Celtic Diary Friday November 22: Bad News Expected at AGM.

And I will continue to use that picture every year, or at least until Dermot shows up for one. Which, of course will make all the difference.

Scott Brown signed a new four year deal yesterday, prompting immediate speculation that the AGM today wasn’t going to go the way supporters want it to. Maybe its just me, but I’ve a feeling we are all going to be a little disconsolate come the morn…

But lets do the good news first;

We’re off to the Celtic Winter Wonderland, and its time for the

Gift of the Week, which this week is the ever popular Celtic Onesie – a stylish Hooped all-in-one which has gone down a storm with our supporters since being launched last year.

If that girl announced she had Ebola the crowd wouldn’t move any further away from her.

Hopefully, whoever came up with that one isn’t allowed anywhere near the ideas room next time round.  If you buy one this weekend, theres a chance of winning a signed shirt, and a trip to see Santa, where kids can tell him to stick his bloody onesies up his arse. Which, if you’ve ever worn one, you’ll know thats where they end up anyway.

Hard to top that news, but Scott Brown putting his faith in the Deila revolution and the club is a massive boost for all of us. The rule of thumb with any player is simple.

Are we better off with him, or without him in the team ?

With Brown, the answer is obvious, and well done to everyone who secured the deal.

Brown himself said;

“It’s an absolute privilege to extend my contract with Celtic, a brilliant football club and with such incredible supporters.

“This is a place that I call home. Being Celtic captain is a tremendous honour and it is a role which I cherish dearly. The team is in a great place just now and we’re all right behind the manager and the backroom team as they build for the future.

“I will do all I can with the manager and all the players at the club to deliver the success which our supporters deserve.”

Over the years, he’s grown from being a bit of a risk on the park, to a mature and responsible leader, with only occasional flashes of the old Brown.

Continuity at a club is essential, and now that Deila has settled in a bit, this may be the start of him securing the spine of a team that he can work with for a few years.

Not that the press would have you even consider that. Apparently,  several leading English Premier League clubs (were ) said to be weighing up a multi-million pound raid for the Celtic skipper. ( Evening Times )

The hacks will continue their quest to empty Celtic Park, seeing as how it appears one of the other Glasgow clubs has been told to empty Ibrox-Ally McCoist has been told to lose at least three players this January- and the MSM will  be hanging on for some doomsday scenario from the AGM.

The Celtic Trust have petitioned for the Living Wage for all employees, theres talk of asking the board to do something about the issue of non payment of taxes by the now defunct Rangers, which should have excluded them from European competition, but actually gave them a lifeline.

One that Craig Whyte failed to grasp by allowing Ally Mccoist to remain in charge.

Speaking of Whyte, the High Court in London have issued a warrrant for his arrest, allowing the MSM in Scotland to adhere to the old adage of a stopped clock being right twice a day.

Only the BBC are clinging to the story about a warrant being issued in Scotland. Everyone else has forgotten that they mentioned it.

The BBC.

This is what happens when you go for style over substance. Getting rid of the licence fee will mean that the BBC won’t be under the government thumb. After all, its Westminster who sets the licence fee.

Now, if everyone had voted yes, we could have our own television service, presented by the lovely Lorraine Kelly, and with sports covered by Tam Cowan and Stuart St. Johnstone Fan. For comedy theres Alistair MacGowan and that bloke who does impressions of footballers-well, ex footballers-at New Year.

Alright. Now I know why some of you voted no. But there was no need to add the words “fucking chance ” just because you’d heard about the tv channel.

Celtic host Dundee tomorrow, and at the time of writing the fixture will go ahead at the planned time. Though I’d check again before you set off. And again at half time. It won’t be long before the second half is played on a different day, so that everyone can get home earlier.

The game against St. Johnstone in January  has been postponed. Meaning that every month the season ticket becomes less and less value for money for those of us who live outwith the G postcode area. And theres a few of us.

Celtic quoted a recent fans forum, where those present agreed that plenty of notice to fixture changes would suffice.

Oddly enough, those fans ( alright, fucking one )  who couldn’t attend the evening weekday fans  meeting due to work commitments are exactly the same ones who will struggle to get to re arranged games as well.

Look, Celtic have a huge first team squad, from which we could easily field two separate teams, with quite a few internationals in them.

Just as Deila rotates the players on a week to week basis, why not stagger a weeks break for each player over a period of a month or so immediately after the holiday season ?

Or is that too simple ?

Almost forgot, Celtic will not be using the recently introduced BioBus, the one that runs on human waste. Apparently , the first one has already been in an accident, and investigators are not happy with the size of the skid mark.

Here all week, try the veal etc.

And you can add you’re own joke about where they keep the shite on the Ibrox team bus.

 Neil Lennon , speaking to the Bolton News, went some way to explaining his transfer policy when he was at Celtic;

I came close signing  Eagles at Celtic

But presumably he just stuck to Donkeys instead.

Ha ! Revisionism. Lenny = Bad, Ronny = Good.

As long as we sign Guidetti, that is. Make no mistake, Brown commiting himself for what will probably be the rest of his career to the club will have a marked effect on how  everyone else views the club. Guidetti will have noticed that a Brown is happy, and being looked after.

And that is a major factor for footballers when they choose a club.

Especially with Marseille looking to turn the Swedes head. When Guidetti was told of this interest, he was polite, and gave a respectful answer.

“Marseille is a beautiful city with an amazing stadium. I was not aware of this interest, this is the first time I’ve heard of it, but it’s always nice to hear that a big club like this follows you.

“I’m focused on Celtic. I want to continue to play well, I’m very happy. My contract expires in June 2015 so I have to continue to play well like I currently am at Celtic. It’s always nice to hear that clubs monitor you, because it means you’re doing a good job. ”

Fair enough. Not much in that to base a story on, even for the Scottish hacks who are desperate to see the Swede leave.

Something else that slipped in under the radar, ( no, not that one , Keith ) was a wee story about Celtic securing a deal with Unibet, which will make it easier to bet during a game via the Celtic Live App.

Thats because all the bookies are shut by the time Celtic get round to playing some of their league games.

A new partnership between Unibet & top Scottish football team Celtic FC will see live odds on the gambling firm’s website made accessible to the Club’s CelticLIVE wi-fi system.

The CelicLIVE system additionally comprises a dedicated matchday app which was developed by sports media & digital marketing agency Sports Revolution who also brokered the deal.

The app, which has been downloaded more than 50 000 times since its launch in 2013, has played over 79 000 videos while reaching 4.7 million fans using shared content on social media at #celticlive.

Another 155 000 team fans have registered for the Club stadium’s CelticLIVE wi-fi system enhancing their match-day experience with live by-the-minute statistics, photo & video content, man-of-the-match voting & commentary.

Simon Hills , commercial director of Sports Revolution said: EURњStadium Wi-Fi has huge potential for commercial partners to offer services that enhance the matchday experience for fans.

Anyone else a little bit unnerved by this bit…

The app, which has been downloaded more than 50 000 times since its launch in 2013, has played over 79 000 videos while reaching 4.7 million fans using shared content on social media at #celticlive.

Big Brother is not only watching us, he’s keeping an eye on what we’re watching.

Paul McStay, one the the finest players to wear the jersey , took it off and threw it into the cloud. At the time, there was a sense of resignation that he had to do this to further his career, and ease the injury to his back, which had begun when he started carrying the rest of the team on it.

Blackburn and Udinese were the only two clubs with a serious interest in taking him away, he stayed and we don’t even want to think about how bad things would have been without him back then.

One of only a few one club players, even back then, and heres a man  who seemed certain to be another of that select band, until the support mysteriously turned on him , and therefore perhaps wasn’t appreciated as much as what he should have been. Who is he ?

Always thought it strange that Roy never seemed to have much to do with Celtic after he left us given he was with us for about 14 years.

I never understood Roy Aitkens demise. It was like we blamed him solely for everything that was shite about the Club at the time. I regret being one of those who chucked a rake of fux at him in his last two seasons. I’ll never forget the run he went on at Tynecastle in the Centenary year for McGhee’s heeder at the back post. Total Tim.

The guy that still took on the assistant role at Scotland with McLeish despite the shocking treatment that the late Tommy Burns received from the Hun SFA. That’s who he is!
