not played as many games in the last couple of years as you would expect from someone of his age and ability. However, he was a top young player at Manchester City.
“He had a big name when he went in there and probably just struggled to become a regular. With the standard of player they have, it’s very difficult to break into that side.
“I think we are getting a top player at a very good price. Hopefully, coming here and playing every week in our stadium in front of our fans, with maybe Champions League football, can develop him. We saw it with Jason, who came in and did so well at 19 years of age. We had to replace that and I think we have.”
It’s also important thathe blends in with the rest of the squad, as the team spirit at the club could prove to be important in Europe, when they have to go that extra mile for each other.
“I think he’s confident which is good, we want players with a bit of character, a bit of personality, but he’s a very good professional.
“From what I’ve seen, and in the short time I’ve spoken to him, he’s the type of character we want at the club and he’ll hopefully be a good bit of business.”
This was a deal you could se coming as long ago as April. Boyata saw Denaayer get game time and international recognition, which would not have happened had he stayed at City, or arguably gone to a mid table English club. The speed with which the deal was done indicates a hunger within the player that says more than anything about his talent.
He could have waited to see what other offers came in, he was out of contract, but he had made his mind up long ago, it appears, and when the chance to sign came , he took it without hesitation.
Rumours abound that Saidy Janko , the right back from Manchester United reserves should sign next week, and that has to mean that one of our right backs will be leaving. Janko would have been promised a crack at the first team, which is why he’s leaving Manchester. So, who makes way ?
Ambrose, Lustig, Matthews and Fisher are all capable of doing a job on the right, three of them are internationals, but oddly enough, they all have their flaws. Ambrose can be prone to moments of, er, indecision, Lustig is injury prone, Fisher inexperienced to an extent, and Matthews is Welsh, so in fact it could be any of them.
As ever, we will have to trust Ronny and his scouts, and since January it’s fair to say he’s not let us down.
Wouldn’t fancy the job of Celtic scout , though. you’d think it would be all glamour and worldwide travel, yet it seems there’s two train tickets for Manchester in an envelope for you every Monday morning.
Being left out of the team can sometimes dishearten a player, especially if he has made an impression to begin with. Calum MacGregor, who burst onto the scene this time last year after a successful loan spell in England, gradually faded from view as his style was nullified by more experienced defenders.
Then he broke his ankle in April, in a training ground accident, so he won’t be back for a few weeks yet, however, he’s not let it get him down.
to pass the time while he recovers, he’s been selling lucky white heather outside supermarkets, but Celtic tv caught up with him, and he spoke of his determination to get back to where he was.
“I’ve been doing a bit in the gym and hopefully I should be out running next week. It’s coming along well and hopefully I’ll be back soon.
“It’s disappointing but it happened at a good time because I should be back in three or four weeks.
“I’ve been injured before and it gives you time to think about other things and once you get back then you’re bang at it and ready to go.
“Obviously it’s disappointing at the time but it gives you more focus when you get back to try that wee bit extra and run that wee bit harder.”
“I had a great start and hopefully I can get myself as fit as I can as quickly as possible and get myself back involved.
“Last year I was involved in the qualifiers and it was a great experience. I will miss the first two but hopefully I can get back involved after that.”
Having a break from the first team, and his sudden rise to prominence may well help the player in the long run.
Another who is injured is Liam Henderson, who returned from Norway on crutches after he hurt himself in a cup game. The extent of the damage is not known yet, but at least he won’t be rushed back and incur further problems, a policy which is working at Celtic these days, if you don’t count Mikael Lustig.
Speaking of Celtic TV, they’ll have all the pre season games on live, which should tempt a few of us to join up. Especially me, with Sky about to go off now that my notice period is up. The Sports went weeks ago, now the rest of the package is going, after i realised I only watch Modern Family, and because they show them at all times, I’ll wait for the box set on catch up telly.
The official website tells us what you get for your money with the channel;
The Celtic TV crew have re-located to Lennoxtown and over the coming weeks will bring subscribers all the latest team news, with exclusive behind-the-scenes access and updates from the training ground as the Bhoys prepare for a busy month ahead.

If I told them I lived overseas do you think I’d get away with it ?
By the way, we, the Lennon CSC, are thinking about hiring a box for the Inverness game. John Paul Taylor is on holiday, so does anyone out there with experience of this have any knowledge of how this works ?
Thats a box that you sit in , by the way. not that you stand on.
Though if it’s too expensive to hire a box, I suppose it’s an option.
With the revelation from blogger John James on Rangerssupportersloyal that Dave kings Second Rangers have sold just 12,000 season books thus far, a drop of around 5000 on this time last year, they have called in the cavalry.
Well, you and i know them as the MSM, but you know what i mean.
The Evening Times’s own sword of justice and shield of truth Matthew Lindsay led the way, by crayoning an article which suggests that all Scottish clubs need to
bring in spending controls – and stop more clubs suffering
financial meltdown.
Er, I think most of them already did that. There’s only one i can think of who haven’t, to be honest.
SCOTTISH football can avoid major clubs like Hearts and Rangers ever dropping out of the Premiership again in the future – by introducing a revolutionary new salary cap.
Rangers didn’t “drop out of the Premiership ” . They went out of business.
That was the message from former Gers captain Craig Moore this week as he lamented the damaging loss of the Ibrox club from the top flight.
Surely “former Gers former captain ? In the interest of accuracy ? Must be a typo.
Our entire national game has suffered badly as a direct result of the Ibrox club’s well-documented financial meltdown three years ago.
Again, in the interests of accuracy, no it hasn’t. Another typo ?
Hearts being relegated to the Championship last year after being put into administration exacerbated what was an already difficult situation.
But they dealt with it, cut their cloth accordingly and roared back by winning europes most competitive league-copyright MSM-at a canter. So they probably know what they’re doing.
Average attendances in the Premiership have fallen dramatically from 13,861 during the 2011/12 campaign to just 8,865 last season.
Because one of the better supported sides went out of business ? Worth a mention , Matt ? another typo ?
Money banked from advertising, broadcasting and sponsorship has also diminished as a result of Hearts, Hibs and Rangers playing in the second tier.
But mostly as a result of having Neil Doncaster do the negotiating.
anyway, here’s the spin. note the difference in how the financial problems at Hearts are described, and compare how those of now defunct Rangers are.
The circumstances which led to Rangers playing in the bottom division against part-time opponents comprised of plumbers, joiners and postmen three years ago were unprecedented and are unlikely to ever be repeated.
The Glasgow giants had a multi-million pound tax bill from HMRC hanging over them for their use of EBTs to pay their players and senior members of staff.
Craig Whyte bought the 140-year-old institution from Sir David Murray for £1 in 2011 and within a year the parent company had been put into administration and then liquidated due to non-payment of NIC, PAYE and VAT.
Hearts, meanwhile, narrowly avoided going bust after being placed into administration with debts of £25million due to the chaotic stewardship of their eccentric Lithuanian owner Vladimir Romanov.
Wow, if only Hearts had a parent company…..
Lindsay is a piss poor journalist at best, but this is just unacceptable.
Everyone knows what happened. What is the point in prolonging the myth ?
Or is it just another typo ?
He then calls on Craig Moore to elaborate on why a wages cap-presumably with an EBT for certain “stars ” is the way forward…
“There is $2.5million a season salary cap for 23 players in the league here. You can have an Australian marquee player and a foreign marquee player who fall outside of that.
“It makes for a more level playing field. Some Australian clubs have done consistently well. But nobody has enjoyed total dominance.
“You have to work within the restrictions of the salary cap. It means you have to get your recruitment absolutely right and don’t spend money needlessly or too extravagantly on players.
“You are allowed five foreign players in your quotas and they are normally the better paid members of a squad. The salary cap means you can’t afford to get any of them wrong.”
Craig Moore on salary caps ? Here’s an extract from a list which detailed those at ibrox who were paid by loans in the days before they crashed…
Carlos Cuellar £448,255
Chris Burke £55,000
Christian Nerlinger £1.8million
Claudio Caniggia £1million
Craig Moore £1.1million
All tax free.
The “battle ” between Dave King and Mike Ashley for the hearts and minds of the masses continues, with the news that any boycott of ibrox merchandise, such as shirts, etc, would actually hurt the club more than it does Ashley.
If Ashley has one hundred unsold shirts, the onerous contracts mean that the club will have to buy them from him at full retail value. Then, having no means to sell them themselves, they would then give them to Ashley to sell at a discounted rate, and pay him commission to do so.
Ashley, of course, remains magnanimous in victory, and isn’t going to mock them in any way whatsoever.
Except at his Argyle Street shop….
John Eustace, the man who would be captain has gone into hiding somewhere in the midlans and for some reason doesn’t seem to be answering his phone.
Marky Mark Warby Warburton is still confident of getting his man, but he would rather no-one kept talking about it.
We Celtic fans know what it’s like when the press ignore something and you end up with a dud. Remember Henri Camara, the first sign that Martin O’Neill was starting to lose it ?
Well, wolves fans had a song for him….
We should have listened to them.
Meanwhile, we hear that the Scottish Sports Writers Award will have a new trophy from next season…
What’s happening here ? And how do you remember it ?
Great stuff again Ralph.
Interesting to note when they do these Average Gate Comparisons over the period stated they fail to take into Account the los of Both Hearts and Hibs from the top flight last Season.
2 well Supported Clubs in Scotland.
Just saying.. 😉
Well written piece…as usual.
Highlighting the Hun’s press lackies re-writing history, is always good for a laugh.
Canny wait for the outcome of HMRC’s appeal re. EBT’s…
Come on ye Tax man.
HH
Meant to say…
Is the Sport’s Direct photo genuine…?
I’m easily fooled…
PS: Even if it’s no…it’s a belter.
Btw Jelavic is exactly the type we need for Europe.
I would be happy enough to see him at Celtic if it transpired.
Canny disagree Charlie..
Although he seems to have “shaded off” recently..?
I thought, when he left Sevco, he was a good ‘un.
I always thought we should bought him when they did.
The price was not that high at the time and he ended up being a very good signing for them.
He can lead the line, boss defenders and is very good in the air.
His form has been up and down but I think he’s a confidence player and at a Club like ours where you get on average 5 good chances a game he would soon be finding the net in no time.
Pound to a penny (ahem) Jellyvich’s transfer fee was a similar case to Arveladze.
I think he’d be an excellent player for us (if he can recapture his previous form and not just for the get it up the Zombiehuns factor.
Must be Naka’s splendid match-winning free kick of Nov.2006 against Manchester United, just when we needed it most!
With less than 15 mins remaining I had been getting worried that we weren’t going to hold out and my wife said “hey this might be a chance-you’ve got a free kick”, a special highlight indeed
Very similar to my own memory.
Wife said “this could be it” to which I replied,
“Don’t be daft, he did the same thing down there, their keeper is 6’6” with over a 100 caps for Holland, he’s not going to fall for…WHAT A F*****N GOOAAALLL!!!
I always picture Naka saying “Now Edwin watch closely..i wont show you again!”
When the free kick was awarded I turned to my mate in the stand and said it was going into the corner, which was the only bit of the net we could see from restricted view in 411. We took thise seasts so we could get a dozen or so books together. The noise was astonishing, and i didn’t stop shaking until i got back to the bus. incredible night. No wonder Sahas arse went at the penalty.
Wifey and I were watching that game in a bar in Las Americas, Tenerife and were sitting behind a really big assed, I mean mouthed, scousers who were giving it big lick all through the game about how bad we were and how they should be wiping the floor with us coming from a sub standard league and how pish were a sweaty jock team who shouldn’t be in the champions league blah, blah, blah.
Then Naka scored and the silence was deafening, well from them! Even Wifey who is usually quiet as a mouse was letting rip! What a fabulous night to be a Tenerife Tim! Never, ever will either of us forget that night. What a shag we had when we got back to the apartment! Brilliant night all round.
As wee Gordon said “Its the GREAT players that can really produce something when it matters near the end of a game”
That ” Parent company”. What was it the parent of?
And how can an incorporated body have a parent?
Incorporation = a SINGLE entity.
How do these peepo get away with it?
TonyB
It’s called SMSM – shake on it.
H H
It is about 4k for 8 people in a box. Various packages are available for the restaurants from about £125 to £200 each. The info is on the drop down menu, top left on the site. Look for hospitality.
Nakas magical free kick against united in the cl, what a player he was.
if we get the boy from United can see that being Matthews off, lustig is to good to get rid of (if fit) and think there’s still more to come from
Fisher.
Hh
Just a quick stat to back up Camara who I feel was given a hard time by some supporters. Camara played 12 league games and scored 8 times, when Bellamy came in he also played 12 league games and scored 7 goals. Unfortunately Camara was never one to kiss the badge.
I always thought Fortune was the bigger riddy personally what a waste of money that useless cnut was.
Naka’s free kick against Man Utd – I’ve never heard noise from a crowd like I experienced for the 10 minutes afterwards. I think only the pre-match noise against Barca comes close to it.
My heart was beating so hard I’m sure it was going to burst through my shirt.
And then the penalty and then the noise that greeted Boruc’s save – great memories.
Re Jelavic – Celtic were interested in signing him before he signed for rangers. We had made enquiries and decided we couldn’t afford him. Lo and behold, a team with no money and spiralling debts suddenly find they can afford him – one of the reasons they died.
Re Mike Ashley’s contracts – I heard about the retail deal a long time ago. When King appeared and claimed that MASH were not even 1% of an annoyance, I assumed the rumours I’d heard were untrue. Since his statement / EGM, King has went into hiding and MA has just went about his business normally. Now it seems MA really does have them by the short and curlies and King has now realised this.
I’d predict more ice cream and jelly, however, I can’t see MA allowing them to be liquidated as I reckon he’ll just keep giving them loans to keep going, meanwhile getting security to every piece of the business.
Luxury player my arse…

Naka’s winning goal against Man Utd,my old seat was high up in the north stand ,I remember running down the steps all the way to exit when we scored, also won me a lot of money off all my Man Utd pals in work,ye’re not good enough to beat us,giruy.
Naka scoring v Manure. Almost deafened by the noise afterwards and just about frightened my young lad to death, but brilliant and relived many times since.
Heard a good story about the aftermath in their dressing room when Fergie went through them all and gave them his infamous hair dryer as their last 16 chances hung in the balance. Saha got it bad for missing their pen but he saved the best/worst for last, for Edwin van der Saar. “As for you, ya big Dutch pwick, lettin in a shot fae the hauf way line! You better buy thon Japanesey’s Xmas DVD, coz you’re the f****ng star in it. Twice!!!!!”
Naka’s free kick Man U . Got home from the game to be told “You were on the Telly” just before the free kick the TV cameras picked me and son out in the Jock Stein, my son u was pictured with his hands in a praying position .As it turned out his prayers were answered . Brilliant ®
Ralph
No news is no news so I guess it is legitimate to challenge those who make up news to make it news. Therefore, you get my full backing for focusing on the “misspeaks” of the SMSM. Even if that were not the case, it really is time this whole destructive saga was wiped from the face of Scottish football so that the rest of us can get on with “the game”. If there is one thing I would like clarified prior to their passing – or maybe, given their propensity for largess, be pissing away – it would be how in the name of all that is holy they can continue at all given the seemingly non existence of money. Greece is being pilloried in Europe for living beyond its means. Yet, the Ibrox over-spenders are approved or even praised for not having the means to even live. If anyone questions the existence of mysteries, then the Sevco saga should allay any doubts.
Naka’s free kick: I am not certain what I was doing but when I showed the clip to my dear wife she said something along the lines of her backside being still sore. I know I have trouble with my big toe since May 2008 – and my throat has not been quite the same too. Come to think of it, we haven’t had a roof since then either and the neighbours asked that we sound proof the house.

This is a headline on BBC Sports Scotland’s web site…written by Jim Spence….
Kilmarnock chase Kris Boyd and Lee McCulloch.
It got me thinkin’….
Kilmarnock’s PA phones Chairman:
“Excuse me sir..but there are two guys in reception claiming to be Boyd and McCulloch from Sevco…and they’re wondering if you’re looking for any players.”
Chairman: “Tell them I am…and if they know any players..tell them to send them down..As for that two…Tell them tae Feck Off.”
Wee Spency changed it slightly.

Can you tell me what you got…please.?

Mike. Its an MX8 box with a free mini key board. Picks up the skysports and btsports channels as well as US sports (I think a lot of Celtic games are shown on Foxsports). £49 from amazon (I wouldnt normally buy from those shysters)
Bravo Anton.
A decision so good it had to be said twice 😉
Whoops!!
Obviously I meant to say ‘new’.
I am unaware of any Jewish people having android tv boxes.
Excellent as usual Ralph. The SMSM have fallen so low it’s become a complete joke. – Not 1 single invstigative journalist has the cojones to tackle The lies from the Tribute Act, leaving it to the likes of Phil & The Clumpany to do all the hard work for them, before they finally are forced into printing a version of the truth fed to them by the dark side. It’s beomce some bad even the lkes of John James & Ninjaman oof the Rangers Supporters Loyal blog have actually admitted to being embrassed about how pathetic the Scottish media are tackling the obvious issues or asking the obvious questions.
(sorry, tiny font + dyslexia = more errors than a Sevco retail deal)
Watched the game at the Vancouver Shamrock CSC – said to the guy beside me as soon as the free kick was awarded that Naka would score. Let’s face it – has there ever been a better exponent of the dead ball at CP than Naka?
The place went mental when it went in (well our little section of the pub did).
Brilliant lunchtime, then back to work afterwards.
I watched the league win against Dundee Utd when big Jan scored courtesy of Vancouver Shamrock – what a morning that was!!!!
Really worth watching Naka’s 2 man u free kicks back to back to remind yourself just how good they were … and how much better the second was. For the first, they didn’t seem to realise who they were up against – they lined up their wall but didn’t jump and the goalie just watched the ball fly in the corner. You can imagine how pleased Fergie would have been. The second was further out … and the wall jumped … and the goalie launched himself at the ball … and none of it made the slightest difference … Naka still did the impossible … the most perfect postage stamp corner free kick you could imagine. The best I’ve ever seen.
I was in Melbourne at the time for nakamuras 2 free kicks (1st one spoiled by that diving, sister in law shagging, hairy Welsh bastard giggs) got up before 4am to watch both games. 2nd game had a few beers. Woke up a few neighbours at nakas goal then woke up the full street at boruc penalty save. Went to work a very happy and half cut Tim with my Celtic top on. The Aussie TV usually cut off straight after the game but they stayed with the Celtic fans belting out you’ll never walk alone. Magic
Dont remember calls for wage caps as Rangers (1872-2012) raced to a celtic fc equaling nine in a row.
Naw but I remember Celtic men struggling for Scotland Caps when they dominated Europes best and sauntered through 9 Legal Leagues in a row 😉
Aye, but please don’t mention their tainted titles; shafting the rest of us of silverware and European money.
Jelavic – maybe he can be redeemed from the darkness. I wish we had signed him years ago.
Naka goal – a piece of magic that will live long with all of us. Wish I could find Lubo’s against Man U in a friendly – brilliant also.
In regards, MASH and the glib and shameless liar. I think the conversation went like this:
GASL: “Please let us die!!”
MASH: “I should Coco!! You are Undead, and Undead you will remain.”
GASL: “We will never get back to the good old days, like this.”
MASH: “Good? You were never good! Now I can drink your blood forever! Nah, hah, hah, hah.”
GLIB: “Help me Level 5!!….”
MASH: “This year I will send you a million tops you cannot sell, next year two million!. How does it feel “Chairman” ?”
Nakamura’s goal v Man U C/L 2006 I was at work and watched that fly in thru the gaps in my fingers, fuck me what a moment that was.

They should have no problem catching them!
