Celtic Diary Friday April 17: For The Thinking Man…

Actually , there’s quite a lot to think about.

For instance, what would these two have talked about, when they met at the Premier cup game in Manchester last night, where the young Celts lost on penalties in the quarter final to Manchester City-which was bad luck-after a hard earned 0-0 draw ?

Anthony Stokes ? Matt Mills ? Even James Forrest ?

Or were they simply looking for somewhere to hang up their jackets, bearing in mind this was Manchester, and someone would probably nick it.

Maybe theres a friendly on the cards in the summer ? Deila doesn’t want to go around the world in the pre season, and Bolton are skint, but you can get a discount on the trains if you book online.

Lennon looks relaxed, which I guess comes with the new lifestyle he has, not having to put a mirror on a stick underneath his car every morning, or collecting the mail in a special outfit.

I’m happy for him. I think we all are.

Another possible summer signing target was taken off the list last night when it was revealed to be a Daily Express scoop.

EXCLUSIVE: Celtic keen on Argentinian hitman Sergio Araujo

CELTIC boss Ronny Deila is considering a summer move for Argentinian striker Sergio Araujo.

Sergio Araujo

Or, at least we will be when he gets his dislocated jaw fixed.

That must be why his loan spell at Barcelona didn’t work out.

And his ears aren’t up to much either.

aruajo

I suppose it’ll be company for Derk Boerrigter.

Araujo has scored thirteen goals for Las Palmas in Spains division Two, and may form a lethal partnership next season with Stefan Scepovic. If we move to spains Division Two, that is.

Celtic could be set for a straight swap with Manchester City if Jason Denaayer decides he wants to spend a year sitting on his arse at the Etihad. Dedryck Boyata, another Belgian defender at City has told the club he wants out;

“I am playing in a big team, but for myself itโ€™s not good enough,” said Boyata. “I am 24 now, and not the same player I was before. I think I have more maturity and feel like I have stepped up.”

“People here have seen what I can do, but I am not getting the chance every weekend, so I see myself going somewhere that I can play,” he added.

I wonder if Denaayer heard him say that….

And I wonder, if van Dijk leaves, is an all Belgian central defence a possibility…?

If one tells the other how bad it is at City when you are a squad player, and the other tells him that he’s broken into the international squad.

Boyata has one year left on his contract. The sort of player we can think about. Is he any good ?

Well, he can certainly put himself about. He got a red card for this one;

The reason ?

It was while the ball was out for a throw in.

Anyway, just a thought, and todays diary is all about thinking.

Another on the list is Jonathan Mensah, the Ghanaian.

Maybe we are looking to toughen up a bit.

Remember Martin o’ Neills team ? Never got bullied, and could play a bit .

It takes more than just passing a ball and scoring goals to win a game sometimes.

After the outcry surrounding the staggered ending to the football season, the beaks have backtracked.

Our exclusive picture shows the moment Stewart Regan found out what Neil doncaster had done;

Which, incidentally doubles as todays caption competition…you’ll see why it’s not at the bottom of the page when you get there. I’m not putting these two anywhere near the main man himself.

What Doncaster has actually done, although he might not realise it yet, is hand the balance of power in the game back to the SFA just when it appeared the League were beginning to chip away at their dominance.

Although the SFA weren’t involved, it means that they can remind doncaster of this incident every time the SPFL try to flex their muscle.

He really has to go.

The Hearts -Second Rangers game has been moved back to the Saturday, and Sky are happy enough to still show it.

Well, thats a relief.

What if they had said no ?

I wonder, just as the SPFL did earlier in the season, will they be paying a broadcaster to show a Second Rangers game ?

With Doncaster under so much pressure to pack his bags and find gainful employment elsewhere, could Regan see this as a chance to become Mr. Scottish football ?

To do so, he must reject Dave King as a fit and proper person , which to be fair, is true. King is a convicted tax fraudster. Will he have the balls to do it, though ?

And could he be the man to start cleaning out the SFA , and make it fit and proper ?

Todays diary is about thinking… not neccessarily intelligent thinking, I suppose.

Yesterday we showed a picture of Kenny Dalglish and Paul Lambert holding a press conference in a pub. It doesn’t look like Bairds, but could have been the London road club.

These days we have moved on.

Maybe we shouldn’t move too far on…

On April 17, 1915 Brother Walfrid passed away.

On April 17, 2015, take a wee moment, by yourself ,to remember him.

The club he founded are going from strength to strength, and the foodbank collection this week, detailed in another article on the site, showed that we haven’t entirely forgotten where we came from.

Lets take the next one hundred, and remind the rest of the world that in these days of corporate sponsors, television deals and millionaire owners that there is one club that stayed true to its original purpose.

And one club that will never forget why it is here.

Lovely picture by the famous French Sculptor Auguste Rodin.
His biography is well worth a read.
I’ll read your bit now!

Regan is distraught at finding out how low he must sink to rate a Sevco scarf like Doncaster …

I think the shadow of Bro. Walfrid is quietly caressing all of us today. There is a gentle restraint about the Diary and the comments. But then, many of our regular antagonists have not been on yet :).

I missed Hector’s moving piece last evening and though I commented today, I would still like to say well done and thank you to every Celtic fan whether they contributed at Parkhead or at their local foodbank. Reading other people’s comments reaffirms we are all of one mind, heart and soul cemented by the ideals of our founding father Bro. Walfrid. To be honest, at the moment I am not sure I want to talk about anything else, especially anything relating to anyone or anything at Hampden. If ever two poles were apart….

As ever, well said Pensionerbhoy. Another great effort by the fans but sad its still going on in 2015; the fecking banks should be made to run the foodbanks in every town they have a branch and be made to do it until they are no longer needed, thieving gets.

As much as I love Ronny and I do think his system is perfect for European football, the last 30 minutes against Kilmarnock showed me that in Scotland where we dominate so much, playing with 2 up front is a must. Lets hope we can see more games with 2 strikers playing from now on…….if we do I think we will really start destroying teams.

It’s not as simplistic as that though we played 2 up all last season and still managed to lose games that mattered.
4-2-3-1 Has served us well all Season the fact we are still in with a serious shout of a treble should tell you that.
We don’t actually play with 1 loan Striker we play with 4 Attackers who can all score hence the goals being spread out through them all this season.
The reason Ronny felt comfortable deploying 2 strikers was Killie were not interested in scoring more after they went up.
We were actually playing with 2 at the back for most of the game anyway.
The reason for that is we dominated the midfield area.
Put 4 in the middle and you run the risk of being overrun in ther by teams playin 5 in the middle.
I have long felt if we could find a system that’s effective at home and abroad we should perfect it and stick with it.
This is what is happening.
The more we play this System he more it becomes second nature and the players can concentrate on their own performance.

Maybe Doncaster will make it compulsory to add on 10 extra minutes to every sevco games until the end of the season
Unless they are winning
